Navigation

Tap the icon with three horizontal lines located at the top right of every screen, to navigate through the site. Tap the section heading to go to that page or the down arrow to view the additional sections. Tap the navigation icon again to go back to the previous screen.

Search

Type your search into the text box at the top of the navigation to search for stories or videos, and tap the “Go” button to display search results. Filter results by date or relevance.

Customise your weather settings

In the weather section, tap “Change Location” to set your preferred location by town name, suburb, postcode or your phone’s GPS.

Comments

You can comment on selected stories, if it shows an “Add your comment to this story” section at the bottom, or a yellow comments icon near the headline. Tap the “plus” symbol and fill in the fields to add your comment.

To view all comments for that story, tap the “Show all comments” button.

Landscape view

Rotate your phone lengthways to allow more stories to be viewed -images will not display.

Stories with grey text

Once you have read a story, it will change to a grey colour to make it easier to identify the stories you have read.

Sharing

Tap the share icon, near the author’s name, to share the story to your own social network site or to email the story, or by tapping on the social networks icons at the bottom of each story.

Save news.com.au to your bookmarks to make it easier to access.  While you have the site open, locate your bookmarks setting and select.

For Android, go to news.com.au in your browser, and tap the right hand side of your device to show the settings, then tap “Add shortcut to Home Screen”.

Desktop version

To view the desktop version of the site, tap the navigation icon (three horizontal lines at the top right of every screen) and tap the “Go to Desktop Version” link. Similarly, if you are on the desktop site and want to view the mobile version, go to the “mobile” link at the bottom of the page.

Supported devices

This site is optimised for iPhone 4 (and above) using iOS6 (and above), in Safari and Chrome. On Android, we support Android 4.0 (and above): on Samsung Galaxy S2 to Galaxy S4 on the default Android browser and Chrome; and on HTC One (and above) on the default Android browser. If you are using an older device some of the features may not be available.

Private Browsing or Incognito mode

Your browser stores information about the sites you visit, your search history and the data that you submit into forms. This information is stored in cookies. If you enable private browsing your browsing history and settings are not remembered when you return. For example if you set your location for weather, this information will not be saved the next time you visit.

Some videos not available

Some of our videos can only be viewed in Australia. Our video player checks people’s location by IP address. Sometimes different phone companies purchase foreign IP addresses and it takes a while for the IP address to be updated as an Australian address. Please contact us if you’re having this issue.

For Android users, switching off Data Saver settings in Chrome, then clearing your browsing data, may resolve the issue. Please note, switching off this feature may increase your data usage and you may incur extra charges from your data provider.
