Colombo (Sinhala: කොළඹ, pronounced [ˈkoləmbə]; Tamil: கொழும்பு) is the largest city of Sri Lanka. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, the capital of Sri Lanka. Colombo is often referred to as the capital of the country, since Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte is a satellite city of Colombo. Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins and a population of 647,100. The Colombo Metropolitan Region, defined by the districts of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara, has an estimated population of 5,648,000, and covers an area of 3,694.20 km². As per the Provincial Gross Domestic Product-2010, The Western Province, which includes the cities of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara recorded GDP per capita of USD 3,808, the highest recorded GDP per capita for any region in South Asia. It was formerly the political capital of Sri Lanka, before Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte.
Due to its large harbour and its strategic position along the East-West sea trade routes, Colombo was known to ancient traders 2,000 years ago. It was made the capital of the island when Sri Lanka was ceded to the British Empire in 1815, and its status as capital was retained when the nation became independent in 1948. In 1978, when administrative functions were moved to Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, Colombo was designated as the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.

each night I wonder when I lay down to watch the stars
why he won’t ever come out
hid in his store to deny books full of scars
written to give colours to his life
now he’s what he never wanted to be,
he’ll tell you tales of days when he was young
god knows that he’s aware of reaching boiling points
digging in the earth that built his past
entering the store you feel the string that holds is thin
he’ll tell you tales of days when he grew old
tonight when he got to bed he’ll fall asleep
today he won’t ever wake up
one day I’ll start a revolution, throw a coin
when all the things surrounding me are gone”
his earthy powers will be washed away
and thrown into the winds
he’s taking every secret to the sky
don’t let me down
