"It is with profound sadness that I am announcing that I and Priyadarshan have decided to get separated after 24 years of marriage. I have filed for divorce today (Monday) in Chennai family court.Both our children and close friends are aware of this decision."

Priyadarshan Nair is an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter. In a career spanning over two decades, Priyadarshan has directed over 80 films in several Indian languages including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Though he began his career in Malayalam cinema in 1984, Priyadarshan has been mainly active in Hindi cinema for the past decade.

Best known for his comedy films, Priyadrshan has also tried his hand at action and thriller films from time to time. His collaborations with Mohanlal were popular in Malayalam cinema during the 1980s and 1990s, with films such as Poochakkoru Mookkuthi (1984), Boeing Boeing (1985), Thalavattam (1986), Vellanakalude Nadu (1988), Chithram (1988), Vandanam (1989), Kilukkam (1991), Abhimanyu (1991), Mithunam (1993), Thenmavin Kombath (1994), and Kala Pani (1996). Actors he has worked with over several films include Kuthiravattam Pappu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Nedumudi Venu, Sreenivasan, Sukumari, and Mukesh.

Priyadarshan was one of the first directors in India to introduce rich color grading, clear sound and quality dubbing through his early Malayalam films. Upon entering Bollywood, he has mostly adapted stories from popular comedy films from Malayalam cinema, some from his own work and some from others. These include Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Chup Chup Ke, Dhol, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Actors he has worked with multiple times in Hindi cinema include Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Akshaye Khanna, and Suniel Shetty.

Jeetu (Shahid Kapoor) is constantly getting himself and his father into trouble because of his inability to properly manage money. Plunging them both into debt, Jeetu breaks off his engagement with his fiance, Pooja (Sushma Reddy) and decides to commit suicide by throwing himself into the sea. Jeetu believes that by killing himself, he can do something right for once: his father can use the money from his life insurance to pay off his debts. Unfortunately, it does not go as planned and Jeetu is found tangled in some nets by a pair of fishermen, Gundya (Paresh Rawal) and Bandya (Rajpal Yadav). Gundya owes money to a Gujarati businessman, Prabhat Singh Chauhan (Om Puri). He reads a note found in Jeetu's pocket, which makes him think Jeetu is rich, rather than in debt. The two fishermen hatch a scheme in which they will offer Jeetu to Prabhat in exchange for the money Gundya owes. Jeetu does not want to reveal too much, and therefore pretends to be mute and deaf. A hilarious sequence of events follows as his pretense gets both him and the fishermen into comical situations. Soon, it is revealed that Prabhat's niece Shruti (Kareena Kapoor) is mute too, but not deaf. Her brother Mangal (Sunil Shetty) wants her to get married and everything seems okay when her marriage is arranged. However, the groom's family breaks the marriage, humiliating Shruti and angering Mangal. One night, when Jeetu gets drunk, he begins to sing, but is caught when Shruti and her cousin Meenakshi (Neha Dhupia) hear him (and consequently learn of his secret). They promise to keep his secret but in return he must do something for Shruti. A greedy bridegroom is interested in marrying Shruti only for her wealth; Jeetu must pretend to be her lover to break the marriage. Meenakshi finds out that Jeetu is in debt and she thinks he will do anything for money. Unfortunately, Jeetu is involved in a car crash with Prabhat who, at the time, was carrying a lot of money. Meenakshi tells the police about her suspicions and they beat Jeetu mercilessly. Her views about him change however when Prabhat announces that Jeetu was the one that saved him and took him to the hospital. In the meantime, Bandya has returned from Jeetu's village with a suitcase full of money. He tells Jeetu that Pooja is married, but Pooja believes she is Jeetu's widow, though the two never got married. At the same time, Shruti confesses her love for Jeetu. Mangal finds out about the romance and practically forces Jeetu to marry Shruti. Free of debt, he agrees to marry Shruti, having fallen in love with her too. But when his family learns of this, they intrude on the marriage, wanting him to return and marry Pooja instead. However, when Pooja learns that Shruti is mute, she has a change of heart and tells Jeetu to marry Shruti. Jeetu and Shruti get married and live happily. The story of a bunch of misfits whose misconception about each others backgrounds end up in a series of chaotic, yet comic outcomes. Aftab Shivdasani (Nandu) and Rimi Sen (Anjali) play two strangers who have to pretend that are a married couple in order to get a place to live. Paresh Rawal (Radheysham Tiwari) plays a rich, yet ground to earth businessman whose business is named after his wife (Shoma Anand) Anjali. Akshaye Khanna (Jeetu) plays a young man starting a new business in electronic ware. Things get complicated when Rimi Sen goes to Paresh Rawal's house in search of a job & meets Akshaye Khanna who falls in love with her thinking she is Paresh Rawal's daughter. Paresh Rawal's wife thinks that he is having an affair with Rimi Sen & while Paresh Rawal thinks his wife is having an affair with Akshaye Khanna due to Rimi Sen and her having the same name. Jeetu (Shahid Kapoor) is constantly getting himself and his father into trouble because of his inability to properly manage money. Plunging them both into debt, Jeetu breaks off his engagement with his fiance, Pooja (Sushma Reddy) and decides to commit suicide by throwing himself into the sea. Jeetu believes that by killing himself, he can do something right for once: his father can use the money from his life insurance to pay off his debts. Unfortunately, it does not go as planned and Jeetu is found tangled in some nets by a pair of fishermen, Gundya (Paresh Rawal) and Bandya (Rajpal Yadav). Gundya owes money to a Gujarati businessman, Prabhat Singh Chauhan (Om Puri). He reads a note found in Jeetu's pocket, which makes him think Jeetu is rich, rather than in debt. The two fishermen hatch a scheme in which they will offer Jeetu to Prabhat in exchange for the money Gundya owes. Jeetu does not want to reveal too much, and therefore pretends to be mute and deaf. A hilarious sequence of events follows as his pretense gets both him and the fishermen into comical situations. Soon, it is revealed that Prabhat's niece Shruti (Kareena Kapoor) is mute too, but not deaf. Her brother Mangal (Sunil Shetty) wants her to get married and everything seems okay when her marriage is arranged. However, the groom's family breaks the marriage, humiliating Shruti and angering Mangal. One night, when Jeetu gets drunk, he begins to sing, but is caught when Shruti and her cousin Meenakshi (Neha Dhupia) hear him (and consequently learn of his secret). They promise to keep his secret but in return he must do something for Shruti. A greedy bridegroom is interested in marrying Shruti only for her wealth; Jeetu must pretend to be her lover to break the marriage. Meenakshi finds out that Jeetu is in debt and she thinks he will do anything for money. Unfortunately, Jeetu is involved in a car crash with Prabhat who, at the time, was carrying a lot of money. Meenakshi tells the police about her suspicions and they beat Jeetu mercilessly. Her views about him change however when Prabhat announces that Jeetu was the one that saved him and took him to the hospital. In the meantime, Bandya has returned from Jeetu's village with a suitcase full of money. He tells Jeetu that Pooja is married, but Pooja believes she is Jeetu's widow, though the two never got married. At the same time, Shruti confesses her love for Jeetu. Mangal finds out about the romance and practically forces Jeetu to marry Shruti. Free of debt, he agrees to marry Shruti, having fallen in love with her too. But when his family learns of this, they intrude on the marriage, wanting him to return and marry Pooja instead. However, when Pooja learns that Shruti is mute, she has a change of heart and tells Jeetu to marry Shruti. Jeetu and Shruti get married and live happily. They promise to keep his secret but in return he must do something for Shruti. A greedy bridegroom is interested in marrying Shruti only for her wealth; Jeetu must pretend to be her lover to break the marriage. Meenakshi finds out that Jeetu is in debt and she thinks he will do anything for money. Unfortunately, Jeetu is involved in a car crash with Prabhat who, at the time, was carrying a lot of money. Meenakshi tells the police about her suspicions and they beat Jeetu mercilessly. Her views about him change however when Prabhat announces that Jeetu was the one that saved him and took him to the hospital. In the meantime, Bandya has returned from Jeetu's village with a suitcase full of money. He tells Jeetu that Pooja is married, but Pooja believes she is Jeetu's widow, though the two never got married. At the same time, Shruti confesses her love for Jeetu. Mangal finds out about the romance and practically forces Jeetu to marry Shruti. Free of debt, he agrees to marry Shruti, having fallen in love with her too. But when his family learns of this, they intrude on the marriage, wanting him to return and marry Pooja instead. However, when Pooja learns that Shruti is mute, she has a change of heart and tells Jeetu to marry Shruti. Jeetu and Shruti get married and live happily. Aftab Shivdasani (Nandu) and Rimi Sen (Anjali) play two strangers who have to pretend that are a married couple in order to get a place to live. Paresh Rawal (Radheysham Tiwari) plays a rich, yet ground to earth businessman whose business is named after his wife (Shoma Anand) Anjali. Akshaye Khanna (Jeetu) plays a young man starting a new business in electronic ware. Things get complicated when Rimi Sen goes to Paresh Rawal's house in search of a job & meets Akshaye Khanna who falls in love with her thinking she is Paresh Rawal's daughter. Paresh Rawal's wife thinks that he is having an affair with Rimi Sen & while Paresh Rawal thinks his wife is having an affair with Akshaye Khanna due to Rimi Sen and her having the same name. പ്രിയദർശന്റെ സംവിധാനത്തിൽ പി.കെ.ആർ. പിള്ള നിർമ്മിച്ച് 1989-ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ മലയാളചലച്ചിത്രമാണ് വന്ദനം. മോഹൻലാൽ നായകനായ ഈ ചിത്രത്തിൽ ഗിരിജ ഷെട്ടാർ ആയിരുന്നു നായിക. ഔസേപ്പച്ചൻ സംഗീതസംവിധാനം നിർവഹിച്ച ഈ ചിത്രത്തിലെ അഞ്ചു ഗാനങ്ങളും സൂപ്പർ ഹിറ്റുകളായിരുന്നു. ഈ സിനിമയുടെ ഭൂരിഭാഗം ഭാഗങ്ങളും ബാംഗ്ലൂരിൽ വച്ചാണ് ചിത്രീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്. കഥയുടെ ഏറെ ഭാഗവും സ്റ്റേക്ക് ഔട്ട് എന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ചിത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് എടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. പ്രിയദർശൻ പിന്നീട് ഈ ചിത്രം നിർണയം എന്ന പേരിൽ അമല, നാഗാർജുന എന്നിവരെ നായികാനായകന്മാരാക്കി തെലുങ്കിൽ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തു Vandanam is a 1989 Malayalam film directed by Priyadarshan. The film stars Mohanlal, Mukesh, Girija Shettar, Nedumudi Venu, M.G. Soman, Jagadish, Sukumari, Ganesh Kumar, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Cochin Haneefa. This was the follow-up film of Priyadarshan and producer P. K. R. Pillai after the commercially successful Chithram (1988). The story of the film is loosely based on the 1987 American film Stakeout.[1] Priyadarshan later remade it as the Telugu film Nirnayam (1991).

Jeetu (Shahid Kapoor) is constantly getting himself and his father into trouble because of his inability to properly manage money. Plunging them both into debt, Jeetu breaks off his engagement with his fiance, Pooja (Sushma Reddy) and decides to commit suicide by throwing himself into the sea. Jeetu believes that by killing himself, he can do something right for once: his father can use the money from his life insurance to pay off his debts. Unfortunately, it does not go as planned and Jeetu is found tangled in some nets by a pair of fishermen, Gundya (Paresh Rawal) and Bandya (Rajpal Yadav). Gundya owes money to a Gujarati businessman, Prabhat Singh Chauhan (Om Puri). He reads a note found in Jeetu's pocket, which makes him think Jeetu is rich, rather than in debt. The two fishermen hatch a scheme in which they will offer Jeetu to Prabhat in exchange for the money Gundya owes. Jeetu does not want to reveal too much, and therefore pretends to be mute and deaf. A hilarious sequence of events follows as his pretense gets both him and the fishermen into comical situations. Soon, it is revealed that Prabhat's niece Shruti (Kareena Kapoor) is mute too, but not deaf. Her brother Mangal (Sunil Shetty) wants her to get married and everything seems okay when her marriage is arranged. However, the groom's family breaks the marriage, humiliating Shruti and angering Mangal. One night, when Jeetu gets drunk, he begins to sing, but is caught when Shruti and her cousin Meenakshi (Neha Dhupia) hear him (and consequently learn of his secret). They promise to keep his secret but in return he must do something for Shruti. A greedy bridegroom is interested in marrying Shruti only for her wealth; Jeetu must pretend to be her lover to break the marriage. Meenakshi finds out that Jeetu is in debt and she thinks he will do anything for money. Unfortunately, Jeetu is involved in a car crash with Prabhat who, at the time, was carrying a lot of money. Meenakshi tells the police about her suspicions and they beat Jeetu mercilessly. Her views about him change however when Prabhat announces that Jeetu was the one that saved him and took him to the hospital. In the meantime, Bandya has returned from Jeetu's village with a suitcase full of money. He tells Jeetu that Pooja is married, but Pooja believes she is Jeetu's widow, though the two never got married. At the same time, Shruti confesses her love for Jeetu. Mangal finds out about the romance and practically forces Jeetu to marry Shruti. Free of debt, he agrees to marry Shruti, having fallen in love with her too. But when his family learns of this, they intrude on the marriage, wanting him to return and marry Pooja instead. However, when Pooja learns that Shruti is mute, she has a change of heart and tells Jeetu to marry Shruti. Jeetu and Shruti get married and live happily.
