Plot: 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' is a bitter-sweet, tender and heartfelt glance at a dying relationship. As wannabe rock-star Liam and down-to-earth Natalie complete the painful process of separating their CD collection, we see glimpses of what brought them together in the first place and...what is now tearing them apart. Through their shared love of music, and their different philosophical standpoints,we gradually chart the tragic/comic downfall of a once burning love whose flame may be about to extinguish, forever.

Quotes:
Mr. Ford: [trying to wake his daughter up with a soft voice] Angie, Angie, it's time to wake up. It's your last day in middle school. You know what your counselor said, you won't be able to finish junior high school if you miss one more half day. Little Angie.::Angie: [opens eyes] Get the *fuck* out of here!
Sylvia: This home that you think is home is really just the first one... it's like, we have this family, and we go off and we do stuff and eventually we start ourselves a new family, and then, our family will go off and start more families. And really it's just this whole chain reaction of like, creation, and then we try to classify it in stages so that we can find comfort in where we're at in that one particular moment in time but really theres no such thing as time and really we're all just walking talking patterns.
Angie: Excuse me, can you knock?::Julia Ford: Excuse me, can you suck my ass?
Hanky: Dude, remember that time when I was wasted and we found that secret island?::Pete: ...That never happened.
Hanky: Smoke, drink... don't think!

Plot: Mod is a slow-witted thug who's trying to turn his life around. He recites the self-help platitudes plastered around his apartment on post-it notes, listens to classical music, and studies for his GED. He takes one more debt collection job, but when the debtor doesn't have all the money, he reluctantly accepts a seemingly mute abused woman as temporary payment. Although he's not happy about having her around, he treats her kindly. When he begins to realize all the different ways that she has been abused and neglected, he starts to care more for her welfare than for the rest of the money.
