How do I change my location to search for stuff to buy?

On the homepage, under the Search bar, you can change the default location of your search. Clicking this will bring results closest to your selected location first. You can enter a postcode, suburb or city into this bar. Alternatively, you can select your location from a dropdown list.

Do I need to register with BuyandSell.com.au to start buying stuff?

No - you are not required to register with BuyandSell.com.au to search or enquire about a listing.

I placed an ad in a Fairfax newspaper, but I cannot find it online, where is it?

Your ad may not be appearing online for a number of reasons:

  • Ads placed in newspapers will appear online on the date of publication in print.
  • It can take up to 24 hours for your ad to appear online.
  • Please ensure that you have entered the correct search criteria online.

I placed an ad in a Fairfax newspaper and received an email to edit it. What do I do now?

If you placed an ad in a Fairfax newspaper and received an email, you are able to login to the BuyandSell.com.au ad placement portal. Once you have logged in, you are able to edit your ad details, enhance your ad to make it stand out and work better for you. You are able to update your ad 24 hours a day. BuyandSell.com.au provides this functionality for your convenience.

How do I contact a seller?

The advertiser can choose to enter their phone number or they can choose to be contacted via the BuyandSell.com.au messaging system. When viewing an ad, click on the “Advertiser Info” tab underneath the price or hit the red “Enquire” button and fill out the form to contact the advertiser.

What information do you store about me?

I am having difficulty viewing ads in Internet Explorer, how can I manage this?

Despite our best efforts, certain functionality in Internet Explorer browser breaks down. To counter this, we recommend you use the latest version of Firefox, Chrome or Safari. Each week, many people get extremely satisfying results from finding great buys and selling great things on BuyandSell.com.au. Unfortunately however, sometimes, things go wrong. If you follow a few easy steps, you can dramatically decrease your risk of being scammed.

  • Pick the Goods Up - Picking the goods up is the best way to avoid being scammed. Use your common-sense when organising to pick an item up to avoid any possible security hazards.
  • If you can’t pick it up: Buy from Australian Companies using a Credit Card - buying from registered Australian companies using a credit card is the best way to avoid any problems, as strong systems are in place to handle dispute resolution.
  • If you are dealing with a private individual: be specific about the item you are buying - ask the seller specific questions about the item. Gain a clear understanding about any possible flaws or faults it may have and how it has been used before.

How can I report a scam/fraudulent ad?

On the ad details page, under the toolbox is a ‘Report this as a scam/fraud’ link. Click on this link and enter your comments and submit. Our support team constantly monitors this and will take appropriate action.

What should I do if a transaction turns bad?

Unfortunately, BuyandSell.com.au has limited power to investigate fraudulent transactions. We recommend contacting your local police or the Small Claims division at your local court. We are able to provide any required information to the proper authorities.

Make sure you are able to provide key information about the individual or company involved (name, contact details, fraudulent ad details).
