Hello YouTube Friends,
KISS "Keep It Simple Sharpening" Should be Keep It Safe Sharpening, since I sliced my hand goofing with the razor sharp ULU.
I sharpened this ULU knife for two reasons. I want to use this knife in my leather work and I wanted to sharpen a difficult blade. C.S. Osborne Round knife is the leather worker's best friend. All said and done the razor sharp ULU is nothing like a C.S. Osborne Round knife. The grind, the steel and blade shape are all very different. I'm disappointed it doesn't cut like a C.S. Osborne but I'm pleased with the razor sharp edge. It does cut leather and I use thick leather in my cut test. However, this ULU can only be used to trim edges and skive leather. This was a good sharpening practice for me as taught myself to sharpen an Alaska ULU knife to a razor's edge. Sometimes one has hi hopes for a product but an Alaskan ULU is best used for soft meats and tissue and not thick hard leather. All the basic sharpening principals apply. I guess I'm going to have to save my pennies up for an authentic C.S. Osborne Round knife. That's about seven thousand pennies. Mercy

An ulu (Inuktitut syllabics: ᐅᓗ, plural: uluit, English: "woman's knife") is an all-purpose knife traditionally used by Eskimo women, both Yupik and Inuit. It is utilized in applications as diverse as skinning and cleaning animals, cutting a child's hair, cutting food and, if necessary, trimming blocks of snow and ice used to build an igloo. The ulu is still used today but not for cutting children's hair.
In the Nunatsiavummiutut dialect, spoken in Nunatsiavut, the word is spelled uluk, and in East Greenlandic it is sakiaq or saakiq and in syllabics is ᓴᒃᑭᖅ.
Traditionally the ulu was made with a caribou antler, muskox horn or walrus ivory handle and slate cutting surface, due to the lack of metal smelting technology in the Arctic. The handle could also be carved from bone, and wood was sometimes used when it was available. In certain areas, such as Ulukhaktok Northwest Territories, copper was used for the cutting surface.
Today the ulu is still often made with a caribou antler handle but the blade is usually made of steel. The steel is quite often obtained by purchasing a hand saw or wood saw and cutting the blade to the correct shape. A hardwood called sisattaq is also used for handles. These uluit are both kept for home use and sold to others. It is also possible to purchase commercially produced uluit, sometimes made with a plastic handle and complete with a cutting board.

Orang Ulu ("remote people") is an ethnic designation politically coined to group together roughly 27 very small but ethnically diverse tribal groups in Sarawak, with a population ranging from less than 300 persons to over 25,000 persons. Orang Ulu is not a legal term and no such racial group exist or listed in the Malaysian Constitution. The term was popularised by a minority association known as "Orang Ulu National Association" (OUNA) that was formed in 1969.
The Orang Ulu typically live in longhouses elaborately decorated with murals and woodcarvings. They are also well-known for their intricate beadwork detailed tattoos. The Orang Ulu tribes can also be identified by their unique music - distinctive sounds from their sape’, a plucked boat-shaped lute, formerly with two strings, nowadays usually with four strings.
A vast majority of the Orang Ulu tribes are Christians but old traditional religions are still practiced in some areas.

KISS "Keep It Simple Sharpening" Should be Keep It Safe Sharpening, since I sliced my hand goofing with the razor sharp ULU.
I sharpened this ULU knife for two reasons. I want to use this knife in my leather work and I wanted to sharpen a difficult blade. C.S. Osborne Round knife is the leather worker's best friend. All said and done the razor sharp ULU is nothing like a C.S. Osborne Round knife. The grind, the steel and blade shape are all very different. I'm disappointed it doesn't cut like a C.S. Osborne but I'm pleased with the razor sharp edge. It does cut leather and I use thick leather in my cut test. However, this ULU can only be used to trim edges and skive leather. This was a good sharpening practice for me as taught myself to sharpen an Alaska ULU knife to a razor's edge. Sometimes one has hi hopes for a product but an Alaskan ULU is best used for soft meats and tissue and not thick hard leather. All the basic sharpening principals apply. I guess I'm going to have to save my pennies up for an authentic C.S. Osborne Round knife. That's about seven thousand pennies. Mercy

Ülkemizin birçok yerinde Ulu Cami adıyla anılan büyük camiler vardır. Fakat Bursa Ulu Camii birçok yönüyle gerek ülkemizde gerek ise dünyadaki diğer camilerden ayrılmaktadır.
Önce bilinen tarafından kısaca bahsedelim.
Ulu Camii Yıldırım Bayezid tarafından1399 senesinde yaptırılmıştır. 20 kubbelidir ve 5.000 metrekare alana sahiptir. Batı tarafındaki minaresi Yıldırım Bayezid tarafından, doğu tarafındaki minare ise Çelebi Mehmet tarafından yaptırılmıştır. Askılı ve sabit toplam 192 hat levhası bulunan cami bir nevi hat müzesini andırmaktadır. Mimari Ali Neccar'dır. İslam'da makam bakımından 5. En büyük camiidir.
Şimdi de Bursa Ulu Cami'nin Bilinmeyen Yüzü 'ne kısaca bir göz atalım.
En önemli özelliklerinden biri minberidir. Minberin doğu tarafında güneş sistemi, batı tarafında ise galaksi sistemi işlenmiştir. Alt kısımda ise dolap kapaklarını andıran bölümler Türk boylarını temsil etmektedir. Kündekâri tekniği ile 6666 adet abanoz ağacı parçasından yapılmış olan minbere neresinden bakılırsa bakılsın İslam Bilimi'nin 1400 lü yıllarda ne kadar üstün olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Ünlü gökbilimci Galileo'nun 16.yy 'ın sonlarında güneş sistemi teorisini savunduğunda kilisenin onu asmak istemesi ve sonunda ev hapsine mahkûm etmesi ve o tarihten tam 200 sene önce Bursa Ulu Camii'nin minberindeki güneş sistemi müthiş bir ironi oluşturmaktadır.
Bursa Ulu Camii'nin bir diğer önemli özelliği ise kapalı namaz kılma alanı bakımından Türk tarihinde yapılan en büyük camii olma özelliğidir. Aklımıza Sultan Ahmet, Selimiye gibi şaheserler gelebilir fakat o camilerin büyüklükleri duvarlarla çevrili avluları ile birliktedir. Ayrıca o camiler tek ve çok yüksek bir kubbe ile örtülü olduğundan geniş bir alan izlenimi verir. Bursa Ulu Camii içerisindeki çok sayıda sütun ve kubbe camiyi ufak gibi görmemiz sebep olsa da Türk tarihinin en büyük camisi halen Bursa Ulu Camii'dir.
Camii'nin içeriği konusunda daha birçok ilkten ve şaşırtıcı bilgiden söz edilebilir. Fakat bilgilerin bir kısmı kesinlik kazanmadığından bunların söylenmesi çelişki yaratabilmektedir.
Hemşehrilerimizce bilinmesini istediğimiz en önemli özellikleri ise minberindeki işlemelerin Orta Çağ İslam bilimi ve sanatı'nın Avrupa'dan oldukça ileride olması, Türk tarihinin en büyük camisi olması ve başlıca "vav" harfi olmak üzere içerisindeki birçok hat sanatı örneğiyle 613 senelik bir şaheser olmasıdır. Bir diğer temennimiz ise bu bilgilerin bizzat yerinde ve mümkün mertebe ailelerimiz, çoluk çocuğumuz ve öğrencilerimizle birlikte görülerek tarihimize sahip çıkma adına somut bir adım atmamızdır.
