They say a man can go three days without water to survive.
Clearly they have never met a swimmer.
Albert Einstein was quoted by saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Well I guess you can call us crazy.
Every morning, we get up at 5am to jump in a cold pool and then look at a black line for miles. And with this repetition comes progress.
We push ourselves every day trying to get better.
We reek of chlorine, our hair is fried, and we couldn't be happier about that.
There is no fame in swimming. In the grand scheme of things, your greatest accomplishments in the sport go unnoticed by even your closest friends.
There is no money or professional league in swimming.
Just you and the pool.
That being said, swimmers are not driven by external motivation. In fact, you cannot swim unless you are fueled by the strongest internal motivation. When that alarm goes off in the morning, you pull yourself out of bed because you know that your work today will pay off in the future. You know that all the sweat and tears will be worth it.
They don't make movies about swimming. You don't read about swimming in the newspapers. And, unless its an Olympic year, some don't even consider swimming a sport.
Clearly they have never witnessed it before.
Why do we do this? Why do we put ourselves agonizing practices day in and day out just for one big meet a year? We do this for ourselves. We do this because this is who we are. Swimming is not just a sport for us, it is a way of life. We are the most disciplined, time oriented people you will ever meet in your life. If there is a crossroads, we always take the path with most resistance. We look for hard work, not run away from it.
We are a unique breed of human.
Those who consider swimming an individual sport have never done it before. When you race, you know you are doing it for more than yourself, you are doing it for your whole team. With each stroke, you carry the weight of 30 other guys as you strive to be the first to the wall, and that weight is a burden you couldn't imagine your life without.
After we have swum thousands of laps for hundreds of hours of our year, we race for only a few minutes. We hear the buzzer go off, and we pour our heart and soul into that race knowing that every morning practice, every grueling weight session, every social event we sacrificed, was worth it.
As we push our bodies to the point of complete exhaustion, we sprint to the wall. You're not just racing the person next to you, you are racing the clock, which represents more than just time, it represents generations of swimmers who have
already done what you are doing now and it represents the next wave of racers that will come after you.
You see the wall approaching, you hold your breath, you give every ounce of energy you have left in your body. You give one last lunge and look back at the clock.
And then its over.

Synopsis
Perth (Chutavuth Pattarakampol) and Tan (Thanapob Leeratanakajorn) are both best friends and longtime rivals. No matter how hard Perth tries, he can never out do Tan. Life gets even more complicated for these two swimmers when Perth starts to fall for Ice (Supassara Thanachart), Tan's girlfriend, who has also developed feelings for Perth as well.
When Ice unexpectedly commits suicide at the swimming pool where the swim team practices, Tan can't keep his depression in check and stops going to swim practice. Now Perth becomes the shoe in for the only university sports quota left.
The opportunity to finally eclipse Tan pushes Perth to train every chance he gets, even if that means swimming alone at night in the same pool where Ice was found dead. One day, Tan reveals to Perth that Ice committed suicide because she was pregnant. Tan goes on a relentless pursuit to find and take revenge on the culprit.

Swimming is a water based sport governed by the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA).
Swimming has been recorded since prehistoric times; the earliest recording of swimming dates back to Stone Age paintings from around 7,000 years ago. Written references date from 2000 BC. Some of the earliest references to swimming include the Gilgamesh, the Iliad, the Odyssey, the Bible, Beowulf, and other sagas. In 1578, Nikolaus Wynmann, a German professor of languages, wrote the first swimming book, The Swimmer or A Dialogue on the Art of Swimming (Der Schwimmer oder ein Zweigespräch über die Schwimmkunst). Competitive swimming in Europe started around 1800, mostly using breaststroke. In 1873, John Arthur Trudgen introduced the trudgen to Western swimming competitions, after copying the front crawl used by Native Americans. Due to a British dislike of splashing, Trudgen employed a scissor kick instead of the front crawl's flutter kick. Swimming was part of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 in Athens. In 1902 Richmond Cavill introduced the front crawl to the Western world. In 1908, the world swimming association, Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), was formed. Butterfly was developed in the 1930s and was at first a variant of breaststroke, until it was accepted as a separate style in 1952.

They say a man can go three days without water to survive.
Clearly they have never met a swimmer.
Albert Einstein was quoted by saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Well I guess you can call us crazy.
Every morning, we get up at 5am to jump in a cold pool and then look at a black line for miles. And with this repetition comes progress.
We push ourselves every day trying to get better.
We reek of chlorine, our hair is fried, and we couldn't be happier about that.
There is no fame in swimming. In the grand scheme of things, your greatest accomplishments in the sport go unnoticed by even your closest friends.
There is no money or professional league in swimming.
Just you and the pool.
That being said, swimmers are not driven by external motivation. In fact, you cannot swim unless you are fueled by the strongest internal motivation. When that alarm goes off in the morning, you pull yourself out of bed because you know that your work today will pay off in the future. You know that all the sweat and tears will be worth it.
They don't make movies about swimming. You don't read about swimming in the newspapers. And, unless its an Olympic year, some don't even consider swimming a sport.
Clearly they have never witnessed it before.
Why do we do this? Why do we put ourselves agonizing practices day in and day out just for one big meet a year? We do this for ourselves. We do this because this is who we are. Swimming is not just a sport for us, it is a way of life. We are the most disciplined, time oriented people you will ever meet in your life. If there is a crossroads, we always take the path with most resistance. We look for hard work, not run away from it.
We are a unique breed of human.
Those who consider swimming an individual sport have never done it before. When you race, you know you are doing it for more than yourself, you are doing it for your whole team. With each stroke, you carry the weight of 30 other guys as you strive to be the first to the wall, and that weight is a burden you couldn't imagine your life without.
After we have swum thousands of laps for hundreds of hours of our year, we race for only a few minutes. We hear the buzzer go off, and we pour our heart and soul into that race knowing that every morning practice, every grueling weight session, every social event we sacrificed, was worth it.
As we push our bodies to the point of complete exhaustion, we sprint to the wall. You're not just racing the person next to you, you are racing the clock, which represents more than just time, it represents generations of swimmers who have
already done what you are doing now and it represents the next wave of racers that will come after you.
You see the wall approaching, you hold your breath, you give every ounce of energy you have left in your body. You give one last lunge and look back at the clock.
And then its over.

Synopsis
Perth (Chutavuth Pattarakampol) and Tan (Thanapob Leeratanakajorn) are both best friends and longtime rivals. No matter how hard Perth tries, he can never out do Tan. Life gets even more complicated for these two swimmers when Perth starts to fall for Ice (Supassara Thanachart), Tan's girlfriend, who has also developed feelings for Perth as well.
When Ice unexpectedly commits suicide at the swimming pool where the swim team practices, Tan can't keep his depression in check and stops going to swim practice. Now Perth becomes the shoe in for the only university sports quota left.

A woman was attacked by a crocodile while swimming on April Fool's Day in Dugong Bay Australia. First her friends thought it was a prank, then they fought the crocodile to try to save her life & her leg.
Dugong Bay Is a popular vacation spot in Western Australia, and Tara Hawkes was Working as a hostess aboard a luxury cruise liner on April Fool’s Day when she decided go out in a dingy to a shallow area for a swimming to cool off. The area is known to have crocodiles so her friend Big Al Sartori checked the water before she dove in. Shortly after getting in the water a crocodile locked it’s jaws onto her leg. She yelled croc and started screaming for help. Al was watching from the shore but initially thought she was playing an April fool’s joke,, until he saw the 9 foot crocodile attached to her leg.
He immediately jumped into the water onto it’s back and started trying to pulling the it’s jaw open,, though you keep a croc’s jaw closed with just a rubber band, the muscles that close a crocodile’s jaws exerts a force of about 1,540 pounds, a force equivalent to a truck falling off a cliff.
Another bystander, Mike Fletcher, jumped in the water to hold Tara’s head above water and keep her from drowning.
Crocodiles can’t bite or chew; instead they really On a lock jaw then pull their prey under water to drown them. If that doesn’t work they resort to a move known as the death roll. The death roll is where the croc pulls it’s victim underwater and turns it over in order to drown it and to rip of pieces of its flesh.
One of the only ways to escape the grip of a crocodile's jaws is to push your thumbs into its eyeballs and it releases its bite. Fortunately Al knew this, and while still on the crocodile’s back he jabbed is fingers into its eyes and pressed as hard as he could. The croc released is grip enough for Mike to pull Tara lose.
Al and Mike then put Tara in a dinghy and they sped back to True North where a helicopter was waiting to airlift her to the hospital. Once there surgeons spent the next four hours desperately trying to piece her leg back together. Tara has made a miraculous recovery after 7 months of intense physiotherapy and both Big Al and Mark won awards for their bravery and selfless act from the Royal Life Saving Society's.

10-Year-Old Girl From Bahrain Youngest Swimmer at Worlds
Alzain Tareq led the parade of swimmers to the starting blocks for the first heat of the 50-meter butterfly at the world championships.
Carrying a white towel, the 10-year-old girl from Bahrain was dwarfed by the taller and much older girls in her heat. A buzz quickly built among spectators in the stands at Kazan Arena, startled at the sight of the tiny figure on the blocks.
"I was wondering how they make suits that small," marveled American star Missy Franklin.
Tareq became the youngest swimmer to ever compete at the worlds on Friday, a major step toward accomplishing her goal of qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
She was last in her preliminary heat with a time of 41.13 seconds, slowest among all 64 swimmers. She finished 15.70 seconds behind leading qualifier Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden, who clocked 25.43.
"I feel so happy," said Tareq, who succeeded in getting a photo of herself with idol Sjostrom.
Her time didn't matter; she is in Kazan to soak up knowledge from her opponents.
"I want to learn the techniques and how they swim," she said.
Tareq trains five days a week in Manama, where she has access to 25- and 50-meter pools in the capital of the Persian Gulf nation, which has no swimming tradition. She attends school from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., rests for an hour and then swims.
"We're not burning her out," said her father Tareq Salem, a former swimmer.
She started swimming at age four, and is being overseen in Kazan by her father. The youngster has raced at meets in her home country as well as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan.
"She has the experience of competing, but this is a completely different level," her father said. "She is loving it."
Tareq is one of 12 girls — all under 12 — training on a team in Bahrain. She is the fastest of them all, so she was chosen by her coach to compete in Kazan.
"I was very, very scared to go for all the attention she is going to get," her father said. "She made history and we are very proud."
Tareq was matter of fact when talking to a horde of media after her race, patiently making her way through a gauntlet of television cameras and reporters.
During her first few days in Kazan, Tareq was busy taking photos with swimmers from countries like Brazil and Japan. Now athletes are approaching her for photos.
"She said, 'Look, these are my idols. I want to beat them in the future,'" her father said. "I said, 'When you reach that time they are probably gone, but you can beat their times.'"
Tareq's mother is Scottish, and her father said the family would consider moving to Britain to train when their daughter turns 14.
Former Olympic champion Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe shared a flight to Kazan with Tareq. When she was 10, Coventry qualified for her first senior meet but was left home because she was too young.
"For a 10-year-old to be able to put into perspective her own goals at this meet is really cool," Coventry said. "It's exciting to see such a young swimmer with so much confidence, and she knows what she wants."
Franklin called Tareq "the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life."
"I got in her warm down lane the other day because I wanted to be friends with her, but I didn't get a chance to talk to her," she said. "Every time she sees me she gives me the biggest smile."
Tareq returns on Saturday to compete in the 50 freestyle, an event dominated by another of her idols, Cate Campbell of Australia.

I don’t know if you have read about him on the news
But if you would like to take some time to watch this video, I’m sure he will leave you an impression
He is a big boy, he is very simple
His emotions are very straightforward
He laughs when he is happy
He cries when he is sad, when he is too happy, when he is winning or when he is losing (yes he cries a lot)
Somehow the media made him seem very…‘evil’
Yes he had made mistakes, I’m sure everybody does, and he’s got his punishment and sanction
But he is trying every effort to correct them
It is hard to be an athlete, and it is even harder to be a top athlete like Sun Yang
Imagine yourself, or your kids
Finishing 13km of swimming on average per day since the age of 12
I don’t think many people even walk this much distance
No holidays, very few family reunions, repeated training every single day for over ten years
You need a strong body, and a strong heart
He is unique
No one in the world can be so competitive from mid to long distance swimming – which are 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m Freestyle
And he would compete all these events in the upcoming Kazan World Championships
He is carrying a lot of pressure, as the whole world is watching him
He had reached the peak of his career, and he had fell to the bottom
Life had knocked him down several times
And each time he only became stronger
It is hard to return to the highest level after experiencing the lowest
But as you can see in this video, he is making it happen
Again imagine yourself or your kids
Diagnosed with an ischemic heart condition at the age of 17
Will you still carry on with your sports career, which is extremely physically challenging?
For Sun Yang, I guess the answer is Yes
Other than his family and doctor, no one in the world knew about this heart condition
Until his heart medication gave him a positive urine test
His name had flooded the headlines during that time
And some media were distorting the fact by calling him cheating
It was tough time, but fortunately he survived
He didn’t give up, he is still working hard, and he is still making miracles happen

At the Race Club we find the benefits of yoga to strengthen and lengthen muscles, help improve recovery and nutrition giving an Athlete and advantage in competing at a top level and prevent injury from occurring. In this core exercise video we have incorporated traditional Vinyasa Yoga with some of our favorite core exercises that seamlessly blend into this intense and rewarding Yoga for Swimmers sequence.
Richard Hall and The Race Club created this Yoga for Swimmers Core Exercise sequence for you to follow along at home or practice with your team. So grab a couple yoga blocks, roll out your mat and get ready to sweat with elite athletes and Olympians; Rebecca Soni, Junya Koga, Lexie Kelly and Zach Hayden led by Amy Hall from The Race Club. No matter your level or ability, we believe yoga for swimmers can benefit your swimming and general well being. Just like in the pool, we advocate correct technique over forced, and sloppy form.
