ISIS vs Saudi Arabia: Saudis building massive fence on Iraq border to keep out Islamic State

Saudi Arabia is building a 600-mile (1,000-km) wall along its border with Iraq amid growing fears of attacks by ISIS militants.
Over the past three years, the ISIS has seized territory on both sides of the Iraq-Syria border and has proclaimed a global caliphate with the ultimate goal of capturing Saudi Arabia, home of Islam’s two holiest cities, Mecca and Medina.
On January 5 ISIS militants attacked a Saudi border post near Judayyidat Ararm and killed two Saudi guards and an army commander, an incident that highlighted the instability across Saudi Arabia’s border with Iraq.
The first phase of the 1,000-km border project started in September. The wall will ultimately stretch from the northwestern town of Turaif near the Saudi-Jordanian border to the northeastern town of Hafar al-Batin near Kuwait.
The wall itself will include a steep sand bank that prevents vehicles from driving too close to the fence, several layers of razor-wire fences, day and night security cameras, thermal imaging systems, underground movement sensors and 40 watchtowers fitted with long-range radars.
Saudi Arabia has also deployed 30,000 more troops to the border, along with more than 240 rapid response vehicles and surveillance reconnaissance vehicles.
Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iraq remain strained after Saudi Arabia blamed Iraq’s previous prime minister Nuri al-Maliki for marginalizing Iraq’s Sunni minority and creating the conditions that allowed for ISIS to gain traction in Iraq.
Saudi Arabia is also building a 1,100-mile (1,800 km) fence along its porous border with Yemen, which is fighting its own insurgency against Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

The name Riyadh, in fact, comes from the Arabic for gardens (rowdah), and lies atop an area where several underground riverbeds co

The Republic Of Yemen: there is almost no other country on Earth that possesses as many secrets and ancient legends as the Arabia Felix and the Bab Al Yemen, the gateway to the Yemen, is the entrance to the historic district of Sanaa, the Yemen’s capital city that it is believed to date back to the third century A.D. Women are rarely to be seen in Yemen’s marketplaces and, when they are, they are hidden from male glances by a protective veil. Islam still plays an important role in the daily cultural life of the people, including the traditional market places that are almost exclusively a male domain. The Republic Of Yemen covers a large part of the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula and contains several fascinating historical sites. East of Sanaa on the ancient Frankincense route, is the town of Marib that was once the residence of the legendary Queen Of Saba and in the extreme north is the town of Sadah, a region known for its powerful tribes. In the centre of the Djebel Harraz is the picturesque mountain village of Manakhah. Due to its location it was once a strategic point on the ancient trading route between the sea and the highlands. The breathtaking architecture of its buildings still testifies to the former prosperity of a village that today is well known for its popular market. Al Hudaydah was once the most important Turkish harbour on the Red Sea. The city was a commercial rival of the British occupied city of Aden to the south which, during colonial times, was of great importance in securing a sea route to India. In addition to the recent modernisation of the harbour the fishing industry still plays an important role and the fertile coastal waters of the Red Sea still ensure a good catch. To the south of Al Hudaydah is the legendary old harbour of Al Mokha, the former centre of the country’s coffee trade from which the world renowned Mocha coffee derived its name. Despite their present poverty the people here are a proud race and the ancient name of the Yemen, Arabia Felix, or “Arabia The Content”, is still a thing of the present.

wn.com/Arabia Felix Travel Video Guide

Come to Dubai, the ancient City of Gold, for your next vacation.
Modernity and antiquity collide in this vibrant city. Shop at the same spice market locals have been visiting for generations, then visit the stores in the Gold Souk, a jewelry-centered traditional marketplace. For a more modern shopping experience, go to the Dubai Mall, home to over 1200 stores, an underwater zoo, and KidZania®, a “city” where children can roleplay various careers.
To soak up some of the legendary Dubai sunshine, simply step outside. Take in the view of the city from the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Continue your Dubai tour by wandering through the exotic buildings and resorts, or visit some of the public beaches. If you’d like to try something a little different and don’t mind paying a small fee, you can also attend local hotel beaches even if you aren’t staying there.
You can’t finish your Dubai sightseeing without a trip into the desert itself. Ride a camel, go sandboarding, or just stand out on the dunes and marvel at the beauty of it all.

Quantum Method Realization Course
All of us would like to become Superman, or Insan-E-Kamel. We would like to transform suffering into joy, disease into health, and scarcity into prosperity.
But very few of us know the natural law for creating spontaneous torrents of joy or creating a truly prosperous life.
We want to be one with God, Allah, the Creator, or the Universal Life Force and surrender to Him. We want to pray, worship, or ibadat with devotion but we cannot.
Yet throughout history, there have been prophets, rishis, sufis, monks and holy-men who were indeed supermen. They found the secret to ending suffering and creating lasting joy. With them, those suffering found relief, those lacking found prosperity, and those diseased found health. Often, pain evaporated with a single touch of their hands.
The superhuman-like power of rishis and bujuhurgs was attained through a long strenuous process of spiritual pursuit. By surrendering to this process, they transformed every prayer into a union with God, and felt God deep within their own existence.
You too can progress on this path. Like them, you can attain the power to heal, have insights and extrasensory powers. Your prayer can become a union with God, and you can feel the presence of God within your existence. And you do not need to leave your family and job or live in seclusion to do this. Some regular practices or amal will help you progress along this path even while you continue to function fully in the material world.
The Quantum Method Realization Course: (also known as the Masters or Higher Course) will open the doors to this immense possibility.
Special Dimensions of Realization
Preparation for Participating in the Realization Course
• Participating in Quantum Method Course Rejuvenation at least twice.
• Completing three series of Quantaions. Three days of Quantaion in Lama will be considered equal to 2 series.
• Completing the Quantum Healing & Psyche Course. Prothomaion Course and Quantum Student Course (if you are a student).
• Practicing Quantum Yoga on a regular basis. This exercise prepares the body and mind for spiritual pursuit.
• Participating in the Quantum Healing Program.
• Participating in the Sadakion (weekly group meditation) in the centres, branches and cells, and making sincere efforts to attend workshops and other graduate programs including Alokaion (Self Empowerment Program).
• Participating in Progga Jalali.
• Participating in the Monthly Graduate Program.
• Meditating twice everyday on a regular basis.
• Donating to Quantum Charity Bank.
If you have completed the required preparations, you can apply for in the Realization Course by filling out the required form and submitting it to the centre, branch, or cell nearest to you. Participants are selected one month prior to the course. You will be informed about the next steps once you are selected.

Don't let the descent fool you. Flying across the Najd desert plateau, one would be forgiven for wondering, why here? The climate is dry, and dust storms can kick up a blinding fit. Closer in, however, and you'll soon see date palms and shrubs spotting the landscape. The name Riyadh, in fact, comes from the Arabic for gardens (rowdah), and lies atop an area where several underground riverbeds converge, resulting in a natural oasis that has long drawn traders and nomads alike. In much the same vein, expat life in Riyadh can sometimes be judged too soon and too bluntly. Although it's true that most foreigners are grounded in compound existence, this is still a city of over five million inhabitants, with all the complexity that that implies. From gold markets to desert camping to luxury like you've never seen it, Riyadh's got plenty to discover. Let Move One's video be your first step in your journey to ar-Riyadh.

The Saudis complained the United States was appeasing Iran, an untrustworthy enemy, at the expense of The Saudis, who have been a loyal American ally. Declining oil prices and production have sent Gulf stocks plummeting. The Saudis biggest fears is that Iran, flush with new revenues, will be emboldened to intensify its activities across an already violent and unstable Middle East.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with powerful army chief General Raheel Sharif today left for Riyadh on the first leg of a regional trip to defuse tensions between Saudi Arabia and arch rival Iran.
Sharif's visit comes at a time when relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran have been fraught since Riyadh executed a prominent Shia cleric earlier this month following which Iranian protesters attacked the Saudi embassy in Tehran and its consulate prompting the Saudis to sever ties.
The Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement that Sharif is leading a high-level delegation during the trip to exchange views on regional and international issues.
Officials said that he is accompanied by army chief General Raheel Sharif, advisor on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz, national security adviser Nasir Janjua, and special assistant on foreign affairs Tariq Fatemi among others.

UK military experts are “in control rooms” of the Saudi coalition bombing Houthi rebels in Yemen, a campaign that has killed thousands of people including civilians, British media has learnt. The MoD insists that Brits are not choosing airstrike targets.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir has confirmed that British officers are present in operational rooms of Saudi-led coalition and are training the anti-Houthi forces to conduct air warfare in Yemen, The Telegraph reports.
“We asked a number of allied countries to come and be part of the control center,” Adel al-Jubeir told journalists. “I know they are aware of the target lists.”

Nawaz Sharif Likely To Visit Iran, Saudi Arabia To Ease Tensions
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to undertake an important visit to Iran and Saudi Arabia on Monday to reduce tensions between the two rival Muslim nations, his office said today.
The decision was taken after behind-the-scene contacts by Pakistan with both countries to lower the temperature in the region after Saudi Arabia executed a prominent Shia cleric earlier this month following which Iranian protesters attacked the Saudi embassy in Tehran and its consulate prompting Riyadh to sever relations.
Iran then snapped all commercial ties with Saudi Arabia and stopped pilgrims from travelling to Mecca.
An official of the Prime Minister's House said Mr Sharif will first travel to Iran and meet President Hassan Rouhani and later the same day he will visit Saudi Arabia for a meeting with King Salman bin Abdul Aziz.
"He will try to convince the two leaders that their tension was adding to the problems faced by the Muslim world," he said.
Mr Sharif would be accompanied by Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and special assistant on foreign affairs Tariq Fatemi. He is expected to return home on Tuesday.
Pakistan has close ties with Sunni-majority Saudi Arabia but last year resisted calls by the Saudis to join a war in Yemen against the Houthi rebels allegedly supported by Shia-dominated Iran.
Pakistan is also not willing to contribute troops for the 34-nation Saudi alliance to fight terrorism.

By Sam Kiley, Foreign Affairs Editor
British military experts have joined Saudi Arabia's military campaign against rebels in Yemen, provoking renewed calls from human rights groups for a total review of British policy towards the fundamentalist kingdom.
At least 10,000 Yemenis have died in the civil war that is being fought as a proxy conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Now it appears that Britain, already a massive source of weapons and bombs to the Saudi Kingdom, is helping in more direct ways.
Sky sources have confirmed that six experts are working with Saudi targeteers who select locations for attack.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) in London insists they are not part of any direct operations but are training the Saudis to comply with the international rules of war.

But Human Rights Watch has produced detailed investigations that it says reveal some 30 examples of Saudi coalition breach of international rules of war.
The report, published in December, calls for investigations into the incidents which may constitute war crimes, according to David Mepham, director of Human Rights Watch UK.

He said: "At a time when the Saudis and other members of the Gulf coalition are committing multiple violations of the laws of war in Yemen - we've documented that.
"Human Rights Watch has put out numerous reports about what the Saudis are up to in Yemen - that the British are working hand in glove with the Saudis, helping them, enhancing their capacity to prosecute this war that has led to the death of so many civilians. I think it's deeply regrettable and unacceptable."
Tory MP and former secretary of state for international development Andrew Mitchell has been critical of the Government’s policy of supplying aid to the victims of the Yemeni war and arms to Saudi Arabia while it’s fighting there.
He said he felt British training to avoid civilian casualties would be positive - but added a caution.
"There is no hiding the fact that this is an uncomfortable position for the British Government because one limb of it is desperately trying to save lives, ensure that fuel gets in, ensure that food and medicines get in, and the other arm of government is engaged in prosecuting a ferocious war which is inevitably doing great damage to innocent civilians," said Mr Mitchell.
Britain has agreed contracts worth some £5.6bn in arms exports over the last five years according to arms sales monitoring agencies. It also has a long standing commitment to training Saudi forces.
But with the additional personnel attached to the Yemen campaign it risks being dragged into a regional sectarian war which is pitting Iranian and Saudi proxies against each other in Syria and the Yemen.
Diane Abbott, Shadow International Development Secretary, told Sky News: "It is one thing to negotiate with people, it is another thing to be complacent in human rights offences.
"How sure are you that that is going on, because what Sam Kiley has revealed in his report is that there are six British military helping the Saudis with their targeting, but specifically helping them to make sure they comply with international agreements.
"We need to know more about the export licences, Saudi is a huge purchaser of British arms."
Ministers refused to comment on the Sky News revelations.
A MoD statement said: "UK military personnel are not directly involved in Coalition operations, but are supporting Saudi forces through pre-existing arrangements and additional liaison officers in Saudi headquarters.
"We operate one of the most rigorous and transparent arms export control regimes in the world with each licence application assessed on a case by case basis, taking account of all relevant information, to ensure compliance with our legal obligations.
"No licence is issued if it does not meet these requirements."

Saudi Arabia continues to bomb Yemen’s infrastructure and population centers, bringing more death and destruction to the country.
In the latest attacks, warplanes targeted a district in the northern Amran province, killing four civilians. The unrelenting air campaign comes amid continued protests against the Saudi regime in the capital Sana’a. People took to the streets to condemn the Saudi aggression, including the use of cluster bombs. The U-N and human rights organizations said the use of the banned munitions by the Saudi regime amounts to war crimes and have called for a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, Yemen’s Ansarullah fighters and allied army units have stepped up retaliatory attacks in response to the Saudi aggression. In Ta’izz, up to ten pro-Saudi militants were killed.

The House of Saud (Arabic: آل سعود Āl Saʻūd) is the ruling royal family of Saudi Arabia. The family has thousands of members. It is composed of the descendants of Muhammad bin Saud and his brothers, though the ruling faction of the family is primarily led by the descendants of Abdulaziz Ibn Saud.
The most influential member of the Royal family is the King of Saudi Arabia, currently King Salman. The throne was designed to pass from one son of the first king, Ibn Saud, to another. His deputy Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is also from the ruling House of Saud, and the king-appointed cabinet includes more members of the royal family. While the monarchy is hereditary now, future Saudi kings will be chosen by a committee of Saudi princes, in line with a 2006 Royal Decree.[1]
The family is estimated to be composed of 15,000 members, but the majority of the power and wealth is possessed by a group of only about 2,000.[2][3]
The House of Saud has gone through three phases: the First Saudi State, the Second Saudi State, and the modern nation of Saudi Arabia. The First Saudi State marked the expansion of Wahhabism. The Second Saudi State was marked with continuous infighting. Modern Saudi Arabia wields considerable influence in the Middle East.

The long-running conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran reached new heights this week after the kingdom severed diplomatic relations with Tehran.
The diplomatic rupture, which has heightened tensions in the Middle East, came after Saudi executed 47 people on January 2, including a prominent Shia cleric - Nimr al-Nimr.
Within hours of the death sentence being carried out, Iranian protesters ransacked the Saudi embassy in Tehran and started fires.
Iranian media had depicted Nimr as a peaceful dissident, and the execution as a provocative act. In Saudi Arabia, the national security narrative prevailed - Nimr's execution was justified as part of its "war on terrorism".
The coverage in both countries and the international media, has since played up a sectarian divide - one that pits Sunni versus Shia - however this simplified binary fails to address the larger geopolitical issues involved.
Talking us through this geopolitical media battle are: Mohammed Alyahya, research fellow at the Gulf Research Centre; Borzou Daragahi, the Middle East correspondent for BuzzFeed News; journalist and author Azadeh Moaveni; and Salman Aldossary, editor-in-chief of the Saudi Asharq Al-Aswat newspaper.
Other stories on our radar this week: In Bangladesh, a court sentences two men to death for the murder of a secular blogger back in 2013; after nearly four months in a Turkish prison, Vice News journalist Mohammed Rasool has been released on bail; in Poland, the passing of a new media law has prompted resignations from senior journalists and complaints from press freedom groups and China has expelled a French journalist amid accusations that her article supported terrorism.
US elections and 'horse race journalism'
In the US, the race for the White House is well under way and some news outlets have succumbed to syndrome known as "horse race journalism". This is when journalists focus on candidates' polling positions rather than their policies.
This coverage can leave voters uninformed, however for candidates doing well in the polls this can mean a lot of free publicity.
News editors tend to devote more airtime and column inches to whoever the polls say are leading the race.
The Listening Post's Will Yong looks at the use of polls in the US presidential election and what gets lost when outlets crunch the numbers more than they do proper journalism.
In the first few weeks of the year the gym can get rather crowded with all the people trying to achieve their New Year resolutions of healthier lifestyles and better bodies.
It has become pretty normal human behaviour which may have been the inspiration behind the latest video produced by a US-based health and fitness YouTube channel called Buff Dudes.
The video, narrated in the style of a nature documentary, is called Gym Wildlife and looks at the other kinds of human behaviour on display in gyms. We hope you enjoy the show!

The invasion of Iraq has fuelled anti-western sentiment in Saudi Arabia, strengthening grassroots’ support for terrorist organisations.
Allan Gerson has sued Saudi charities, banks and members of the royal family for two trillion dollars. He accuses them of financing the September 11 attacks and Bali bombing: “We have seen evidence of money that went from Saudi sources through various entities in Europe to support terrorist cells.” These allegations are strenuously denied by Crown Prince Abdullah, ruler of Saudi Arabia. However, there is a growing gulf between the governing elite and their subjects and many Saudis are angered by America’s unwavering support for Israel. “The more the Palestinians are oppressed and the more the Americans support Israel, the more popular bin Laden and his like becomes,” explains Saudi writer Sulayman Al-Hattlan. “Osama stood up for people who were quiet ... He told the States I'm not afraid of you,” admires one student. Her friend agrees: “If Bush makes us choose between our religion or hurting our people, we're going to choose our religion.” Images of the bombing of Baghdad can only galvanise support for Islamic fundamentalists prepared to bank-roll Al-Qaeda.

In recent weeks, the alleged Saudi connection to the 9/11 attacks has been hitting the mainstream media with a vengeance after Zacarias Moussaoui, the so-called 20th 9/11 hijacker, shocked the world by claiming the Saudi Royal family played a direct role in arranging and financing the Sept. 11 attacks against America.
In addition, a growing chorus of voices have been increasing their demands for the Federal goverment to release the classified 28 pages of the 9/11 Commission Report, which reportedly implicate the Saudi government in providing aid and comfort to Al Qaeda members.
On today’s podcast, Jerry Robinson asks: “What if the Saudi government actually financed the 9/11 attacks against America?”
This is one of our most hard-hitting podcasts!
Later, Precious Metals Advisor, Tom Cloud, alerts gold and silver investors to upcoming events in Europe and in the United States that could have a big impact on the price of metals in the near-term.
ON TODAY’S PODCAST, YOU WILL LEARN MORE ABOUT:
– Why Saudi Arabia and ISIS have more in common than most people realize…
– Why the Bush administration let Osama Bin Laden slip through their fingers in 2001…
– How the Bin Laden family got preferential treatment over all other Americans in the days just after 9/11…
– How the events of 9/11 provided convenient cover for the Pentagon’s financial mismanagement…
– How the West stooped to a new low in the wake of Saudi King Abdullah’s death…
– Where nearly all Middle East terrorism is born…

Saudi Arabia could potentially run out of the financial assets it needs within five years if it sticks with its current policies and opposition lawyers filed a new petition to Congress for the impeachment of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. Ameera David weighs in. Then, Ameera sits down with Warren Mosler – president of Valance Co., Inc. – to talk about oil.
After the break, Bianca Facchinei takes a look at illegal tax breaks in Europe, an emergency meeting over the refugee crisis, and yet another problem for millennials. Afterwards, Ameera is joined by Aswath Damodaran – professor of finance at NYU’s Stern School of Business – to talk tech. And in The Big Deal, Ameera and Edward Harrison discuss Western Digital, Yahoo, and Microsoft.

The government of Saudi Arabia, which financed the 9/11 attacks on the United States, according to the still-classified 28-pages from the congressional joint inquiry on the intelligence failures that led to the attacks, recently shocked Germany by offering to build 200 mosques for recently-arrived Muslim refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan, and other predominantly Muslim nations.

ISIS, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the connections between the CIA and Israel with the so-called enemies of America are exposed in an uncensored interview with Wayne Madsen. The former NSA worker, turned whistleblower and muckraker discusses the kabal of conspiracy that includes the Saudis, key figures in the US government, and stretches from the Bilderbergs to Rhodes Scholars in a web of influence that has spun country after country into turmoil. Are ISIS fighters just misguided and gullible proxy mercenaries for the Saudis? Was 9/11 another black op in a long line that has been the norm since WWII with the British government? Learn of the far reaching conspiracy in this Buzzsaw, hosted by Sean Stone.

[250] Mosler: The Saudis are still the swing producer. They are engineering the oil price crash

This morning, the US Labor Department reported an unexpectedly large 321,000 increase in nonfarm payrolls in November. This marks a record 50th straight months of payroll gains in the United States. Importantly, not only were nonfarm payrolls up 321,000 but revisions to the previous two months of data were plus 44,000 jobs - meaning this report showed 365,000 jobs being added to the US economy. Edward weighs in.
Then, Edward sits down with Warren Mosler – president of Valance Inc. In light of the jobs report, Warren gives us his take on what’s going on with wages in the US and if policymakers believe a robust economic recovery is possible without real wage growth. Warren also weighs in on the important subject of oil. He sees the Saudis acting as the swing producer of oil, using spread pricing to engineer a market crash that hurts producers of crude with high costs and too much debt.
After the break is our Defining Moments segment, including commentary from Peter Joseph, Cullen Roche, David Henderson, David Beckworth, and Peter Schiff on economic inequity, millennials, the minimum wage, basic income, Japan’s sales tax, and gold.
And in The Big Deal, Edward and Bianca Facchinei discuss all of the economic woes troubling the millennial generation. Take a look!
