Finally a video for this mashup, from 2008’s Mashopolos II – The Mashening album. I always thought this would make a fun video, what with AC/DC and Van Halen being the greatest rock’n’roll bands of all time and all.

Pink Floyd live at Pompeii has always been one of my favourite live concert films. I’m such a fan I even visited the Amphitheatre of Pompeii while I was traveling through Italy many years ago, just to sit there and listen to Meddle and Saucerful of Secrets on my discman.
Decades later I’m sitting in my kitchen playing the climax of Saucerful (Celestial Vocies) on my iPad… and I start singing Hotel California over the top (always the masher).
And whaddaya know it just worked, every line. Perfect. But are the two songs in the same key? What the hell? They are!!
This could be heaven or this could be hell.

My mashup of The Crystal Method’s ‘Jupiter Shift’ and Iron Maiden’s ‘Seventh Son of a Seventh Son’ finally has a video treatment.
I was actually never an Iron Maiden fan as a kid or teenager. I hated them in fact (thought they were a bit on the puny side of metal, love their artwork though). It was only once I grew up and should have known better that I became a fan, and it was the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album that sealed the deal for me.
Maiden mashups tend to piss off their die hard fans and I trust this will be no exception.
So it shall be written, so it shall be done…

In a moment that has to be heard to believed, John Lennon‘s unforgettable vocal on the Beatles‘ ‘Hard Days Night’ fits perfectly into the crunchy riff of Motley Crue‘s ‘Girls Girls Girls’ from nearly 25 years later. One of the more amazing moments comes when George Harrison‘s original riff is melded with Mick Mars‘ molten solo.

It’s amazing, at this rate, that every possible mash-up hasn’t been made already. And yet, new and fairly excellent combinations of two totally disparate songs continue to emerge, ready to stun and mystify the masses… “A Hard Girls Night” works surprisingly well, especially if you think about how the teens in the Beatles clips were perhaps the mothers of the gyrating ladies in the “Girls Girls Girls” footage. Feminism!
