The Douglas DC-3 is a fixed-wing propeller-driven airliner. Its cruise speed (207 mph or 333 km/h) and range (1,500 mi or 2,400 km) revolutionized air transport in the 1930s and 1940s. Its lasting effect on the airline industry and World War II makes it one of the most significant transport aircraft ever made.
The DC-3 was a twin engine metal monoplane, developed as a larger, improved 14 bed sleeper version of the Douglas DC-2. It had many exceptional qualities compared to previous aircraft. It was fast, had a good range and could operate from short runways. It was also reliable, easy to maintain and carried passengers in greater comfort. Before the war it pioneered many air travel routes. It was able to cross the continental United States, making transcontinental flights and worldwide flights possible, and is considered to be the first airliner that could make money by carrying passengers alone.
Civil DC-3 production ended in 1942 with only 607 aircraft being produced. However, together with its military derivative, the C-47 Skytrain (designated the Dakota in RAF Service), and with Russian and Japanese built versions, over 16,000 were built. Following the Second World War, the airliner market was flooded with surplus C-47s and other transport aircraft and attempts to produce an upgraded super DC-3 were a failure.
Aer Lingus, /ˌɛər ˈlɪŋɡəs/ (an anglicisation of the Irish Aer Loingeas meaning "air fleet") describes itself as the "national airline" of Ireland. It is the second largest airline in Ireland. Aer Lingus is owned by IAG, the parent company of British Airways, Iberia and Vueling. It operates an all Airbus aircraft fleet serving Europe, North Africa, Turkey and North America. The airline's head office is on the grounds of Dublin Airport in Cloghran, County Dublin, Ireland.
Formed in 1936, Aer Lingus is a former member of the Oneworld airline alliance, which it left on 31 March 2007; however, after the takeover by the International Airlines Group it is expected that Aer Lingus will re-enter Oneworld sometime in 2016. The airline has codeshares with Oneworld, Star Alliance and SkyTeam members, as well as interline agreements with Etihad Airways, JetBlue Airways and United Airlines. Aer Lingus has a hybrid business model, operating a mixed fare service on its European and North African routes and full service, two-class flights on transatlantic routes.

I grew up living next door to the owners and operators of SALAIR, the airplane you see flying at the beginning of this video. This is a superb documentary on the history of the most popular propellor airplane in the world, the DC-3. (I had to delete the original and repost this as it was flagged by YouTube with a copyright violation that I was given the option to correct, which I did).
The Douglas DC-3 is a flying legend and the most successful airliner in aviation history. The legendary aircraft dominated both military and civil aviation since its introduction in 1935. The highly reliable and very robust DC-3 was used on all fronts during the Second World War. During the Berlin Blockade, the DC-3 won many children’s heart between blood, sweat and tears when candies were dropped from the airplane. The German children christened the candy-dropping aircraft Raisin Bomber. Nowadays the legendary aircrafts carries the nickname "Grand Old Lady“. The greatly restored DC-3 carries the original Swissair livery of the late 1930s. The dull roar of the Pratt & Whitney radial engines is tirelessly announcing the amazing success story of the Douglas DC-3. Die Douglas DC-3 ist eine f...
BBC documentary, covering the DC-3 history and their use in the mid 80's and contains some very nice Colombian stuff. I recorded this on VHS in mid 80's off the TV and transferred it to DVD when the tape started to deteriorate, then converted it to MP4 for upload to Youtube. There are 2 pieces of music in it, which are copyright, hence the advert at the beginning. I've had the music removed, which has got rid of the advert, but has left a couple of sound gaps of 30 seconds.
Listen to the engine sound of this beauty. This is a DC-3 / C-47A Dakota. It was used by Icelandair flying with passengers from 1946-1972. Flying domestic flights in Iceland and Greenland. From 1973-2006 it was used spraying fertilizers in the highlands of Iceland. In 2006 it was painted in modern Icelandair livery. This DC-3 is airworthy and owned by a DC-3 friends club in Iceland. In this video it made some nice lowpasses at this small airshow in Tungubakkar, Iceland in 2006.

The major military version of which more than 10,000 were produced was designated the C-47 Skytrain in the USA and the Dakota in the UK. Many DC-3s and converted C-47s are still in use around the world. The designation "DC" stands for "Douglas Commercial". The DC-3 was the culmination of a development effort that began after an inquiry from Transcontinental and Western Airlines (TWA) to Donald Douglas. TWA's rival in transcontinental air service, United Airlines, was starting service w...

Aer Lingus celebrates Irish aviation history as Douglas DC-3 takes to the skies at Dublin Airport. Aer Lingus welcomed a piece of Irish aviation history into its hangar at Dublin airport today as it received a Douglas DC-3 aircraft hailing from the 1940s and 50s and freshly painted in the Aer Lingus livery of that era. As is tradition with Aer Lingus aircraft to be named after Irish saints, this DC-3 has been named St Gall which was in fact the name of an Aer Lingus DC-3 aircraft from the 1950s and today’s DC-3 carries the same registration - EI-ACD – as its earlier counterpart. Aer Lingus took delivery of its first Douglas DC-3 in April 1940, making it the fifth aircraft to be operated by the airline and the first scheduled flight was a Dublin to Liverpool service on 7th May 1940. A tribute to those who have the similar experience! This clip could be recorded in early 2011, in Colombia. Pilots fly through storms over the jungle along one of the most perilous air routes in the world to deliver supplies. It is one of the most perilous air routes in the world. Colombian pilots fly through storms in decrepit planes over dense forests to deliver food and goods to villagers isolated from the rest of the world. Jumping off point is Villavicencio, a city in the foothills of the Andean Cordillera. The destination is any one of the number of native Indian villages scattered throughout the jungle, cut off from civilisation. The plane's arrival in the villages is a major event. It stops here only once or twice a month, its cargo comprising vegetables, beds, dogs, chicken, T...
The legendary Douglas Dc-3. This plane is an amazing piece of engineering. Even 70 years after they`ve been built there are still lots of Dc-3` s flying around, especially in Alaska, Canada and Colombia. These three Dc-3`s were part of the flying display of the Farnborough Air Show 2014. I have never seen a formation departure of Dc-3`s and that` s why I really enjoyed wathing this performance. Recorded December 31, 2012 Flight was from Orlando Executive Airport to Punta Gorda, Florida. We were going to a New Years Eve party near Punta Gorda so a relative arranged for us to fly on his friend's DC-3. Even though my interest is mainly in modern commercial airliners, I must admit this was one of the most beautiful airplanes I have ever seen. It is meticulously maintained inside and out. The pilots flew at only 4,500 feet so that we could get a nice view of the central Florida landscape. It was a great once-in-a-lifetime experience. Camera: My new Sony HDR CX760V
Follow me as I dive into the DC3, exploring all its little secrets and hidden compartments. I hope you will enjoy this spontaneous little video I put together. I apologise for the sound but I was not planning o doing this video but was invited into it and took the chance! More videos in the making about pilot medicals, Flaps and YOUR medical questions. I know you want it
You wanna hit it
But you can't have it
Oops, can't touch it
Maybe a kiss on these lips
Holding hands it aint nothing
Nasty is what you call me
We get close but you can't handle it
Cuz I'm not maybe what your looking
Cuz I'm not the average kind of girl
I might let you touch me
I might let you hold me
I might even let you kiss me
But you can not take my virginity
I might let you tease me
I might let you squeeze me
I might even let you kiss me
But you can not take my virginity
Can't imagine what it feels like
My friends say it's alright
But then they go and do it all night
But I prefer the merry life
Patience is what you gotta have
That's what it takes to be my man
I'm not like that bad if you like me
Keep it with you then maybe
I might let you touch me
I might let you hold me
I might even let you kiss me
But you can not take my virginity
I might let you tease me
I might let you squeeze me
I might even let you kiss me
But you can not take my virginity
Baby its not like I dont really like you
You just gotta know
That if your not willing to get with my loving
Than you've gotta go
Baby its not like I dont really like you
You just gotta know
That if your not willing to get with my loving
Than you've gotta go

Telling you he love you
And everything he gone do
Treat your body like a temple
The best thing ever made
Cuz once you let him hit
Watch how those feelings fade away
You gotta be the best at this game being played
Dont give it up know
Some things are better off saved
I might let you touch me
I might let you hold me
I might even let you kiss me
But you can not take my virginity
I might let you tease me
I might let you squeeze me
I might even let you kiss me
But you can not take my virginity
I might let you touch me
I might let you hold me
I might even let you kiss me
But you can not take my virginity
