Welcome to Ottawa, Ontario, where you’ll find charming old-world buildings surrounded by picturesque natural beauty.
The first stop on an Ottawa tour should be the Rideau Canal. This waterway cuts the city in half, and it provides places for boating and paddleboarding during the summer. Visiting in winter? Not a problem—you can go ice skating along the Rideau when it ices over. On the south side of the river, you can see the Changing of the Guard Ceremony at Parliament Hill. A few blocks to the north is the National Gallery of Canada, a stunning glass-and-granite building full of art from Canadian, European, and other North American artists.
You’ll be hungry after all this walking around, so head to ByWard Market. If you see beavertails, don’t worry; they’re a pastry, not part of an actual beaver—and they’re delicious. Ottawa (
i/ˈɒtəwɑː/ or /ˈɒtəwə/) is the capital of Canada. It is the second largest city in Ontario and the fourth largest city in the country. The city is located on the south bank of the Ottawa River in the eastern portion of Southern Ontario. Ottawa borders Gatineau, Quebec, located on the north bank of the Ottawa River; together they form the National Capital Region (NCR).
Founded in 1826 as Bytown and incorporated as "Ottawa" in 1855, the city has evolved into a political and technological centre of Canada. Its original boundaries were expanded through numerous minor annexations and ultimately replaced by a new city incorporation and major amalgamation in 2001 which significantly increased its land area. The name "Ottawa" is derived from the Algonquin word adawe, meaning "to trade". Initially an Irish and French Christian settlement, Ottawa has become a multicultural city with a diverse population.
The 2011 census had the city's population as 883,391, and the metropolitan population as 1,236,324.Mercer ranks Ottawa with the second highest quality of living of any large city in the Americas, and 14th highest in the world. It is also rated the second cleanest city in Canada, and third cleanest city in the world. In 2012, the city was ranked for the third consecutive year as the best community in Canada to live in by MoneySense.

Trump is the son of Fred Trump, a wealthy New York City real-estate developer. He worked for his father's firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son, while attending the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1968 officially joined the company. He was given control of the company in 1971 and renamed it The Trump Organization.
In 2010, Trump expressed an interest in becoming a candidate for President of the United States in the 2012 election. In May 2011, he announced he would not be a candidate, but a few weeks later he said he had not completely ruled out the possibility. In December 2011, Trump was suggested as a possible Vice Presidential selection by Michele Bachmann. Bachmann has since suspended her presidential campaign.

Video of a beating inside an Ottawa jail shows Carlos Larmond, who is facing terrorism-related charges along with his twin brother, being attacked after allegedly trying to convert another inmate to Islam. The incident occurred March 3 at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre. Video of the incident, played in an Ottawa courtroom Thursday, shows two men viciously attack Larmond with a flurry of punches and kicks while surrounded by other inmates. At one point in the video one of the men appears to drop an object on Larmond before he is able to get to his feet and is escorted out by correctional officers. Terrence Wilson, 24, was sentenced on Thursday to 60 days in jail for assault causing bodily harm related in the attack. Paolo Giancaterino, the lawyer representing Wilson, told Global News ... -

Every year I head to a wakesurf content just outside of Ottawa! This year I wanted set aside a day to explore Ottawa. The forecast called for rain all weekend, so there was a very good chance that this video was going to be a bust. We woke up on Sunday August 2nd and there was sun! I quickly competed in my surf contest and made my way into the City with my friends. We arrived at 2:30pm and shot from 3pm just after 8pm. This is what I could capture in 5 hours of exploring. A big thanks to all my Ottawa friends for making so many great suggestions. :)

The incident occurred March 3 at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre. Video of the incident, played in an Ottawa courtroom Thursday, shows two men viciously attack Larmond with a flurry of punches and kicks while surrounded by other inmates. At one point in the video one of the men appears to drop an object on Larmond before he is able to get to his feet and is escorted out by correctional officers.
Terrence Wilson, 24, was sentenced on Thursday to 60 days in jail for assault causing bodily harm related in the attack.
Paolo Giancaterino, the lawyer representing Wilson, told Global News Larmond had tried to convert his client to Islam on several occasions and threatened to kill him when he resisted.
“It first started with some friendly requests for him to convert to Islam and be a soldier of Islam, and my client was having none of it,” Giancaterino said. “It escalated to the point where threats were starting to be made that my client would be killed in his cell if he didn’t convert. That was followed up by another threat that my client’s family would be killed by someone on the outside if he didn’t convert.”
Giancaterino said the threats escalated over a period of several weeks.
Giancaterino said Larmond suffered a broken left hand and a black eye in the beating.

Both have been charged with participation in the activity of a terrorist group and for attempting to leave Canada to participate in terrorist activity abroad. Ashton has also been charged instruction to carry out activity for a terrorist group.
Attempts to reach the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services for comment were not successful.

Ein Rundgang führt auf die andere Seite des Ottawa zum „Museum of Civilisation". Von hier aus kann man sehr gut erkennen woher der Parliaments Hill seinen Namen hat.
Sehr gut ist der Beginn des Rideau-Kanals mit seinen 8 Schleusenstufen erkennbar, die an dieser Stelle 24 m überwinden. Die Erhebung daneben wird vom Hotel Château Laurier überragt.
Das Museum of Civilisation, entworfen von Douglas Cardinal, gilt als Meisterleistung der Architektur. Es wurde ausschließlich aus einheimischen Materialien hergestellt und besitzt nur Rundungen und keine Kanten.
Auf der anderen Seite des Ottawa erhebt sich auf einer Anhöhe die Nationalgalerie mit Kanadas größter Sammlung europäischer Kunst.
Daneben die Basilika Notre Dame, Sitz des Erzbischofs.
An der US-Botschaft vorbei gelangt man zum Majors Hill Park, einem rege besuchten Treffpunkt und einem Ort der Entspannung zugleich. Ein Aufenthalt an den Balustraden gewährt einen privilegierten Ausblick auf das Geschehen in den Schleusen des Rideau-Kanals. Man wird feststellen, dass sie auch heute noch von Hand betrieben werden.
Der Rideau-Kanal friert gewöhnlich während der Wintermonate ein und wird zur vielleicht längsten Schlittschuhbahn der Welt. Daneben liegen das Government Conference Centre und das Rideau Centre, das zum Shopping einlädt.
Das Hotel Château Laurier wurde 1912 im Stil eines französischen Schlosses als Prestigeobjekt der Canadian National erbaut. Später wurde es an die Canadian Pacific verkauft.
Vor dem Parlament zieht gerade die Happy Pride Parade vorüber, ein Spektakel etwas anderen Charakters, das Gegenstück zur Christopher Street Parade.
Ein Katzensprung vom Parlament entfernt liegt das Currency Museum und zeigt alles über historische Münzen und Banknoten. Beeindruckend allein ist schon die Eingangshalle. Sie ist nämlich an die zwölf Stockwerke hoch, eine wahre Kathedrale des Geldes.
Abends ein Bummel durch die Sparks Street Mall. Man kann sicher sein, nicht ohne Straßenkonzert heimgehen zu müssen.

Ottawa, Canada, owes a good part of its charm not only his residents but as well the stunning reflections of the Victorian buildings in the glass facades of the modern skyscrapers. Everywhere, one has tried to merge historical with modern architecture.
Our tour leads to the other side of the Ottawa river to the Museum of Civilization. From here one can recognize very well where the Parliaments Hill got its name from.
The beginning of the Rideau Canal is very good recognizably with the 8 sluice steps which overcome 24 m at this point. The hotel Château Laurier dominates the elevation next to it.
The Museum of Civilization, designed by Douglas Cardinal, is considered as a masterpiece of architecture. It was built solely with domestic materials and has only curves and no edges.
On a hill at the other side of the Ottawa river is the National Gallery, Canada's largest collection of European art.
Besides you see the Notre-Dame Basilica, the seat of the Archbishop.
Past the U.S. Embassy we reach the Majors Hill Park, a popular meeting place and a lively place but at the same time a place to relax. A stay on the balustrades grants a privileged view of what is happening in the locks of the Rideau Canal. You can see that up to now, they are still operated by hand.
Usually, the Rideau Canal freezes during the winter months; then it is perhaps the longest skating rink in the world. Next to it you find the Government Conference Centre and the Rideau Centre that invites you for a shopping tour.

It ended up being one of coolest weekends I've had in a long time. These days, I'm slaving away at school work while trying to keep up with my online work commitments most weekends. Getting outside of my apartment and traveling again reinvigorated me in a way that I haven't felt in quite some time.
During my less than 48 hour visit, Rob and I covered a lot of the main attractions in Ottawa along with spending plenty of time of time dedicated for eating, drinking, catching up and talking about our travels dreams and future projects we have on the go.
Visiting Ottawa - First Impressions of the capital city of Canada script:
Well, it is time to escape Kingston this weekend. I'm going to Ottawa via train and I'm going to meet one of my good buddies Rob. He does what we do. His website is Stop Having A Boring Life Dot Com and he also has a YouTube channel by the same name. I'm flying solo today. Audrey is at a conference in Washington DC, so I'll be all alone on my train journey.
This is the first time I've taken a train in Canada during winter months. With it only being a two hour ride I enjoyed looking out the window at the snow covered scenery while also catching up on some much needed rest.
It is my first time ever in Ottawa. Now it is time to go find Rob.
Alright, so I've met up with my buddy Rob. He's taking me to his favorite sushi place. All you can eat. We are just going to absolutely crush a meal here. We are.
What did we order so far? Oh man. We got yummy yummy rolls, rainbow rolls, dragon rolls, sushi nagari. We've got seaweed salad, which I love, miso soup spare ribs. Um...we've got everything! Hahaha! We're just going to pig out.
Here my man Rob has got the beaver tail. So what exactly are these? Beavertails, are like an iconic Canadian snack - especially in Ottawa. Basically, it is just dough but it looks like a beaver tail. If you know what a beaver is. It totally does. And it is covered in brown sugar and this one here is called the killer loose sunrise because it also has lemon. It is my personal favorite and you can't come to Ottawa without having one. Let's devour these. Do it man.
Alright, we're doing this man. First bite. That is so good man. It's so sweet and delicious. I'm going to eat them both. Be my guest.
After feasting on food, Rob did a great job playing tour guide showing me around Ottawa. Some of places we covered included the Parliament Hill, the National War Memorial, Rideau Canal, the National Gallery of Canada, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Terry Fox statue. Man, I can't believe we did that much all in one day. Afterwards we headed to his place for dinner and beers.
Well, Rob gave me the awesome tour of Ottawa. It is so cool meeting up with him again. We've known each other online for like several years. We finally met up in Germany for the first time. Yeah! And we do the same thing - we're totally on the same wavelength. Why don't well tell all of our viewers at Samuel and Audrey what is it that you do? And what is your site and all of that?
Basically, I do what these guys do and there is a lot of other people doing it. And I really enjoy hanging out with guys like Sam or other people that do what I like to do. Because we share the same passion about what we do. What we do is we travel and somehow through sharing a lot of content, because we love doing it, it has managed to turn into more than that. Where other opportunities come up and that helps perpetuate doing it even more. I run Stop Having A Boring Life. It is my blog but it is also my YouTube channel here. So, the link is probably going to be in the description. Yeah, absolutely and Rob really lives up to that man. This guy does not live a boring life, trust me. So I travel basically most of the year. I live in the Caribbean and I stay there for three or four months a year usually and then the rest of the year I'm just out and about traveling around. Cool experiences. Documenting. I used to write it on my blog all the time but now I am more into video so basically I'm making daily vlogs and different random things as well. But I basically do what Sam does and I travel around working on my laptop and getting into adventures.

Founded in 1826 as Bytown, and incorporated as "Ottawa" in 1855, the city has evolved into a political and technological centre of Canada. Its original boundaries were expanded through numerous minor annexations and were ultimately replaced by a new city incorporation and major amalgamation in 2001 which significantly increased its land area.
