I decided to make this video in attempt to clear these confused thoughts in my head after hearing such terrible news today about the death of Dave mirra. Dave has been my favorite rider since the beginning and I honestly and truly believe he is the greatest BMX rider of all time. I hate this situation and can't help but think about the hell that his family is feeling right now. I hope there can be some sense made of this because right now I'm just so damn confused.

BMX bike legend Dave Mirra -- who once had the record for the most X Games medals has died of an apparent suicide has learned.
Cops say the 41 year old's body was found in his truck in Greenville, North Carolina Thursday with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
We're told he had been in the area visiting with friends.
Mirra leaves a wife and two kids.
Officials tell cops are investigating the death.
Earlier Thursday, a photo of Mirra and his wife together appeared on Dave's Instagram account with the caption, "My Rock! Thank god."

David Michael "Dave" Mirra (April 4, 1974 – February 4, 2016) was an American extreme sports athlete, competing in both BMX bicycle racing and rallycross racing. Mirra held the record for most X Games medals until being passed by Bob Burnquist in 2013, and medalled in every X Games from when they started in 1995 up to 2009. As a BMX rider, he was known primarily as a vert ramp and park rider. He has also competed in Subaru Rally Team USA as a car driver. He rode and was sponsored by Haro Bikes from the mid-1990s until starting his own bike company. Mirra was a member of the team which won the 2014 Race Across America Four-Person Male (Under 50) category.

Dave Mirra has suddenly been taken from us, who could've ever seen this coming? Words can't describe my inner feelings right now, but it seems eerie, and yet ultimately comforting knowing that I had the opportunity to meet Dave at this past year's NORA Cup awards ceremony. Dave was set as our presenter for the ramp category that night (he'd award Dennis Enarson later that night with Ramp Rider of the Year), and while Dave was timid on stage, he was clearly intrigued by the riding footage being projected on the giant screen. The nominee reels are always a mash of the very best riding that year from people like Dennis Enarson and Kriss Kyle, and I think Dave might've really had the chance to see the mark he left, and where the torch has now been carried... That moment is something I'll never forget. Dave Mirra is a legend, an icon, and a true inspiration who shaped our world and left his mark, but you all know that. Here's a look back on the reel we ran that night before he took the stage as the presenter for Ramp Rider of the Year. RIP Dave.

David Michael "Dave" Mirra (born April 4, 1974 in Chittenango, New York) is an American BMX athlete, Subaru Rally Team USA driver and business owner. Mirra holds the record for most X-Games medals, standing (and gold medals) and has medaled in every X Games since they started in 1995. His current medal count as of July 31, 2009 in the X Games is 24. In 2008, he placed second in BMX Big Air and third in Rally Car Racing at the X Games. He is known primarily as a vert ramp and park rider. He has ridden and has been sponsored by Haro Bikes since the mid '90s before starting his own bike company. In 2004, Mirra guest starred on an episode of George Lopez (TV series).
Dave Mirra graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona).
Greenville, North Carolina is more commonly known as "Protown" in the BMX community. This is due to the large amount of contest-riding BMX professionals living there.[citation needed] In the 1990s, Mirra's brother, Tim Mirra, moved to Greenville where there was virtually no BMX scene.[citation needed] Mirra was looking to get out of New York, so he decided to move down to Greenville. Not long after, fellow professional BMX rider Ryan Nyquist moved in with him. Mirra and Nyquist became quick friends and would build and ride ramps together. Greenville is now home to over twenty professional BMX riders.[citation needed]

Anthony Frank "Tony" Hawk (born May 12, 1968), nicknamed "The Birdman" is an American professional skateboarder and actor. Hawk gained significant fame for completing the first 900 as well as his licensed video game titles distributed by Activision. He is widely considered one of the most successful and influential pioneers of modern vertical skateboarding.
Raised in San Diego, California, Hawk was described as being "hyperactive" as a child. His parents supported his skateboarding because it served as an outlet for his excessive energy, and as Hawk's skills developed, he became a professional skateboarder at age fourteen. In 1999, he became the first skater to land a 900. In 2002, he created the Boom Boom HuckJam, an extreme sports exhibition and tour which launched in Las Vegas.
Throughout his career, Hawk has made numerous appearances in films and other media, as well as his own series of video games. He has also been involved in various philanthropic activities including his own Tony Hawk Foundation which helps build skateparks in underprivileged areas, and also including collaborations with other athletes in the charity Athletes for Hope.

Dave has been my favorite rider since the beginning and I honestly and truly believe he is the greatest BMX rider of all time. I hate this situation and can't help but think about the hell that his family is feeling right now. I hope there can be some sense made of this because right now I'm just so damn confused.

And on his second run Mirra attempted an unbelievable no-handed 360 back flip, a new trick for him.

Even if you’ve never ridden BMX or don’t know much about it, there’s a good chance you’ve still heard Dave’s name before. When it comes to BMX riders, he’s the closest thing there is to a “household name”.
The list of Dave’s accolades could go on for days, but here’s a small snippet of what’s he’s accomplished in his 41 years…
- He has won 14 X Games gold medals.
- He’s competed in both BMX and rally car racing at X Games.
- He was the first BMX rider to ever do a double backflip. (200.)
- He has won the Toyota Grand Prix celebrity race. (2007)
- He has had multiple books written about him.
- He has hosted TV shows like MTV’s Real World Road Rules Challenge.
- He has had video games named and designed after him on various gaming platforms.
- He trained for competed in an EllisMania boxing match against motocross rider Brian Deegan.
- He co-founded a BMX bike company.
- He recently made the transition from BMX to endurance sports and has raced in triathlons and Ironmans.
- He and a team of three others won a RAAM (Race Across America) where they pedaled more than 3,000 miles from California to Maryland in just under five and a half days.
…and as the list goes on it doesn’t look like Dave is slowing down any time soon. He is a true elite athlete and a fierce competitor, but he is also a savvy investor, and on top of that he’s a great guy, a husband, and a father of two.
In this episode I had so much to ask this childhood hero of mine that I opted to skip the Chime In segment and just keep the interview rolling. I didn’t want to waste any time, and I wanted to get as much out of this conversation as possible.
The interview is focused on two main topics—athletics and finance. I got to ask Dave about how he currently trains, eats, and recovers while focusing on triathlons, and I picked his brain about how he is wired for success when it comes to competition, whether that be BMX, endurance sports, racing cars, boxing, or anything else he sets his mind to.
As the highest paid BMX rider in the history of the sport, Dave was able to shed some light on the financial success he’s experienced and gave some great insight in to how he’s learned to save and manage his money and what he has invested in over the years. He even threw out some mind-blowing figures about some of his largest endorsements.
