Caitlin Sommers can’t remember how she ended up in a strange car with a bagful of prosthetic hands, and she certainly doesn’t know why she’s covered in blood. Needless to say, when I first read this opening scene, I couldn’t put down my Kindle until I’d learned—right alongside protagonist Caitlin—the truth behind her missing memories. Where had she been for seven whole months, how had she gotten into this situation…and whose blood was it?
I don’t want to say too much, as half the fun of this compelling story is discovering Caitlin’s secrets. Caitlin herself is a huge part of what makes this book work. She doesn’t know where she’s been or what she may have done, but she’s determined to find out and face the consequences. Despite the uncertainty, despite the fact that she may be confronted with ugly truths, Caitlin has to know.
And that impulse to question—that urge to peek behind the closet door, shine a flashlight into the shadows, pick up the rock to see what squirming horror might be nestled underneath—is a quality I share with Caitlin. It’s part of why I love reading crime fiction!
Care to join Caitlin and me in kicking over a couple rocks?
After pursuing careers in screenwriting and later the law, bestselling author James Hankins committed himself to writing fiction and has written four popular thrillers—Shady Cross, Brothers and Bones, Jack of Spades, and Drawn—each of which became Amazon #1 bestsellers. Additionally, Brothers and Bones received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews and was named to its list of Best Books of 2013. Hankins lives with his wife and twin sons just north of Boston. He can be reached through his website at www.jameshankinsbooks.com.
Bestselling author James Hankins pursued writing at an early age. While attending NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, he received the Chris Columbus Screenwriting Award. After career detours into screenwriting, health administration, and the law, Hankins recommitted himself to writing fiction. All four of his books (SHADY CROSS, BROTHERS AND BONES, JACK OF SPADES, and DRAWN) spent time in the Kindle Top 100 and became Amazon #1 bestsellers, while BROTHERS received a coveted starred review from Kirkus Reviews and was named to their list of Best Books of 2013.

Multiple Mysteries - Check.. Suspense - Check.. From the beginning until the end.... Thriller - Double Check!!
As soon as I saw I - 91 appearing in the book, I knew the setting for this one was close to my home. And, that piqued my curiosity even more. Home for Caitlin Sommers was in Bristol, NH, but the majority of the story occurs in Smithfield, MA. And, what an incredible story this is from page one until the end.
Just about the time I thought I had a portion of it figured out, I admit that I was 100% wrong. And, my deductive reasoning (s) did not help for the remainder of the book either. An excellent plot fueled by some interesting characters makes this one a real page turner. And, the development of the characters is superb including both the good guys and the evil ones. The writing style is smooth and flows easily and the descriptive portions will make one cringe at times. One thing that I really enjoyed was the two strong female characters....Caitlin and Detective Charlotte Hunnsaker.
Humor is interjected throughout the book to allow the readers an opportunity to catch their breaths. After I finished reading this book I kept thinking of a title that would be appropriate. I decided on 'Like Father, Like Sons'. Mr. Hankins has delved deeply into the minds of two generations with ease and also described in detail the manner in which a traumatic event affects a person.
Most highly recommended and for multiple reasons.
Edited to reflect that this is my Kindle First Selection for September..

This book was a Kindle First choice for September, it was listed as a thriller and it is. It could be listed as a psychological thriller; Caitlyn is a very mysterious character- not only to herself, but to those she is close to.
I can't say too much about the story without injecting spoilers. Things start happening right from the first chapters, everything keeps building on her amnesia. The story delves into Caitlyn's past, present and future.
There are many twists and turns, keeps you guessing all the way to the end. Very good book, I will be reading more by Mr Hankins.

Wow! What a ride this turned out to be for not only the main character but for both the men in her life. From the moment she wakes up in a warehouse parking lot to the very last page, I was hooked. Will definitely be looking for more of James Hankins' books!

When they said this was a thriller, they meant it! This book kept my attention and my tushy on the edge of my seat! I read this as my Kindle First selection of this month and I was very impressed... I had not previously read James Hankins and I actually tend to lean more towards horror and sci-fi, so I was surprised at out well this author snagged my attention and I really liked that I had difficulty figuring it out (many mystery books aren't much of a mystery at all). I am not one to offer a plot synopsis (you can read the book description above), as they occasionally give away important details, but I can say that this book offers mystery and thrills in spades. The psychological components were believable, character development outstanding, and pacing was spot-on. I highly recommend!

I picked this book as my Kindle First selection for September 2015 and I enjoyed the book. Though it wasn't particularly enthralling, the story was fine and entertaining enough. The heroine was a relatable character and I liked how the author handled the amnesia aspect of the story. Things were believable, even though I felt that the book was drawn out longer than it should have been. Overall, if you enjoy a decent mystery book with a hint (in this case, a memory) of romance, you might enjoy this book. The - 1.5 stars is for the length of the book (I felt it could be shorter) and for its rather choppy style and dialogue (it could have flowed more eloquently). Give this book a shot if you're looking for a relatively calm mystery novel.
