Dakar is the capital city and largest city of Senegal. It is located on the Cap-Vert Peninsula on the Atlantic coast and is the westernmost city on the African mainland. Its position, on the western edge of Africa, is an advantageous departure point for trans-Atlantic and European trade; this fact aided its growth into a major regional port.
According to December 31, 2005 official estimates, the city of Dakar proper has a population of 1,030,594, whereas the population of the Dakar metropolitan area is estimated at 2.45 million people.
Dakar is a major administrative centre, home to the National Assembly of Senegal and Senegal's President's Palace.
The Cape Verde Peninsula was settled, no later than the 15th century, by the Lebou, an ethnic group related to the neighboring Wolof and Sereer. The original villages: Ouakam, Ngor, Yoff and Hann, still constitute distinctively Lebou neighborhoods of the city today. Meanwhile, in 1444, the Portuguese arrived on the island of Gorée and founded a settlement there. By 1536, they had begun using it as a base for the export of slaves. The mainland of Cap-Vert, however, was under control of the Jolof Empire, as part of the western province of Cayor which seceded from Jolof in its own right in 1549. A new Lebou village, called Ndakaaru, was established directly across from Gorée in the 17th century to service the European trading factory with food and drinking water. Gorée was captured by the United Netherlands in 1588, which gave it its present name (spelled Goeree, after Goeree-Overflakkee in Holland). The island was to switch hands between the Portuguese and Dutch several more times before falling to the English under Admiral Robert Holmes on January 23, 1664, and finally to the French in 1677. Though under continuous French administration since, Métis families, descendant from Dutch and French traders and African wives, dominated the slave trade. The infamous "House of Slaves" was built here in 1776.

Robert W. "Robby" Gordon (born January 2, 1969) is an American racecar driver who currently competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as an owner-driver, driving the No. 7 Mapei Dodge Charger for Robby Gordon Motorsports, and also competes part-time in the Nationwide Series. He has also raced in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Champ Car, Indycar, Trans-Am, IMSA, IROC and Dakar Rally. Gordon is regarded as one of the best road course drivers in NASCAR. Along with Tony Stewart, Joe Nemechek and Michael Waltrip, Gordon participates in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as an owner/driver. He is not related to fellow Sprint Cup driver, Jeff Gordon. Robby and his Robby Gordon Motorsports team are currently[when?] the stars of a reality TV series following the daily operations of his organization called SpeedFactory.tv, while he is also the founder of Speed Energy Drink.

Compartimos el resumen de la Etapa 2 del Rally Dakar 2015 que comprende el recorrido Villa Carlos Paz, Córdoba - San Juan. Con la conducción de Raúl Barceló y Mauricio Gallardo y con Martín Jauregui en vivo en las diferentes escalas.
Los pilotos del Rally Dakar 2015 afrontaron el segundo día de competencia en el tramo Villa Carlos Paz - San Juan, el de la especial más larga del certamen, bajo temperaturas que se anuncian sofocantes. Autos, motos y cuatriciclos fueron cronometrados durante 518 kilómetros de un trayecto que comenzó con superficie dura en caminos que pueden volverse desleales hasta para los más avezados. Luego, llegaron a la etapa de desgaste con escenarios donde dominó el polvo hasta llegar, por fin, a la arena que determinó la parte final del recorrido.
En esta jornada, el español Joan Barreda Bort se adueñó de la punta del Dakar en la categoría motos, al ganar la segunda etapa. El piloto español Marc Coma se ha consagrado como ganador de la séptima edición sudamericana del Dakar.
Tras la llegada en la última especial, la caravana del Dakar brindó su última función en Tecnópolis, la ciudad de las Ciencias de Buenos Aires, donde los pilotos recibieron la última ovación del público argentino, que marcó el epílogo de esta 36ª edición de la carrera más exigente del mundo.
El piloto catalán consiguió su quinto título en dos ruedas y, de esta manera, alcanzó la línea del francés Cyril Despres y quedó a un triunfo del máximo vencedor en motos, el también galo Stephane Peterhansel.
Esta última especial, de apenas 174 kilómetros, fue interrumpida en el kilómetro 101 por lluvias tras la salida desde Rosario, donde Coma fue quinto.
El podio de la clasificación general, detrás del ganador español, lo completaron el portugués Paulo Gonçalves (Honda) y el australiano Toby Price (KTM).
El ganador de la etapa fue el eslovaco Ivan Jakes (KTM), mientras que su compatriota Stefan Svitko (KTM) fue segundo y tercero fue el australiano Toby Price.
El chileno Pablo Quintanilla (Honda) fue el mejor sudamericano de la clasificación general en la cuarta posición, mientras que la española Laia Sanz (Honda) fue novena, tras perder una posición con el eslovaco Ivan Jakes en la última especial.

Nevertheless, quite often the bones of dead animals can be seen close to the geysers as some venture too close and are killed by the hot steam. At an altitude of nearly six thousand metres, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. For most of the time its summit is covered by a dense ring of cloud that gives the mountain an air of mystique. There are few other places on earth that offer the huge variety of nature as does the legendary east of the African continent. A magical destination and a wild natural paradise that is second to none!

Events featured in "Rollin' in Dakar" were held in collaboration with KOA Martial Arts from Stafford Virginia. Five KOA team members trained and competed with local martial artist, while living in the local community and traveled using public transportation, truly experiencing the culture, sights, and sounds, well as the smoldering heat and challenges of living and operating in West Africa.
Hundreds of martial artists and spectators attended BJJ seminars, as well as "flash mob" MMA exhibitions along city streets and beaches. KOA visitors rapidly immersed themselves in the exotic and ancient martial art of Laamb, Senegal's national sport and most popular distraction. Alongside their African counterparts, they competed in both BJJ and Laamb matches during a captivating tournament held on a beach along the Atlantic coast.
