Chinese'. I strongly disagreed. I said to him, '
Let's see. I am always Chinese, no matter if it's in the past, in the present or in the future'. At
that moment, I thought about the year
1997 when Hong Kong would be returned to China. At that moment, I decided to stay in Hong Kong and wait for the coming of the year of 1997."

"My friends told me (after Liu organised student protests in
Guangdong province following Tiananmen Square crackdown) to leave the country, but I didn't want to leave. It didn't matter if they would put me in jail or kill me. Some friends tried to persuade me to leave. I was very tired at the time, in poor health. They said to me that you can leave now and come back to China and do good things in the future."
