"Follow You, Follow Me" was a 1978 single by the British band Genesis. The music was written by Tony Banks, Phil Collins, and Mike Rutherford, with lyrics by Rutherford. Originally released as the last track from their 1978 album "...And Then There Were Three...", the single was the first by Genesis to reach the American Top 40 (#23). It was also a harbinger of the more radio-friendly direction Genesis would take over the next decade. The slower, overtly sentimental love-themed "Follow You, Follow Me" was a departure from their previous work, and indeed the rest of the album. Although previous albums contained love ballads, such as "More Fool Me" from "Selling England By The Pound", "Follow You, Follow Me" was the first worldwide pop success by the group and gained the band play on adult contemporary and pop music stations. The band had all agreed that their music was attracting mainly male audiences, almost 95% in fact. This song was written specifically to redress the balance. "...And Then There Were Three... " was the ninth studio album by Genesis and was released in 1978. It was the band's first album without guitarist Steve Hackett, and the third with Phil Collins on lead vocals, having replaced Peter Gabriel after his departure in 1975. A pivotal release in the band's history, the title "...And Then There Were Three... " is a wry reference to the recent departure of guitarist Steve Hackett, reducing Genesis to a trio. Genesis are an English rock band that formed in 1967. The band currently comprises the longest-tenured members Phil Collins (lead vocals and drums, born Philip David Charles Collins, 30 January 1951), Mike Rutherford (guitar and bass guitar, born Michael John Cleote Crawford Rutherford 2 October 1950), and Tony Banks (keyboards, born Anthony George Banks 27 March 1950). Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett also played major roles in the band in its early years. Genesis is among the top 30 highest-selling recording artists of all time with approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide.
