FORMER NYSE HEAD: THE STOCK MARKET IS RIGGED
John Vibes writing for TrueActivist published this... Richard Grasso acted as the chairman and chief executive of the New York Stock Exchange from 1995 to 2003, and he has come out in a recent interview saying that the stock market is rigged. Considering that he spent nearly a decade at the head of the institution, he would obviously have legitimate experience to speak on.

Floor trading is where traders or stockbrokers meet at a specific venue referred to as a trading floor or pit to buy and sell financial instruments using open outcry method to communicate with each other. These venues are typically stock exchanges or futures exchanges and transactions are executed by members of such an exchange using specific language or hand signals. During the 1980s and 1990s phone and electronic trading replaced physical floor trading in most exchanges around the world.
As of 2007 few exchanges still have floor trading. One example is the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) which still executes a small percentage of its trades on the floor. That means that the traders actually form a group around the post on the floor of the market for the specialist, someone that works for one of the NYSE member firms and handles the stock. Just like in an auction, there are shouts coming from those that want to sell and those that want to buy. The specialist facilitates in the match and centralizing the trades.
On January 24, 2007, the NYSE went from being strictly an auction market to a hybrid market that encompassed both the auction method and an electronic trading method that immediately makes the trade electronically. A small group of extremely high-priced stocks isn't on this trading system and is still auctioned on the trading floor.
Even though over 82 percent of the trades take place electronically, the action on the floor of the stock exchange still has its place. While electronic trading is faster and provides for anonymity, there's more opportunity to improve the price of a share if it goes to the floor. Investors maintain the right to select the method they want to use.

On October 19, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped 508 points, a 22.6% loss in a single day, the second-biggest one-day drop the exchange had experienced. Black Monday was followed by Terrible Tuesday, a day in which the Exchange's systems did not perform well and some people had difficulty completing their trades.
Subsequently, there was another major drop for the Dow on October 13, 1989; the Mini-Crash of 1989. The crash was apparently caused by a reaction to a news story of a $6.75 billion leveraged buyout deal for UAL Corporation, the parent company of United Airlines, which broke down. When the UAL deal fell through, it helped trigger the collapse of the junk bond market causing the Dow to fall 190.58 points, or 6.91 percent.
Similarly, there was a panic in the financial world during the year of 1997; the Asian Financial Crisis. Like the fall of many foreign markets, the Dow suffered a 7.18% drop in value (554.26 points) on October 27, 1997, in what later became known as the 1997 Mini-Crash but from which the DJIA recovered quickly. This was the first time that the "circuit breaker" rule had operated.
On January 26, 2000, an altercation during filming of the music video for "Sleep Now in the Fire", which was directed by Michael Moore, caused the doors of the exchange to be closed and the band Rage Against the Machine to be escorted from the site by security[15] after band members attempted to gain entry into the exchange.[16] Trading on the exchange floor, however, continued uninterrupted.[17]
In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the NYSE was closed for 4 trading sessions, one of the longest times the NYSE was closed for more than one session; only the third time since March 1933.
On May 6, 2010, the Dow Jones Industrial Average posted its largest intraday percentage drop since the October 19, 1987 crash, with a 998 point loss later being called the 2010 Flash Crash (as the drop occurred in minutes before rebounding). The SEC and CFTC published a report on the event, although it did not come to a conclusion as to the cause. The regulators found no evidence that the fall was caused by erroneous ("fat finger") orders.[18]
On October 29, 2012, the stock exchange was shut down for 2 days due to Hurricane Sandy.[19] The last time the stock exchange was closed due to weather for a full two days was on March 12 and 13 in 1888.[20]
On May 1, 2014 the stock exchange was fined $4.5 million "to settle charges it violated market rules, the Securities and Exchange Commission said Thursday."

An Overview of the New York Stock Exchange: Building, Trading Floor, History (1998)
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), sometimes known as the "Big Board", is a stock exchange located at 11 Wall Street, Lower Manhattan, New York City, New York,...
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), sometimes known as the "Big Board", is a stock exchange located at 11 Wall Street, Lower Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States. It is by far the world's largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies at US$16.613 trillion as of May 2013. Average daily trading value was approximately US$169 billion in 2013.
The NYSE trading floor is located at 11 Wall Street and is composed of four rooms used for the facilitation of trading. A fifth trading room, located at 30 Broad Street, was closed in February 2007. The main building, located at 18 Broad Street, between the corners of Wall Street and Exchange Place, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1978, as was the 11 Wall Street building.
The NYSE is operated by NYSE Euronext (NYSE: NYX), which was formed by the NYSE's 2007 merger with the fully electronic stock exchange Euronext. In December 2012, it was announced that the company would be sold to Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), a futures exchange headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, for $8 billion, a figure that is significantly less than the $11 billion bid for the company tendered in 2011.
The origin of the NYSE can be traced to May 17, 1792, when the Buttonwood Agreement was signed by 24 stockbrokers outside of 68 Wall Street in New York under a buttonwood tree on Wall Street.[10] On March 8, 1817, the organization drafted a constitution and renamed itself the "New York Stock & Exchange Board". Anthony Stockholm was elected the Exchange's first president.
The last central location of the Exchange was a room, rented in 1792 for $200 a month, located at 40 Wall Street. After that location was destroyed in the Great Fire of New York in 1835, the Exchange moved to a temporary headquarters. In 1863, the New York Stock & Exchange Board changed to its current name, the New York Stock Exchange. In 1865, the Exchange moved to 10--12 Broad Street.
The New York Stock Exchange was closed for ten days starting September 20, 1873, because of the Panic of 1873.[11]
The volume of stocks traded increased sixfold in the years between 1896 and 1901, and a larger space was required to conduct business in the expanding marketplace.[12] Eight New York City architects were invited to participate in a design competition for a new building; ultimately, the Exchange selected the neoclassic design submitted by architect George B. Post. Demolition of the Exchange building at 10 Broad Street, and adjacent buildings, started on May 10, 1901.
The main façade featuring six tall columns with Corinthian capitals
The new building, located at 18 Broad Street, cost $4 million and opened on April 22, 1903. The trading floor, at 109 × 140 feet (33 × 42.5 m), was one of the largest volumes of space in the city at the time, and had a skylight set into a 72-foot (22 m)-high ceiling. The main façade of the building features six tall columns with Corinthian capitals, topped by a marble pediment containing high-relief sculptures by John Quincy Adams Ward with the collaboration of Paul Wayland Bartlett, carved by the Piccirilli Brothers, representing Integrity Protecting the Works of Man. The building was listed as a National Historic Landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 2, 1978.[13]
In 1922, a building for offices, designed by Trowbridge & Livingston, was added at 11 Wall Street, as well as a new trading floor called the Garage. Additional trading floor space was added in 1969 the Blue Room, and in 1988 the EBR or Extended Blue Room, with the latest technology for information display and communication. Yet another trading floor was opened at 30 Broad Street called the Bond Room in 2000. As the NYSE introduced its hybrid market, a greater proportion of trading came to be executed electronically, and due to the resulting reduction in demand for trading floor space, the NYSE decided to close the 30 Broad Street trading room in early 2006. As the adoption of electronic trading continued to reduce the number of traders and employees on the floor, in late 2007, the NYSE closed the rooms created by the 1969 and 1988 expansions.

The New York Stock Exchange, United Airlines and the Wall Street Journal have all fallen victim to a massive cyber attack which appears to be targeting the US.
NYSE is currently halting all trading, for reasons not yet announced.
Tens of thousands of United Airlines passengers were stranded at U.S. airports on Wednesday morning after all of the carrier's flights were grounded nationwide due to a computer system glitch.
The Wall Street Journal was also left unable to publish after its systems came under attack and has been forced to switch to an alternative site design.

On Monday, personal income for August increased by .3%, consumer spending was up .4%, and the core PCE inflation index was up a small .1%. Pending home sales for August fell 1.4% to 109.4. However, markets couldn’t shake Fed rate hike uncertainty and some weak international economic news showing China’s industrial profits declined 8.7% in August year-over-year. Markets ended the day down sharply with the Dow Industrials losing 312 points.
On Tuesday, the Case-Shiller home price index for July was down .2%, after another .2% decline the prior month.
On Wednesday, the ADP employment report for September was 200,000, up 14,000 from the prior month. Stocks rallied a bit, however, the day closed with the major averages down about 7 percent lower for the third quarter, the worst quarterly performance in four years.
On Thursday, motor vehicle sales for September were considerably stronger than expected, up 4.3% for North American made vehicles. Jobless claims for the week ending September 26th rose 10,000 to 277,000 and the ISM manufacturing index for September was weaker than expected at 50.2, barely in positive growth territory.
On Friday, nonfarm payrolls for September grew only 142,000, dramatically lower than estimates, and unemployment held steady at 5.1%. Markets opened down sharply on the disappointing news.
Now let’s take a look at some stocks.
General Motors’ stock rallied this week after the car manufacturer informed Wall Street that its recovery is taking hold better than anticipated. GM informed investors that it is forecasting earnings between $5 and $5.50 per share, well above Wall Street’s expectations of $3.05 per share.
Shopify Inc. shares spiked up 6% on Wednesday to $35.69, after the Canadian-based e-commerce company announced that it has partnered with Twitter. US-based businesses will sell products directly on Twitter’s website and Twitter will feature a “Buy Now” button from Shopify for its users.
McCormick & Company, Incorporated shares plummeted more than 4% Thursday after the spice producer reported third quarter earnings that missed analysts’ forecasts. McCormick posted earnings of $0.85 per share, and the company also stated that sales growth for the year will be weaker than previously anticipated.
Dunkin’ Brands Group, Inc. stock fell by more than 10% Thursday after the franchise offered a lower-than-expected full-year outlook while also revealing plans to close 100 Dunkin’ Donuts stores in 2015 and 2016. Dunkin’ expects to earn between $1.87 and $1.91 per share, below forecasts of $1.92 per share.
Twitter, Inc. shares plummeted more than 7% Thursday after the social media company announced that interim CEO, Jack Dorsey, will become permanent. Dorsey is also the CEO of Square. Investors are concerned whether or not he will be able to allocate his time properly between the two companies.

On Monday, the ISM non-manufacturing index for September slowed to 56.9 compared to 59 from the prior month. This was an unexpected, but the index still remains at a strong level. Investors increasingly believe that no rate hike will occur this year. Markets rallied strongly with the Dow Industrials closing up 304 points.
On Tuesday, the trade deficit increased 6.5 billion to 48.3 billion, blamed partly on a surge in imports of new iPhones, along with weak exports due to the strength of the dollar.
On Wednesday, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported that weekly mortgage applications shot up 25.5% due to apprehension over new mortgage regulations.
On Thursday, jobless claims for the week ending October 3rd fell 13,000 to 263,000 and the four week moving average is at 267,500, both extremely low numbers. The Federal Reserve released minutes from their September meeting and specifically mentioned that recent global developments would likely keep inflation contained in the near term. Markets closed up modestly.
On Friday export prices for September fell .7%, import prices fell .1% and markets opened slightly higher.
Now let’s take a look at some stocks.
Last Monday Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) co-founder Jack Dorsey was appointed the new permanent CEO by its board of directors. Dorsey will be running two companies, Twitter, as well as Square, the mobile payments company he also co-founded. Shares of Twitter were up more than 6 % after the announcement.
Shares of PMC-Sierra Inc. (NASDAQ:PMCS), a semiconductor maker for telecom networks, surged more than 33% Tuesday, after Skyworks Solutions announced it will acquire the company. Skyworks, a semiconductor manufacturer, also a supplier to Apple, will pay shareholders of PMC-Sierra $10.50 a share, a 37 percent premium relative to the share price at Monday’s close.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) unveiled several new products last Tuesday, including its first laptop called the Surface Book, with a claimed 12 hour battery life. Microsoft also revealed two new Lumia smartphones running Windows 10, a new fitness-focused wearable called Microsoft Band 2, and a Surface Pro 4 tablet.
Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE:YUM) shares dropped 18% on Tuesday during after-hours trading, following release of the fast food company’s third quarter report. Sales in China grew by only 2%, way below expectations of 9.6%. YUM Brands generates more than half of its profits in China, and the slowdown is partly blamed on a supplier scandal last July.
New York Times Co (NYSE:NYT) announced plans to double its digital revenue over the course of the next four years. The media giant is planning to increase the number of paid online subscribers and attract more young and international readers. The Times has $400 million annual revenue through online subscriptions and advertising and the plan is to double that to $800 million annually by 2020. Shares of the company closed higher on Wednesday.

Business News - Financial News - Stock Exchange -- Wall Street -- Market News - New York Stock Exchange 2015
On Tuesday, in the absence of significant economic news, China and the Federal Reserve’s upcoming meeting next week dominated investors’ minds. China’s economy showed more evidence of slowing as their exports declined 5.5% year-over-year in August and their imports fell 13.8%. However, the Shanghai Composite finished the day with a gain of 2.9% and this encouraged markets. The Dow Industrials ended the day up 390 points, or 2.42%.
On Wednesday, markets gave back much of the gains with the Dow Industrials closing down 239 points, with blame partially going to a sharp drop in oil. The JOLTS job opening report for July was up 3.9%, considered very strong.
On Thursday, jobless claims for the week ending September 5th were down 6,000 to 275,000, and import prices for August were down 1.8% month-over-month. Markets ended the day modestly higher.
On Friday, the producer price index for August was released and it was unchanged. Analysts had expected a .1% drop. Markets opened modestly lower due to uncertainty over whether or not the Fed will raise rates after its meeting next week.
Now let’s take a look at some stocks
Yahoo! Inc.(NASDAQ:YHOO) shares gradually decreased about 4% Tuesday, to close just below $31, after the U.S. Internal Revenue Service denied the company’s request to review, in advance, potential tax liabilities when it spins off its stake in Alibaba. Yahoo was hoping they would get approval for a tax-free spinoff, however, now it’s unknown if the government will allow it.
Both Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) and Office Depot Inc. (NASDAQ:ODP) shares rallied early this week after an analyst from B. Riley upgraded Office Depot. Both companies have agreed to a $6.3 billion merger, and the analyst said it was unlikely that antitrust regulators will object.
Trading in Quiksilver, Inc.(NYSE:ZQK) stock was halted on Wednesday after the struggling surf apparel maker filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for its U.S. business. According to a company filing, the Quiksilver has assets of over $100 million and liabilities of more than $500 million. Quiksilver stock has lost almost 80% of its value relative to Tuesday’s closing price.
Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) shares dropped Wednesday after the company’s new line of products didn't impress investors. Apple’s unveiling included updated iPhones, a larger iPad, and a new television set-top box among other upgrades.
Lululemon Athletica inc.(NASDAQ:LULU) reported their second quarter earnings that beat estimates. The company stated earnings of $0.34 per share on revenue of $453 million, beating estimates of $0.33 per share on revenue of $446 million.
A new report from the Asian Development Bank also cut its growth forecast for China by .4% down to 6.8%. Markets ended the day down strongly, with the Dow Industrials off 179 points.
On Wednesday, the September PMI flash index for manufacturing held steady at 53, slightly in positive growth territory. Markets ended the day modestly lower.
On Thursday, durable goods orders for August declined 2% compared to the prior month’s 1.9% gain, new home sales for August were up 5.7%, and jobless claims for the week ending September 19th were up 3,000 to 267,000. Pandora Media Inc. (NYSE:P) shares jumped more than 5% Monday before pulling back slightly, after it was announced that there has been a positive development in a trial regarding how much music royalties Pandora and other internet radio companies will have to pay. The decision is expected to be announced by the middle of December.
Groupon Inc. (NASDAQ:GRPN) stock fell the entire week after the company announced that it was going to slash 1,100 jobs, approximately 10% of its workforce, and close operations in 7 countries. The online deals company has been struggling as competition continues to increase from Living Social and Amazon.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced Thursday that it is partnering with Baidu, China’s largest search engine, to help increase the transition of China’s Windows users to its latest operating system, Windows 10. Baidu will now provide a quick Windows 10 install option, to its 600 million users, while Microsoft will make Baidu its default search engine and homepage for the Windows Edge browser.
Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) shares dropped Thursday, reaching a new 52-week low of $64.65 after the company lowered its full-year guidance and also announced that it will be eliminating up to 5,000 jobs between now and the end of 2016. Caterpillar also warned that the job cuts could potentially reach 10,000 and last until 2018.
Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) shares fell as much as 5% on Thursday after Citi analysts lowered their target price from $37 to $30 per share. Citi, however, maintained their neutral rating for the stock. Citi believes that the social media company will continue to struggle to monetize its operations.

The hacktivist group Anonymous hinted at possible issues on Wall Street Tuesday evening nearly 12 hours before an alleged glitch halted trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

A recent Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage may soon allow pedophiles to argue they are suffering discrimination.
“Using the same tactics used by ‘gay’ rights activists, pedophiles have begun to seek similar status arguing their desire for children is a sexual orientation no different than heterosexual or homosexuals,” writes Jack Minor for the Northern Colorado Gazette.
Minor notes that “psychiatrists are now beginning to advocate redefining pedophilia in the same way homosexuality was redefined several years ago.”
Homosexuality was long considered a mental illness. However, in 1973, the American Psychiatric Association declassified it from a list of mental disorders.
More recently a self-described organization of “minor-attracted people,” B4U-ACT, held a symposium proposing a new definition of pedophilia in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders of the APA.
B4U-ACT and other pedophile advocacy organizations cite an APA issued a report claiming “that the ‘negative potential’ of adult sex with children was ‘overstated’ and that ‘the vast majority of both men and women reported no negative sexual effects from childhood sexual abuse experiences.”
In 2013 in California Congresswoman Rep. Jackie Speier, a Democrat, proposed federalizing a state law prohibiting counseling to change a person’s sexual orientation. The bill, according to critics, defines pedophilia as a sexual orientation and would afford the same rights granted to homosexuals.
“This language is so broad and vague, it arguably could include all forms of sexual orientation, including pedophilia,” said Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute. “It’s not just the orientation that is protected — the conduct associated with the orientation is protected as well.”
Democrats defeated an amendment by Republicans that stated “pedophilia is not covered as an orientation.” A Florida Democrat, Rep. Alcee Hastings, said all alternative sexual lifestyles should be protected under the law.
In 2014 The New York Times argued in favor of civil rights for pedophiles.
Margo Kaplan, an entrepreneurial assistant law professor at Rutgers University, and a former lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union, wrote for the newspaper that around one percent of people sexually attracted to children must “hide their disorder from everyone they know — or risk losing educational and job opportunities, and face the prospect of harassment and even violence.”
This is essentially the same argument used to mainstream homosexuality.
“In point of fact, all the principle arguments commonly used to normalize homosexuality have been used to normalize pedophilia and pederasty,” writes Michael Brown.
Jerome Corsi, writing for WND, is concerned pedophilia will become the next “sexual rights” revolution. Corsi points to the normalizing of sexual pathology that occurred following research by Alfred Kinsey and the Kinsey Institute into “sexual variations.”
Corsi cites Judith Reisman and her 2010 book “Sexual Sabotage.”
“Our laws are no longer based on Judeo-Christian morality, but on Kinsey’s immoral ‘morality’: an adulterous, fornicating, aborting, pornography-addicted, masturbating, impotent, sadistic, masochistic, bisexual, homosexual, exhibitionist, voyeuristic, and child-sexual-abusive world,” she wrote.
“These truths are difficult to accept, yet crucial. Americans must come to understand what has gone wrong and how we changed from a family-oriented and flawed but honorable country to a sex-obsessed and violent one.”
