Rivals at Democratic Debate Attack Hillary Clinton
Second Democratic Debate: The Best Lines
Candidates Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley began the debate with a moment of silence in the debate hall at Drake University.
ON HILLARY CLINTON AS SECRETARY OF STATE
Sanders: “I think we have a disagreement, and the disagreement is that not only did I vote against the war in Iraq. If you look at history, you will find that regime change, whether it was in the early ‘50s in Iran… whether it was overthrowing the government of Guatemala way back when, these invasions, these toppling of governments, regime changes have unintended consequences.”
O’Malley: “Secretary Clinton also said we - it was not just the invasion of Iraq which Secretary Clinton voted for and has since said was a big mistake -- and, indeed, it was.”
ON FOREIGN POLICY
Clinton: "It is imperative that we do more not only to help our friends and partners protect themselves and protect our own homeland, but also to work to try to deal with this arc of instability, which does have a lot of impact on what happens in a country like Libya."
O'Malley: "The world is not too dangerous a place for United States of America provided we act according to our principles, providing we act intelligently."
ON THE WAR WITH EXTREMISTS
ON THE US MILITARY
Sanders: “I think we need major reform in the military, making it more cost effective, but also focusing on the real crisis that faces us.”
ON SYRIAN REFUGEES
Sanders: “I believe United States has the moral responsibility with Europe, with gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, to make sure that when people leave countries like Afghanistan and Syria with nothing more than the clothing on their back that, of course, we reach out. Now, what the magic number is, I don’t know because we don’t know the extent of the problem.”
ON FINANCIAL CONCERNS AMONG THE MIDDLE CLASS
Clinton: “Well, first of all, it isn’t the middle class; I have made it very clear that hard-working middle-class families need a raise not a tax increase. In fact, wages adjusting for inflation haven’t risen since the turn of the last century after my husband’s administration, so we have a lot of work to do.”
ON HEALTH CARE
Sanders: “I want to end the international embarrassment of the United States of America being the only major country on Earth that doesn’t guarantee health care to all people as a right, not a privilege.”
ON IMMIGRATION
O’Malley: “The fact of the matter is – and let’s say it in our debate because you’ll never hear this from that immigration-bashing carnival barker Donald Trump. The truth of the matter is net immigration from Mexico last year was zero. Fact check me.… Our symbol is the Statue of Liberty. It is not a barbed-wire fence.”
ON MINIMUM WAGE
Sanders: “We have go to move the minimum wage to a living wage, 15 bucks an hour. And I apologize to nobody for that.”
O’Malley: “The more our people earn, the more money they spend, and the more our whole economy grows.”
ON WALL STREET
Clinton: “I want to look at the whole problem and that’s why my proposal is much more comprehensive than anything put forth.”
Sanders in response: “Not good enough.”
Clinton in response: "Oh, wait a minute, senator. You know, not only do I have hundreds of thousands of donors, most of them small and I'm very proud that for the first time a majority of my donors are women, 60 percent."
ON GUN CONTROL
Clinton: “Since we last debated in Las Vegas, nearly 3,000 people have been killed by guns ... 200 children have been killed. This is an emergency.”
ON RACE
Clinton: “But what happened at the university there [University of Missouri], what’s happening at other universities, I think reflects the deep sense of, you know, concern, even despair that so many young people, particularly of color, have.”
ON EDUCATION
Sanders: “I want kids in Burlington, Vermont or Baltimore, Maryland, who are in the sixth grade or the eighth grade, who don't have a lot of money, whose parents-- like my parents-- may never have gone to college. I want those kids to know if they study hard, they do their homework, regardless of the income of their families, they will in fact be able to get a college education because we are going to make public colleges and universities tuition-free.”

Face The Nation host John Dickerson and CBS’ Nancy Cordes are the co-moderators for tonight’s Democratic Debate on CBS, joined by Kathie Obradovich and Kevin Cooney, which kicks of at 9 p.m. EST.
Here are 8 things you heard Democrats say in the CBS debate you’d never hear from the GOP
here are a lot of differences between the GOP debate and the Democratic debate, but the major one is that there were significantly less spin and nonsense in Saturday night’s democratic debate on CBS.
Here are the top 8 things you’d never hear come out of a republican candidate’s mouth during a debate:
1. “Climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism. And if we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say … you’re going to see all kinds of international conflict.” — Bernie Sanders
Let’s be realistic, after five debates only a few times republican candidates addressed climate change. In the first three-hour debate, there was merely a single question about the future of our planet and the dangers we face. Senator Marco Rubio, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (who isn’t even running anymore) were the only candidates who answered and all three argued nothing should be done by the American government to fix the problem.
2. “I’m not that much of a socialist compared to Eisenhower.” – Bernie Sanders
One of the most tweeted remarks of the night came from Sanders’ claim that the tax rate when Eisenhower was President was higher than what the tax rate would be under a Sanders administration. “We haven’t come up with an exact number yet,” Sanders said. “But it will not be as high as the number under Dwight D. Eisenhower which was 90 percent.”
A factcheck of that proves Sanders is correct. In Eisenhower’s first term, the tax rate for incomes over $400,000 was 92 percent. It was the second highest tax rate in history. First was under FDR during World War II when the tax rate was 94 percent.
No way a republican would raise taxes on anyone over $400,000.
3. “Let’s say it in our debate because you’ll never hear this from that immigration-bashing carnival barker Donald Trump: the truth.” – Martin O’Malley
Trump’s stance on immigration reform is remarkably similar to a carnival in that it is both a distorted fun house mirror as well as a joke like a washed-up freak show clown. He would deport all undocumented immigrations, which would cost the country far more than we could afford. He also says he would build a wall that he would make Mexico pay for, a policy that the spokesperson for Mexican President Pena Nieto said is ridiculous.
“Of course it’s false,” Eduardo Sanchez, Nieto’s spokesman, said in a telephone interview with Bloomberg. “It reflects an enormous ignorance for what Mexico represents, and also the irresponsibility of the candidate who’s saying it.”
4. “Hardworking middle-class families need a raise—not a tax increase.” – Hillary Clinton
A July 2014 study found that states that raised their minimum wage from ballot initiatives on January 1, 2014, had a much stronger employment growth than those that didn’t raise the wage. “A recent study by the Center for Economic and Policy Research attempts to undercut the argument that raising the minimum wage kills jobs. The study, which updates a Goldman Sachs analysis to include data from April and May, shows that the 13 states that increased their minimum wages on Jan. 1 have had stronger employment growth than the 37 states that didn’t. The study compared average employment during the first five months of 2014 with the last five months of 2013.”
By contrast, Jeb Bush opposed raising the wage, Marco Rubio said it would be “a disaster” in the last Fox Business News debate, Rand Paul has already voted against it and Trump refused to do it because he thinks every problem will be solved by closing the borders.
5. “Here’s my promise: Wall Street representatives will not be in my Cabinet.” – Bernie Sanders
You’d never hear a promise like this from a republican candidate, particularly Wall Street’s latest lap dog Marco Rubio who scored a major endorsement recently from Wall Street hedge fund billionaire Paul Singer. Singer is well known for having strings attached to his money.
6. “I don’t think taxpayers should be paying to send Donald Trump’s kids to college.” – Hillary Clinton.
7. “Why do they make millions of dollars of campaign contributions? They expect to get something.” – Bernie Sanders
8. “All of us support funding Planned Parenthood. All of us believe climate change is real. All of us want equal pay for equal work.” – Hillary Clinton

KTVA reporter Charlo Greene quit her job on live TV last night, outing herself as the owner of an Alaskan cannabis club and declaring "f*ck it".
Having grown weary of reporting the news, Green told viewers she would instead be putting all her energy into the fight to legalise marijuana in the state, having previously reported on the Alaska Cannabis Club without mentioning her connection to it.
In a jaw-dropping twist to the end of a segment she was presenting, she said: "Now everything you heard is why I, the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club, will be dedicating all of my energy toward fighting for freedom and fairness which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska.
"And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, f**k it, I quit."
The Alaska Cannabis Club, which connects medical marijuana cardholders with local growers, urged its Facebook followers to tune into KTVA earlier in the evening.
Following Greene's mic drop, the main anchor could only stutter: "Alright we apologise for that….we'll, we'll be right back."
Green has since started an Indiegogo campaign for cannabis reform, explaining in its summary: "I'm Charlo Greene, the president and CEO of the Alaska Cannabis Club - Alaska's only legal medical marijuana resource.
"I just quit my news reporting job on live TV to announce that I am redirecting all of my energy toward helping to end a failed drug policy that has ruined the lives of far too many Americans."
KTVA could only apologise on Twitter, saying rather worryingly (and hopefully erroneously) that Charlo had been "terminated".
"Viewers, we sincerely apologize for the inappropriate language used by a KTVA reporter on the air tonight," it wrote. "The employee has been terminated."

Now Watch FULL 3rd Democratic Debate ABC News https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhbXlYvLZwavKrtc_OENNWC-bILBWtpE_ Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Martin O'Malley Hosted by CBS.

CBS News will broadcast a special report tonight called "Malcolm X: The Real Story." Calling this show "the real story" might be the most outrageous TV claim of the year.
The show itself is a superficial archival-clips-and-quickie-interview job with Dan Rather as host. As such, it probably wouldn't be worth too much attention. But the fact that it will be seen by about 20 million people tonight a

CBS Democratic Debate Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Martin O'Malley Hosted by CBS.

But the fact that it will be seen by about 20 million people tonight and that CBS is telling those viewers that they are seeing "the real story" opens the door for a look at how TV has dealt with Malcolm X over the years.
"Like Paul Robeson before him, American TV proved inhospitable to . . . Malcolm X," J. Fred MacDonald said in his 1992 book "Blacks and White TV: African Americans in Television Since 1948."
"Except for a few black-hosted programs long after his assassination in 1965, television has portrayed Malcolm X as a hate-filled, racist radical."
That's the general assessment of media historians: TV either excluded Malcolm X or portrayed him negatively when it did include him. Thereis also agreement that TV's depiction of Malcolm X as a "hate-filled, racist radical" started with CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace and a TV special on Black Muslims that Wallace co-anchored in 1959, "The Hate That Hate Produced." In fact, Wallace played a larger role in the characterization of Malcolm X over the years than any other single person in television.
Tonight's "real story" includes a clip from "The Hate That Hate Produced." It also includes Wallace's reflections about his first encounter with Malcolm X. The 1959 show and Wallace's performance are both presented in a favorable light.
What "Malcolm X: The Real Story" doesn't tell viewers is that "The Hate That Hate Produced" took TV news to new heights of sensationalism by portraying Malcolm X and other Black Muslims only as hate-filled, racist radicals. Here's how Malcolm X himself described the show and reaction to it in his autobiography: "In a way, the public reaction to the show was like what happened back in the 1930s when Orson Welles frightened America with a radio program, describing, as though it were actually happening, an invasion by 'men from Mars.'
"Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers were exclaiming, 'Did you hear it? Did you see it? Preaching hate of white people?' Here was oneof the white man's most characteristic behavior patterns -- where black men are concerned. He loves himself so much that he is startled if he discovers that his victims don't share his vainglorious self-opinion."
Tonight's show doesn't mention that. It also doesn't mention the New York Times' review of "The Hate That Hate Produced" that blasted the report, saying, "Mike Wallace's penchant for pursuing sensationalism as an end in itself has backfired."
In a recent interview with The Sun, Mr. Wallace defended the 1959 broadcast, saying that six months later the New York Times did a similar series on the Black Muslims while citing his work. "TV in effect led the way," Wallace said.
But Wallace acknowledged that TV did not do a very good job of reporting on Malcolm X.
