Bernie Sanders To Give Speech Defining Democratic Socialism
Bernie Sanders is still facing leering questions about whether the American public is actually ready to elect a self-described Democratic Socialist. He would very much like to put those questions to bed. He’s preparing a major speech on this topic. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
“Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said on Sunday he plans to give a major speech soon to explain his belief in democratic socialism, acknowledging the political label could be a stumbling block to winning over American voters.

Why Is The Democratic Party Afraid Of Larry Lessig? (Interview w/ Cenk Uygur)
Lawrence Lessig is running for president as a Democrat, but you wouldn’t know it from watching the first Democratic debate on CNN. Lessig’s solitary focus is on ending the corrosive, corrupting influence of money on the American political system, a position that may be too hot for the Democratic National Committee, which barred Lessig from the first Democratic debate on October 13th in Las Vegas.
In this interview with The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur, Lessig talks about how his quixotic campaign for the presidency is faring, including:
- Why political corruption is THE number one issue that affects all others
- Why the establishment news media d

Is the Democratic Party Lying About Larry Lessig? Interview w/ Cenk Uygur (edited)
Harvard Professor Larry Lessig is running for president with one objective: to root out the corruption that pervades every nearly every aspect of the American political system. He’s raised more money than many other candidates and has met polling benchmarks, yet the Democratic National Committee refuses to #LetLessigDebate.
In this edited portion of an hour-long interview with The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur, Lessig explains the Catch-22 the DNC is using to keep him off the debate stage and how DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz is not telling the truth about why he’s been excluded from the conversation.

The U.S. senator from Vermont, who touted his democratic socialist views in last week’s Democratic presidential debate, said many Americans misunderstand socialism and did not recognize it in popular government programs such as Social Security and Medicare.”*

- Why the establishment news media don’t want to talk about campaign finance reform
- The similarities between American “democracy” and the functioning of the Chinese political system
- President Obama’s rank failure on his campaign promise to change the system
- How political corruption filters down to perpetuate the marginalization and abuse of African-Americans in places like Ferguson, Missouri
- How both the Republican and Democratic parties are really minority parties in the US.
- The duplicity of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s claims about barring Lessig from the debate

The Democratic Debate CONTROVERSY No One Is Talking About
During a Republican debate there are plenty of possibilities when picking the biggest controversy, but the fireworks don't fly as much at the CNN Democratic Debate. Still that shouldn't stop us from trying. Cenk Uygur (The Young Turks), Ben Mankiewicz (What The Flick!?), John Iadarola (Think Tank), and Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show) discuss what the biggest controversy is.
Do you agree with the panel? Let us know in the comments below.

CNN will allow Joe Biden to participate in the first Democratic presidential primary debate, even if the vice-president decides only that day to be a candidate. Since Biden has achieved an average of 1% support in three polls – even though he isn’t a declared candidate – CNN said he needed only to file the necessary paperwork or say he will that day to be in the debate. Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, former Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee, former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley and former Virginia senator Jim Webb have been invited.

Ever since he announced his 2020 run for president at the VMAs last month, Kanye West’s presence has been felt looming over the political arena, and now Yeezy is scheduled to appear at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco on Oct. The primary purpose of this appearance is to perform songs from his upcoming album Swish. The event is described as an "afternoon concert," in order to distinguish it from ordinary fundraisers. Tickets to the DNC event range in price from $250 to $10,000, but the memories will surely be priceless.

Biden eligible for Democratic primary debate: if he decides to run
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden would be invited to participate in the first Democratic presidential primary debate if he announces his intent to run for the office, according to guidelines released on Monday by CNN, which is hosting the event.
Biden meets all but one of the criteria required to participate in the Oct. 13 event, which is sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee. He has not formally declared his intent to run for the office.
So far five Democrats have been invited to participate in the debate: Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee and former Virginia Senator Jim Webb.
Under the criteria CNN released on Monday for participation in the debate, candidates must meet the requirements established in the U.S. Constitution, commit to filing a statement of candidacy with election officials by Oct. 14, have an average of at least 1 percent of support in three national polls and accept the debate rules and format.
Biden has been receiving between 17 percent and 25 percent support in polls over the last 10 days or so. A group of supporters have been encouraging him to run for the presidency, but so far the vice president has yet to formally commit.
Biden, 72, has said he is still coping with the death of his son Beau earlier this year and is not sure whether he is up to the demands of a presidential race.
On MSNBC shortly after CNN's announcement, Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz noted that Biden has passed the required poling threshold in multiple national surveys. But, the Florida congresswoman added: "He's not a candidate."

VLADIMIR PUTIN TO UN: EXPORT OF SO-CALLED DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTIONS CONTINUES GLOBALLY
VLADIMIR PUTIN TO UN: EXPORT OF SO-CALLED DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTIONS CONTINUES GLOBALLY
Russian President Vladimir Putin addresses attendees during the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly at the U.N. Headquarters in New York
The export of the so-called democratic revolutions continues, as the international community fails to learn from mistakes, which have already been made, Russian President Vladimir Putin said addressing the UNGA.
He cited the example of the revolutions in the Middle East, when people wished for change, “but how did that turn out?”
He said that instead of triumph of democracy “we have violence and social disaster,” where no one cares about human rights, including the right to life.
Actions carried out without a UN mandate could destroy the system of international relations, Putin said in his address.
“Russia is ready to work on the basis of broad consensus on the further development of the United Nations with all partners. But we believe that attempts to undermine the authority and legitimacy of the United Nations are extremely dangerous. This can lead to the collapse of the entire architecture of international relations,” Putin said.
In this case there would be no other rules left “but the rule of force,” he warned. The world would be dominated by “selfishness rather than collective work” and characterized by “dictate rather than equality.”

Joe Biden Can Join in Democratic Debate, CNN Says
CNN will allow Joe Biden to participate in the first Democratic presidential primary debate, even if the vice-president decides only that day to be a candidate. Since Biden has achieved an average of 1% support in three polls – even though he isn’t a declared candidate – CNN said he needed only to file the necessary paperwork or say he will that day to be in the debate. Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, former Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee, former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley and former Virginia senator Jim Webb have been invited.

Future President Kanye West to Perform at Democratic Fundraiser
Ever since he announced his 2020 run for president at the VMAs last month, Kanye West’s presence has been felt looming over the political arena, and now Yeezy is scheduled to appear at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco on Oct. The primary purpose of this appearance is to perform songs from his upcoming album Swish. The event is described as an "afternoon concert," in order to distinguish it from ordinary fundraisers. Tickets to the DNC event range in price from $250 to $10,000, but the memories will surely be priceless.

Clinton is addressing a convention of New Hampshire Democrats at the end of a three-day swing through the early primary state.
New Hampshire Democrats have a message for the Democratic National Committee: Bring on more debates.
Activists chanting "We want more debates!" drowned out DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's speech several times at the New Hampshire Democratic Party's convention in Manchester on Saturday morning. Wasserman-Schultz became noticeably frustrated on several occasions. She asked "What's more important? Drawing a contrast with Republicans or arguing about debates?"
In response, the chants continued. Finally, she said, "Enough is enough."
The DNC has sanctioned six debates, but supporters of Martin O'Malley and Bernie Sanders are demanding more. They say the limited number of events is an effort to coronate a nominee. Front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign has said she's open to more debates, but has not called for more.

The Democratic Republic of Congo's Rape Problem
Rape City (2013): Examining the terrible rape problem that afflicts the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
At least 200,000 people have been raped in DRC since 1996. With devastating frankness National Army soldiers confess to raping women and children in the towns they were supposed to be protecting from rebels.

"Raping gave us a lot of pleasure. When we rape we feel free", confesses a Congolese National Army soldier. He admits to raping 53 women and children, some as young as 5 years old. In this endemic cycle of violence, children born of rape are getting raped. According to Ida Sawyer from Human Rights Watch, the army commanders responsible for these horrific abuses are not brought to justice; instead they are often "rewarded and given positions of power and wealth". Efforts are being made to address this state of impunity; those in charge "must be pursued on a criminal level for these serious crimes", says the Military Prosecutor of North Kivu. But with the judicial system mostly fractured and forgotten, the only ones bearing the consequences are the victims. Their faith in the country has plummeted; as one victim says, "our army has looted and raped their own people. Our life in Congo has no meaning".
This report was made with the support of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.
