Pops! More blackheads, TNTC. It's his first session so be patient! For medical education- NSFE.

For medical education- NSFE. This sweet man just lost his wife (and they were inseparable), after a difficult and painful illness. He looks like he has aged 10 years in 10 months. He has had to move into an assisted living facility, and is trying to make new friends, but it's difficult. I usually see him for skin cancer checks, but today I asked him if the bumps on his nose bothered him. He said "YES!". So I tried to remove as many as I could during his visit. As you can see, he really wanted them removed, but doesn't like any discomfort, so I had to be very gentle with him and couldn't get them all. I skip around to different areas in order to minimize the discomfort.. I kind of circle and come back to particularly uncomfortable sites like the nostrils, so as to give him a little break between squeezes. Don't worry, I'll try to get them all! He'll be back in a month! This case, though, is a teaching point for me. No matter how old a patient gets, even if they can't walk well or can't see or hear well... they still are so appreciative if you do something as simple as extract their blackheads.. They can't do it themselves, and it really makes them feel better and look better.

This is "Pop's" most recent visit, getting his blackheads extracted. Part 1

Many of you know of Pop's story. He's a wonderful, elderly patient of mine who has many blackheads/ comedones on his nose, that makes it feel very bumpy and misshapen to him. I see him regularly because of his history of skin cancer, but in the last few months, I have been extracting his blackheads and whiteheads to help him improve his appearance.. he cannot do it on his own as he has poor vision, and his blackheads are deep.. often I need to nick the surface of the skin to extract them, and this should be done in the dermatologist's office, under clean, sterile conditions. Many of you have fallen in love with "Pops", as he has shared with us the financial and emotional distress he has been going through, with the recent death of his beloved wife. If you would like to donate or send him a message, please visit his gofundme at gofundme.com/s2h23s Blackheads and whiteheads are open and closed comedones, in this case caused by his oily complection, rosacea and slight rhinophyma, and chronic cumulative sun exposure over his lifetime. All of this created dilated follicles, especially on the nose, that get plugged with keratin/skin cells, creating large whiteheads and blackheads. These are benign and don't require medical treatment. However, they are often cause for concern and embarrassment for patients, and they often seek treatment. In this case, I used local anesthesia to numb area of the skin, and needed to make a nick in the skin surface with a sharp 11 blade, before extracting his comedones with a Schaumberg comedone extractor. Since he is on blood thinners, he has some mild bleeding from nicked areas of the skin, but this should all resolve very well with no residual discomfort or scarring. This is his 4th visit, part 1 of 2, and he is looking better after every treatment! Thank you for watching!

For medical education- NSFE. This is Part 2 of the Second session for our older gentleman, who lost his wife recently. His first session was about a month ago, and is posted here on my youtube channel. He is having a hard time adjusting to his new home and keeping up with all the responsibilities that weigh heavy on his shoulders now. He still has a wonderful sense of humor, and you can see this shine through. He is very appreciative for all your kind words, and I know he sometimes sounds sad and stressed during his visit with me, but I know he is strong, and he will pull through. "Pops" blackhead extractions session 3, Part 2

Here's part 2 of Pop's blackhead extraction sessions. Although he still has many blackheads on his nose, the ones that are left are particularly difficult to extract. If they are open comedones (blackheads) they are pretty hardened and sticky. The closed comedones (whiteheads) are under the surface of the skin and tough to get to with just a simple extraction. Therefore, many superficial nicks in the surface of the skin had to be made to allow extraction of his comedones. Many of the areas were anesthetized first with a little local anesthetic, and all the superficial nicks will heal well without any residual scarring. He is such a wonderful person, and so appreciative of all that has been done to make his life more comfortable these days. I didn't tell you guys that he let me do some more blackhead extractions during our last visit a few weeks ago! Many of you know "Pops" and if you don't follow his story on my YouTube channel! He has many large blackheads and whiteheads, especially around his nose. Here, I try to extract as many as I can, without him getting too uncomfortable. He is darling, and he knows we appreciate him so! Today I noticed that he has a basal cell carcinoma a non life threatening type of skin cancer, which was biopsies during this visit, and will be removed completely in the near future. I didn't tell you guys that he let me do some more blackhead extractions during our last visit a few weeks ago! Many of you know "Pops" and if you don't follow his story on my YouTube channel! He has many large blackheads and whiteheads, especially around his nose. Here, I try to extract as many as I can, without him getting too uncomfortable. He is darling, and he knows we appreciate him so! Today I noticed that he has a basal cell carcinoma a non life threatening type of skin cancer, which was biopsies during this visit, and will be removed completely in the near future. This has been a year of so many blackhead extractions and cyst excisions!! Many more than all my years as a dermatologist (over 10 years) combined! I didn't realize something that I may do or see on a regular basis as a dermatologist would be so interesting to so many people, and this fascinates me. For many of you, my videos are exciting and you describe them as "gross but oddly satisfying", and for others, you actually watch them to relax you and to help to sleep! Still others have dermatillomania, which is an obsession with and a compulsion to pick your own skin, and these videos help you to diminish this urge. Most importantly, this has hopefully been an educational experience for you, (which is what this all is about, after all). Do you know the difference between a blackhead and a whitehead? Between a comedone and a milium? A pilar cyst versus an epidermoid cyst? An abscess versus a lipoma? If you've watched most of my videos... you BETTER! So I thought to thank you and to also review what we all have learned this last year in dermatology, I would put together a collection of my 10 favorite blackhead extractions I did this year, 2015. Hopefully, these examples will show you how I properly and in a sterile and safe environment, extract blackheads, aka closed comedones. As you know, all of this is done by a board certified dermatologist (me), in the office setting. The intent is to improve and clear the complexion with little to no risk of scarring or other unwanted complications. For medical education- NSFE. This sweet man just lost his wife (and they were inseparable), after a difficult and painful illness. He looks like he has aged 10 years in 10 months. He has had to move into an assisted living facility, and is trying to make new friends, but it's difficult. I usually see him for skin cancer checks, but today I asked him if the bumps on his nose bothered him. He said "YES!". So I tried to remove as many as I could during his visit. As you can see, he really wanted them removed, but doesn't like any discomfort, so I had to be very gentle with him and couldn't get them all. I skip around to different areas in order to minimize the discomfort.. I kind of circle and come back to particularly uncomfortable sites like the nostrils, so as to give him a little ...

Many of you know of Pop's story. He's a wonderful, elderly patient of mine who has many blackheads/ comedones on his nose, that makes it feel very bumpy and misshapen to him. I see him regularly because of his history of skin cancer, but in the last few months, I have been extracting his blackheads and whiteheads to help him improve his appearance.. he cannot do it on his own as he has poor vision, and his blackheads are deep.. often I need to nick the surface of the skin to extract them, and this should be done in the dermatologist's office, under clean, sterile conditions. For medical education- NSFE. This is Part 2 of the Second session for our older gentleman, who lost his wife recently. His first session was about a month ago, and is posted here on my youtube channel. He is having a hard time adjusting to his new home and keeping up with all the responsibilities that weigh heavy on his shoulders now. He still has a wonderful sense of humor, and you can see this shine through. He is very appreciative for all your kind words, and I know he sometimes sounds sad and stressed during his visit with me, but I know he is strong, and he will pull through. "Pops" blackhead extractions session 3, Part 2
Here's part 2 of Pop's blackhead extraction sessions. Although he still has many blackheads on his nose, the ones that are left are particularly difficult to extract. If they are open comedones (blackheads) they are pretty hardened and sticky. The closed comedones (whiteheads) are under the surface of the skin and tough to get to with just a simple extraction. Therefore, many superficial nicks in the surface of the skin had to be made to allow extraction of his comedones. Many of the areas were anesthetized first with a little local anesthetic, and all the superficial nicks will heal well without any residual scarring. For medical education- NSFE. This sweet man just lost his wife (and they were inseparable), after a difficult and painful illness. He looks like he has aged 10 years in 10 months. He has had to move into an assisted living facility, and is trying to make new friends, but it's difficult. I usually see him for skin cancer checks, but today I asked him if the bumps on his nose bothered him. He said "YES!". So I tried to remove as many as I could during his visit. As you can see, he really wanted them removed, but doesn't like any discomfort, so I had to be very gentle with him and couldn't get them all. I skip around to different areas in order to minimize the discomfort.. I kind of circle and come back to particularly uncomfortable sites like the nostrils, so as to give him a little break between squeezes. Don't worry, I'll try to get them all! He'll be back in a month! This case, though, is a teaching point for me. No matter how old a patient gets, even if they can't walk well or can't see or hear well... they still are so appreciative if you do something as simple as extract their blackheads.. They can't do it themselves, and it really makes them feel better and look better.

Many of you know of Pop's story. He's a wonderful, elderly patient of mine who has many blackheads/ comedones on his nose, that makes it feel very bumpy and misshapen to him. I see him regularly because of his history of skin cancer, but in the last few months, I have been extracting his blackheads and whiteheads to help him improve his appearance.. he cannot do it on his own as he has poor vision, and his blackheads are deep.. often I need to nick the surface of the skin to extract them, and this should be done in the dermatologist's office, under clean, sterile conditions. Many of you have fallen in love with "Pops", as he has shared with us the financial and emotional distress he has been going through, with the recent death of his beloved wife. These are benign and don't require medical treatment. However, they are often cause for concern and embarrassment for patients, and they often seek treatment. In this case, I used local anesthesia to numb area of the skin, and needed to make a nick in the skin surface with a sharp 11 blade, before extracting his comedones with a Schaumberg comedone extractor. Since he is on blood thinners, he has some mild bleeding from nicked areas of the skin, but this should all resolve very well with no residual discomfort or scarring. Here's part 2 of Pop's blackhead extraction sessions. Although he still has many blackheads on his nose, the ones that are left are particularly difficult to extract. If they are open comedones (blackheads) they are pretty hardened and sticky. The closed comedones (whiteheads) are under the surface of the skin and tough to get to with just a simple extraction. Therefore, many superficial nicks in the surface of the skin had to be made to allow extraction of his comedones. Many of the areas were anesthetized first with a little local anesthetic, and all the superficial nicks will heal well without any residual scarring. He is such a wonderful person, and so appreciative of all that has been done to make his life more comfortable these days. I didn't realize something that I may do or see on a regular basis as a dermatologist would be so interesting to so many people, and this fascinates me. For many of you, my videos are exciting and you describe them as "gross but oddly satisfying", and for others, you actually watch them to relax you and to help to sleep! Still others have dermatillomania, which is an obsession with and a compulsion to pick your own skin, and these videos help you to diminish this urge. Most importantly, this has hopefully been an educational experience for you, (which is what this all is about, after all). Do you know the difference between a blackhead and a whitehead? Between a comedone and a milium? A pilar cyst versus an epidermoid cyst? An abscess versus a lipoma? If you've watched most of my videos... you BETTER! So I thought to thank you and to also review what we all have learned this last year in dermatology, I would put together a collection of my 10 favorite blackhead extractions I did this year, 2015. Hopefully, these examples will show you how I properly and in a sterile and safe environment, extract blackheads, aka closed comedones. Do you know the difference between a "SoftPop" and a "HardPop"? I would classify a softpop as a simple blackhead extraction or a removal of milia. These are classified as procedures and not surgeries. There is usually no knife involved (maybe a sharp blade to pierce the overlying skin), and no sutures placed. A hardpop is usually a surgery, a removal of a growth that is deeper in the skin, deeper than the superficial dermis/papular dermis. Often times, these are surgeries done using sterile technique, local anesthesia is placed, and often sutures are used to close the wound made to pop the growth out. For medical education- NSFE. This sweet man just lost his wife (and they were inseparable), after a difficult and painful illness. He looks like he has aged 10 years in 10 months. He has had to move into an assisted living facility, and is trying to make new friends, but it's difficult. I usually see him for skin cancer checks, but today I asked him if the bumps on his nose bothered him. He said "YES!". So I tried to remove as many as I could during his visit. As you can see, he really wanted them removed, but doesn't like any discomfort, so I had to be very gentle with him and couldn't get them all. I skip around to different areas in order to minimize the discomfort.. I kind of circle and come back to particularly uncomfortable sites like the nostrils, so as to give him a little break between squeezes. Don't worry, I'll try to get them all! He'll be back in a month! This case, though, is a teaching point for me. No matter how old a patient gets, even if they can't walk well or can't see or hear well... they still are so appreciative if you do something as simple as extract their blackheads.. They can't do it themselves, and it really makes them feel better and look better.

Many of you know of Pop's story. He's a wonderful, elderly patient of mine who has many blackheads/ comedones on his nose, that makes it feel very bumpy and misshapen to him. I see him regularly because of his history of skin cancer, but in the last few months, I have been extracting his blackheads and whiteheads to help him improve his appearance.. he cannot do it on his own as he has poor vision, and his blackheads are deep.. often I need to nick the surface of the skin to extract them, and this should be done in the dermatologist's office, under clean, sterile conditions. Many of you have fallen in love with "Pops", as he has shared with us the financial and emotional distress he has been going through, with the recent death of his beloved wife. And I am just so shocked and truly impressed at the power of the internet... that there are such wonderful humans around our earth, who may be strangers to this man, but want to thank him for sharing his blackheads with us, and want to show him love and support. If you would like to donate or send him a message, please visit his gofundme at gofundme.com/s2h23s Blackheads and whiteheads are open and closed comedones, in this case caused by his oily complection, rosacea and slight rhinophyma, and chronic cumulative sun exposure over his lifetime. All of this created dilated follicles, especially on the nose, that get plugged with keratin/skin cells, creating large whiteheads and blackheads. These are benign and don't require medical treatment. However, they are often cause for concern and embarrassment for patients, and they often seek treatment. In this case, I used local anesthesia to numb area of the skin, and needed to make a nick in the skin surface with a sharp 11 blade, before extracting his comedones with a Schaumberg comedone extractor. Since he is on blood thinners, he has some mild bleeding from nicked areas of the skin, but this should all resolve very well with no residual discomfort or scarring. This is his 4th visit, part 1 of 2, and he is looking better after every treatment! Thank you for watching!

Here's part 2 of Pop's blackhead extraction sessions. Although he still has many blackheads on his nose, the ones that are left are particularly difficult to extract. If they are open comedones (blackheads) they are pretty hardened and sticky. The closed comedones (whiteheads) are under the surface of the skin and tough to get to with just a simple extraction. Therefore, many superficial nicks in the surface of the skin had to be made to allow extraction of his comedones. Many of the areas were anesthetized first with a little local anesthetic, and all the superficial nicks will heal well without any residual scarring. He is such a wonderful person, and so appreciative of all that has been done to make his life more comfortable these days. I didn't tell you guys that he let me do some more blackhead extractions during our last visit a few weeks ago! Many of you know "Pops" and if you don't follow his story on my YouTube channel! He has many large blackheads and whiteheads, especially around his nose. Here, I try to extract as many as I can, without him getting too uncomfortable. He is darling, and he knows we appreciate him so! Today I noticed that he has a basal cell carcinoma a non life threatening type of skin cancer, which was biopsies during this visit, and will be removed completely in the near future. This has been a year of so many blackhead extractions and cyst excisions!! Many more than all my years as a dermatologist (over 10 years) combined! I didn't realize something that I may do or see on a regular basis as a dermatologist would be so interesting to so many people, and this fascinates me. For many of you, my videos are exciting and you describe them as "gross but oddly satisfying", and for others, you actually watch them to relax you and to help to sleep! Still others have dermatillomania, which is an obsession with and a compulsion to pick your own skin, and these videos help you to diminish this urge. Most importantly, this has hopefully been an educational experience for you, (which is what this all is about, after all). Do you know the difference between a blackhead and a whitehead? Between a comedone and a milium? A pilar cyst versus an epidermoid cyst? An abscess versus a lipoma? If you've watched most of my videos... you BETTER! So I thought to thank you and to also review what we all have learned this last year in dermatology, I would put together a collection of my 10 favorite blackhead extractions I did this year, 2015. Hopefully, these examples will show you how I properly and in a sterile and safe environment, extract blackheads, aka closed comedones. As you know, all of this is done by a board certified dermatologist (me), in the office setting. The intent is to improve and clear the complexion with little to no risk of scarring or other unwanted complications. Hopefully, these videos help you identify issues you may have with your own skin and understand what treatment options you have as well as help you to understand when it's time to see a dermatologist!
