Honda Cars India started accepting bookings for its BR-V SUV via dealerships across India. The new SUV is slated for launch on May 5 and the Japanese company has already started a digital campaign christened as #WhereNextWithBRV to connect with the prospective buyers. Based on the extended Brio platform, the Honda BRV is the third product developed by Honda R&D; Asia Pacific Co Ltd. (HRAP) in Thailand. BR-V has already been launched in Indonesia and Thailand, where the bookings and sales for the car are high. The BR-V measures 4,453mm in length, 1,735mm in width, and 1,666mm in height and comes with a wheelbase of 2,655mm. The BR-V will be powered by a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that develops 120bhp at 6,600rpm and 145Nm at 4,600rpm, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. A new continuously variable transmission (CVT) is also available. The market favour for diesel engine is expected to compel Honda to launch BR-V in diesel engine too. If Honda intends to go for diesel, expect the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine, which is employed in most diesel cars offered by Honda in the country. The BR-V will come equipped with safety features such as dual SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and Hill Start Assist (HAS). Honda Cars India has already started the production of the SUV at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. The vehicle will come with premium interiors, high road clearance and powerful engine, Sen said. Besides, BR-V, the company also plans to introduce Accord Hybrid during the festive season. It has already launched an updated version of its compact sedan Amaze last month. Honda’s 7-seater compact SUV is significantly longer, wider and taller than its closest rivals i.e. the Creta and the Duster. To ensure passengers’ safety, Honda equips the car with multiple advanced safety equipment such as anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), dual front airbags, hill start assist and vehicle stability assist (VSA). The company also claims that the Honda BR-V will be high on performance and fuel efficiency. For the Indian market, the Honda BR-V will be offered with both, petrol and diesel, engine options. The petrol version of the car will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine that delivers a maximum power of 118bhp at 6,600rpm, while producing a peak torque of 145Nm at 4,600rpm. On the other side, the diesel version will derive its power from a 1.5-litre i-DTEC motor that is good enough for 98.6bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. According to reports, the Honda BRV might come with a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine instead of the 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit. The petrol engine, with Zig-zag piston coating pattern and CCS (cooling control spacer) and two “advanced transmissions” – a new 6-speed manual and a CVT -, is claimed to offer “sporty performance and great fuel efficiency”. In order to achieve high fuel efficiency, Honda has increased its gear ratio range, and reduced the friction and frame weight.
