Colombo (Sinhala: කොළඹ, pronounced [ˈkoləmbə]; Tamil: கொழும்பு) is the largest city of Sri Lanka. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, the capital of Sri Lanka. Colombo is often referred to as the capital of the country, since Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte is a satellite city of Colombo. Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins and a population of 647,100. The Colombo Metropolitan Region, defined by the districts of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara, has an estimated population of 5,648,000, and covers an area of 3,694.20 km². As per the Provincial Gross Domestic Product-2010, The Western Province, which includes the cities of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara recorded GDP per capita of USD 3,808, the highest recorded GDP per capita for any region in South Asia. It was formerly the political capital of Sri Lanka, before Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte.
Due to its large harbour and its strategic position along the East-West sea trade routes, Colombo was known to ancient traders 2,000 years ago. It was made the capital of the island when Sri Lanka was ceded to the British Empire in 1815, and its status as capital was retained when the nation became independent in 1948. In 1978, when administrative functions were moved to Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, Colombo was designated as the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.

Plot

Plot

Plot
Misadventures of Colombo, an engineer in Milano. He is the only winner of an admission test for a job, and just for this reason he isn't hired. So he becomes a barman, and he discovers a special formula that turns simple water into the "Immortality drink". He is robbed of the magic water copyright. So he tries to set up a theatrical company, but the first show is a fiasco. Since finding a normal job seems a mission impossible, he tries to set the sentimental side of his life. He targets the most beautiful girl of his building, and for her he builds a robot able to dance like Tony Manero ('John Travolta' (qv)'s character in _Saturday Night Fever (1977)_ (qv)). The robot gets drunk (!). It is another fiasco. So he targets an ugly girl and finally with her succeeds to live his surreal world for ever.

Plot
A boorish, snobish toothpaste factory owner, Constantino Nicosia, gives his wife and everyone a hard time having let success and wealth go to his head. But after the superticous Nicosia has an encounter with an elderly gypsy aunt, and a business trip to Romania results in another encounter with a suave vampire, named Count Dragalescu, Nicosia returns with blood-sucking like qualities which makes him re-examine his life and existence.

El expresidente Uribe llegó a Cúcuta para escuchar a los colombianos que han sido deportados de Venezuela y los afectados por el cierre de la frontera.
El expresidente Álvaro Uribe afirmó en la frontera con Venezuela que Nicolás Maduro infunde contra los colombianos un odio comparable al de Hitler contra los judíos, y por eso casi un millar de ciudadanos han sido deportados en cuatro días.
"Así como Hitler infundió odio contra los judíos diciendo que eran la base del mal y una raza inferior y todo terminó con el asesinato de seis millones de judíos, la dictadura castro-chavista de Venezuela está dedicada a infundir odio contra el pueblo colombiano llamando a nuestras mujeres prostitutas y a nuestros compatriotas paramilitares", dijo Uribe en un discurso desde el puente que une Colombia y Venezuela en Cúcuta.
En el discurso, que fue apoyado por centenares de personas que permanecen en el puente que fue cerrado en la medianoche del pasado miércoles, el exmandatario mostró su solidaridad con los al menos 861 colombianos que han sido deportados desde Venezuela en los últimos días, cuando Maduro decretó un estado de excepción en parte del estado fronterizo de Táchira.
Asimismo, envió un pedido a la comunidad internacional y al Gobierno de Colombia para que intervengan ante esta situación.
En opinión del senador Uribe, los ciudadanos colombianos deportados han sido "despojados en su pobreza humillada", puesto que muchos de ellos han tenido que dejar Venezuela sin llevar ninguna de sus propiedades y tienen "sus casas marcadas como jaulas de animales".
Además, expresó su solidaridad con los venezolanos de la oposición "torturados y encarcelados".
"Esta es una voz de alerta, ahora nuestra preocupación es cuánto va a durar la dictadura castro-chavista de Venezuela", afirmó Uribe, que recordó que los gulags soviéticos estuvieron presentes durante más de 70 años.
Durante su discurso, Uribe abogó por "una frontera libre" en el que haya "libre tránsito de personas trabajadoras" y recordó que Colombia es signatario de tratados internacionales que dicen que "ningún país en ejercicio de soberanía puede tratar injustamente a los ciudadanos de otro".
Tras el cierre de la frontera, la canciller María Ángela Holguín afirmó el pasado jueves que esa era una "decisión soberana".
Posteriormente, el Gobierno ha endurecido su posición y ha pedido que se "respete la integridad y los derechos humanos" de los colombianos que viven en Venezuela.
Uribe hizo un llamado a la comunidad internacional y a los delegados y observadores para que vayan a las elecciones parlamentarias que celebrarán en Venezuela en diciembre "no como turistas que visitan Caracas", sino para trabajar y revelar las posibles irregularidades que puedan darse.

Diego D'Pablos, periodista NTN24 en Cúcuta, ciudad colombiana fronteriza con Venezuela, informó este sábado que la situación en la zona es de "desolación total" tras el anuncio de estado de excepción decretado por Nicolás Maduro.
Repudio e inconformismo ha generado entre los habitantes de la región esta nueva decisión del mandatario venezolano, según señala D'Pablos. Asimismo, los afectados le piden a Maduro que levante la medida para poder regresar a sus lugares de origen.
Hasta el momento no se ha registrado ninguna alteración del orden público en la zona.

Elephant care

The orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Young elephants sometimes fall into pits and ravines in their quest for water during drought period. Other orphans have been displaced from their wild habitat by development projects or have been found abandoned before weaning, diseased or wounded.
There are 48 mahouts (handlers) who take care of the elephants. The female and young elephants in Pinnawala range freely as a herd during the day in an area of a few acres. They are herded about .5 km (0.31 mi) twice a day to drink and be bathed in the river. At night, the females are individually chained in stalls. Adult males are do some light work such as transporting feed. They are chained and managed individually. Calves born in Pinnawala are not bottle fed, but a few from ETH are kept at Pinnawala and bottle fed as a tourist attraction.
The elephants are fed in their stalls. There is very little food they can gather from the premises of the orphanage except some grass. Large quantities of jackfruit, coconut, kitul (sugar palm), tamarind and grass, brought in daily, form the bulk of the elephants food.[5] Each adult animal is given around 250 kilograms (550 lb) of this green matter per day and around 2 kg (4.4 lb) from a food bag containing rice bran and maize.

While traveling the country for more than 2 weeks I discovered a new side of the island almost every day. I have been in Sri Lanka for a video production and got to see and experience a lot in a comparably short amount of time.
Accompanied by local guides and wildlife experts I visited several places all over the country: from Colombo through the center where I saw the lion rock Sigiriya, the Kaudulla National Park and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Then I headed to Trincomalee & Pigeon Island in the north-east, afterwards I flew back and went to the south coast and continued to the Yala National Park as well as the highlands in Kandy.
This way I came to see the best of Sri Lanka!

Presionado por las críticas sobre su gestión de la crisis en la frontera con Venezuela, el presidente de Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, se ha reafirmado en su postura de buscar una salida por la vía diplomática y del diálogo con las autoridades del país vecino. “No es momento de hacer sonar las trompetas de guerra que algunos quisieran escuchar”, ha asegurado Santos durante una alocución retransmitida a todo el país.
“Es momento de obrar con firmeza, con sensatez y eficacia para solucionar esta situación y defender las vidas y la dignidad de nuestros compatriotas”, ha insistido el mandatario colombiano, quien, por primera vez se ha referido al comportamiento del Gobierno de Venezuela con la deportación de más de un millar de personas: “Exigimos respeto por todos los colombianos: desde los más humildes hasta los más poderosos; desde los más cercanos a nuestro Gobierno hasta los que nos critican ferozmente”.
“Respeto y dignidad” ha exigido en varias ocasiones Santos durante su intervención, en la que también se ha recibido al proceder de las autoridades venezolanas a la hora de deportar a ciudadanos colombianos: “Allanar las viviendas, sacar a la fuerza a los habitantes, separar a las familias, no dejarles sacar sus pocos bienes y marcar las casas para luego demolerlas, son procedimientos totalmente inaceptables y recuerdan episodios amargos de la humanidad que no pueden repetirse”.
Nadie duda que la crisis fronteriza, derivada ya en crisis humanitaria, tiene un trasfondo electoral. Venezuela celebrará unas importantes elecciones parlamentarias el próximo 6 de diciembre, mientras que Colombia hará lo propio en los comicios regionales del 25 de octubre. Sobre la repercusión que esta situación pueda tener en las urnas, Santos ha lamentado: “Qué triste ver que esta situación es utilizada en ambos países para promover intereses políticos, que buscan pescar en río revuelto, teniendo en cuenta la proximidad de las elecciones”.
Poco después de la intervención de Santos, el presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro, intentó eludir el tema de la crisis fronteriza durante su programa semanal, En contacto con Maduro, transmitido desde Caracas. No obstante, se mostró confiado en que la canciller colombiana, María Ángela Holguín, tenga la paciencia para escuchar este miércoles en Cartagena las “duras verdades” que le trasladará su homóloga venezolana, Delcy Rodríguez, en la reunión que tienen prevista para dar una salida a la crisis. Advirtió que “apenas acaba de empezar la respuesta de Venezuela al paramilitarismo colombiano” y anunció el inicio este miércoles de un censo en los seis distritos del limítrofe estado de Táchira donde rige desde el viernes en la noche un Estado de Excepción, “para saber qué es de quién, dónde están los almacenes, dónde están los recursos” y neutralizar a contrabandistas e ilegales.
Así mismo, el sucesor de Hugo Chávez dijo que incentivará la conformación de un “poderoso movimiento” de colombianos “honestos”, residentes en Venezuela, que exprese su apoyo a las medidas que viene adoptando el régimen chavista en los linderos binacionales.

Presionado por las críticas sobre su gestión de la crisis en la frontera con Venezuela, el presidente de Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, se ha reafirmado en su postura de buscar una salida por la vía diplomática y del diálogo con las autoridades del país vecino. “No es momento de hacer sonar las trompetas de guerra que algunos quisieran escuchar”, ha asegurado Santos durante una alocución retransmitida a todo el país.
“Es momento de obrar con firmeza, con sensatez y eficacia para solucionar esta situación y defender las vidas y la dignidad de nuestros compatriotas”, ha insistido el mandatario colombiano, quien, por primera vez se ha referido al comportamiento del Gobierno de Venezuela con la deportación de más de un millar de personas: “Exigimos respeto por todos los colombianos: desde los más humildes hasta los más poderosos; desde los más cercanos a nuestro Gobierno hasta los que nos critican ferozmente”.
“Respeto y dignidad” ha exigido en varias ocasiones Santos durante su intervención, en la que también se ha recibido al proceder de las autoridades venezolanas a la hora de deportar a ciudadanos colombianos: “Allanar las viviendas, sacar a la fuerza a los habitantes, separar a las familias, no dejarles sacar sus pocos bienes y marcar las casas para luego demolerlas, son procedimientos totalmente inaceptables y recuerdan episodios amargos de la humanidad que no pueden repetirse”.
Nadie duda que la crisis fronteriza, derivada ya en crisis humanitaria, tiene un trasfondo electoral. Venezuela celebrará unas importantes elecciones parlamentarias el próximo 6 de diciembre, mientras que Colombia hará lo propio en los comicios regionales del 25 de octubre. Sobre la repercusión que esta situación pueda tener en las urnas, Santos ha lamentado: “Qué triste ver que esta situación es utilizada en ambos países para promover intereses políticos, que buscan pescar en río revuelto, teniendo en cuenta la proximidad de las elecciones”.
Poco después de la intervención de Santos, el presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro, intentó eludir el tema de la crisis fronteriza durante su programa semanal, En contacto con Maduro, transmitido desde Caracas. No obstante, se mostró confiado en que la canciller colombiana, María Ángela Holguín, tenga la paciencia para escuchar este miércoles en Cartagena las “duras verdades” que le trasladará su homóloga venezolana, Delcy Rodríguez, en la reunión que tienen prevista para dar una salida a la crisis. Los Llanos son una región del norte de Sudamérica repartida entre Venezuela y Colombia en la cuenca del Orinoco. Es un ecosistema parte del Global 200, ecosistemas prioritarios para la conservación por el World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Tiene dos estaciones marcadas, la estación de lluvia y la estación de sequía, se caracteriza por sus extensas sabanas, su clima es intertropical de sabana (en la clasificación climática de Köppen siendo húmedo y caluroso, exceptuando en los llanos altos con clima más suave), con altas temperaturas en general. La región por situarse al interior y por lo tanto de ausencia de influencia marítima permite una mayor amplitud térmica diaria que en zonas costeras, las temperaturas más bajas se registran en las épocas de lluvias, por lo tanto en agosto suelen registrarse temperaturas más bajas que en enero, pero la amplitud térmica anual es poco significativa en general.
La importancia económica de los llanos se debe a que esta es una región apta para la ganadería extensiva y para la agricultura. También existe una importante actividad petrolera en los estados venezolanos de Anzoátegui, Apure, Barinas, Guárico y Monagas, y en los departamentos colombianos de Arauca, Casanare, Vichada y Meta. El principal ritmo musical de los Llanos es el joropo.

Alocucion completa de la intervención del Ex presidente, Senador Alvaro Uribe Velez en Cucuta, contra Nicolas Maduro, por el actual cierre de la frontera entre Colombia y Venezuela y el maltrato que se le esta dando a los Colombianos deportados por el gobierno Venezolano. El expresidente Uribe llegó a Cúcuta para escuchar a los colombianos que han sido deportados de Venezuela y los afectados por el cierre de la frontera. El expresidente Álvaro Uribe afirmó en la frontera con Venezuela que Nicolás Maduro infunde contra los colombianos un odio comparable al de Hitler contra los judíos, y por eso casi un millar de ciudadanos han sido deportados en cuatro días. "Así como Hitler infundió odio contra los judíos diciendo que eran la base del mal y una raza inferior y todo terminó con el asesinato de seis millones de judíos, la dictadura castro-chavista de Venezuela está dedicada a infundir odio contra el pueblo colombiano llamando a nuestras mujeres prostitutas y a nuestros compatriotas paramilitares", dijo Uribe en un discurso desde el puente que une Colombia y Venezuela en Cúcuta. En el discurso, que fue apoyado por centenares de personas que permanecen en el puente que fue cerrado en la medianoche del pasado miércoles, el exmandatario mostró su solidaridad con los al menos 861 colombianos que han sido deportados desde Venezuela en los últimos días, cuando Maduro decretó un estado de excepción en parte del estado fronterizo de Táchira. Asimismo, envió un pedido a la comunidad internacional y al Gobierno de Colombia para que intervengan ante esta situación. En opinión del senador Uribe, los ciudadanos colombianos deportados han sido "despojados en su pobreza humillada", puesto que muchos de ellos han tenido que dejar Venezuela sin llevar ninguna de sus propiedades y tienen "sus casas marcadas como jaulas de animales". Además, expresó su solidaridad con los venezolanos de la oposición "torturados y encarcelados". "Esta es una voz de alerta, ahora nuestra preocupación es cuánto va a durar la dictadura castro-chavista de Venezuela", afirmó Uribe, que recordó que los gulags soviéticos estuvieron presentes durante más de 70 años. Durante su discurso, Uribe abogó por "una frontera libre" en el que haya "libre tránsito de personas trabajadoras" y recordó que Colombia es signatario de tratados internacionales que dicen que "ningún país en ejercicio de soberanía puede tratar injustamente a los ciudadanos de otro". Tras el cierre de la frontera, la canciller María Ángela Holguín afirmó el pasado jueves que esa era una "decisión soberana". Posteriormente, el Gobierno ha endurecido su posición y ha pedido que se "respete la integridad y los derechos humanos" de los colombianos que viven en Venezuela. Uribe hizo un llamado a la comunidad internacional y a los delegados y observadores para que vayan a las elecciones parlamentarias que celebrarán en Venezuela en diciembre "no como turistas que visitan Caracas", sino para trabajar y revelar las posibles irregularidades que puedan darse. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Colombo, Sri Lanka Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village, 13 km (8.1 mi) northwest of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala is notable for having the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2011, there were 88 elephants, including 37 males and 51 females from 3 generations, living in Pinnawala. The orphanage was originally founded in order to afford care and protection to many of the orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC). Elephant care ========== The orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Young elephants sometimes fall into pits and ravines in their quest for water during drought period. Other orphans have been displaced from their wild habitat by development projects or have been found abandoned before weaning, diseased or wounded. There are 48 mahouts (handlers) who take care of the elephants. The female and young elephants in Pinnawala range freely as a herd during the day in an area of a few acres. They are herded about .5 km (0.31 mi) twice a day to drink and be bathed in the river. At night, the females are individually chained in stalls. Adult males are do some light work such as transporting feed. They are chained and managed individually. Calves born in Pinnawala are not bottle fed, but a few from ETH are kept at Pinnawala and bottle fed as a tourist attraction. The elephants are fed in their stalls. There is very little food they can gather from the premises of the orphanage except some grass. Large quantities of jackfruit, coconut, kitul (sugar palm), tamarind and grass, brought in daily, form the bulk of the elephants food.[5] Each adult animal is given around 250 kilograms (550 lb) of this green matter per day and around 2 kg (4.4 lb) from a food bag containing rice bran and maize.- published: 15 Dec 2014

JAIME BAYLY ENTREVISTA A HIJA DE LEDEZMA 25 DE AGOSTO DEL 2015 Presionado por las críticas sobre su gestión de la crisis en la frontera con Venezuela, el presidente de Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, se ha reafirmado en su postura de buscar una salida por la vía diplomática y del diálogo con las autoridades del país vecino. “No es momento de hacer sonar las trompetas de guerra que algunos quisieran escuchar”, ha asegurado Santos durante una alocución retransmitida a todo el país. “Es momento de obrar con firmeza, con sensatez y eficacia para solucionar esta situación y defender las vidas y la dignidad de nuestros compatriotas”, ha insistido el mandatario colombiano, quien, por primera vez se ha referido al comportamiento del Gobierno de Venezuela con la deportación de más de un millar de personas: “Exigimos respeto por todos los colombianos: desde los más humildes hasta los más poderosos; desde los más cercanos a nuestro Gobierno hasta los que nos critican ferozmente”. “Respeto y dignidad” ha exigido en varias ocasiones Santos durante su intervención, en la que también se ha recibido al proceder de las autoridades venezolanas a la hora de deportar a ciudadanos colombianos: “Allanar las viviendas, sacar a la fuerza a los habitantes, separar a las familias, no dejarles sacar sus pocos bienes y marcar las casas para luego demolerlas, son procedimientos totalmente inaceptables y recuerdan episodios amargos de la humanidad que no pueden repetirse”. Nadie duda que la crisis fronteriza, derivada ya en crisis humanitaria, tiene un trasfondo electoral. Venezuela celebrará unas importantes elecciones parlamentarias el próximo 6 de diciembre, mientras que Colombia hará lo propio en los comicios regionales del 25 de octubre. Sobre la repercusión que esta situación pueda tener en las urnas, Santos ha lamentado: “Qué triste ver que esta situación es utilizada en ambos países para promover intereses políticos, que buscan pescar en río revuelto, teniendo en cuenta la proximidad de las elecciones”. Poco después de la intervención de Santos, el presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro, intentó eludir el tema de la crisis fronteriza durante su programa semanal, En contacto con Maduro, transmitido desde Caracas. No obstante, se mostró confiado en que la canciller colombiana, María Ángela Holguín, tenga la paciencia para escuchar este miércoles en Cartagena las “duras verdades” que le trasladará su homóloga venezolana, Delcy Rodríguez, en la reunión que tienen prevista para dar una salida a la crisis. Aunque nunca se refirió a la declaración que una hora antes había hecho en Bogotá el presidente Santos, Maduro aseguró que este “solo se informa por lo que dicen la revista Semana, El Tiempo y Caracol”, medios que, a juicio del mandatario venezolano, “mienten descaradamente todos los días” sobre la situación que reina en la frontera. Reiteró su reciente denuncia de que el éxodo de colombianos pone al borde del colapso a los sistemas venezolanos de asistencia social pero, a la vez, dijo que Caracas seguirá recibiendo “con los brazos abiertos” a los colombianos que lleguen en búsqueda de una vida mejor. “Nuestro problema es solo con los paramilitares y quienes nos traen 20 plagas desde Colombia”, aseguró, para rebatir la “campaña mediática” que pretende mostrarlo como un hincha de la xenofobia. Advirtió que “apenas acaba de empezar la respuesta de Venezuela al paramilitarismo colombiano” y anunció el inicio este miércoles de un censo en los seis distritos del limítrofe estado de Táchira donde rige desde el viernes en la noche un Estado de Excepción, “para saber qué es de quién, dónde están los almacenes, dónde están los recursos” y neutralizar a contrabandistas e ilegales. Así mismo, el sucesor de Hugo Chávez dijo que incentivará la conformación de un “poderoso movimiento” de colombianos “honestos”, residentes en Venezuela, que exprese su apoyo a las medidas que viene adoptando el régimen chavista en los linderos binacionales.- published: 26 Aug 2015
