Probably one of the most famous things to do in Taipei is go to the Taipei 101, which is the tallest and most iconic building in the city. On the first few floors of the Taipei 101 is a luxury mall, but the most popular attraction is the Taipei 101 Observatory, which is located on the 89th and 91st floors. The entrance price is a pretty steep cost of 500 Taiwan Dollars, but it’s a popular thing to do and I wanted to check it out during out trip. We arrived in the morning, right after they opened at about 9 am, bought our tickets, and went to the elevator to go to the top of the building. The elevator ride, which they claim is the fastest elevator in the world, was quite amazingly fast. It felt like it only took about 10 seconds but in reality it actually took about 40 seconds - but to get to the 89th floor, it was still incredibly fast. Once at the top, it was mostly just an observatory set up specifically for tourists, but still worth it for the amazing views of Taipei city and the surrounding mountains.
After going to the Taipei 101 Observatory, we came down, and there happens to be a branch of Din Tai Fung, the famous Taiwanese soup dumplings restaurant at the Taipei 101. Luckily we arrived quite early when the restaurant wasn’t too busy, so we happen to get seats easily for lunch. I made a separate full video about eating at Din Tai Fung, which I’ll post later.
After lunch, since were were still near the Taipei 101, we decided to go to Elephant Hill, a mountain near Taipei 101 where there are some hiking and nature trails. After figuring out which trail to take, we took a staircase trail, which was well marked out to Elephant Hill. The walk didn’t take more than about 20 minutes, and once we arrived at the Elephant Hill lookout point, we could see the entire skyline of Taipei, but a much different perspective of Taipei from the Taipei 101 Observatory. It was good to see and I enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere and the different perspective of the skyline from the mountain. I would highly recommend going to Elephant Hill when you’re in Taipei.
Next, we rushed off to the Taipei Zoo, one of the largest and most developed zoos in Asia. The price was only 60 TWD, and it was very nice to just spend some time walking around and enjoying both the animals and the impressively lush and tropical zoo grounds. I think the Taipei zoo is one of the great things to do if you have kids, or even you can go just to walk around and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. After the Taipei zoo, we wanted to go to the Maokong Gondola, but due to stormy weather, the Gondola closed, so we had to change our plans.
From the Taipei Zoo, we headed back to the Dongmen area and had a snack of a famous Taiwanese shaved ice, and then we had dinner at a local restaurant.
That was it for Day 4 in Taiwan - pretty cool to have a chance to visit the Taipei 101 Observatory.

Every Thursday, the Ingress Report is your source for all the latest on the Niantic Project. Enlightened? Resistance? Susanna Moyer is your unbiased expert for movements from both factions.
This week:
From New Orleans, Susanna Moyer reports on the first day of #Abaddon XM Anomalies, which swept across New Taipei City, Bangkok, Manila and Sydney, followed by Hamburg, Edinburgh, Seville and Zagreb and finally New Orleans, Charlotte, Guatemala City and Pittsburgh.
The day was marked with intense competition between thousands of Agents on the ground, epic Shard Operations and incredible Fielding efforts. When the dust settled, the Enlightened emerged with a victory in hand, gaining control of Dr. Oliver Lynton-Wolfe. The Resistance gained two victories, taking control of Dr. Victor Kureze and Dr. Martin Schubert. However, with three XM Anomalies remaining in December, much remains at hand as we race towards the #Abaddon Finale. The fates of ADA, Roland Jarvis and Ezekiel Calvin hang in the balance.
In New Orleans, Agents participated in GORUCK Spec-Op Training exercises to earn Volatile Portal intel for their Factions, and in both Hamburg and New Orleans, Agents took part in Ingress #MissionDays, exploring the charm and history of these beautiful cities.
From New Taipei City, a message from Oliver Lynton-Wolfe emerged on the ground. In Hamburg, Klue's search for a lost page of Carrie Campbell's 'Voynich' journal struck paydirt, and in New Orleans, Hank Johnson pursued a lost story possibly penned by Robert E. Howard that could shed light on the history of Anti-Magnus.
In Lyon, France and Khabarovsk, Russia, Cross-Faction groups of Agents engaged in incredible Field Art Operations.
A new medal, the Vanguard, will be made available to L3+ Agents across the world to mark the 3rd year of the Ingress Scanner App.
And news has just emerged of a live investigation hangout with the founder of Operation: Essex, Dr. Edgar Allan Wright, which will take place on Tuesday of next week.
The next #Abaddon Anomalies are approaching rapidly, find more details at ingress.com/events. The next Ingress First Saturday is just around the corner, on December 5th. Stay tuned for details.

I was lucky enough that from a young age, my parents took us all over the place, instilling in us a sense of larger spaces and broadened horizons. As I grew up, I became more independent in my travels and tried to figure out ways to do it more. From learning Spanish in Salamanca to purposefully getting 6 month summer jobs in places I wanted to explore further.

I have always loved travelling.
I became accustomed to getting lost and just wondering the streets, figuring out where would be the next good meal or when I would stumble onto some secret only locals whispered about. Getting lost was second nature back then. The only resources we had were over-read guide books that by the time you reached their recommendations, the waiters would push their best sellers down your throats.
So we had to resort to friend recommendations, what blog resources were up on the internet, guide books, conversations with strangers and your hotel concierge. Nowadays in our hyper connected world, everyone is an expert and there are so many sites that claim that this restaurants, trumps this bar, which is passé and now is considered touristy by pretty much everyone. Honestly, for me, good is good, so that’s what I base myself on.
For every family or friend trip we would take, I became the defacto research guide. Skimming through websites in English and in the language of destination, guide books, personal blogs, Instagram hashtags, geotags and anything else social media would allow me to delve into. Finally, being able to create a snap shot of the city, its districts and where to eat, sleep, drink, party or learn about the culture.
This is what Overnight is about.

https://www.expedia.com/Taipei.d180030.Destination-Travel-Guides
Taipei is the glittering capital of Taiwan, and one of the hottest travel destinations in all of Asia. When you visit this thriving city, you’ll find collections of stunning futuristic buildings interspersed with ancient Chinese temples and traditions.
One of these temples, Longshan, is located in Wanhua, the city’s oldest neighborhood. This is where you come to find good fortune, good health, and spiritual advice of all sorts. Once you’ve attained the guidance and wisdom you may not have realized you sought, head to 228 Peace Park, where you will find the memorial to the 1949 uprisings that eventually led to Taiwan’s independence.
Don’t worry about getting around the city; the Taipei Rapid Transit System, or MRT, will take you just about anywhere you need to go. Hop on it to pay a visit to the National Palace Museum, where you’ll find a giant collection of Chinese art and artifacts. There’s over half a million pieces related to ancient Chinese royalty here, and you can spend days exploring them all.
To plan out your next move, make your way to Taipei 101. This is one of the world’s tallest buildings, and you can soar to the top for a breathtaking view of the city and pick out the next place you’ll visit. Do you see Elephant Mountain? It’s not far from the downtown area, and it’s a short climb to the top for another look at Taipei. Keep up with the nature theme and make your stop the Taipei Zoo, where you’ll meet the largest menagerie of animals in Asia.
Cap off a day of Taipei sightseeing and adventure at Shilin Night Market, where you can join the locals in finding that next great meal or landing a spectacular bargain.
What will you do in Taipei?

SNAPCHAT / INSTAGRAM: migrationology | Free food guide: http://migrationology.com/41-irresistible-meals/
This is the vlog of Day 1 of our Taiwan trip (stay tuned for all 12 days of vlogs). We woke up early in the morning in Bangkok and headed to Don Muaeng Airport. We checked into our flight via Tiger Air that offers a directly flight at a pretty good rate from Bangkok to Taipei. Everything went smoothly and our flight arrived on time. They didn’t serve any food on our airplane, but luckily as I was doing some work, my wife Ying went and bought some Subway for the airplane ride. So while I didn’t have airplane food this time, I did have Subway on an airplane.
We landed in Taipei, Taiwan, my first time to ever visit Taiwan in the early afternoon, and I had little clue how we were going to get from the airport to the center of Taipei and then on to our hotel. We ended up walking down stairs where we caught a shuttle bus from Taoyuan International Airport for 30 TWD to the Taoyuan train station in order to connect with the Taiwan high speed rail that would take us into the center of Taipei. From Taoyuan railway station we took the high speed rail which cost 165 TWD and in about 20 minutes we arrived at Taipei Main station, which is the major hub of transportation in the center of Taipei. From there we caught the local Metro to Ximen station, where our hotel was booked. After wandering around for a little while and getting a bit lost, we finally arrived into our hotel, called Go Sleep Hotel and the Xining branch, located right within the busy shopping and cultural district of Ximending in Taipei. We arrive to the hotel at about 6 pm almost and we were all very hungry and wanted to have our first meal in Taipei… but I had no idea what we were going to eat.
After walking around Ximending for a few minutes we sat down at the nearest restaurant we could find that was serving local Taiwanese food. Although I didn’t really know what we were ordering, the owner of the restaurant was very nice and after pointing to a few dishes, she kindly brought them to our table. Our first meal in Taipei, Taiwan was a success. From there we just walked around Ximending for a while, enjoying the atmosphere and sampling a few snacks along the way. There was so much food in this area, that is was crazy, so much to eat!
Thank you for watching this Taipei travel guide video vlog from Bangkok to Taipei. This is Day 1 of our Taiwan travel adventure.

Good day people! So I know in order to tour around Taiwan, it is almost always to come through Taipei Main Station because this is where everything transit from one another from Metro to High Speed Rail. But seriously, let's admit that Taipei Main Station really isn't anything spectacular to look at in terms of architecture.
The true treasure of this tourist destination is really inside the station. It is simply the BEST PLACE of all Taiwan for tourists to gather souvenirs because they've scouted all and every speciality from all counties. Well I mean "food souvenirs", yes in Asia when people travel they like to bring snacky souvenirs home to their friends, family and coworkers.
Not to mention the food court which takes up the entire second floor, it is simply HUGE and the king of all food courts because it is just so pretty and covers all kinds of food (well maybe not all kinds, but a lot already compared!) You seriously can't leave without having a bite of things because the aroma is just too delicious!
Anyway, thanks for watching stay warm! xx

Come discover Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s busiest harbor. Located in southwestern Taiwan, this city boasts scenic seaside spots, magnificent mountain views, and a captivating culture.
Begin your journey on the island of Cijin, and visit Tianhou Temple, where Matzu, the protector of fishermen and sailors, is honored. Next, head further inland and hike the trails at Monkey Mountain; have a spot of tea with a view of the city as monkeys swing overhead from the treetops. Other popular attractions include Love River, which offers scenic pathways that run through the city, and Lotus Lake, where the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas are said to give visitors good luck. At the lake, honor the Goddess of Mercy and God of War, and marvel at the massive statue of the Mysterious Warrior, Xuan Wu. After visiting Lotus Lake, don’t miss the nearby Tianfu Palace and Taiwan’s largest Confucian Temple.
Round the day off with a jaunt to the Liuhe Night Market. As one of the largest markets in Asia, these open-air stalls serve up the freshest seafood around.
Whether you’re looking to pay your respects to the gods or find a quiet spot on the harbor with a view, check out our Kaohsiung travel guide for more travel tips and inspiration.

Travel video about destination Taiwan.
Taiwan, the Beautiful Island or, ‘Ilha Formosa’: a land of gods, spirits and temples - an island at the end of a rainbow! This south east Asian island is separated from the Chinese mainland by the Formosa Strait that at its narrowest point is a hundred and thirty kilometres wide. Taipei is a pulsating metropolis in the north of the island in which emperors’ treasures and chaotic traffic highlight both industrial strength and a Chinese way of life. In the old town district of Wan Hua is the city’s oldest and most precious Buddhist temple of Lungshan Szu, the Dragon Mountain Temple. The Sun Yi Sen Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the centenary of the founder of the Republic of China. His efforts brought about the abdication of the last emperor and the birth of the Republic Of China. The Confucius Temple is a place of contemplation and is a replica of the Temple Of Qu Fu, Qu Fu having been the home town of Confucius. This silent place is one of five temples in Taiwan dedicated to the great Chinese philosopher, Confucius, the founder of a religion that even today has many followers. The past importance of the former Taiwanese capital of Tainan is indicated by the city’s many temple complexes that contain an abundance of sacred works of art. Religion still plays a central role in the daily life of the people and the Tien Gon Temple is the most important temple in Taiwan. Taiwan is an island full of magical charm, fascinating works of art and breathtaking natural wonders. The legacy of Confucius mixed with the bright hope of the future. A symbiosis of industrialisation and Chinese tradition. The success of capitalism confirmed by the eternal words, “Made in Taiwan“!

https://www.expedia.com/Hong-Kong.d178263.Destination-Travel-Guides
Hong Kong, a former British territory, is one of the most densely populated places in China and in the world. You’ll find quiet neighborhoods full of temples and a dazzling skyline loaded with shopping and dining opportunities.
Your Hong Kong tour must include visits to the many religious sites scattered around the city, where incense wafts from shrines and monasteries take over entire hillsides. You’ll have a marvelous time shopping in tax-free Hong Kong, where you’ll be able to find clothing, jewelry, furniture, and everything else under the sun.
Don’t forget about Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, which overlooks the stunning Victoria Harbor. From there, your Hong Kong sightseeing may detour to Central, the city’s main business district, which looks like something out of a sci-fi film. The observation deck atop the International Commerce Centre will show you fantastic views of the city.
Hong Kong isn’t all cityscape, of course; there are many gardens, parks, and other green spaces for you to explore. You’ll also find beaches, national parks, and quiet islands for you to indulge in natural beauty and serenity. This city truly has everything.
Visit our Hong Kong travel guide page for more information or to plan your next vacation!

Taipei 101 is an engineering marvel and the first building of its kind in the world. Spanning 101 stories above the ground at 508 metres, the building was designed as a symbol of technology's evolution fused with Asian tradition. The building features many pan-Chinese and Asian elements mixed with a postmodern style, and is designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes common in Taiwan.
Besides the tower, the base of the building houses a multi-level shopping mall, food court, various restaurants and stores (including Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐), and an international grocery store.
The double-deck elevators installed in Taipei 101 set a record in 2004 by traveling 60.6 km/h, lifting visitors to the observation deck at the top in only 37 seconds.
Take a trip to the top of 101 by purchasing a ticket inside the mall for NT$500, granting access to the observation deck and museum where visitors can learn about this technical and architectural wonder, as well as get a first-hand look at the tuned mass damper located at the core of the tower that keeps the building from swaying. It's a fascinating piece of technology, and visitors are allowed to view up close.
How to Get there:
By MRT:
Take the Red Line 2 (Xiangshan train) to Taipei 101 station (台北101). Alternatively, take the Blue Line 5 to Taipei City Hall Station (市政府), located beneath HanKyu Department Store. Walk south to enter the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (新光三越) complex (known as the Xinyi Shopping District) towards 101. Being as tall as it is, you will definitely see it along the skyline.

Widely known as the most scenic spot in Taipei to drink quality, locally grown tea, Maokong is a quaint village located at the top of a mountain providing breathtaking views of Taipei City.
Tea aficionados will enjoy Maokong for its wide variety of teahouses and high quality selection, while others looking for a relaxing break from the busy city can sit back with a cup of tea and nice dinner, all while taking in the beautiful views of Taipei.
The best way to reach Maokong is to take the Maokong Gondola scenic cable car up the mountain from MRT Taipei Zoo Station, NT$50 each way, with each adult allowed up to 2 children for free.
The Maokong Gondola was built in 2007 and retrofitted with Crystal Cabins (glass-bottom cars) in 2010 to provide more viewing angles and opportunities, also lowering the service interval to 3 minutes per car.
While the tea houses and shops on Maokong are open according to their own schedules, gondola service is contingent upon the weather situation for safety reasons, however is generally open from 8:30AM to 9PM (10PM on Fri & Sat).
How to get there:
By MRT:
Take the Brown Line 1 to the terminus station, Taipei Zoo (動物園). Transfer to the Maokong Gondola, a cable-car service that climbs up the mountain to the peak at Maokong.
By Bus:
Bus S10 operates between MRT Taipei Zoo and the peak at Maokong, with a stop at National Chengchi University (國立政治大學).
