Estrongo Nachama,
Vigorous to the last, eyes always glimmering, his voice scarcely affected by age, Mr. Nachama exuded the passion for life of a man who had seen the worst horrors and come through.
He was an Auschwitz survivor, spared because his voice pleased the SS guards, who particularly enjoyed his rendering of ''O Sole Mio.''
His family, all sent to Auschwitz after the Nazis took control of northern Greece, where Mr. Nachama was born, was less fortunate. His parents, a sister and many relatives were all killed by the Nazis at the camp.
While forever marked by this loss, Mr. Nachama was an inveterate optimist of seemingly boundless energy.
On his 80th birthday, he declared, ''I will sing for as long as God allows me'' -- and he did, coaching bar mitzvah students until the day before his death.
''He was one of the absolutely critical people in terms of the rebuilding of the Jewish community in Berlin,'' said Tom Freudenheim, the deputy director of the city's Jewish museum. ''Before the wall fell, he would cross to the East with a special pass to conduct services there. In his day, his voice was famous well beyond this city.''
In 1947, when Mr. Nachama became cantor, the Jews of Berlin had almost all departed or died. Today, with the Jewish population swollen by an influx of Jews from Russia and other Central and Eastern European countries, about 12,000 people are registered members of the Jewish community and several thousand more are known to live here.
Estrongo Nachama was born in Salonika, Greece, the son of a prosperous grain merchant. He was to have taken over the family business, but the Nazis sent his entire family to Auschwitz in 1943.
A splendid tenor, Mr. Nachama earned the nickname ''the singer of Auschwitz.'' His voice saved his life. When the camp was closed in 1945, Mr. Nachama was pressed into a ''death march'' back to Germany. Sick with typhoid, he was ultimately freed by Soviet troops near Berlin in 1945.
On his recovery, he planned to take a train back to Greece. But he grew close to a Christian family that had taken him in and quickly became active in what was left of the Jewish community. In the end, he never left.
His voice became well known in the city and was broadcast on Friday nights by the radio service in the American sector of Berlin. He worked tirelessly for an improved understanding between Jews and Christians and became one of the first prominent German Jews to attend church congresses.
When, last September, Prime Minister Ehud Barak of Israel became the first foreign leader to visit Germany after the government moved back to Berlin, Mr. Nachama was at his side during a service at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp near the capital. His voice rising over the bleak scene of horror was one of tremulous beauty.
Mr. Nachama is survived by his wife, Lily, a son, Andreas, who is the leader of the city's Jewish community, and two grandchildren.

That's totally not true, but the rise of "tragedy porn" and exploitation of poor families on reality TV is still cause for concern. Fortunate
"Fortunate" is a neo soul song from the 1999 motion picture Life and was released on the film's soundtrack. The song was written, composed, produced and arranged by R. Kelly and recorded by Maxwell. "Fortunate" was awarded Best R&B Single of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards and Best R&B/Soul Single (Male) at Soul Train Awards. Maxwell was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Male Vocalist and also nominated for a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Song of the Year.
The song, Maxwell's biggest hit to date, spent eight weeks at number one on the US R&B chart and peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. It is his first number-one R&B hit, eventually followed by "Pretty Wings" in 2009.
According to R. Kelly, Maxwell didn't want to sing "Fortunate". Instead, he wanted to sing the song "Life" - which Kelly gave to K-Ci & JoJo. Kelly rejected Maxwell's idea because he felt that neo-soul singer wouldn't have been believable singing a song from the perspective of a prison inmate.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is an American reality television series on TLC, featuring the family of child beauty pageant contestant Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson. The show premiered on August 8, 2012. Thompson and her family originally rose to fame on TLC's reality series Toddlers & Tiaras. The show mainly revolves around Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson and "Mama" June Shannon and their family's adventures in the southern town of McIntyre, Georgia.
Cast and premise
In addition to Alana, who was six years old when the first season was filmed, the show features her stay-at-home mother, June "Mama June" Shannon; her father, Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson, a chalk miner; and her three sisters: Lauryn "Pumpkin" Shannon, Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon, and Anna "Chickadee" Shannon. Anna Shannon gave birth to a daughter, Kaitlyn Shannon, in the first season finale. The baby has since been repatriated to Child Protective Services. The first season of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo aired from August 8 to October 26, 2012, and was followed by four specials airing in early 2013.

''He was one of the absolutely critical people in terms of the rebuilding of the Jewish community in Berlin,'' said Tom Freudenheim, the deputy director of the city's Jewish museum. ''Before the wall fell, he would cross to the East with a special pass to conduct services there. In his day, his voice was famous well beyond this city.'' In 1947, when Mr. Nachama became cantor, the Jews of Berlin had almost all departed or died. Today, with the Jewish population swollen by an influx of Jews from Russia and other Central and Eastern European countries, about 12,000 people are registered members of the Jewish community and several thousand more are known to live here. Vigorous to the last, eyes always glimmering, his voice scarcely affected by age, Mr. Nachama exuded the passion for life of a man who had seen the worst horrors and come through.
He was an Auschwitz survivor, spared because his voice pleased the SS guards, who particularly enjoyed his rendering of ''O Sole Mio.''
His family, all sent to Auschwitz after the Nazis took control of northern Greece, where Mr. Nachama was born, was less fortunate. His parents, a sister and many relatives were all killed by the Nazis at the camp.
While forever marked by this loss, Mr. Nachama was an inveterate optimist of seemingly boundless energy.
On his 80th birthday, he declared, ''I will sing for as long as God allows me'' -- and he did, coaching bar mitzvah students until the day before his death.
''He was one of the absolutely critical people in terms of the rebuilding of the Jewish community in Berlin,'' said Tom Freudenheim, the deputy director of the city's Jewish museum. ''Before the wall fell, he would cross to the East with a special pass to conduct services there. In his day, his voice was famous well beyond this city.''
In 1947, when Mr. Nachama became cantor, the Jews of Berlin had almost all departed or died. Today, with the Jewish population swollen by an influx of Jews from Russia and other Central and Eastern European countries, about 12,000 people are registered members of the Jewish community and several thousand more are known to live here.
Estrongo Nachama was born in Salonika, Greece, the son of a prosperous grain merchant. He was to have taken over the family business, but the Nazis sent his entire family to Auschwitz in 1943.
A splendid tenor, Mr. Nachama earned the nickname ''the singer of Auschwitz.'' His voice saved his life. When the camp was closed in 1945, Mr. Nachama was pressed into a ''death march'' back to Germany. Sick with typhoid, he was ultimately freed by Soviet troops near Berlin in 1945.
On his recovery, he planned to take a train back to Greece. But he grew close to a Christian family that had taken him in and quickly became active in what was left of the Jewish community. In the end, he never left.
His voice became well known in the city and was broadcast on Friday nights by the radio service in the American sector of Berlin. He worked tirelessly for an improved understanding between Jews and Christians and became one of the first prominent German Jews to attend church congresses.
When, last September, Prime Minister Ehud Barak of Israel became the first foreign leader to visit Germany after the government moved back to Berlin, Mr. Nachama was at his side during a service at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp near the capital. We then explore how we can commit ourselves to deepening our truth telling, and in so doing, creating a climate of integrity and trust that can lead to a more compassionate world.

Today, with the Jewish population swollen by an influx of Jews from Russia and other Central and Eastern European countries, about 12,000 people are registered members of the Jewish community and several thousand more are known to live here.

The grounds of happiness, loving relationships and a just and flourishing society is honesty. And yet our current times are characterized by a plethora of deception - both societally, and often in more subtle ways, in our personal lives. This talk examines the deep conditioning we have to deceive others, and to avoid facing and acknowledging our own vulnerability. We then explore how we can commit ourselves to deepening our truth telling, and in so doing, creating a climate of integrity and trust that can lead to a more compassionate world.

Vigorous to the last, eyes always glimmering, his voice scarcely affected by age, Mr. Nachama exuded the passion for life of a man who had seen the worst horrors and come through.
He was an Auschwitz survivor, spared because his voice pleased the SS guards, who particularly enjoyed his rendering of ''O Sole Mio.''
His family, all sent to Auschwitz after the Nazis took control of northern Greece, where Mr. Nachama was born, was less fortunate. His parents, a sister and many relatives were all killed by the Nazis at the camp.
While forever marked by this loss, Mr. Nachama was an inveterate optimist of seemingly boundless energy.
On his 80th birthday, he declared, ''I will sing for as long as God allows me'' -- and he did, coaching bar mitzvah students until the day before his death.
''He was one of the absolutely critical people in terms of the rebuilding of the Jewish community in Berlin,'' said Tom Freudenheim, the deputy director of the city's Jewish museum. ''Before the wall fell, he would cross to the East with a special pass to conduct services there. In his day, his voice was famous well beyond this city.''
In 1947, when Mr. Nachama became cantor, the Jews of Berlin had almost all departed or died. Today, with the Jewish population swollen by an influx of Jews from Russia and other Central and Eastern European countries, about 12,000 people are registered members of the Jewish community and several thousand more are known to live here.
Estrongo Nachama was born in Salonika, Greece, the son of a prosperous grain merchant. He was to have taken over the family business, but the Nazis sent his entire family to Auschwitz in 1943.
A splendid tenor, Mr. Nachama earned the nickname ''the singer of Auschwitz.'' His voice saved his life. When the camp was closed in 1945, Mr. Nachama was pressed into a ''death march'' back to Germany. Sick with typhoid, he was ultimately freed by Soviet troops near Berlin in 1945.
On his recovery, he planned to take a train back to Greece. But he grew close to a Christian family that had taken him in and quickly became active in what was left of the Jewish community. In the end, he never left.
His voice became well known in the city and was broadcast on Friday nights by the radio service in the American sector of Berlin. He worked tirelessly for an improved understanding between Jews and Christians and became one of the first prominent German Jews to attend church congresses.
When, last September, Prime Minister Ehud Barak of Israel became the first foreign leader to visit Germany after the government moved back to Berlin, Mr. Nachama was at his side during a service at the Sachsenhausen concentration camp near the capital. His voice rising over the bleak scene of horror was one of tremulous beauty.
Mr. Nachama is survived by his wife, Lily, a son, Andreas, who is the leader of the city's Jewish community, and two grandchildren.

With her husband’s help, extreme sports enthusiast Carolina Muñoz Marin has fought her way to the top of women’s amateur kickboxing in Costa Rica, challenging the traditional stereotypes of a Mormon woman. In between family time and training for competitions, Carolina and her husband run a charity to help those in Costa Rica who are less fortunate.

Jermaine Sullivan works full-time as an academic counselor to 200 students in order to support his wife and three kids. He also volunteers full-time as a Bishop of a Mormon church in Atlanta, Georgia. He leads his diverse congregation with youthful exuberance while shattering stereotypes of what it means to be a Mormon Bishop.

Dawn Armstrong, a struggling single mother, had hit rock bottom and lost all hope. Then she met some Mormon missionaries who helped her and her son get back on their feet and start a new life. Her son is now older and ready to fulfill his two-year voluntary missionary work. As she helps him prepare to leave home for the first time ever, she also prepares to say goodbye.

The United Nations World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Sunday it had not recorded any case of polio disease in Somalia in the last three years, declaring the country polio free.
