McCain to Paul: Learn the Senate Rules
The Senate debate on the National Security Agency’s expiring domestic surveillance program got off to a rocky start Sunday afternoon, as Sens. Dan Coats, John McCain and Rand Paul quarreled over debate time preceding procedural votes to reauthorize the program.
With Coats controlling the floor, Paul attempted to claim time, asking the presiding officer repeatedly to state the time remaining before later asking to speak for five minutes. McCain objected to the request, telling the Kentucky Republican to “know the rules of the Senate.”
“Maybe the Senator from Kentucky should know the rules of the Senate,” McCain said.
Paul later received con

Ted Cruz SLAMS McConnell, accuses him of lying on Senate Floor, says he can’t be trusted
Ted Cruz took to the Senate floor Friday and charged that Mitch McConnell told a “lie,” escalating his campaign against GOP leaders and challenging the traditions of the usually decorous chamber. In a scathing floor speech, the Texas firebrand accused the Senate majority leader of breaking his word to him and the rest of the GOP conference over McConnell’s plans for the controversial Export-Import Bank, the country’s chief export credit agency. In Cruz’s telling, McConnell privately promised him and other Republicans that “there was no deal” with a handful of senators who were seeking to revive the bank in exchange for their votes to advance a major trade bill in May. McConnell, he said, became “visibly angry” when Cruz challenged him on the matter during a meeting in May. “Like St. Peter,” Cruz said, “he repeated it three times. He said, ‘The only thing I told the proponents of the Export-Import Bank is like any other senator in this body, they could offer any amendment they liked on an any amendable vehicle, but I gave them nothing.’” That day in late May, Cruz said his staff informed him that McConnell was “lying” to him, but he said he believed the Senate GOP leader that “he wasn’t lying to us.” But after McConnell took procedural steps Friday to move to a proposal to revive the Ex-Im bank, Cruz said on the Senate floor: “I cannot believe he would tell a flat-out lie.” “What we saw today was an absolute demonstration that not only what he told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over again was a simple lie,” said Cruz, a fierce opponent of the bank. “The majority and minority leader, arm-in-arm again, should not team up against the American taxpayers.”Ted Cruz Goes Nuclear on Mitch McConnell In a stunning attack on a leader of his own party, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz accused Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of lying to him and said he couldn’t be trusted.Cruz, a Texan who is running for president but ranks low in early polling, delivered the broadside in a speech on the Senate floor, an extraordinary departure from the norms of Senate behavior that demand courtesy and respect.
t issue are assurances Cruz claimed McConnell, R-Ky., had given that there was no deal to allow a vote to renew the federal Export-Import Bank – a little-known federal agency that has become a rallying cry for conservatives. Cruz rose to deliver his remarks moments after McConnell had lined up a vote on the Export-Import Bank for coming days.
“It saddens me to say this. I sat in my office, I told my staff the majority leader looked me in the eye and looked 54 Republicans in the eye. I cannot believe he would tell a flat-out lie, and I voted based on those assurances that he made to each and every one of us,” Cruz said.
“What we just saw today was an absolute demonstration that not only what he told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over and over again, was a simple lie.”
A spokesman said McConnell would have no response. The majority leader was not on the Senate floor when Cruz issued his attack.
wn.com/Ted Cruz Slams Mcconnell, Accuses Him Of Lying On Senate Floor, Says He Can’T Be Trusted
Paul later received consent to speak for five minutes on the NSA program after forcing the Senate into a live quorum call.

Keynote Address by Senator Susan Collins
"Liberal Arts: A Good Curriculum for Engaged Citizens and Effective Leaders"
Susan Collins
United States Senator
St. Lawrence University
Class of 1975, Government
First elected in 1996, United States Senator Susan Collins from Maine has earned a national reputation as an effective legislator who works across party lines to seek consensus on our nation’s most important issues. This year, she was ranked the most bipartisan member of the U.S. Senate in a non-partisan index by the Lugar Center and Georgetown University. Senator Collins graduated Phi Beta Kappa from St. Lawrence University, a liberal arts college in Canton, New York, and majored in government. With the skills she gained from a liberal arts education, Senator Collins embarked on a life of distinguished public service that now spans five decades. In the U.S. Senate, Senator Collins has been a tireless advocate for education and has consistently supported efforts to help make postsecondary education more accessible and affordable for all families, regardless of income. As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Senator Collins continues to lead efforts to increase funding for Pell Grants and the federal TRIO programs. Having worked at Husson University in Bangor, Maine, Senator Collins saw first-hand how critical these programs are for hardworking families across the country. Senator Collins’ work ethic is further reflected in the fact that, in her 18 years in office, she has never missed a roll call vote.

Not only is he obviously an eight-time champion in boxing, as a humanitarian, what he's given back particularly in his own country, to give back to the people that are much less fortunate, but I've got to commend you Manny, to go in the world of politics, that is really unbelievable. I mean I just think you used to hit people above the belt, now you're getting hit below the belt all the time."

And thank God for giving me strength and good health every day that I can do that. Because of the inspiration that people give to me, especially the Filipino people and the boxing fans all over the world, that's why I'm still here. Keep on fighting and keep on punching and thank you."

STORY: Boxer Manny Pacquiao, who boasts a fight record of 57 wins, six losses and two draws, was at the United Nations on Tuesday (October 13) to receive the Asia Society's Asia Game Changer of the Year Award.
Pacquiao has begun to set his sights outside the ring as he focuses more and more on the political arena.
Already a congressman in the Philippines, the southpaw has launched a campaign for a spot on the 24-seat Senate in Manila with general elections scheduled for late spring in 2016.
"I'm running for Senate this next election in the Philippines," the 36-year-old said.
"I experienced the life that sometimes, we had food, sometimes none. I experienced life where we didn't have shelter. I slept in the streets and that was my life. That's why with my success in life, I will never forget my past from when I was young, and that's why I'm turning back and helping the people with giving them a house and also giving them jobs, giving them free education, healthcare, everything I can help for them, I'm doing that right now."
Though a seat on the Senate is natural springboard to the higher office of president or vice-president, Pacquiao says that running for president of the Philippines is "not in my mind right now."
Before switching full time into politics, however, Pacquiao said he still has one more fight left in him after over 20 years of boxing.
With his shoulder healing properly following surgery to repair an injury suffered in training and exacerbated in his megabout loss to Floyd Mayweather, Jr last May, Pacquiao is setting his sights on a return to the ring in March.
Pacquiao's long-term manager Bob Arum said last month he expected Pacquiao to fight again in February, although Pacquiao is leaving it up to Arum to decide the next opponent.
"I don't know, it depends on my promoter," he said.
"Bob (Arum), I think Bob is here so he knows. I don't know what is in the line."
Asia Society's Asia Game Changer of the Year Award recognizes those making a transformative and positive difference for the future of Asia and the world.

That's why with my success in life, I will never forget my past from when I was young, and that's why I'm turning back and helping the people with giving them a house and also giving them jobs, giving them free education, healthcare, everything I can help for them, I'm doing that right now. And thank God for giving me strength and good health every day that I can do that. Because of the inspiration that people give to me, especially the Filipino people and the boxing fans all over the world, that's why I'm still here. Keep on fighting and keep on punching and thank you."
11. VARIOUS OF PACQUIAO POSING FOR PHOTOS

British Member of Parliament George Galloway testified at a hearing on how Saddam Hussein manipulated the United Nations' Oil-for-Food Program to win influence and reward friends in order to undermine sanctions imposed on Iraq following the Persian Gulf War. A committee report on alleged abuses of the program had named Minister Galloway as one of several foreign officials who had received lucrative oil allocations in the scheme. Mr. Galloway harshly criticized the report and challenged members to produce evidence of the allegations. He also broadly criticized U.S. policy in Iraq and the decision to use military power to oust the

Iyan ang nagpapatunay na, if you are a person with high conviction, people respects and look high at you, Mayor Duterte mesmerise the whole senate hearing by attending and answers their questions point blank without hesitations, walang takot, walang kiyeme, direct to the point, natulala ang Senado, NOWADAYS, WHO ELSE COULD DO THAT? One more thing, first, it was comm kim henares who asked for mayor Dutertes help and now, the senators are asking Mayor Duterte on how to solve the problem and his advise. That must be something, di ba? Eto pa, Senator Grace Poe is hinting about a body that will be handling the integrated intelligence from Military, NBI, Police, Customs, Coast Guard and the Private Sector. Kasi ngayon, walang integration of intelligence. Si Mayor Duterte lang nakagagawa noon. He had a list of names na sana, the national agencies will act on it. Walastik, Mayor lang po yan. Bravo Mayor Duterte.... I salute you and again you make us proud..... Sad thing though, a demolition job against you will be expected soon. But who cares, Grateful Davaoenos will be all over defending and behind you. Stay focus and keep up the good work. Again Congrats po Mayor...... I hope you will serve as an inspiration at pamarisan kayo ng mga taong nakaupo sa pwesto. I Salute you sir, Bigtime.

George Galloway Senate Testimony (FULL)
May 17, 2005
British Member of Parliament George Galloway testified at a hearing on how Saddam Hussein manipulated the United Nations' Oil-for-Food Program to win influence and reward friends in order to undermine sanctions imposed on Iraq following the Persian Gulf War. A committee report on alleged abuses of the program had named Minister Galloway as one of several foreign officials who had received lucrative oil allocations in the scheme. Mr. Galloway harshly criticized the report and challenged members to produce evidence of the allegations. He also broadly criticized U.S. policy in Iraq and the decision to use military power to oust the Hussein government. This is not a complete record of the hearing, but contains Mr. Galloway's opening statement in its entirety.
