Now train journey is almost half hour from malkwal to pind dadan khan, I really miss my Railway stations which was so attractive and beautiful with locals. The Malakwal–Khushab branch line was built as part of the Sind–Sagar Railway between 1884 to 1939. In May 1887, the Victoria Bridge was completed over the Jhelum river between Malakwal and Chak Nizam and a railway line was constructed from Malakwal to Khushab. The line was conceived to haul freight from the mining rich region and served two important smaller railways: the Gharibwal Cement Works Railway and the Dandot Light Railway (serving the Khewra Salt Mine). The Dandot Light Railway opened in 1905 as a 10 kilometres 610 mm (2 ft) narrow gauge railway from Dandot railway station to Chalisa Junction railway station. It was built to serve the Khewra Salt Mine. The Gharibwal Cement Works Railway opened in May 1886 as a 27 kilometres 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) railway from Haranpur Junction to Gharibwal. It was built to serve the Gharibwal quarry. River Jhelum this was a fast flowing river in the Punjab. But during 1961-1967 someone did not good with this river and water flowing speed and regular water flowing stops. I was very upset that what happened with this river because after my first journey in 1887 till 1967 there was not lack of the water. In my 80 year career. Until 1967, the entire irrigation system of Pakistan was fully dependent on unregulated flows of the Indus and its major tributaries. The agricultural yield was very low for a number of reasons, the most important being a lack of water during critical growing periods. This problem stemmed from the seasonal variations in the river flow due to monsoons and the absence of storage reservoirs to conserve the vast amounts of surplus water during those periods of high river discharge. Pind Dadan Khan population according to the 1901 census was 13,770. It was formerly the dépot to which salt was brought from the Mayo Mine, from which it was carried across the river to the railway; but the bridging of the Jhelum at Haranpur and the extension of the railway to Khewra have by-passed. In earlier days, brass vessels were made in the town and there was a considerable weaving industry. Embroidered luugis were often sold at high prices. Boat-building was a source of skilled employment, and river boats of Pind Dadan Khan make were in request throughout the whole course of the Jhelum. However, after the construction of Mangla Dam to strengthen the irrigation system of the country as part of the Indus Basin Project, there is now diminished water flow in the river Jhelum except during the flooded season. Manufactured products included glazed pottery of a deep red color, ornamented with black patterns and remarkably strong and of good quality was a speciality of the town, as well as stout leathern riding-whips made after English patterns. Nandana a village near Pind Dadan Khan is the place where Abu al Rehan Muhammad Alberuni came and he established a laboratory there which is still present there. Alberuni calculated the diameter of earth in that laboratory during his lifetime, now the laboratory seriously needs some interest by the govt of Pakistan as it is not look aftered and the building is vanishing day by day. if soon necessary care will not be given there will be no sign of great work by Alberuni However, skilled artisans have left the area. The Shuttle one train journey is 17 km but it cross three districts, Distritct Mandi Bahudin, District Sargodha and district Jhelum.
