"A hand grenade of a film, it makes you laugh even as your blood chills", 1968's If... shot the actor, Malcolm McDowell to fame, confirmed the reputation of Lindsay Anderson as one of the most important film directors of the 20th century, and coincided with the waves of radical student riots in Europe, America and Japan in the late nineteen sixties.

David Sherwin (Screenwriter)
David Sherwin was the co-author and screenwriter of If... which earned him the prestigious British Writers Guild Award. He went on to collaborate with director and close friend Lindsay Anderson on a number of projects including the screenplay for the films O Lucky Man and Britannia Hospital. Sherwin's autobiographical account of his experiences in Hollywood and his years of collaboration with Lindsay Anderson was published in 1996 under the title of Going Mad In Hollywood: and Life With Lindsay Anderson. Working from his home in the Gloucestershire hills, David Sherwin is currently overseeing the cinematic adaptation of Going Mad in Hollywood.
Miroslav Ondricek (Cinematographer)
World famous director of photography, Miroslav Ondricek, began his career with the emergence of the Czech New Wave in the early 1960s. Ondricek made his professional debut with Milos Forman's 1962 feature, Talent Competition, beginning an association with the director which has lasted for over 25 years. Ondricek has also worked with countrymen Jan Nemec and Ivan Passer and shot three films for Lindsay Anderson. Ondricek has also worked on many hugely successful commercially films including Awakenings, A League of Their Own and Riding in Cars with Boys.
Stephen Frears ( Assistant to the director)
Stephen Frears began his career as an assistant director working for the likes of Karel Reisz and Lindsay Anderson before directing his first feature, Gumshoe in 1972. He has gone on to become one of today's most influential British film directors, finding commercial and critical success with credits including Prick Up Your Ears, Sammy and Rosie Get Laid, Dangerous Liaisons and was Oscar nominated for The Grifters. Noted for his valuable creative ties with writers including Alan Bennett, David Hare, Hanif Kureishi and Roddy Doyle, in 2000 Frears adapted Nick Hornby's best-selling High Fidelity and Jimmy McGovern's autobiographical Liam . His recent fim Dirty Pretty Things was nominated for the 2003 Outstanding British Film Of The Year Award.
Ian Rakoff Assistant Editor
Prolific writer and editor Ian Rakoff was forced to leave South Africa and move to Britain in 1961. His keen interested in socially and politically conscious filmmaking led him to become associated with a number of filmmakers motivated by social concerns. He first edited Stephen Frears' directorial film debut The Burning in 1968 before moving on to work with Lindsay Anderson on If... and later with John Boorman on Deliverance in 1972. He also worked as a writer and editor on the cult television series The Prisoner.
Malcolm McDowell (Actor - Mick Travis)
Malcolm McDowell produced sterling work through the sixties and seventies with directors such as Lindsay Anderson and Stanley Kubrick. His on screen persona made him the perfect choice to play Alex, the Urban gang leader in A Clockwork Orange, a role that made McDowell infamous and established him as one of the leading stars of British Cinema. More recently his performances have been acclaimed in the BBC's hit drama Our Friends in the North and in Paul McGuigan's feature film, Gangster No1.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is a British public service broadcaster headquartered at Broadcasting House in the City of Westminster, London. It is the largest broadcaster in the world, with about 23,000 staff. Its main responsibility is to provide impartial public service broadcasting in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
The BBC is a semi-autonomous public service broadcaster that operates under a Royal Charter and a Licence and Agreement from the Home Secretary. Within the United Kingdom its work is funded principally by an annual television licence fee, which is charged to all British households, companies and organisations using any type of equipment to record and/or receive live television broadcasts; the level of the fee is set annually by the British Government and agreed by Parliament.
Outside the UK, the BBC World Service has provided services by direct broadcasting and re-transmission contracts by sound radio since the inauguration of the BBC Empire Service in December 1932, and more recently by television and online. Though sharing some of the facilities of the domestic services, particularly for news and current affairs output, the World Service has a separate Managing Director, and its operating costs have historically been funded mainly by direct grants from the British government. These grants were determined independently of the domestic licence fee and were usually awarded from the budget of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. As such, the BBC's international content has traditionally represented – at least in part – an effective foreign policy tool of the British Government. The recent BBC World Service spending review has announced plans for the funding for the world service to be drawn from the domestic licence fee.

Altaf Hussain (Urdu: الطاف حسین) (born 17 September 1953 in Karachi) is the founder and leader of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM). The MQM emerged as the third largest political party in the national assembly of Pakistan during 1988 and 1990 elections. The MQM secured representation in the parliamentary elections held in the northern areas of Pakistan comprising Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan. Since 1992 he has lived in the United Kingdom in self exile after surviving an assassination attempt in Pakistan.
Altaf Hussain was born to Nazir Hussain and Khursheed Begum on 17 September 1953 in Karachi.His parents belonged to religious families from Agra, India. After the formation of Pakistan in 1947, his parents migrated to Pakistan and settled in Karachi. Hussain’s grand-father, Mufti Mohammad Ramazan, was Grand Mufti of the town of Agra, UP, India and his maternal grand-father Haji Hafiz Raheem Bhux was a reputed religious scholar in India.
Altaf Hussain got his early education from Govt Comprehensive School, Azizabad No. 8 Karachi. He then completed his matriculation in 1969 from Government Boys Secondary School. He attended National College Karachi during First Year of his Intermediate Education (Pre-Medical/Science) but switched to City College Karachi during Second Year of Intermediate from where he completed Intermediate.After that he went on to complete his Bachelors of Science from Islamia Science College (Karachi) in 1974 apart from completing his Bachelor of Pharmacy by 1979 from the University of Karachi. After completion of his Bachelor of Pharmacy he later enrolled for his Master’s degree.

Shahrukh Khan (pronounced [‘ʃaːɦrəx ˈxaːn]; born 2 November 1965), often credited as Shah Rukh Khan and informally referred to as SRK, is an Indian film actor. Known as "The King of Bollywood", Khan has acted in over 70 Hindi films. He has won fourteen Filmfare Awards from thirty nominations for his work in Indian films and shares the record for the highest number of Best Actor awards with Dilip Kumar, eight wins. In 2005, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for his contributions towards Indian cinema.
After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in economics, he started his career appearing in theatre and several television serials in the late 1980s and later made his Hindi film debut in 1992 with Deewana. Early in his career he was recognised for his unconventional choice of negative roles in films such as Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993) and Anjaam (1994). Since then he has played leading roles in a wide variety of film genres, including romantic films, comedies, thrillers, action films, sport films, and historical dramas among others.

"A hand grenade of a film, it makes you laugh even as your blood chills", 1968's If... shot the actor, Malcolm McDowell to fame, confirmed the reputation of Lindsay Anderson as one of the most important film directors of the 20th century, and coincided with the waves of radical student riots in Europe, America and Japan in the late nineteen sixties.

Evan Davis explores the story of the economic forces polarising Britain in this new two-part series for BBC Two.
London generates more than a fifth of Britain’s income and is pulling away from the rest of the country. While much of Britain struggles after the crash, Evan unwraps the economic formula propelling London from strength to strength.
And he meets winners and losers in Britain’s changing economic geography – including a man who commutes from Stockport to London most weeks; London Mayor Boris Johnson, who likens the city to an anemone, a tadpole and a jar of jam; the chef behind the global Zuma restaurant empire; and the property developer selling a house in Mayfair for £40 million.
The capital flourishes partly because it attracts more than its share of talented people. Graduates make up 58 per cent of the city’s work force, compared with 38 per cent in the working age population in the rest of the UK.
In redeveloped Kings Cross, Evan shows how agglomeration economics fuels London’s success. At the new Francis Crick scientific research institute, he explores how working in proximity to others enables copying, collaborating and competing – which promote productivity. Nearby, Google is moving in because they like the neighbours – the Central St Martins art school.
With foreign money flowing into London like never before, the city has become a global hub. Evan meets one of Malaysia’s most successful property developers, the largest investor in the transformation of Battersea Power Station into flats and shops. What if all this foreign investment turns out to be not just easy come, but easy go?
There are challenges ahead. The city struggles to fit in all the people it attracts – seen in London’s rising property prices. In the Elephant and Castle, Evan explores how, as the rich come in, they potentially push out the less wealthy.
In tunnels being built under London for Crossrail, the capital’s newest rail line, Evan explores the final dilemma the city’s success raises for Britain: should we continue to feed London’s growth with public spending on new infrastructure even if it means our economy continues moving south?
