Alabama (i/ˌæləˈbæmə/) is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and Mississippi to the west. Alabama is the 30th-most extensive and the 23rd-most populous of the 50 United States. Alabama ranks second in the area of its inland waterways.
From the American Civil War until World War II, Alabama, like many Southern states, suffered economic hardship, in part because of continued dependence on agriculture. Despite the growth of major industries and urban centers, white rural interests dominated the state legislature until the 1960s, while urban interests and African Americans were under-represented. Following World War II, Alabama experienced growth as the economy of the state transitioned from agriculture to diversified interests in heavy manufacturing, mineral extraction, education, and technology. In addition, the establishment or expansion of multiple military installations, primarily those of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, added to state jobs.

Jimmy: Where is she?::Tony Harwell: Why should I tell you where she is if she doesn't tell you where she is in the letter?::Jimmy: Then why do you take the time to come out to Brooklyn to give me this letter if you don't think she cares enough about me to let me know where she is, or to let you know to let me know where she is? Doesn't that makes sense to you?::Tony Harwell: It should, but it don't.

Well, I'm glad, little Johnny wants that remote control
I know I'm gonna run it fast as it will go
And Jenny wants every game that Nintendo makes
It's just around the corner and I can't wait
I've got my stocking hangin', it's time to go to bed
I think I hear some reindeer, I better cover up my head
I know Santa's gonna bring us something just like he always did
Yeah, when it comes to Christmas I'm still a kid
I still like shakin' presents underneath the tree
And tryin' to figure out what ole Santa's got for me
Oh, I get so excited on Christmas Eve
I try my best to close my eyes but I can't sleep
Well, I've got my stocking hangin', it's time to go to bed
I think I hear some reindeer, I better cover up my head
I know Santa's gonna bring us something just like he always did
Yeah, when it comes to Christmas I'm still a kid
When it comes to Christmas, I'm still a kid
I've seen him plow a field of corn all day
That's reality
His overalls are black with dirt
But his face is still full of dignity
He talks about the weather
And he can tell you when it's gonna rain
Told me 'bout the flood of twenty-nine
That washed the crops away
Underneath that Alabama sky
Grandpa told me 'bout the things he'd seen
Underneath that Alabama sky
I listened to my grandpa's memories
At times he mentions Grandma
Turn his head and wipe away a tear
Sometimes we'd take her picture down
And sit and pretend that she's still here
Three girls and two boys he raised on love
And simple honesty
And when they finally have to carry him away
They'll take a lot of me
Underneath that Alabama sky
Grandpa told me 'bout the things he'd seen
Underneath that Alabama sky
I listened to my grandpa's memories
Underneath that Alabama sky
My grandpa told me 'bout the things he'd seen
Underneath that Alabama sky
I see the lights of the city tonight and I see a star shinin' so bright
A babe in a manger in swaddling clothes, it's you, it's me everyone knows
The Christmas spirit is in the air, the Christmas spirit is everywhere
Like th day Christ was born in Bethlehem
The Christmas spirit has been coming down
I hear the sound of church bell ring, and I see kids and grown-ups sing
A real live nativity scene, it's you, it's me, we all know what it means
The Christmas spirit is in the air, the Christmas spirit is everywhere
Like the day Christ was born in Bethlehem
The Christmas spirit has been coming down
An it's time to let the angels sing, it's time to praise the newborn King
It's time for that eastern star to shine, it's time, it's Christmas time
Yes, it's time to let the angels sing, it's time to praise the newborn King
It's time for that eastern start to shine, it's time, it's Christmas time
Since the day Christ was born in Bethlehem
Ribbons and paper cover the floor
It's been a great Christmas with presents galore
Everyone's happy and I'm happy too
Oh, what a night, oh, what a night
Night before Christmas I had with you
Frost on the window, snow on the ground
Holiday spirit, holiday sounds
Everyone's thankful and I'm thankful, too
Oh, what a night, oh, what a night
Night before Christmas I had with you
It all started underneath that mistletoe
When we were waiting up just to help ole Santa Claus
We were making merry in ways
We'd never thought of when we heard those sleigh
Bells and ole Santa almost caught us
We didn't take no pictures
But I still remember one very special
Twenty-fourth day of December
Oh, what a night, oh, what a night
Night before Christmas I had with you
It all started underneath that mistletoe
While we were waiting up to help ole Santa clause
We were making merry in ways
We'd never thought of when we heard those sleigh
Bells and ole Santa almost caught us
If we don't do this next year, honey, I'm sure gonna miss it
Why don't we make it a new yuletide tradition
Oh, what a night, oh, what a night
Night before Christmas I had with you
Oh, what a night, oh, what a night
Well, rockin' around the Christmas tree at the Christmas party hop
Mistletow hung where you can see every couple of tries to stop
Rockin' around the Christmas tree let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie and we'll do some caroling
You will get a sentimental feeling, when you hear voices singing
"Let's be jolly, deck the halls with boughs of holly"
Well, rockin' around the Christmas tree, have a happy holiday
Everyone feeling merrily in the new old-fashioned way
You will get a sentimental feeling, when you hear voices singing
"Let's be jolly, deck the halls with boughs of holly"
Yeah, rockin' around the Christmas tree have a happy holiday
I stand here lookin' up at the starts tonight
How can one man have so much in life
As I look around me, what a picture it paints
I'm much more than lucky, I oughta give my thanks
There's food on the table, a log on the fire
And in my woman's eyes there's, love and desire
The blessings, sent from above, oh, the blessings
A life full of love when I look around I can see
All that's been given me, so I lift my eyes up
To the sky, I wanna give my, my, my, my
My thanks for the blessings
Sometimes I fall asleep at the end of the day
And I forget to thank you, I'm ashamed to say
But as I lay m down to sleep, I pray the Lord
My soul to keep, I know you can hear me here on Earth
Thank you for giving me more than I deserve
The blessings, sent from above, oh the blessings
A life full of love when I look around I can see
All that's been given me, so I lift my eyes up
To the sky, 'cause I wanna give my, my, my
My, my thanks for the blessings
Blessings, when I look around, I can see
All that's been given me, so, I lift my eyes up
To the sky, 'cause I wanna give my, my, my
My, my, thanks for the blessings
Baby, let's make a date for a night on the town
How does the turn of the century sound?
I guarantee that we'll have a good time
New year's eve 1999
Now I know it sounds a bit premature
But I'm askin' you now 'cause I want to be sure
Do you have anything else in mind?
New year's eve 1999
We'll drink pink champagne from a plastic cup
Dance all night 'til the sun comes up
We'll say, it's been a pretty good century
Except for that weekend in '93
Then we'll go home to our warn winter bed
And tuck in the kids with a kiss on the head
And sing one more chorus of Auld Lang Syne
New year's eve 1999
I'll be your sweetheart if you'll be mine
New year's eve 1999
O little town of Bethlehem how still we see thee lie
Above they deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by
Yet in they dark streets shineth the everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight
O holy child of Bethlehem descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in be born in us today
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Immanuel
For Christ is born of Mary and gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love
O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth
He raced that engine down the track 'round the tree on Christmas day
I was so amazed my dad would play with trains
I saw a sparkle in his eye, then I heard him say
"Come on, son, let's play, I was young once too
He washed that Buick faithfully, Lord, he kept her clean
I thought that machine meant more to him than me
On the day I turned sixteen he threw me the keys
Said, "I was young once too, now she belongs to you"
He was such a young man then, I'm older than that now
I hope I measure up to him, when the circle comes around
I saw him in the attic sittin' cross legged on the floor
With some old photographs, he point and laughed
He said, "That's me in that picture", I said, "No son, that's your dad"
I was young once too and looked a lot like you
I was young once too, I was young once too
Merry Christmas, son, I wish your grandpa were here
Come, they told me pa rum pa pum pum
Our newborn King to see pa rum pa pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring pa rum pa pum pum
To lay before the King pa rum pa pum pum
Rum pa pum pum, rum pa pum pum
So to honor Him, pa rum pa pum pum
When we come
Baby Jesus pa rum pa pum pum
I am poor boy too pa rum pa pum pum
I have no gift to bring pa rum pa pum pum
That's fit to give our King pa rum pa pum pum
Rum pa pum pum, rum pa pum pum
Shall I play for You pa rum pa pum pum
On my drum?
Mary nodded par rum pa pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time pa rum pa pum pum
I played my drum for Him pa rum pa pum pum
I played my best for Him pa rum pa pum pum
Rum pa pum pum, rum pa pum pum
Then He smiled at me pa rum pa pum pum
Alabama your beautiful sunlight your fields are so recent potatoes and corn
Alabama your crimson red clover all mingle around the old place I was born
Alabama your hills and your valleys your creeks sing with laughter as onward they flow
Alabama so sweet in the springtime sweet ferns and wild flowers and winter with snow
Alabama so sweet to my mem'ry you shine like a light on a beautiful hill
Alabama in days of my childhood I played there and toiled at the old sawmill
[ steel ]
Alabama your beautiful highways across through the mountains where loved ones do wait
Alabama your golden rock flowers and the welcome home sigh hanging over your gate
Alabama to me you are calling my footsteps are hauling no longer to stray
I've been lucky, got to travel this great land
From the mountains of Montana to the Sarasota sands
Oh, what a life living my dreams
I can say these eyes have seen so many things
The moon over Miami, sunset in Frisco bay
It?s all been so beautiful but still I have to say
Nothing comes close to the beauty of your love
Nothing comes close, your sight I can?t describe
Nothing comes close, when you?re lying by my side
Nothing comes close, oh no
Baby, I've been there nothing comes close
I could search forever and never stop
Walk every valley and climb each mountain top
Sell every ocean to the end of my days
But when it was over, I?d still believe I?d say
Nothing comes close to the beauty of your love
Nothing come close, your sight I can?t describe
Nothing comes close, when you?re lying by my side
Nothing comes close
Nothing comes close to the beauty of your love
Nothing come close, your sight I can?t describe
Nothing comes close, when you?re lying by my side
Nothing comes close
Oh, no, baby, I've been there and nothing comes close
I had my rent-a-car flyin' down a two-lane road
Late for my plane again
Had to stop for some gas at this country store
That's when I saw the old man
He was kicked back, workin' on a big RC
Watchin' Gomer Pyle on his little TV
Took him awhile to even notice me
Sittin' there I thought to myself
Old man
(Old man)
You got one up on me
I'm still lookin' for my shady tree
With your two gas pumps and your color TV
You're satisfied as you can be
Old man
(Old man)
I guess you got one up on me
Well, he finally strolled over with a big ol' smile
Said, "How ya doin, son?"
I said, "Give me five dollars worth as fast as you can
'Cause I'm really in a run"
He said, "What's your hurry on a day like this?
If you move too fast, there's a lot you'll miss
If you wanna see what the good life is
Just get out and visit awhile"
Old man
(Old man)
You got one up on me
I'm still lookin' for my shady tree
With your two gas pumps and your color TV
You're satisfied as you can be
Old man
(Old man)
I guess you got one up on me
Don't remember just what it was the old man said to me
But I forgot about catchin' the plane and opened up the big RC
Old man
(Old man)
You got one up on me
I'm still lookin' for my shady tree
With your two gas pumps and your color TV
You're satisfied as you can be
Old man
(Old man)
I guess you got one up on me
Old man
Old man
Old man
Old man
Once upon a lifetime, I looked in someone's eyes
And felt the fire burning in my heart for the very first time
She was scared and young and had never tasted love
So I took her by the hand and a boy became a man
Once upon a lifetime
And once upon a lifetime you hold the queen of hearts
But if you gamble on a diamond win the dealin' starts
You stand to lose it all as the cards begin to fall
And the lesson learned is hard you're only dealt the queen of hearts
Once upon a lifetime
So if you're taking chances, know the chance you take
A broken heart's a high price to pay
Foolish ways will make fools of the wise
And the best things seldom come along twice
Once upon a lifetime you know that you've been blessed
When you hold your first born tenderly against your chest
And through the innocence you see the value of a family
And you feel a special bond that only comes along
Once upon a lifetime
So if you're taking chances, know the chance you take
A broken heart's a high price to pay
Foolish ways will make fools of the wise
And the best things seldom come along twice
And people only find love like yours and mine
My buddies ask me,
if I would write them a song
That says how we're different,
but how good we all get along
Well, Bob, he's a baptist
and his wife, she's cherokee
And Larry, he's a Lutheran,
and his grand daddy is Cree
Well, Paul, he's Penticostal
and his pastor prays for the Sea
and Rusty's dad is a rabbi
but we go huntin' go fish
Well, Carl, he's a Catholic boy,
and his daddy fought in the war
and Joe's mom is in Lebanon
and he knows he believes in the Law
He believes in one big God
and one big heaven
'cause that's where we all want
to be goin'
Well, daddy played his guitar
in churches all over the south
momma played piano
and sometimes she'd sing and shout
Sister's sang altogether
and brought the harmony out
And think about, one big God
and one big heaven
'cause that's where we all want
to be goin'
Well, me, I'm a believer
and I do believe
In all God's children
as far as I can see
Just one big God
and one big heaven
'cause that's where we all want
to be goin'
And one big God
and one big heaven,
A man and wife had prayed for years for children
Were losing faith and close to giving up
Then a young girl with no way to keep her baby
Laid in their arms a tiny gift of love
It only takes one life to make a miracle
One tiny ray of hope to light up the dark
It only takes one life to make a miracle
One honest prayer coming from the heart
A small coal mining town in West Virginia
Prayed as they kept vigil day and night
Saddened by the twelve who lives were taken
But also thankful one made it out alive
It only takes one life to make a miracle
One tiny ray of hope to light up the dark
It only takes one life to make a miracle
One honest prayer coming from the heart
Two thousand years ago the world lay waiting
For the Savior they were told would come
Then on that winter night there in a manger
God blessed the world with his one and only son
It only takes one life to make a miracle
One tiny ray of hope to light up the dark
It only takes one life to make a miracle
One honest prayer coming from the heart
I was born and raised down in Alabama
On a farm way back up in the woods
I was so ragged that folks used to call me Patches
Papa used to tease me about it
Of course deep down inside he was hurt 'cause he done all he could
Papa was a great old man
I can see him with a shovel in his hand
See, education he never had
He did wonders when the time got bad
The little money from the crops he raised
Barely paid the bills he made
So life had kicked him down to the ground
When he tried to get up
Life would kick him back down
One day papa called me to his dying bed
Put his hands on my shoulders
Then with a tears he said
Patches, I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through my son, it's all left up to you
Two days later papa passed away
And I became a man that day
So I told mama I was gonna quit school
She said that was daddy's strictest rule
So every morning 'fore I went to school
I fed the chickens and I chopped wood too
Sometimes I felt that I couldn't go on
I wanted to leave just run away from home
But I always remembered what my daddy said
With tears in his eyes on his dying bed
He said, "Patches, I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through my son, it's all left up to you
Then one day a strong rain came and washed all the crops away
And at the age of thirteen I thought I was carrying
The weight of the whole world on my shoulders
But you know, mama she knew what I was going through
Everyday I had to work the fields
'Cause that's the only way we got our meals
You see, I was the oldest of a family
And everybody else depended on me
Every night I heard my mama pray
Lord, give him the strength to make another day
Though years have passed and all the kids are grown
And angels took my mama to a brand new home
Lord knows people that I shed a tear
My daddy's voice kept a tinging in my ears
Sayin, "Patches, I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through my son, it's all left up to you
Patches, I'm depending on you son, I'm depending on you son
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross
Where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true
It's shame and reproach gladly bear
Then He'll call me someday
To my home far away
Where His glory forever I'll share
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown
When I was a lad and old Shep was a pup
Over hills and meadows we'd stray
Just a boy and his dog, we were both full of fun
We grew up together that way
I remember the time at the old mill pond
When I would've drowned beyond doubt
But old Shep was right there, to the rescue he came
He jumped in and helped pull me out
As, the years passed and rolled, at last he grew old
And his eyesight was fast growing dim.
Then one day the doctor looked at me and said
?I can't do no more for him, Jim?
I went to his side and sat on the ground
And laid his old head on my knee
Well, he was the best friend that I ever had
I cried so I scarcely could see
Old Sheppie he knew, he was going to go
For he reached out and licked at my hand
He looked up at me, just as much as to say
We're parting but you understand
Now old Sheppie is gone where the good doggies go
And no more with old Shep will I roam
But if dogs have a heaven, there's one thing for sure
Round Ole Baugh Road it?s a great place kids to grow
Some grow up and move away
Most of us decide to stay
Round the Ole? Baugh Road
Hard working mom and dad gave us things
That they never had in our corner of the world
Romance is slow for the boys and girls
Round the Ole? Baugh Road
The neighborhood still looks the same
Just new kids with the same old names
My Baugh Road?s in a southern state
Your?s may be anywhere, U.S.A.
Look around Ole? Baugh Road
I see the kids on Ole? Baugh Road
I see the glory of the future glow
Look to the Heavens and give a shout
Like my daddy did when he started out
Round, round, round the Ole Baugh Road
Round, round, round
Round, round, round
Round, round, round
The Ole? Baugh Road
Round, round, round
On This Side Of The Moon
(Mark Alan Springer)
Some folks looks through a telescope
And dream of flying high above the stars
They say it won't be long
'Til we can haul on a ship to Mars
I'm just a simple man
There's a lot that I don't know
But as long as you're here with me
I just assume stay home
On this side of the moon
Things are going my way
Your love keeps shining through
Even when it rains
There's nowhere else I'd rather be
I'm happy standing in these shoes
With you here in my life
The world is looking bright
On this side of the moon
Sometines on a clear night
We pulled out a chair in the yard
And I'm always amazed
At the good lord can make so many stars
But I know I'd feel out of place
Longing through the milky ways
All you expect a astronaut
I'd think I'd rather stay
On this side of the moon
Things are going my way
Your love keeps shining through
Even when it rains
There's nowhere else I'd rather be
I'm happy standing in these shoes
With you here in my life
The world is looking bright
Somewhere in the mountains, in northern Alabama
The Carolina lady waits for her man from Tennessee
And somewhere in a motel out in Oklahoma
There's the Alabama dreamer, that same man from Tennessee
Sometime late at night the lonely wakes her gently
And knocks at her door but she won't give in
But like every other woman she needs to feel wanted
She thinks of making love and goes to sleep again
Carolina, dreamin' lonely, Carolina, can't you see
You will always be the lady that I dream of holding tight
That I kiss and tell goodnight, Carolina Mountain Dewe
Sometime that next day on a Mississippi freeway
The Alabama dreamer is homeward bound
His conscious is as clear as those green eyes of Carolina
And she's waiting with the baby from the love
Of the only man to lay her down
Carolina, dreamin' lonely, Carolina, can't you see
You will always be the lady that I dream of holding tight
That I kiss and tell goodnight, Carolina Mountain Dewe
This town ain't big, this town ain't small.
It's a little of both they say.
Our ball club may be minor league but at least it's triple A.
We sit below the Marlboro man, above the right field wall.
We do the wave all by ourself.
Hey ump, a blind man could've made that call.
Chorus
We like our beer flat as can be.
We like our dogs with mustard and relish.
We got a great pitcher what's his name.
Well we can't even spell it.
We don't worry about the playoffs much.
We just like to see the boys hit it deep.
There's nothing like the view from the cheap seats.
The game was close, we'll call it a win.
Go off to toast the boys again.
That local band is back in town.
They got a kinda minor league sound.
They're not that bad, they're not that good.
But all in all it's understood.
We wanna dance, they wanna play.
We wouldn't have it any other way.
Chorus
Cheap seats
Now the majors called up oh what's his name.
And one more buildin' rises tall.
And suddenly we're all grown up.
And this old town's not quite so small.
But I'll always miss the middle size town.
In the middle of the middle-west.
With no name pitchers and local bands,
and mustard and relish and all the rest.
Chorus
By now in New York City, there's snow on the ground
And out in California, the sunshine's falling down
And, maybe down in Memphis, Graceland's all in lights
And in Atlanta, Georgia, there's peace on earth tonight
Christmas in Dixie, it's snowin' in the pines
Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight
It's windy in Chicago the kids are out of school
There's magic in Motown the city's on the move
In Jackson, Mississippi, to Charlotte, Caroline
And all across the nation, it's the peaceful Christmas time
Christmas in Dixie, it's snowin' in the pines
Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight
And from Fort Payne, Alabama
God bless y'all, we love ya
Happy New Year, good night
There's a blanket of snow coverin' up the old road to the house where I was
raised
Through the window I see the lights on the tree and a glow from the old
fireplace
Though it all looks the same so much as changed from the way it used to be
Christmas memories of happy years gone by
They come back to me and keep me warm inside
Still those Christmas memories make me cry
Now the stockings are filled; the house is still and the kids are dreamin' away
There's that old easy chair, me and Daddy sat there waitin' for Santa's sleigh
Now Daddy's gone but we carry on 'cause the little ones will need...
Christmas memories of happy years gone by
They come back to me and keep me warm inside
Oh they mean so much to me
In a cloud of dust cross Texas, south of San Antone
The lawman and the cowboy pushed their horses on
Racin' toward the Rio, running out of time
They had to catch the outlaws before they crossed the borderline
Well, the lawman wanted justice the cowboy revenge
They tracked the outlaws' horses up to the river's edge
And there across the Rio a badge ain't worth a dime
The law was in their own hands once they crossed the borderline
So they ride to the desert wind down a dusty trail
Destiny begins, heroes never turn or look back
They just ride through the sands of time on the borderline
In the safety of the badlands the outlaws stopped their run
The campfire rings with laughter of evil things they've done
How they'd taken all they wanted and killed the cowboy's wife
And knew no one would follow them, cross the borderline
The lawman and the cowboys stepped out of the dark
And it was two against the twenty and every bullet found it's mark
And so goes the legend that out there in the night
The two still ride together somewhere beyond the borderline
So they ride to the desert wind, down a dusty trail
Destiny begins, heroes never turn or look back
They just ride through the sands of time on the borderline
They ride to the desert wind, down a dusty trail
Destiny begins, heroes never turn or look back
They ride to the desert wind, down a dusty trail
Destiny begins, heroes never turn or look back
Clear creeks and cool mountain mornings
Honest work out in the fields
Cornbread in my momma's kitchen
Daddy saying grace before the meal
Family ties run deep in this land
And I'm never very far from what I am
I was born country and that's what I'll always be
Like the rivers and the woodlands wild and free
I got a hundred years of down home, running through my blood
I was born country and this country's what I love
Moonlight and you hear beside me
Crickets serenadin' in the yard
What more could two people ask for
Laying here in love beneath the stars
Now this is where I wanna raise my kids
Just the way my mom and daddy did
I was born country and that's what I'll always be
Like the rivers and the woodlands wild and free
I got a hundred years of down home, running through my blood
I was born country and this country's what I love
I was born country and that's what I'll always be
Like the rivers and the woodlands wild and free
I got a hundred years of down home, running through my blood
I was born country and this country's what I love
The walls of my mind are closin' in
Can't get away, your memory won't end
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
Breakin' my mind in three quarter time
Makin' me blue
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
I never stop hearin' the music
After the song is through
I still see your eyes
Your warm gentle smile
It was all worthwhile
Each moment we knew
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
Breakin' my mind in three quarter time
Makin' me blue
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
I never stop hearin' the music
After the song is through
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
Breakin' my mind in three quarter time
Makin' me blue
Can't forget about you
Can't forget about you
I never stop hearin' the music
After the song is through
I thought it was forever, I thought it would last
I gotta try to make it a page of my past
You didn't even say goodbye
When you slammed that door
Now, I'm lyin' here alone in what once was our bed
Tryin' to forget all the cruel words you said
Oh, the radio is playin'
What once was our favorite song
Oh, enough is enough I won't take anymore
I'm pickin' myself up off the floor
'Cause you can't keep a good man down
Can't keep a good man down, oh no
Can't keep a good man down, baby
Can't keep a good man down
Gonna dress up in the finest clothes that I own
And take it to the streets, I won't be lonely for long
I'm gonna put on my best moves
On every single woman I see
Now, you thought you could break me
Add me to your list, notch me on your gun
Let me tell you this, I got news for you, baby
I don't break that easily
'Cause you can't keep a good man down
Can't keep a good man down, oh no
Can't keep a good man down, sugar
Can't keep a good man down
I'll be out there on the scene
Hangin' with my friends
This world's gonna see me smilin' again
I'm takin' some time to erase you from my memory
Don't write me any letters
Don't call me on the phone
Don't knock on my door 'cause to you I'm not at home
I know there's a woman out there for a man like me
'Cause you can't keep a good man down
Can't keep a good man down, oh no
Can't keep a good man down, baby
Can't keep a good man down
Oh, enough is enough I can't take anymore
I'm pickin' myself up off the floor
'Cause you can't keep a good man down, baby
Can't keep a good man down, honey
Can't keep a good man down, sugar
Can't keep a good man down, oh no
Can't keep a good man down, oh no
Can't keep a good man down, oh no
Can't keep a, can't keep a good man down, oh no
Can't keep a good man down
Can't keep a good man down
Can't keep a good man down, oh no
Can't keep a good man down, oh no
I?ve made some decisions
Never not the best
Against my better judgment
I must confess
I went astray so many ways
So my dreams fall apart
And came a day, I?m glad to say
I followed my heart
That feeling, the one I?m feeling now
Oh, that feeling, that turned me all around
That feeling, oh, what love can do
That feeling, that never let?s me down
Oh, that feeling, that always come around
I never need another
It?s gonna last my whole life through
That feeling, I?m feeling for you
Looking in the mirror
Reflecting on the past
Memories or misery
That?s all fading fast
These eyes over my shoulder
Oh, they made me realize
I?ve made the right decision
The day I recognized
That feeling, the one I?m feeling now
Oh, that feeling, that turned me all around
That feeling, oh, what love can do
That feeling, that never let?s me down
Oh, that feeling, that always come around
I never need another
It?s gonna last my whole life through
That feeling, I?m feeling for you
I never need another
It?s gonna last my whole life through
I never will go back to Alabama, that is not the place
for me (2x)
You know they killed my sister and my brother,
and the whole world let them peoples go down there free
I never will love Alabama, Alabama seem to never have
loved poor me (2x)
Oh God I wish you would rise up one day,
lead my peoples to the land of pea'
My brother was taken up for my mother, and a police
officer shot him down (2x)
I can't help but to sit down and cry sometime,
think about how my poor brother lost his life
Alabama, Alabama, why you wanna be so mean (2x)
You got my people behind a barbwire fence,
Everybody get on your feet you make me nervous when you're in your seat
Take off your shoes and pat your feet we're doin' a dance that can't be beat
We're barefootin' we're barefootin' we're barefootin' we're barefootin'
Went to a party the other night long tall Sally was out of sight
Threw 'way her wig and her high sneakers too she's doing a dance without any shoes
She's barefootin' she's barefootin' she's barefootin' she's barefootin'
Hey little girl with your red dress on bet you can barefoot all night long
Take off your shoes and throw 'em away come back and get 'em another day
We're barefootin' we're barefootin' we're barefootin' we're barefootin'
Everybody be barefootin' take your shoes off
Little John Henry he said to Sue if I barefoot would you barefoot too
Sue told John I'll stir your stew I was barefootin' ever since I was two
I'm barefootin' we're barefootin' we're barefootin' we're barefootin'
Barefootin' we're barefootin' don't have no shoes on we're barefootin'
They married back in '32
They were young and love was new
And every day the feeling grew
Between the two of them
When work grew scarce and times got bad
The hope would chase away the sad
And hope was sometimes all they had
Between the two of them
The 40's came and the 50's went
And the mortgage replaced the rent
They made the most of each day spent
Between the two of them
Their children all turned out just fine
So he retired in '69
And left with, oh, so little time
Between the two of them
Today I brave the graveyard rain
And placed a rose between their names
Now that's the most that ever came
Between the two of them
And though I miss them, oh, so much
His crooked smile her gentle touch
And the pleasure of just growing up
If we could leave this big old city
And head back for the cabin we loved
Back deep in the woods
Baby, we would
If we could jump in some big old jet plane
Head for the islands
Where the weather is always good
Don't you know we would?
We can't do this and we can't do that
But baby we can stay right where we're at
Take a little trip, take a little trip
Take a little trip up to heaven tonight
Take a little time, leave it all behind
Take a little trip up to heaven tonight
We can go downtown to a nightclub
And dance to the rhythm of the music
On that old hardwood
Baby, we could
We could call up Rita and Bobby
And see what they're doing tonight
And maybe play some rook
Yeah, baby, we could
Yeah, now we can do this or we can do that
Or baby, we can stay right where we're at
Take a little trip, take a little trip
Take a little trip up to heaven tonight
Take a little time, leave it all behind
Take a little trip you and me outta sight
Pull down the shades, turn out the lights
Take a little trip up to heaven tonight
Take a little trip, take a little trip
Take a little trip up to heaven tonight
Take a little trip, me and you outta sight
Pull down the shades, turn out the lights
You get up every morning
From your alarm clock's warning
Take the 8:15 into the city
There's a whistle up above
And people pushin', people shovin'
And the girls who try to look pretty
And if your train's on time
You can get to work by nine
And start your slaving job to get your pay
If you ever get annoyed
Look at me I'm self-employed
I love to work at nothing all day
And I'll be...
Taking care of business, every day
Taking care of business ,every way
I've been taking care of business, it's all mine
Taking care of business. and working overtime
Work out
--- Instrumental ---
If it were easy as fishin'
You could be a musician
If you could make sounds loud or mellow
Get a second-hand guitar
Chances are you'll go far
If you get in with the right bunch of fellows
People see you having fun
Just a-lying in the sun
Tell them that you like it this way
It's the work that we avoid
And we're all self-employed
We love to work at nothing all day
And I'll be...
Taking care of business, every day
Taking care of business, every way
I've been taking care of business, it's all mine
Taking care of business and working overtime
--- Instrumental ---
1, 2, 3, 4, And we be...
Taking care of business every day
Taking care of business every way
I've been taking care of business, it's all mine
Taking care of business and working overtime
Many years ago in days of childhood
I used to play till evening shadows come
And then winding down that old familiar pathway
I heard my mother call at set of sun
"Come home, come home, it's suppertime
The shadow's lengthen fast
Come home, come home, it's suppertime
We're going home at last"
Some of the fondest memories of my childhood
Are woven around suppertime
When Mama used to call out from the back steps
To the old home place, "Come on home, son, it's suppertime"
Oh, how I'd love to hear those words once more
But you know for me, time is woven in the realization of the truth
That's even more thrilling
And that's when the call comes from the portals of glory
To come on home, it's suppertime
"Come home, come home, it's suppertime
The shadow's lengthen fast
Come home, come home, it's suppertime
We're going home at last, we're going home at last"
When all God's children shall gather 'round the table
I need T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
Well, my muscles ache and my feet are sore
Thank God, it's Friday and it's almost four
And time to hit the door
I'm gonna spend the weekend on the lake
We've been working overtime and we need a break
And Honey, I can't wait
We know how to spell relief
Got a good old fashion recipe
A little T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
A little R and R for you and me
A guaranteed rat race remedy
A little T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
Bring a book to read and a change of clothes
Well, I packed the cooler and a Coleman stove
And the radio
We can [Incomprehensible] laugh in the sun all day
We can love in a moonlight hours away
While the crickets play
Well, we work real hard six days a week
Honey, this is something we both need
A little T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
A little R and R for you and me
Guaranteed rat race remedy
A little T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
A little T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
A little R and R for you and me
A guaranteed rat race remedy
I need T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
R and R for you and me
T.L.C. A.S.A.P.
R and R for you and me
Long hair was not in style the first time I heard Haggard on the radio
But I could feel the changes comin' on
The Beatles crossed the ocean, an overnight explosion on the TV
My brother had to go to Vietnam
Ford unveiled the mustang
Things looked good in Detroit for the people there
And I could feel the changes comin' on
From Atlanta Doctor King told the world he had a dream
People followed him, daddy said my hair was getting long
I could feel changes comin' on
People started singin' different songs
Searchin' for the place where they belong
I could feel changes comin' on
Well, I'm still hooked on Haggard
But the Beatles can't come back like we hoped they would
In Memphis, Tennessee, king is gone
As I put my kids to bed, oh, I wonder what lies ahead for them to see
'Cause I can feel the change comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
People still are singin' different songs
They're searchin' for the place where they belong
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
People still are singin' different songs
They're searchin' for the place where they belong
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on and on and on and on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on and on and on and on
I can feel, you can feel, we can feel
Changes comin' on and on and on and on
I can feel changes comin' on
I can feel changes comin' on and on and on and on
I can feel changes comin' on
The End Of The Lyin'
Alabama
Album: Roll On
You took me for a fool
Then you took me for a ride
You really had me going
Till I looked into your lies
I let you keep me hangin' on
But honey here's where I get off
It's the end of the lyin'
And I can't stand no more denyin'
It's all over but the cryin'
Honey it's the end of the line
Don't tell me a story
I don't care where you've been
Girl I'm out for glory
And I won't be back again
I let you keep me hangin' on
But honey here's where I get off
It's the end of the lyin'
And I can't stand no more denyin'
It's all over but the cryin'
Honey it's the end of the line
It's the end of the lyin'
And I can't stand no more denyin'
It's all over but the cryin'
Honey it's the end
It's the end of the lyin'
And I can't stand no more denyin'
It's all over but the cryin'
I got her in my heart and I got her in my head.
I got her in love and I got her in bed.
I got her thank for all I own.
If it wasn't for her love, I'd be all alone.
Chorus:
She's my woman back home that treats me right, early in the mornin' to late
at night.
It doesn't really matter. Any time's all right.
Wish my woman back home was here tonight to hold me tight.
Thinkin' 'bout her now in my hotel room.
I'm wonderin' when and I'm hopin' it's soon.
I see her smile and her eyes are green.
She's the prettiest girl my eyes have ever seen.
Fantasy, midnight and you and me
Ecstasy, spirits running wild and free
Take me away, away
Outside on a blanket in the moonlight
It feels right with my arms around you tight
Laying under Heaven watching the stars, okay
While me and you and Mother Nature drift away
Fantasy, midnight and you and me
Ecstasy, spirits running wild and free
Take me away, away
Fantasy, midnight and you and me
Ecstasy, spirits running wild and free
Fantasy, midnight and you and me
Ecstasy, spirits running wild and free
Take me away, away
I know people who lose their lover turn around and they find another
Fall in love and then they break up I don't know if I want to wake up
Cause I'm still dreamin' I'm still dreamin' baby
I'm still dreamin' oh oh oh about you
Other women walk right up to me I hear them talking but it goes right through me
I know it's love that's on the line but they don't know what's on my mind
Cause I'm still dreamin'...
It's like a voice that's always calling it's like a feelin' that I'm always falling
I close my eyes and all I see is you you you
Cause I'm still dreamin'...
oh this white trash sunset
no exit off of this freeway
oh this southern climate
humid kill, vultures meal freeway
oh my redneck mistress
victory for those who leaves this freeway
oh trailer suburbia
prison cell, part of hell freeway
state where fast is always slow
so the wind can't ever blow
hopelessly yours alabama
oh void of beauty for miles
three tooth smile, change the dial freeway
oh abandoned autos
a one bedroom home for the drunk and stoned freeway
nothing ever sits just right
well escape this place tonight
We used to get crazy every Saturday night
We drive into town and get feelin' right
A child of the 60's in 74
But I'm not that way anymore
Well I burned the tires of my Chevrolet
Tryin' to impress the girls that I date
And I've been a gambler when I couldn't score
But I'm not that way anymore
I'm not that way anymore
Time's closin' yesterdays door
I'm just as happy as I was before
'Cause I'm not that way anymore
American Bandstand, The Sullivan Show
I listen to the Opery, on my radio
Well Dick Clark's still lookin' as young as before
But I'm not that way anymore
Well I swapped my loafers for cowboy boots
Bought me some jeans gave away all my suits
My razor is rusted my barber is bored
'Cause I'm not that way anymore
I'm not that way anymore
Time's closin' yesterdays door
But I'm just as happy as I was before
'Cause I'm not that way anymore
I'm not that way anymore
Times closin' yesterdays door
But I'm just as happy as I was before
'Cause I'm not that way and you're not that way
We're not that way anymore
I saw you starin' at each other
I saw your eyes begin to glow
And I could tell you once were lovers
You ain't hidin' nothing that I don't know
There's an old flame burin' in your eyes
That tears can't drown and make-up can't disguise
Now that old flame might not be stronger but it's been burnin' longer
Than any spark I might have started in your eyes
You said it ended when he left you
You say your love for me is strong
But those old memories still upset you
Well I might be a memory before too long
'Cause there's an old flame burin' in your eyes
That tears can't drown and make-up can't disguise
Now that old flame might not be stronger but it's been burnin' longer
Than any spark I might have started in your eyes
There's an old flame burnin' in your eyes
That tears can't drown and make-up can't disguise
Now that old flame might not be stronger but it's been burnin' longer
cb talk( How bout ya Alabama Roll on)
(chorus)
Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till you get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler roll on (roll on)
It's Monday morning, he's kissin' momma goodbye
He's up and gone with the sun
Daddy drives an eighteen-wheeler
And he's off on a midwest run
As three sad faces gather round momma
They ask her when daddy's comin' home
Daddy drives an eighteen-wheeler
And they sure miss him when he's gone (yeah they do)
Ah, but he calls them everynight and he tells them that he loves them
And he taught them this song to sing
(chorus)
Roll on highway, Roll on along
Roll on daddy till ya get back home
Roll on family, Roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler roll on (roll on)
It's Wednesday evening, momma's waitin by the phone
It rings but it's not his voice
Seems the highway patrol has found a jacknifed rig
In a snow bank in Illinois
But the driver was missin' and the search had been abandoned
For the weather had everything strong
And they had checked all the houses and local motels
When they had somemore news they'd call
And she told them when they found him to tell him that she loved him
And she hung up the phone singin'
(chorus)
Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till ya get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler roll on
Momma and the children will be waiting up all night long
Thinkin' nothing but the words just comin'
With the ringin' of the telephone
Oh, but the man upstairs was listening
When momma asked him to bring daddy home
And when the call came in it was daddy on the other end
Askin' her if she had been singin' the song, singin'
(chorus)
Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till ya get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler
(chorus)
Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till ya get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler roll on (roll on)
eighteen-wheeler
eighteen-wheeler
eighteen-wheeler
eighteen-wheeler
Roll on
ALABAMA LYRICS
If You're Gonna Play In Texas (You Gotta Have A Fiddle In The Band)
(Dan Mitchell/Murray Kellum)
If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band
That lead guitar is hot but not for ";Louisiana Man";
So rosin up that bow for ";Faded Love"; and let's all dance
If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band
I remember down in Houston we were puttin' on a show
When a cowboy in the back stood up and yelled, ";Cotton-Eyed Joe";!
He said, ";We love what you're doin', boys don't get us wrong
There's just somethin' missin' in your song";
If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band
That lead guitar is hot but not for ";Louisiana Man";
So rosin up that bow for ";Faded Love"; and let's all dance
If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band
So we dusted off our boots and put our cowboy hats on straight
Them Texans raised the roof when Jeff opened up his case
You say y'all all wanna two-step
You say ya wanna doe-si-doe
Well, here's your fiddlin' song before we go
If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band
That lead guitar is hot but not for ";Louisiana Man";
So rosin up that bow for ";Faded Love"; and let's all dance
If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band
If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band
That lead guitar is hot but not for ";Louisiana Man";
So rosin up that bow for ";Faded Love"; and let's all dance
If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band
Is that what time it is
I'm sorry if I woke you with this call
But all this wine is in my head
And I'm so lonely from it all
Don't hang up
Baby, hear what I gotta say
We started out such a beautiful story
We just can't end this way
I wanna come over I wanna love you tonight
I don't care about the time or who's wrong or who's right
Just say it's okay
And I'll be on my way
I wanna come over could you get outta bed
I'll try to unsay all the things I've said
Please say it's okay
And I'll be on my way
Is that what time it is
I'm sorry if I'm keeping you from your sleep
But all these feelings are running through me
You know I never knew they ran so deep
What's that you're sayin'
That just before I phoned
You were gettin' ready to give me call
'Cause you were feelin' so alone
I wanna come over I wanna love you tonight
I don't care about the time or who's wrong or who's right
Just say it's okay
And I'll be on my way
I wanna come over could you get outta bed
I'll try to unsay all the things I've said
Please say it's okay
And I'll be on my way
I wanna come over, I'm comin' over
Everyone knows it, see talks goin' 'round
It ain't no secret 'cause it's all over town
Some people are talkin' that we know so well
Everyone's heard it but the one you can't tell
Write it down in blue, sorry I don't love you
If you can't face the truth
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue
What you are feeling, you just can't explain
Oh, you got your reasons, now you just can't change
And there's no way to hide it 'cause baby I can see
So if you can't say it then do this for me
Write it down in blue, sorry I don't love you
If you can't face the truth
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue
Yeah, that's the thing to do
If you can't say it's over
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue
Blue, blue, blue
Write it down in blue, oh
Blue, blue, blue
Write it down in blue
Write it down in blue
Everyone knows it, see talks goin' 'round
It ain't no secret, it's all over town
Some people are talkin' that we know so well
Everyone's heard it but the one you can't tell
Write it down in blue, yeah I don't love you
If you can't face the truth
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue
Yeah, that's the thing to do
If you can't say it's over
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue, oh yeah
Write it down, write it down
Write it down in blue
Write it down, write it down
It's almost summer you know and I can't wait to go
Diggin' my toes in the sand
Spendin' long summer days soakin' up some rays
To the sound of a reggae band
My baby looks so good but I knew she would
And I'm so glad she's mine
I'm gonna kiss her again, while the waves roll in
It's just a wonderful waste of time
Ooh, put all our cares behind us
Wrapped in each others arms is where you'll find us
Kickin' back on a beach with my lover in reach
Holdin' her hand in mine
Crazy things that we do, may not matter to you
It's just a wonderful waste of time
Ooh, we're dancin' a hole to China
Even though we're on a beach in Carolina
Ooh, moonlight walks by the ocean
Ooh, there's no need to control our emotions
I wanna tell you my friend, I'd like to do it again
There's no reason or rhyme
Spendin' time on the shore, I'd like to do it some more
It's just a wonderful waste of time
It's a wonderful waste of time, just a wonderful waste of time
A wonderful waste of time, it's a wonderful waste of time
A wonderful waste of time, a wonderful waste of time
I come here today, I'm kind of nervous
You know how words get in my way
It should come easy, I've been rehearsing
I don't know why I'm so afraid to say
Will you marry me? Put our love and life together
Will you stay with me for always and forever?
On bended knee, would you take this ring?
Will you marry me, please? Will you marry me?
To be with you is what I live for
But at this moment I confess, yes yeah
Though I love you, God knows I love you
Deep down inside I'm scared to death, say yes
Will you marry me? Put our love and life together
Will you stay with me for always and forever?
On bended knee, would you take this ring?
Will you marry me, please? Will you marry me?
On bended knee, on bended knee
Would you take this ring? I will take your ring
Well, I was standing by my window
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away
Ohh, will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by?
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
Hey, undertaker
Hey, undertaker, undertaker, please drive slow
For that body you are haulin'
Lord, I hate, I hate to see her go
Ohh, will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by?
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
I went back home, my home was lonesome
Missed my mother, she was gone
All my brothers, sisters crying
In our home so sad and alone
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by?
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
Well, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave
Ohh, will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by?
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
Ohh, will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by?
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
Lyin' beside you watching you sleepin'
After you've loved me so tenderly
I'm searchin' for some way to tell you
How good it felt when I held you
There's so many ways you get to me
'Cause you've got the touch, it turns me on and on
You light the fire in me, that keeps burning strong
The longer I'm with you, the deeper and deeper in love I fall
You've got the moves, you move me so much, you've got the touch
As you wake up you pull me closer
And whisper good morning warm in my ear
Nobody could do that like you do
You make it so easy to love you
And I know I will for a million years
'Cause you've got the touch, you turn me on and on
You light the fire in me, that keeps growing strong
The longer I'm with you, the deeper and deeper in love I fall
You've got the moves, that move me so much, you've got the touch
Nobody can touch me like you do
You make it so easy to love you
And I know I will a million years
'Cause you've got the touch, you turn me on and on
You light the fire in me, that keeps growing strong
The longer I'm with you, the deeper and deeper in love I fall
You've got the moves, that move me so much, you've got the touch
Oh, we had a good night last night
Like every other night
We made love and everything was just right
(Just right)
Oh, lovin' you is as fresh as a dew in early morning
And you're my explanation for living
And you're my, my explanation for living, mm
Without your sweet, sweet love, I'd be nothing
Oh, I'd be just like a baby without it's bottle
With a tear stained face
And I'd be empty as the week without days
Oh, and I'd be like a river without water that was running
And you're my explanation for living
Oh, you took me to the wine and the roses
Yes, you did, baby
You did some magic with your pocket full of posies
Oh, you give me everything
Oh, yes, you do
And somehow you keep right on giving
You're my explanation for living
And you're my, my explanation for living
Without your sweet, sweet love, I'd be nothing
Oh, I'd be just like a baby without it's bottle
With a tear stained face
And I'd be empty as the week without it's days
Oh, and I'd be like a river without water that was running
And you're my explanation for living
Oh, you give me everything
Oh, yes, you do
And somehow, baby, you keep right on giving
Look at those evening shadows
Casting a peaceful light
The sun is disappearing
It's a beautiful sight
Moments caught forever
By the master's touch
A lasting reminder
To us
You only paint the picture once
(And) you only get one chance
Take the time to do your best
While the brush is in your hand
Make sure it's just right
Before the colors dry
You can't change it once it's done
You only paint the picture once
Love is the canvas
That's where it all starts
A lifetime together
Becomes a work of art
Just look what's been created
Between your heart and mine
Oh I believe that we're one of a kind
You only paint the picture once
(And) you only get one chance
Take the time to do your best
While the brush is in your hand
Make sure it's just right
Before the colors dry
You can't change it once it's done
You only paint the picture once
It's a portrait of life
You can't live it twice
Atlanta, Georgia made her the Ctoon Queen
L.A. bound, she had visions of the silver screen
But Hollywood ain't nothin' but glamor and lights
To a blue-eyed blond with stars in her eyes
Her days are long, Lord, her nights are longer yet
Tryin' to find a part that will make her the Queen of Sex
She's realizin' what it's all about
From too many nights upon the casting couch
Hollywood parties and thrills
The mansion in her mind is somewhere in Beverly Hills
She's been discovered too many times
Standing on the corner of Hollywood and Vince
She makes her entrance now a days through the swingin' doors
She found her stage on a hardwood barroom floor
But it's not the bottom, just part of a long, hard fall
Her biggest fan's the man tonight she'll give her all
The dream is dyin' of her name on the marquee
The folks back home wonder what happened to their Queen
The mornin' papers told it in black and white
Calling it another Hollywood suicide
Hollywood parties and thrills
The mansion in her mind is somewhere in Beverly Hills
She's been discovered too many times
Lord knows I've made mistakes
Not of which I'm proud but I got down on my knees
And begged him please to hear me somehow
Forgive me of my sins and show me the light
Let me follow in the truth, dedicate my life to you
So in the end I'll be alright
So when it's my time to go, I've done all that I can
I'll have a smile on my face as I join the angel band
So please, don't cry cause in my heart I'll know
I've got Jesus on my side so my soul will be alright
When it comes my time to go
There's no easy way around, it's a climb up to the top
But if we keep the faith, live for you each day
Believe with all I've got
Stay humble as a child
Then when this old life is through
I won't be alone, Christ will take me home
Like he promised he would do
So when it comes my time to go and I've done all that I can
I'll have a smile on my face as I join the angel band
So please, don't cry cause in my heart I'll know
I've got Jesus on my side so my soul will be alright
When it comes my time to go
I've got Jesus on my side so my soul will be alright
It'll creep up on you like a kudzu vine
Even miles above the Mason-Dixon line
'Til one day you're craving hominy grits
And scanning the jukebox for George Jones hits
Drinkin' Jack Black tryin' to kick back
'Til the condo's looking like a shotgun shack
You'll be one of us no matter where you're at
When it all goes south
(You'll be drivin' around on a John Deere tractor)
When it all goes south
(Wearing baseball caps but they won't be backwards)
Now it really don't matter what state you're in
One day the south's gonna rise again
There's a Wall Street wonder boy sittin' up north
Throwing darts like a monkey at a stock report
He's got two homes, car loans, in debt
And his third divorce ain't even final yet
Traded his MBA for a SUV on a backwoods road down in Tennessee
'Cause man, Manhattan ain't the place to be
When it all goes south
(With the live oak trees and the sweet magnolias)
When it all goes south
(Eatin' moon pies, drinking RC colas)
Now it really don't matter what state you're in
Someday the south's gonna rise again
When it all goes south
(Where the fog's as thick as Mississippi mud)
When it all goes south
(You'll be singing the blues 'cause it's in your blood)
Now it really don't matter what state you're in
One day the south's gonna rise again
When it all goes south
(You'll be drivin' around on a John Deere tractor)
When it all goes south
(Wearing baseball caps but they won't be backwards)
When it all goes south
(With the live oak trees and the sweet magnolias)
When it all goes south
(Eatin' moon pies, drinking RC colas)
Vicksburg, Birmingham, Natchez and Savannah, Panama City
Y'all sure look pretty in the sunshine
Getting' dixiefried get yourself some rebel pride
When it all goes south
(Where the fog's as thick as Mississippi mud)
When it all goes south
(You'll be singing the blues 'cause it's in your blood)
Now it really don't matter what state you're in
One day the south's gonna rise again
When it all goes south
(You'll be drivin' around on a John Deere tractor)
When it all goes south
(Wearing baseball caps but they won't be backwards)
When it all goes south
(With the live oak trees and the sweet magnolias)
When it all goes south
(Eatin' moon pies, drinking RC colas)
When it all goes south
(Where the fog's as thick as Mississippi mud)
When it all goes south
(You'll be singing the blues 'cause it's in your blood)
When it all goes south
(You'll be drivin' around on a John Deere tractor)
When it all goes south
(Wearing baseball caps but they won't be backwards)
(With the live oak trees and the sweet magnolias)
(Eatin' moon pies, drinking RC colas)
When it all goes south
(Where the fog's as thick as Mississippi mud)
When it all goes south
(You'll be singing the blues 'cause it's in your blood)
(When it all goes south)
When it all goes south
Chorus:
I'm in a hurry to get things done
Oh I rush and rush until life's no fun
All I really got to do is live and die
But I'm in a hurry and don't know why
Don't know why
I have to drive so fast
My car has nothing to prove
It's not new, but it'll do 0 to 60 in 5.2
chorus
Can't be late
That leaves me plenty of time
Shakin' hands with the clock
I can't stop, I'm on a roll and ready to rock
chorus
I hear a voice
It says I'm runnin' behind
I better pick up my pace
It's a race and there ain't no room
For someone in second place
break
Whisper to me softly, breathe words upon my skin.No one's near and listeningso please, don't say goodbye.Just hold me close and love me,press your lips to mine. Mmmm, MmmmFeels so right.Feels so right.
Lying here beside youI hear the echos of your sighs.Promise me you'll stay with meand keep me warm tonight. So hold me close and love me,give my heart a smile
Mmmm, MmmmFeels so right.Feels so right.
Your body feels so gentle, and my passion's rising high. You're loving me so easy...your wish is my command.Just hold me close and love me,tell me it won't end.
Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
How sweet on a clear Sabbath morning
To listen to the clear ringing bells
It's tones so sweetly are calling
Oh, come to the church in the vale
Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
There she sleeps close by the church in the valley
Lies one that I love so well
She sleeps, sweetly sleeps, neath the willow
Disturb not her rest in the vale
Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
There close by the site of that loved one
Neath the tree where the wild flowers bloom
When farewell hymns shall be chanted
I shall rest by her side in the tomb
Come to the church by the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the vale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale
It was almost Christmas time
There I stood in another line
Tryin to buy that last gift or two
Not really in the Christmas mood
Standin right in front of me
Was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes
And his clothes were worn and old
He was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldnt believe what I heard him say
Sir, I wanna buy these shoes
For my mama, please
Its Christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir?
Daddy says theres not much time
You see, shes been sick for quite a while
And I, know these shoes will make her smile
And I, want her to look beautiful
If mama meets Jesus tonight
He counted pennies for what seemed like years
And the, cashier said Son, theres not enough here.
He searched his pockets franticly
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Most years she just did without
Tell me, sir, what am I gonna do
Somehow Ive gotta buy her these Christmas shoes
So I laid the money down
I just had to help him out
And Ill never forget the look on his face
when he said Mamas gonna look so great
Sir, I wanna buy these shoes
For my mama, please
Its Christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir?
Daddy says theres not much time
You see, shes been sick for quite a while
And I, know these shoes will make her smile
And I, want her to look beautiful
If mama meets Jesus tonight
I knew I caught a glimpse of heaven love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that god had sent that little boy to remind me
What Christmas is all about
Sir, I wanna buy these shoes
For my mama, please
Its Christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir?
Daddy says theres not much time
You see, shes been sick for quite a while
And I, know these shoes will make her smile
And I, want her to look beautiful
If mama meets Jesus tonight
I want her to look beautiful
Clear water blues, thinkin' of you
Sittin' here fishin', catchin' a few
Spendin' my days just tryin' to lose
These clear water blues
Clear water blues driftin' along
Nowhere to go, now that you're gone
My lonely heart don't know what to do
With these clear water blues
Lookin' out across the ocean
Blue is all I see
And it seems like no matter how far I go
Your memory just won't set me free
Clear water blues won't leave me alone
Keeps on remindin' me why you're gone
My reflection is showin' a fool
In these clear water blues
Clear water blues, still thinkin' of you
Sittin' here fishin', catchin' a few
Spendin' my days just tryin' to lose
These clear water blues
Just outside of Austin, I turned on my radio
Turned it in to a satellite station, she was talkin' on a call-in show
She said it was over, she'd made her choice
Her mind was made-up by the sound of her voice
Clear across America tonight, clear coast-to-coast tonight
She's long gone, she's outta here but she's comin' through
Loud and clear, clear across America tonight
Sounded like he really had it coming, all the times
He'd done her wrong, she said, "I hope he's listening"
And hung-up the telephone, all of a sudden I realized
It was me she was telling goodbye
Clear across America tonight, clear coast-to-coast tonight
She's long gone, she's outta here but she's comin' through
Loud and clear, clear across America tonight
Hello DJ, put me on the air
Give me the chance to tell her I still care
Get her back on the line, tell her I'm still in love
Said, "Sorry son, but you're breaking up"
Clear across America tonight, clear coast-to-coast tonight
She's long gone, she's outta here but she's comin' through
Loud and clear, across America tonight
Across America tonight, clear across America tonight
Hello baby, I'll be by to pick you up at eight
Wear that red dress
You know the one you wore on our first date
Ease into my Chevrolet
We're gonna listen to those oldies play, behind the wheel
We'll go cruisin', cruisin' on Saturday night
We'll be groovin', groovin' in the radio light
It don't matter where we go or, baby, what we do
As long as I'm cruisin', cruisin' with you
There's the drive-in
The place where you and I shared our first kiss
There in the moonlight
Love was shining on a night like this
Slide on over next to me
We're gonna make some new memories
So hold on tight
We'll go cruisin', cruisin' on Saturday night
We'll be groovin', groovin' in the radio light
It don't matter where we go or, baby, what we do
As long as I'm cruisin', cruisin' with you
We'll go cruisin', cruisin' on Saturday night
We'll be groovin', groovin' in the radio light
It don't matter where we go or, baby, what we do
As long as I'm cruisin', cruisin' with you
Now, it don't matter where we go
Or, baby, what we do
As long as I'm cruisin', cruisin' with you
Baby, let's go cruisin', cruisin' on Saturday night
We'll be groovin', groovin' in the radio light
You can have your buildings
And your arithmetic
I don't need no crowded streets
Or city slicker tricks
I just need to be some place
Where I can move around
Look down at my toes
And I can still see the ground
Give me that country side of life
Where I can stretch out right
Give me the country side
(Give me the country side)
Give me that country side of life
Where I don't get uptight
Give me the country side
Goin' down to the fishing pond
Where I can throw the line
It don't matter what fish I catch
I only came to rest my mind
The only fish you'll get down town
Ain't caught with a hook and sinker
Put on your brakes, beep beep, honk your horn
Look out now turn on your blinker
Give me that country side of life
Where I can stretch out right
Give me the country side
(Give me the country side)
Give me that country side of life
Where I don't get uptight
Give me the country side
Give me that country side of life
Where I don't get uptight
Give me the country side
I was born in Georgia Town
With a lack-a-daisy street
A laid back lover just a-playin' games
And a-stayin' off of them feet
But nobody trying to get on your nerves
Nobody tryin' to get what you've got
And just live and let live by the golden rule
Now don't it just hit the spot
Give me that country side of life
Where I can stretch out right
Give me the country side
(Give me the country side)
Give me that country side of life
Where I don't get uptight
Give me the country side
Give me that country side of life
A place where I can stretch out right
Give me the country side
Give me that country side of life
Where I don't get uptight
I'm not a stranger to passion
I've seen a lotta love in my time
I've felt that physical attraction
From a touch in the heat of the night
I've been all over this country
I've started my share of new flames
But after all is said and done
There's only one that remains
Dixie fire burning down in my soul
Dixie fire, it never leaves me cold
It took a hometown girl to show me
How cool these hot summer nights can be
Now, there's a Dixie fire burning in
The heart of me, burning in the heart of me
Searching for some kind of direction
Looking for a guiding light
Needed to see a lighthouse
Like a ship on a stormy night
Somehow you heard my music
You felt the sadness in me
You took the words that were so cold
And added a warm melody
Dixie fire burning down
Burn, burn, burning, burn, burn, burning
Can't you see that I'm burn, burn, burning?
There's a Dixie fire burn, burn, burning
Don't you know that I'm burn, burn, burning
Deep River Woman
Lord I'm comin home to you
Deep River Woman
Lord I know she's waiting
Just anticipating all my love
Spent a night in LA
just another chance to see you
just you and I
Wanted you to know
that my playin days are over
cause all I do is think of you
The writings on the wall
== Chorus ==
I've been out in the world
I guess the fast lif had me going
Now all tha's changed
Finally made up my mind
bout the one thing I've been knowing
You're the only girl
I've ever cared for in this world
== Chorus ==
Your kind of love girl is forever
Took me a long time to realize
that I've come so far to end up going nowhere
Girl I need you by my side
== Chorus ==
She sits and stares out the window at the water
Every night down at [Incomprehensible] Cafe
All alone she sips her pina colada
Talkin' to herself, dreamin' time away
The story is that a dark haired stranger
Stole her heart many years ago
He promised her, he'd come back and take her
Around the world, bring her hills of gold
Down on Longboat Key
Where the island sand meets the Gulf Stream Bridge
Down on Longboat Key
She spends her life in a dream on Longboat Key
Down on Longboat Key
Down on Longboat Key
Each afternoon as the snug boats come in
She runs to meet them down at the pier
She sees the fishermen, the nets and the sunset
But she don't see him, her eyes fill with tears
She stands there lookin' at the crystal blue water
And in the coral she imagines pearls
She makes believe, he brought them all the way from China
Then the water swirls, the blue-green water swirls
Down on Longboat Key
Where the island sand meets the Gulf Stream Bridge
Down on Longboat Key
She spends her life in a dream on Longboat Key
Down on Longboat Key
Down on Longboat Key
Young sailors make a play to take her home
She says, "No, I'm already taken"
Oh, they just laugh when she mentions his name
She just keeps on waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting
Down on Longboat Key
Where the island sand meets the Gulf Stream Bridge
Down on Longboat Key
She spends her life in a dream
Down on Longboat Key
Down on Longboat Key yeah yeah
Down on Longboat Key
Where the island sand meets the Gulf Stream Bridge
Down on Longboat Key
Down on Longboat Key yeah yeah

Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth
Gone, gone by the wind
There ain't nobody looking back again
Cotton on the roadside, cotton in the ditch
We all picked the cotton but we never got rich
Daddy was a veteran, a southern democrat
They ought to get a rich man to vote like that
Sing it
Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth
Gone, gone by the wind
There ain't nobody looking back again
Well somebody told us Wall Street fell
But we were so poor that we couldn't tell
Cotton was short and the weeds were tall
But Mr. Roosevelt's a gonna save us all
Well momma got sick and daddy got down
The county got the farm and they moved to town
Papa got a job with the TVA
He bought a washing machine and then a Chevrolet
Sing it
Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth
Gone, gone by the wind
There ain't nobody looking back again
Play it
Sing it
Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth
Gone, gone by the wind
There ain't nobody looking back again
Song, song of the south
Gone, gone with the wind
Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth
Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth
Sing it
Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth
Gone, gone by the wind
Ain't nobody looking back again
Song, song of the south
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth
Gone, gone by the wind
Ain't nobody looking back again
Song, song of the south
In Alabama nineteen fifty eight
The cost of human life is very low
A man that's flag is trampled down
Just like them were is thousand years ago
Chorus:
But these are more enlightened days
No room for all these savage ways
Leave them, let them go
Now every man may walk his roads in peace
For all are free
Two thousand years ago a million men
Were gathered into Royal Egypt's land
Were bound together, forced to build
The pyramids of stone and desert sand
Chorus,
Mary's son walked through a land of woe
Dreaming of the world as it could be
But for good and lawful men of Rome
Bound them like a robber to a tree
Chorus,
In Britain just a hundred years ago
The jails were full of good and hungry men
Diggers, Fenians many more
Fought and died for growth to fight again
Chorus,
Last year a Negro stole a dollar bill
The judge he said: 'we mustn't be severe
Instead of death we'll give him life
Imprisonment to show that justice is here'
Chorus,
And so throughout the ages you have seen
How progress marches ever on its way
No rack, no wheel, no Spanish boot
For Alabama's prisoners today
Chorus,
In these are more enlightened days
No room for all these savage ways
Leave them, let them go
Now every man should walk his road in peace
Flattop guitar, down around the campfire
You can smell that hickory burnin'
Catfish fryin', onions got us cryin'
Hush puppies they're a turnin'
Friends and kin comin' down the hill
Trippin' in the ole starlight
Cookin' and kickin' do a little pickin'
Party tonight
Come on down to the moonlight lounge
Where the ceilin' is so blue
Where there ain't no door and our dance floor
Is covered with mountain dew
Where there ain't no walls and the waterfall
Is the only sound around
Yeah, we're havin' us a party down in the holler
We call it the moonlight lounge
Me and my lady rode in on Sadie
A fourteen hand chestnut mare
A midnight hoot owl
He's screechin' so loud
Kind of puts a chill in the summer air
The bushes are wigglin', somebody's gigglin'
Buck couldn't wait to get a kiss
Jimmy's got the four wheel hooked to the wagon
A hay ride you don't wanna miss
Come on down to the moonlight lounge
Where the ceilin' is so blue
Where there ain't no door and our dance floor
Is covered with mountain dew
Where there ain't no walls and the waterfall
Is the only sound around
Yeah, we're havin' us a party down in the holler
We call it the moonlight lounge
Won't you come on down to the moonlight lounge
Where the ceilin' is so blue
Where there ain't no door and our dance floor
Is covered with mountain dew
Where there ain't no walls and the waterfall
Is the only sound around
Yeah, we're havin' us a party down in the holler
We call it the moonlight lounge
Yeah we're havin' us a party, everybody holler
We live in the land of plenty
But many things aren't plenty anymore
Like the water from our sink they say it's not safe to drink
You gotta go and buy it at the store
Now we're told there's a hole in the ozone
Look what's washing on the beach
And Lord, I believe from the heavens to the seas
We're bringing mother nature to her knees
So let's leave some blue up above us
Let's leave some green on the ground
It's only ours to borrow let's save some for tomorrow
Leave it and pass it on down
Well there's a change taking place way on the mountains
Acid rain is falling on the leaves
And down in Brazil the fires are burning still
How we gonna breathe without them trees?
So let's leave some blue up above us
Let's leave some green on the ground
It's only ours to borrow let's save some for tomorrow
Leave it and pass it on down
There's a place where I live called the Canyon
Where daddy taught me to swim
And that water it's so pure and I'm gonna make sure
Daddy's grandkids can swim there like him
Now we all oughta feel just a little bit guilty
When we look into the eyes of our kids
'Cause brothers it's a fact, if we take and don't put back
They'll have to pay for all we did
So let's leave some blue up above us
Let's leave some green on the ground
It's only ours to borrow let's save some for tomorrow
Leave it and pass it on down
So let's leave some blue up above us
Let's leave some green on the ground
It's only ours to borrow let's save some for tomorrow
Leave it and pass it on down
So let's leave some blue up above us
Let's leave some green on the ground
It's only ours to borrow let's save some for tomorrow
Leave it and pass it on down
So let's leave some blue up above us
Let's leave some green on the ground
It's only ours to borrow let's save some for tomorrow
Leave it and pass it on down
If I could design forever
I'd put you and me together each night
Together each night
The best I can do is promise
I'll love you true and honest and right
I'll love you right
Starting tonight and from now on
I will be yours and yours alone
Dependable and strong, a rock by your side
I'll be beside you through the stom
You'll have a fire to keep you warm
Not just for now but from now on, starting tonight
If a man ever loved a woman
Then surely this is the moment for me
The moment for me
I've never known a feeling
So deep, so real as being with you
As being with you
Starting tonight and from now on
I will be yours and yours alone
Dependable and strong, a rock by your side
I'll be beside you through the stom
You'll have a fire to keep you warm
I worry all day and I can't go to sleep at night
Thinking about baby and wondering who's holding her tight tonight
People say I've been a fool too long, too long
All my friends still ask me why I keep hanging on and on
And I say, you'll never know until it happens to you
You'll never know all that I'm going through
Love ain't something that flies away
Somebody goes but the feeling stays
And you'll never know until it happens to you
Saturday's rollin' and everybody's rockin' but me
I should go to town but I don't want no company, no, no, no
Friends say I should be out having fun with someone
I know it's true but if they only knew it's easier said than done, oh yeah
And I say, you'll never know until it happens to you
You'll never know all that I'm going through
Love ain't something that flies away
Somebody goes but the feeling stays
And you'll never know until it happens to you
Friends say I've been a fool too long, much too long
They just don't understand why I sit at home all alone by the phone
And I say, you'll never know until it happens to you
You'll never know all that I'm going through
You'll never know, oh no, you'll never know, whoa
Before I fly and wave goodbye
I say to you ";Days with you are the best years of my life";
But if I don't see you anymore
Keep my words safely stored
And I'll be back I promise once more
Chorus:
Goodbye, goodbye
Till I see you again
Goodbye, goodbye
I'll love and I'll miss you till then
Remember me 'cause I care
Where you are and how you fare
Get in touch if the wind blows in your face
I guess it's been too much fun
We've shared and we've won
Yes the best is yet to come
Repeat chorus
That one word hurts so bad
You leave the best you've had
But you keep the faith and pray to return
Goodbye, goodbye
I'll love and I'll miss you till then
Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye

I live to work and work to live
Oh, but what I wouldn't give
For a ray of sun and a little piece of beach
Where the sand dollar is the only currency
I vote we go to the Gulf of Mexico, you and me by the sea
Palm trees call me, oh that's the place I want to be
Down where the southern breezes blow
On the Gulf of Mexico
Right at five o'clock today
I'll pick you up, we'll drive away
And I can't wait to feel the sand beneath my toes
And I can almost see the sunburn on your nose
I vote we go to the Gulf of Mexico, you and me by the sea
Palm trees call me, oh that's the place I want to be
Down where the southern breezes blow
On the Gulf of Mexico
Vamos we go
I vote we go to the Gulf of Mexico, you and me by the sea
Palm trees call me, oh that's the place I want to be
Down where the southern breezes blow
On the Gulf of Mexico
Tag down where the southern breezes blow
On the Gulf of Mexico
On the Gulf of Mexico
That's the place I want to be
Down where the southern breezes blow
Here we are, once again
Stronger now than we have ever been
Hand in hand, heart to heart
Now we made it through the hardest part
We had to break it all down to build it back up
Lean on each other when the times got rough
How we survive going through so much
Baby you and I could write a book about love
Here we are, one to one
Looking back to see how far we come
We shared it all, you and I
We're still together after all this time
We had to break it all down to build it back up
Lean on each other when the times got rough
How we survive going through so much
Baby you and I could write a book about love
Here we are, once again
We're stronger now than we have ever been
With hand in hand, with heart to heart
Here we are, here we are
Here we are
Here we are
In the cornor of my mind stands a jukebox
It's playin' all my favorite memories
One by one they take me back to the days when you were mine
Oh I can't stop this jukebox in my mind
I don't need no quaters
don't need any dimes
You filled it up forever when you said good-bye
Heavens knows I love old melodies that were meant to ease the pain
But the kind that's playin' on my mind are drivin' me insane
(Chorus)
In the cornor of my mind stands a jukebox
It's playin' all my favorite memories
One by one they take me back to the days when you were mine
No, I can't stop this jukebox in my mind
(repeat chorus)
You always come around this time of year
With your big ole bag that's full of Christmas cheer
And when it starts to snow the little boys and girls
All know soon they'll hear the sound of your reindeer
Now sometimes grown ups grow up to believe
That you don't really come on Christmas Eve
But I don't think that's true 'cause I know
I see you in sparking little eyes around the tree
Oh Santa Claus, I still believe in you
And there's still a kid inside of me that still believes you're true
Oh Santa Claus, the kids are tucked in tight
And it's time to play ole Santa Clause tonight
Well I don't see how anybody could ever doubt
That there's really a Santa Clause
Not if they've ever seen a little girl with her arms
Wrapped around her baby doll
So tight both of 'em waking up
Mama and Daddy way before daylight
And Grandma and Grandpa are looking young and full of life
Just knowin' that their grandkids are gonna be alright
And Mama and Daddy, they'll be
Waitin' up to answer ole Santa's call
'Cause tonight they ain't worried about the bills
Lord they're just lovin' it all
Oh Santa Claus, I still believe in you
And there's still a kid inside of me that still believes you're true
Oh Santa Claus, the kids are tucked in tight
And I'll be waiting up for you tonight, ho ho ho
I'll admit I could feel it
The first time that we touched
And the look in your eyes
Said you felt as much
But I'm not a man
Who falls too easily
It's best that you know
Where you stand with me
Chorus:
I will give you my heart
Faithful and true
And all the love it can hold
That's all I can do
'Cause I've thought about
How long I'll love you
And it's only fair that you know
Forever's as far as I'll go
When there's age around my eyes
And gray in your hair
And it only takes a touch
To recall the love we've shared
I won't take for granted
You'll know my love is true
'Cause each night in your arms
I'll whisper to you
Repeat chorus
Rock of ages, cleft for me
Let me hide myself in Thee
Let the water and the blood
From Thy wounded side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure
Save from wrath and make me pure
Let the water and the blood
From Thy wounded side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure
Save from wrath and make me pure
While I draw this fleeting breath
When my eyes shall close in death
When I saw two worlds unknown
And see beyond Thy golden throne
Rock of ages, cleft for me
Let me hide myself in Thee
Let me hide myself in Thee
She and I live in our own little world
Don't worry about the world outside
She and I agree, she and I lead a perfectly normal life
Ah but just because we aren't often seen socially
People think we've something to hide
But all our friends know we're just a little old fashioned
She and I
Oh ain't it great, aint it fine
To have a lover someone that others can't find
Ain't it wonderful to know, all we ever need is just the two of us
She and I, so wonderful, she and I
Ah she and I share with every body else
The same wants, needs and desires
Ah she and I save, she and I pay on everything we acquire
Ah but just because we aren't often seen separately
People think we live one life
Its hard for them to see how anyone could be
As close as she and I
Oh ain't it great, well aint it fine
To have a lover someone that others can't find
Ain't it wonderful to know, all we ever need is just the two of us
She and I
She and I live in our own little world
Ain't it wonderful
She and I live in our own little world
Ain't it wonderful
Ain't it fine fine fine
Ain't it wonderful
So wonderful
[Incomprehensible]
She and I are so wonderful
Ah she and I live in our own little world, yeah yeah
Ain't it great, ain't it fine, so wonderful
She and I
I remember campin' all night down by the river's edge
Skinny dippin' in the bright moonlight, divin' off a ledge
Skippin' rocks across the water, fishin' on an old trout line
Gigging frogs till the early mornin', smokin' dried cross vine
Take me back down where the Red River rolls
Send me back to Lou'sianne
Take me back down where the white water flows
To the Cajun promised land
Give me my line and my old pirogue
Get me back as fast as you can
Take me back home where the Red River rolls
Take me back home where the Red River rolls
Floatin' down the river on a patched up inner tube
Eatin' dinner on the ground, made of fresh caught catfish stew
Lay awake at night when I hear a wildcat scream
Tellin' takes around the camp fire light about the girls in our dreams
Take me back down where the Red River rolls
Send me back to Lou'sianne
Take me back down where the white water flows
To the Cajun promised land
Give me my line and my old pirogue
Get me back as fast as you can
Take me back home where the Red River rolls
Take me back home where the Red River rolls
Take me back down where the Red River rolls
Send me back to Lou'sianne
Take me back down where the white water flows
To the Cajun promised land
Give me my line and my old pirogue
Get me back as fast as you can
Take me back home where the Red River rolls
Take me back home where the Red River rolls
New year's eve 1999
Well, it's time for my vacation
It's time for me to have some fun
Yes, it's time for my vacation
I wanna lay out in the sun way down in Florida
'Cause I been workin' every weekend
I been workin' overtime
Now it's time for my vacation
Havin' nothin' on my mind, that's right
Goin' swimmin' in the blue hole
And fishin' with an ol' cane pole
'Cause I can't be like Walter Mitty
It must be real, I must be right
'Cause it's dog eat dog to the pinnacle
And success is an uphill fight
I am fresh and clean every mornin'
And dead on my feet every night
Said it's time for my vacation
It's time for me to have some fun
Yes, it's time for my vacation
And lay out in the sun all day long
We are back to basics
And count my blessin's one by one
We're up for school by seven
Got exams all week long
It's been study, study, study
But come Friday, gonna be gone
I'm gonna get out of here
R and R on Saturday and Sunday
And party, party on and on
Well, I've been drivin' on the freeway
Traffic slipped and traffic slide
It's wall to wall insanity
Blowin' horns or showin' lights
Should I wind my watch in frustration
Or should I go flying high, no
Gonna take my vacation
Travel on beach to have some fun
'Cause it's time for my vacation
I wanna lay out in the sun, all day long
Headed back for Mother Nature
You're laying right beside me, but you're a million miles away
And if I ask you what's the matter you don't have much to say
And I can tell that I'm not standing where I stood with you before
And we can't love like this, anymore
Sometimes it makes me angry, but mostly it just hurts
I thought time might make it better but it's only made it worse
And I can't climb these walls you're building
And I can't unlock the door and we can't love like this anymore
We're coming to a crossroad, I can tell
I'm not sure we'd be this lonely by ourselves
But I won't give up as long as there's a chance
So where we go from here is in your hands
Just say it's over and at least I'll know for sure
That we can't love like this anymore
We were all we ever wanted
Before there was a single brick in this wall
That keeps the distance here between us
We built a life but we forgot we already had it all
When we made love, we made love
Baby we had something
That nothing else could touch
We made love
Through the lonely that divides us
And I can feel you reachin' from the other side
Let's tear this wall down and start over
And get back to oh that simple life
When we made love and we made love
Baby we had something
That nothing else could touch
And we made love
We're just past the doubt
Beyond the hurt
We're not too far
From where we were
When we made love, we made love
Baby we've got something
That nothing else can touch
After I leave for worlds unknown
Over the border line
Never again on earth to know
What will I leave behind?
Leave behind, oh, leave behind
What will I leave behind?
After I leave for worlds unknown
What will I leave behind?
Will I be missed by those I love
Or have I been unkind?
And have I been true to God above
What will I leave behind?
Leave behind, oh, leave behind
What will I leave behind?
After I leave for worlds unknown
The city's full of manger scenes
And stores lit up in red and green
But down the road just out of town
There's more magic to be found
The countryside is all a-glow
With holly trees and mistletoe
And in them woods there lives a bear
Known to all as Thistlehair
(Not Thistlehear)
Oh, Thistlehair the Christmas bear
Spreadin' the good news everywhere
About Christmas time and what it means
To all the children of the world
Every little boy and girl
Out there, love Thistlehair
(Not Thistlehear)
He comes around this time of year
Spreading lots of Christmas cheer
The kids all love this shiny coat
And the smell of honey on his nose
He tells them all about that star
And everything that it stands for
The birthday we all celebrate
Is still our favorite holiday
Oh, Thistlehair the Christmas bear
Spreadin' the good news everywhere
About Christmas time and what it means
To all the children of the world
Every little boy and girl
Out there, love Thistlehair
(Not Thistlehear)
Wherever you find old Thistlebear
There'll be music in the air
He dances 'round the Christmas tree
Every single New Year's eve
Then he and all his furry friends
Gather 'round the fire again
Singin' 'Bout those Angels' wings
Gifts of love that Christmas brings
Oh, Thistlehair the Christmas bear
Spreadin' the good news everywhere
About Christmas time and what it means
To all the children of the world
Every little boy and girl
Out there, love Thistlehair
(Not Thistlehear)
Thistlehair the Christmas bear
(My song has all of this at end?)
Spreadin' the good news everywhere
About Christmas time and what it means
To all the children of the world
Thistlehair the Christmas bear
Spreadin' the good news everywhere
About Christmas time and what it means
To all the children of the world
Thistlehair the Christmas bear
The factories are all shut down and the shopping malls are all closed
And the busy streets are all empty except for the falling snow
And in the small towns, in the cities families gather as one
'Cause the night of love and sharing they look forward to has come
'Cause tonight is Christmas, tonight is love
Tonight we celebrate God's one and only son
Tonight there's hope for peace on earth eternally
Tonight is Christmas and the world's in harmony
But across the seas two armies stare down at each other's guns
Each believing in their cause enough to die or kill the other one
But tonight there'll be no shooting, not a drop of blood will spill
They will cease their fire this silent night in the name of peace and goodwill
'Cause tonight is Christmas, tonight is love
Tonight we celebrate God's one and only son
Tonight there's hope for peace on earth eternally
Too much love
Too much love
At times I make you crazy
At times I make you sad
Sometimes you make me feel like
There's no one quite as bad
But there's just too much love between us
There's just too much love between us
We can work it out
Oh, I know we can
'Cause it's all left in our hands
If we give ourselves just a little time
It'll all work out just fine
'Cause there's just too much love between us
Yeah, there's just too much love between us
Silence can be deafening
When you don't make a sound
At times you make me wonder
Why you want me around
I guess there's too much love between us
There's just too much love between us
There are rocky roads
And it's touch and go
And there are times to be alone
But there's something deeper
That we can't explain
It's an everlasting flame
Now there's just too much love between us
Now there's just too much love between us
There's just too much love between us
There's just too much love between us
Too much love between us
Too much love between us
(Too much love)
Too much love between us
(Too much)
(Too much love)
Too much love between us
Too much love between us
(Yes there is)
Too much love between us
(Too much love)
Too much love between us
Play us a song we can slow dance on.
We want to hold eachother.
Play us a groove so we hardly move.
Just let our hearts be together.
Oh baby, cause it feels so good
when we're close like this.
Whisper in my ear and let me steal the tears.
Come on and touch me when we're dancin
You know you've got that lovin touch
Oh oh touch me when we're dancin
I want to feel you when I'm falling in love
Tonights the night and it feels so right
What my heart's saying to me
You're the one and I've waited so long
So let your love flow thru me
Oh baby cause it feels so good we can be this close
You got me up so high
I could fly coast to coast
Come on and touch me when we're dancin
You know you've got that lovin touch
Oh oh touch me when we're dancin
As I lay by your side and hold you tonight, I want you to understand
This love that I feel is so right and so real and I realize how lucky I am
And should you ever wonder if my love is true
There's something that I want to make clear with you
There's no way I could make it without you
There's no way that I'd even try
If I have to survive without you in my life
I know I wouldn't last a day, oh baby, there's no way
Baby I've always loved you
And I hope you know that
It means so much to me whenever I see
That wanting me look in your eyes
And I don't know how I could do without
Holding you close every night
I've waited so long just to have you to hold
And now that I've got you, I'll never let go
There's no way I could make it without you
There's no way that I'd even try
If I had to survive without you in my life
I know I wouldn't last a day, oh babe, there's no way
And I never knew what you give, what I was missin'
Now you say forever, I find my heart is listenin', yes I'm listenin'
There's no way I could make it without you
There's no way that I'd even try
If I had to survive without you in my life
I know I wouldn't last a day, oh babe, there's no way
Sittin' alone at a table for two
When she walked in
I was down on my second love
Swore I'd never do that again
She sat down beside me
And tried to explain
That two bad loves
Don't spoil the whole darn game
The first love lies
The second lover hurts you deep inside
And now that you're free
This love's on me
I thought my life was
At the end of its rope
Without true love
There could be no hope
Then she asked
If I would stay for the night
She said
"Everything's gonna be all right"
The sun came up
The very next day
I knew what she meant
When I heard her say
The first love lies
The second lover hurts you deep inside
Now that you're free
This love's on me
She sat down beside me
And tried to explain
That two bad loves
Don't spoil the whole darn game
The first love lies
The second lover hurts you deep inside
Now that you're free
This love's on me
This love's on me
I'm gonna love away your misery
Soon you will see
This love's on me
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
This love's on me
I'm gonna love away your misery
Now that you see
Down on the river, it's an easy kind of life
Everybody here's feeling fine
No need to worry or get in a hurry
Nothing to spend but time
Light up a smoke and tell a few jokes
And pass the old jug around
We're gonna get right on a Saturday night
When the sun goes down
Down on the river, down on the river
Just some old boys a making a lot of noise
Down on the river, down on the river, down on the river
If anyone calls tell them, we're all down on the river
Well, we'll go fishing by the light of the moon
And bait them hooks by hand
Early in the morning take them off the line
Fry 'em all up in a pan
We gotta get home while we still got a job
Or we'll have to answer to the man
And everybody knows we gotta go
We'll be back again
Down this road there's an old brick house
My mama cried the day that I moved out
And my first summer job was pumpin' gas and fixin' flats
But at Henry Walker's Texaco
Down this road, down this road
Down this road there's a maple tree
In a cotton field where Jenny first kissed me
And I can still remember the night she said goodbye
I stood there like a fool and watched her go
Down this road, down this road
And it goes on forever
And it goes by too fast
It'll take you anywhere you want to go
And every memory will bring you back
Down this road there's a small white church
Daddy lived his life by the preacher's word
He raised me right, I could always feel his love
Even when the angels called him home
Down this road
And it goes on forever
And it goes by too fast
It'll take you anywhere you want to go
And every memory will bring you back
Down this road
Down this road
Running scared, wonderin'
What I'm doin' so far from home
Pretendin' not to care
That I was so alone
Then my eyes met hers
And without one word
I could tell what was gonna happen
I could feel it in my bones
By the dark of the moon
There's a fire in the night
She took me to her room
Oh, ya know it felt so right
The heat's growin' higher
The flame of desire
By the dark of the moon
Oh, there's a fire in the night
When she told me
She didn't often do this kind of thing
She said please hold me
Hold me tight so I don't have to think
Oh, her gentle touch
Really moved me so much
The flames of love swept over us
Like a burning light
By the dark of the moon
There's a fire in the night
She took me to her room
Oh, ya know it felt so right, so right
The heat's growin' higher
The flame of desire
By the dark of the moon
There's a fire in the night
There's a fire in the night
By the dark of the moon
There's a fire in the night
She took me to her room
Oh, ya know it felt so right, oh yeah
The heat's growin' higher
The flame of desire
By the dark of the moon
Oh, there's a fire in the night
There's a fire in the night, baby
We started a fire
Oh yeah, there's a fire in the night
Oh, I'm on fire
By the dark of the moon
There's a fire in the night
There are people in this country who work hard every day
Not for fame or fortune do they strive
But the fruits of their labor are worth more than their pay
And it's time a few of them were recognized
Hello Detroit auto workers, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin' just to send it on down the line
Hello Pittsburgh steel mill workers, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', a-just to send it on down the line
This is for the one who swings the hammer, driving home the nail
Or the one behind the counter, ringing up the sale
Or the one who fights the fires, the one who brings the mail
For everyone who works behind the scenes
You can see them every morning in the factories and the fields
In the city streets and the quiet country towns
Working together like spokes inside a wheel
They keep this country turning around
Hello Kansas wheat field farmer, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin',a-just to send it on down the line
Hello West Virginia coal miner, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line
This is for the one who drives the big rig, up and down the road
Or the one out in the warehouse, bringing in the load
Or the waitress, the mechanic, the policeman on patrol
For everyone who works behind the scenes
With a spirit you can't replace with no machine
Run your fingers through my hair
And softly kiss my lips
And hold me close in your embrace
And love me face to face
Face to face, heart to heart, body to body
Tingling tangle feelings lovers face to face
I'll caress your body
And hold you close to me
I'll slide my hands around your waist
And love you face to face
Face to face, heart to heart, body to body
Lips on lips, arm and arm, body to body
Tingling tangle feelings lovers face to face
Softly say you love me
As you make love to me
No one else can take your place
Thinking of the faces I've seen
Back when I was young and green
I was falling back then
But now I'm workin' on building a fire
And flirtin' with that ol' desire
And fallin' again into the wind
I fall in, in again
I fall in love again
I'm fallin' again
Well, l you'd think that I would learn by now
To keep from fallin' somehow
But I'm fallin' again
'Cause when I caught that look in your eyes
That's when I realized
I was fallin' again into the wind
I fall in, in again
I fall in love again
Fall, fall, fall, fallin' again
Fall, fall, fall, fallin' again
Fall, fall, fall, fallin' again
Fall, fall, fall, fallin' again
I fall in, in again
I fall in love again
Fallin' again into the wind
Fall, fall, fall, fallin' again
Fall, fall, fall, fallin' again
I fall in, in again
I fall in love again
Life ain't all that easy I can testify to that
It's been up and down and round and round to get to where I'm at
If you could see how I'm living in this old car I drive
Well you'd probably wonder and even ponder why I even wanna stay alive
So give me one more shot, I'll give it all I've got
"Let me open my eyes to a new sunrise", I pray
Give me one more chance, I'll learn to dance the dance
I'm satisfied just being alive, give me one more day
I could complain about taxes or the weather we're having today
Go on and on about things that are wrong from New York to L.A.
Well that's just not my nature to sit around feeling sad
We're only here for awhile so why not smile hey, living ain't all that bad
So give me one more shot, I'll give it all I've got
"Let me open my eyes to a new sunrise", I pray
Give me one more chance, I'll learn to dance the dance
I'm satisfied just being alive, give me one more day
When I look around there's lots of folks worse off than me
So I just thank the good Lord and ask Him please
Give me one more shot I'll give it all I've got
"Let me open my eyes to a new sunrise", I pray
And give me one more chance, I'll learn to dance the dance
Well I'm satisfied just being alive, give me one more day
I'm satisfied just being alive, give me one more day
Give me one more shot, I'll give it all I've got
Give me one more day
Show me the way and give me one more day
Can this be true? Tell me, can this be real?
How can I put into words what I feel?
My life was complete, I thought I was whole
Why do I feel like I'm losing control?
I never knew that love could feel like this
Then you changed my world with just one kiss
How can it be that right here with me there's an Angel?
It's a miracle
Your love is like a river, peaceful and deep
Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep
When I look into your eyes I know that it's true
God must of spent a little more time on you
A little more time, I'm sure he did, yes he did
In all of creation, all things great and small
You are the one that surpasses them all
More precious than any diamond or pearl
They broke the mold when you came in this world
And I'm trying hard to figure out
Just how I ever did without
The warmth of your smile, the heart of a child
It's deep inside and leaves me purified
Your love is like a river, peaceful and deep
Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep
When I look into your eyes I know that it's true
God must of spent a little more time on you
Yes he did, yes he did
I never knew that love could feel like this
Then you changed my world with just one kiss
How can it be that right here with me there's an Angel?
It's just a miracle
Your love is like a river, peaceful and deep
Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep
When I look into your eyes I know that it's true
God must of spent a little more time on you
God must of spent a little more time on you, on you
Just punched the clock and boy, am I ready?
Walkin' out the door headin' home
It's time to buckle up again in my rolling hunk of tin
It's quittin' time the evenin' race is on
It's that five o'clock 500 and I run it every day
Pick up trucks, cars and buses all in my way
We've got Darrel, we've got Dale, Richard, Mark, Rusty and Jeff
Oh, the boss just dropped the green we're on our way
It's that five o'clock 500 every day
Oh, Bubba's runnin' right on my bumper
Pushin' me but there's no where to go
Lane changin' left and right, blowin' horns and blinkin' lights
Oh, the fast lane has never been so slow
It's that five o'clock 500 and I run it every day
Pick up trucks, cars and buses all in my way
We've got Darrel, we've got Dale, Richard, Mark, Rusty and Jeff
Oh, the boss just dropped the green we're on our way
It's that five o'clock 500 every day
Well, the caution is out we're at a stand still
Heard there's construction up ahead
Won't be long so they say, soon we'll all be on our way
Some trucker on the CB just said
It's that five o'clock 500 and I run it every day
Pick up trucks, cars and buses all in my way
We've got Darrel, we've got Dale, Richard, Mark, Rusty and Jeff
Oh, the boss just dropped the green we're on our way
It's that five o'clock 500, five o'clock 500, five o'clock 500 every day
Every day, every day, every day
My dad was a big man with a will that was tough
He was at his best when the going was rough
He made a living for the family and never had to cheat
To keep food on the table and shoes on our feet
We sat down at the table and thanked God in prayer
'Cause we had plenty to eat and plenty to wear
We had patches on our britches but momma kept us neat
We had food on the table and shoes on our feet
We picked the cotton and gathered the corn
We were taught to work from the day we were born
Mom and dad and all us children worked in the summer's heat
To keep food on the table and shoes on our feet
We sat down at the table and thanked God in prayer
'Cause we had plenty to eat and plenty to wear
We had patches on our britches but momma kept us neat
We had food on the table and shoes on our feet
Well today it's the same no matter where you go
If you're gonna stay ahead you've gotta stay on your toes
You've gotta be a winner don't believe in defeat
If you keep food on the table and shoes on your feet
When you sit down at the table thank God in prayer
If you've got plenty to eat and plenty to wear
If you've got patches on your britches just be sure to keep 'em neat
If you've got food on the table and shoes on your feet
We sat down at the table and thanked God in prayer
'Cause we had plenty to eat and plenty to wear
We had patches on our britches but momma kept us neat
Oh, play me some mountain music
Like grandma and grandpa used to play
Then I'll float on down the river
To a Cajun hideaway
Drift away like Tom Sawyer
Ride a raft with ol' Huck Finn
Take a nap like rip van winkle
Daze dreamin' again
Oh, play me some mountain music
Like grandma and grandpa used to play
Then I'll float on down the river
To a Cajun hideaway
Swim across the river, just to prove that I'm a man
Spend the day bein' lazy, just bein' nature's friend
Climb a long tall hickory, bend it over, skinnin' cats
Playin' baseball with chert rocks, using sawmill slabs for bats
Play some back-home, come-on music
That comes from the heart
Play something with lots of feelin'
'Cause that's where music has to start
Oh, play me some mountain music
Like grandma and grandpa used to play
Then I'll float on down the river
To a Cajun hideaway, hey hey
Oh, play me mountain music
Oh, play me mountain music
Oh, play me mountain music
I am a pilgrim and a stranger
Traveling through this wearisome land
And I got a home in that yonder city, good Lord
And it's not, not made by hand
I got a mother, sister and a brother
Who have been this, this way before
But I'm determined to go and see them
Over on that other shore
Sing it
I am a pilgrim and a stranger
Traveling through this wearisome land
And I got a home in that yonder city, good Lord
And it's not, not made by hand
Play it
Play that one more time
I'm going down to thet river of Jordan
Just to bathe my wearisome soul
And if I could touch the hem of His garment
Then I know he'll take me home
I am a pilgrim and a stranger
Traveling through this wearisome land
And I got a home in that yonder city, good Lord
And it's not, not made by hand
Yeah
I am a pilgrim and a stranger
Traveling through this wearisome land
And I got a home in that yonder city, good Lord
And it's not, not made by hand
Good Lord, not made my hand
Good Lord, not made my hand
Good Lord, not made my hand
Take me back down where cool water flows, y'all
Let me remember the things I've done
Walk on the log where the catfish bite
Walking along the river road at night
Barefoot girl, dancin' in the moonlight
I can hear the bullfrog calling me, "Ribbit"
Wonderin' if my rope's still hangin' to the tree
Ole Brody Junior took me over
Said, "You're gonna find a well that's colder
If I'm a bad boss, give some O'Green river", well
Take me back down where cool water flows, y'all
Let me remember the things I've done
Walk on the log where the catfish bite
Walking along the river road at night
Barefoot girl, dancin' in the moonlight
He came in and sits down at the end of the bar
His old rawhide shirt full of dust
He asked for a glass and he ordered rye whiskey
He talked to himself and he cussed
He left Sacramento early that mornin'
With a sackful of mail for St. Joe
Had to outrun some outlaws outside Carson City
By ridin' where they wouldn't go
He said to me,"Mister, this long ridin's hell
But I guess it's got to be done
Otherwise how would you get all your mail
If the pony express couldn't run?"
I said, ''I hear you, mister and you do your job well
But I hear it won't be for long
They'll be sendin' the mail by the wire and the rail
And your pony and you will be gone''
He came in and sits down at the end of the bar
His coveralls covered with dust
He said, ''Jesse James had just held up his train''
He talked to himself and he cussed
He pulled out of St. Joe early that morning
With the mail and the union payroll
Had to stop for a rock slide outside Jackson City
And Jesse made off with the gold
He said to me, ''Mister, this railroading's hell
But I guess it's got to be done
Otherwise how would you get all you mail
If that old iron horse couldn't run?''
I said, ''I hear you mister and you do your job well
But I hear it won't be for long
They'll be sending the mail without you or the rail
'Cause they say man will fly before long''
He came in and sits down at the end of the bar
His face looked all haggard and gray
He ordered a drink and said, ''Make it a double
Boys it's sure been a long day''
He pulled out of Denver early that mornin'
He said, ''You'll never guess where I've been
A hijacker needed a lift down to Cuba
So your mail will be late getting in''
I said, ''I hear you mister and you do your job well
But you know it ain't been that long
They were doing it best with the pony express
Before you and your friends came along''
To pull the family through my son, it's all left up to you
My love is like an automobile
Out of control, ramming down a hill
I can't stop, no, I can't stop
My love is like a runaway train
Running over anything in my way
I can't stop, no, I can't stop
Once I get started making love to you
That's the only thing that I want to do
Oh, oh, I can't stop
My love is like a house on fire
You keep me burning with your sweet desire
I can't stop, no, I can't stop, yeah
I'm gonna love all over and then
I'm gonna love you all over again
I can't stop, no, I can't stop
Once I get started making love to you
That's the only thing that I want to do
Oh, oh, I can't stop
I can't stop, no, I can't stop
I'm gonna love you all over again
I'm gonna love you all over and then
I can't stop, no, I can't stop
I'm gonna love you, I'm gonna love you
I'm gonna love you, I'm gonna love you
You've got me achin' more than I should
My heart is breakin', oh don't it feel good
'Cause I know for certain, we're magic in love
You've got me hurtin, 'cause I can't get enough
I just couldn't say no, even though I should
Even if I did, wonder if you could
I just couldn't say no, no when your eyes say yes, yes
I just can't say no, oh, I've tried my best
The way that you tease me, makes me want you more
You purr like a kitten but I hear you roar
Your body language it's talkin' to me
Right here in the darkness, it's so plain to see
I just couldn't say no, even though I should
Even if I did, wonder if you could
I just couldn't say no, no, when your eyes say yes, yes
I just can't say no, oh, I've tried my best, I just couldn't say no
I just couldn't say no, no, when your eyes say yes, yes
I just can't say no, oh oh, 'cause I've tried my best
I just can't say no, oh oh, I've tried my best
Well it's concrete and asphalt drivin' into work every day
This livin' can't be healthy but the Lord knows I got bills to pay
And there's others here just like me, they got families to feed
Chorus:
One more time arouund, time around, on the job is where I'll be found
One more time arouund, time around, earn my pay and hear that whistle sound
Well thunder and lighting, it don't matter, nothin' stops the clock
The radios are blastin', mine is playin' country, some play rock
The rhythm and blues of the workplace, we take pride in everything we make
Chorus
Five o'clock is comin', we're all racin' down the same track
Life is a circle, sometimes we meet ourselves comin' back, well
Chorus
One more time around
Time around, time around
Time around, time around
Time around, time around
Time around
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from Heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing, 'Alleluia'
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Everyone knows it, see talks goin' 'round
It ain't no secret 'cause it's all over town
Some people are talkin' that we know so well
Everyone's heard it but the one you can't tell
Write it down in blue, sorry I don't love you
If you can't face the truth
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue
What you are feeling, you just can't explain
Oh, you got your reasons, now you just can't change
And there's no way to hide it 'cause baby I can see
So if you can't say it then do this for me
Write it down in blue, sorry I don't love you
If you can't face the truth
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue
Yeah, that's the thing to do
If you can't say it's over
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue
Blue, blue, blue
Write it down in blue, oh
Blue, blue, blue
Write it down in blue
Write it down in blue
Everyone knows it, see talks goin' 'round
It ain't no secret, it's all over town
Some people are talkin' that we know so well
Everyone's heard it but the one you can't tell
Write it down in blue, yeah I don't love you
If you can't face the truth
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue
Yeah, that's the thing to do
If you can't say it's over
And you can't say we're through
Write it down in blue, oh yeah
Write it down, write it down
Write it down in blue
Write it down, write it down
Write it down in blue
(Jeff Cook - Linne Black)
Your love for me is gone
But my love for you lives on
And my memories of you
Will never die.
I can just see you now
The special smile you gave to me
The face I'll love eternally
I see all the things you do.
Your nearness seems so real to me
As though you really care with me
Can't believe it's just a memory
I can just see you now.
Oh, girl if I only could
I wish with all my heart I could
Holding you would feel so good
if I could just see you now.
I can just feel you now
The tender sweetness of your lips
As they brush across my fingertips
I feel the softness on your mind.
So warm beside through the night
Holding you to the morning light
Oh, did you really say goodbye
I can just feel you now.
Oh, girl if I only could
I wish with all my heart I could
Holding you would feel so good
if I could just see you now.
I could just see you now
The special smile you gave to me
The face I'll love eternally
Is that what time it is?
I'm sorry if I woke you with this call.
But all this wine is in my head, and I'm so lonely from it all.
Don't hang up.
Baby, hear what I gotta say.
We started out such a beautiful story.
We just can't end this way.
Chorus:
I wanna come over, I wanna love you tonight.
I don't care about the time or who's wrong or who's right.
Just say it's OK, and I'll be on my way.
I wanna come over. Could you get outta bed?
I'll try to unsay all the things I've said.
Please say its OK, and I'll be on my way.
Is that what time it is?
I'm sorry if I'm keeping you from your sleep.
But all thse feelings are running through me.
You know I never knew they ran so deep.
What's that you're sayin'?
That just before I phoned,
you were gettin' ready to give me call,
'cause you were feelin' so alone.
Chorus
I wanna come over.
I've been goin' around in a whirlwind not knowing
Which way to go
I've been lost in a jungle of heartaches looking
For what I don't know
I've spread my wings and I've done some things
That I never meant to do.
Its took me some time but I've made up my mind
I'm hanging up my travelin' shoes
Hangin' up my travelin' shoes
My runnin' around is all through
I'm foldin' my wings up for you
I'm hangin' up my travelin' shoes
I've been ridin' a sea of uncertainty
Runnin' away fom is all
I've listened to nothing that life had to tell me
Watched all my dreams rise and fall
I've made my mistakes
But it's not too late to pull myself out of the blues.
Its took me some time but I've made up my mind
I'm hanging up my travelin' shoes
Hangin' up my travelin' shoes
My runnin' around is all through
I'm foldin' my wings up for you
I'm hangin' up my travelin' shoes
Drinkin' was forbidden in my Christian country home
I learned to play the flattop on 'em good old gospel songs
Then I heard about the barrooms just across the Georgia line
Where a boy could make a livin' playin' guitar late at night
Had to learn about the ladies too young to understand
Why the young girls fall in love with the boys in the band
When the boys turn to music, the girls just turn away
To some other guitar picker in some other late night place
Yeah, held on to my music, let the ladies walk away
Took my songs and dreams to Nashville and then on to L.A
Up to New York city, all across the USA
I've lost so much of me but there's enough of me to say
That my home's in Alabama, no matter where I lay my head
My home's in Alabama, southern born and southern bred
What keeps me goin' I don't really know
Can't be the money Lord knows I'm always broke
Could it be the satisfaction of bein' understood
When the people really love you and let you know when it's good
Oh, I'll speak my southern English as natural as I please
I'm in the heart of Dixie, Dixie's in the heart of me
And someday when I make it, when love finds a way
Somewhere high on lookout mountain I'll just smile with pride and say
That my home's in Alabama, no matter where I lay my head
My home's in Alabama, southern born and southern bred
I am so happy with you in my arms
Honey, don't you ever leave
Lay back and love me and tell me you're mine
Keep on dreamin' with me
Your hair is so soft and your eyes are so brown
Your body's warm here next to me
You be my woman and I'll be your man
And your love is all I'll ever need
It took so long for me to find you
I've been lonely for so long, lonely
You came into me life to love me
Now my loneliness is gone
You can't improve on perfection
And you are perfect for me
Cast your love in my direction
And I know that you will see
I am so happy with you in my arms
Honey, don't you ever leave
Lay back and love me and tell me you're mine
Keep on dreamin' with me
Lay back and love me and tell me you're mine
Keep on dreamin' with me
Lay back and love me and tell me you're mine
I was born across the river
In the mountains where I call home
Lord, times were good there
Don't know why, I ever roamed
Oh, Tennessee River and a mountain man
We get together anytime we can
Oh, Tennessee River and a mountain man
We play together in mother nature's band
Me and my woman's done made our plans
On the Tennessee River, walking hand in hand
Gonna raise a family, Lord settle down
Where peace and love can still be found
Oh, Tennessee River and a mountain man
We get together anytime we can
Oh, Tennessee River and a mountain man
We play together in mother nature's band
Oh, Tennessee River
Oh, Tennessee River and a mountain man
We get together anytime we can
Oh, Tennessee River and a mountain man
We play together in mother nature's band
Oh, Tennessee River and a mountain man
We get together anytime we can
Oh, Tennessee River and a mountain man
We play together in mother nature's band
I remember, walking through flowers
In a garden of a mem'ry, I'm thinkin' of
I remember, being in heaven
Some other place, some other time, some other love
I remember, walking on silver sand
With a mid summer moon shining above
And I remember, the taste of her sweet lips
Some other place, some other time, some other love
I remember holding her close to me
And I can picture the nights we shared alone
When I'm dreaming, it all seems so real to me
Then I wake up and find it's all done
Tomorrow, I may be holding another girl
But tonight she's not the one I'm thinkin' of
Could it be, my life would just be a mem'ry
Of some other place, some other time, some other love
Of some other place, some other time, some other love
Just off of the beaten path a little dot on a state road map
That's where I was born and where I'll die
Things move at a slower pace, nobody's in the rat race
And these days that's a special way of life
Down home, where they know you by name and treat you like family
Down home, a man's good word and a hand shake are all you need
Folks know if they're fallin' on hard times they can fall back on
Those of us raised up, down home
In the corner of the hardware store, gathered 'round a checkerboard
Old men tellin' lies and crowning kings
Kids drivin' down the old town square tops rolled down in the cool night air
Go and see what's shakin' at the dairy queen
Down home, where they know you by name and treat you like family
Down home, a man's good word and a hand shake are all you need
Folks know if they're fallin' on hard times they can fall back on
Those of us raised up, down home
When I was a boy, I couldn't wait to leave this place
But now I want to see my children raised down home
Down home, folks know if they're fallin' on hard times
They can fall back on those of us raised up
Down home, where they know you by name and treat you like family
Down home, a man's good word and a hand shake are all you need
Folks know if they're fallin' on hard times they can fall back on
Those of us raised up, down home, down home
Way down home, down home, down home
Why lady why can't I leave you alone?
I try lady try but the feeling's too strong
You stay on my mind, feel just like a fool
Why lady, why can't I get over you?
Why lady why, it was easy before?
I try, lady try but it ain't easy no more
To be on my way would be the best thing to do
Why lady why can't I get over you?
Why lady why, can't I leave you alone?
I try lady try but the feeling's too strong
To be on my way would be the best thing to do
Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry,
While on others Thou are calling,
Do not pass me by.
Let me at a throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contrition,
Help my unbelief.
Trusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by Thy grace.
Thou the spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,
Whom have I on earth beside Thee,
Wish I had just one more chance to hold you close and say I love you.
Can't believe out romance was just beginning. Now its Through.
I'm looking for tomorrow to start a newlife on my own.
And all I see is sorrow. You're all I lived for. Now you're gone.
I can't seem to get you off my mind no matter what I do.
I'm trying to wipe you from my eyes, but the tears keep fallin' through.
The hardest thing that love has put me through is gettin' over you, gettin'
I got something cookin' and I'm boilin' way down deep
While I'm hot and bothered why don't you give me what I need
Your kind of lovin' really hits the spot
The things you're doin', baby, make me want what you got
So get it, get it, get it while it's hot, get it while it's hot, yeah
Yeah so get it, get it, get it while it's hot, get it while it's hot
Well, standin' here beside you, I can really feel the heat
I feel your body tremblin' from your head down to your feet
I know my mind is in it but my body's almost shot
If you want my lovin', babe, better get it while it's hot
Yeah get it, get it, get it while it's hot, get it while it's hot, get on oh oh
Get it, get it, get it while it's hot
Get it, get it, get it while it's hot
Get it, get it, get it while it's hot
Get it, get it, get it while it's hot
Get it, get it while it's hot
Get it while it's hot
Get it, get it while it's hot
Get it while it's hot
Get it, get it while it's hot
Get it while it's hot
Get it, get it while it's hot
Snowy days and frosty night, everything looks cold and white
Hangin' 'round the mistletoe, hangin' 'round the mistletoe
Christmas day will soon be here, and everybody's full of cheer
Hangin' 'round the mistletoe, waitin' for you dear
Well, I've waited all year long and nore the year is almost gone
Hangin' 'round the mistletoe, hangin' 'round the mistletoe
But if that's what I've gotta do just to get a kiss from you
Hangin' 'round the mistletoe, waitin' for you dear
Christmas is a special time to give and to receive
For every little kiss you give me I will give you three
You ain't gonna miss one kiss, that's one thing you'll never miss
I'm hangin' 'round the mistletow waitin' for you dear
Well, I've had my eyes on you for a long, long time
So, I'm asking Santa please, make that pretty girl mine
Waited till I'm cold and blue just to get a kiss from you
I'm hangin' 'round the mistletoe, waitin' for you dear
Before I fly and wave goodbye
I say to you, "Days with you
Are the best years of my life"
But if I don?t see you anymore
Keep my words safely stored
And I?ll be back I promise once more
Goodbye, goodbye
Till I see you again
Goodbye, goodbye
I?ll love and I?ll miss you till then
Remember me ?cause I care
Where you are and how you fare
Get in touch if the wind blows in your face
I guess it?s been too much fun
We?ve shared and we?ve won
Yes, the best is yet to come
Goodbye, goodbye
Till I see you again
Goodbye, goodbye
I?ll love and I?ll miss you till then
That one word hurts so bad
You leave the best you?ve had
But you keep the faith
And pray to return
Goodbye, goodbye
I?ll love and I?ll miss you till then
Goodbye, goodbye
Hey baby, won't you take my hand
And make me a happy man?
I ain't rich but I found my fortune in you
Two jobs on the night time shift
I'm still left with an empty fist
But my heart is full and my love is true
We can still get married
In the style of our friends and family
Gather all of them to celebrate
While we slip out quietly
And have a hometown honeymoon
Wildflowers and love is in bloom
We'll have a hometown honeymoon
Just me and you
Hometown honeymoon
Out of church and up to your room
We'll have a hoedown afternoon
Dancing to the rhythm of love
We can sing and laugh out loud
Lifestyles of the poor but proud
Cuddle up on the porch and enjoy the view
We can't afford Niagara Falls
But there's a fountain by the old town hall
We'll make a wish by the light of a lover's moon
I'll get my grandma's wedding ring
And my brother's Chevrolet
We can stay at your mama's house
We don't have to go away
To have a hometown honeymoon
Wildflowers and love is in bloom
We'll have a hometown honeymoon
Dancing to the rhythm of love
You're daddy's prized possession
I'll make a good impression
I'm gonna get his blessing
That's all we need
Hometown honeymoon
Wildflowers and love is in bloom
We'll have a hometown honeymoon
Just me and you
Hometown honeymoon
Out of church and up to your room
We'll have a hoedown afternoon
Dancing to the rhythm of love
Hometown honeymoon
Woke up this morning, not feeling too well
The man in my mirror looking mighty pale
On this old CB calling for emergency
But all of a sudden, it?s dawning on me
I don?t need no doctor
To tell me what?s wrong
I?ve known my problem
I?ve been gone too long, way too long
Homesick fever running through my vein
Lonely feeling, love hungry pain
You can say your daddy coming down with the blues
Got this homesick fever mama, missing you
That old evening sun, it's going down on my right
Baby, I?m southbound coming home tonight
I?m in the mountain, mama, headed up the hill
The closer I get to you the better I feel
That?s just one gift, mama
She don't get my mind
One once of your love honey
And I?ll be feeling fine, so fine
Homesick fever running through my vein
Lonely feeling, love hungry pain
You can say your daddy coming down with the blues
Got this homesick fever mama, missing you
Homesick fever, lonely feelin'
Yes, you can say your daddy coming down with the blues
A glowin' fire and fallin' snow, they spark a memory
Stockings hangin', mistletoe, presents beneath a tree
A happy boy wakin' up to toys, lookin' so surprised
And wondering how Santa knew just when I closed my eyes
Chorus:
It's a Homecoming Christmas, goin' back to where it all began
Homecoming Christmas, I wanna be there once again
Memories do sweet and strong and I've been done too long
It's Christmas time and I'm comin' home
I can see the Christmas tree and feel the warm fireplace
Handmade decorations, homemade pies and cakes
Family all together with so much love to share
A special time and I can't wait, can't wait to be there
Why should I feel discouraged?
And why should the shadows come?
And why should my heart be lonely
And long for heaven and home?
When Jesus is my portion
My constant friend is He
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me
And I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I am free
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me
Let not your heart be troubled
His tender word I hear
And resting on His goodness
I lose my doubts and fears
Though by the path He leads us
But one step I may see
His eye is on the sparrows
And I know He watches me
And I sing because I'm happy
And I sing because I'm free
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me
His eye is on the sparrow
We didn't know that times were lean
'Round our house the grass was green
It didn't seem like things were all that bad
I bet we walked a thousand miles
Chopin' cotton and pushin' plows
And learnin' how to give it all we had
As life went on and years went by
I saw the light in daddy's eyes
And felt the love in mama's hands
They kept us warm and kept us fed
Taught us how to look ahead
Now lookin' back, I understand
We were walkin' in high cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Those fertile fields are never far away
We were walkin' in high cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Leavin' home was the hardest thing we ever faced
When Sunday mornings rolled around
We dressed up in hand-me downs
Just in time, together with the church
Sometimes I think how long it's been
And how it impressed me then
It was the only day my daddy wouldn't work
We were walkin' in high cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Those fertile fields are never far away
We were walkin' in high cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Leavin' home was the hardest thing we ever faced
We were walkin' in high cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Those fertile fields are never far away
We were walkin' in high cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Leavin' home was the hardest thing we ever faced
We were walkin' in high cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Those fertile fields are never far away
We were walkin' in high cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Leavin' home was the hardest thing we ever faced
Well, I was feeling kinda lonely, just a little bit blue
All I wanted was someone to talk to
I wasn't looking for love or a do romance
I had no intention of taking that big chance
Until she walked in, in that low-cut dress
She was a first class ticket on Heartbreak Express
Well, punch my ticket, I'm headin? on down the line
First stop misery, here I go one more time
Destination dead ahead, ain't that loneliness
I got a first class ticket on Heartbreak Express
Well, I oughta know better, you think I'm learned
But if you?re gonna chase fire, you're gonna get burned!
Yeah, I was still gettin? over the hurtin? from the one before
She walked in right through that ballroom door
I ain?t never been one to settle for second best
I want a first class ticket on Heartbreak Express
Well, punch my ticket, I'm headin? on down the line
First stop misery, here I go one more time
Destination dead ahead ain't that loneliness
I got a first class ticket on Heartbreak Express
Punch my ticket, I'm headin? on down the line
First stop misery, here I go one more time
Destination dead ahead, ain't that loneliness
I got a first class ticket on Heartbreak Express
I got a first class ticket on Heartbreak Express
I got a first class ticket, Heartbreak Express
I got a first class ticket on a Heartbreak Express
The stage is set tonight down in Nashville
It's been a long hard ride into town
And thanks to some cowboys and heroes
My chance to sing has finally come around
The first song I ever sang was haggard
Momma sang to me, I saw the light
I'd turn my radio up louder
To hear Johnny Cash walk the line
Oh Waylon sang a song about Texas
Willie's 'Blue Eyes Cried In The Rain'
Bocephus sings a song about Dixie
And Lefty taught us all how to sing
Hats off to hard riding cowboys
Riding somewhere tonight
Hats off to hard riding cowboys
Wanted, dead or alive
Well Charlie ran the devil out of Georgia
Skynyrd sang sweet home Alabam
The Allman Brothers taught us how to ramble
And the Tucker Boys showed us how to jam
Hats off to hard riding cowboys
Riding somewhere tonight
Hats off to hard riding cowboys
Wanted, dead or alive
Well the stage is set tonight up in Heaven
And Reba's band is there with Patsy Cline
And all around there's cowboys and cowgirls
And thanks to them the music's still alive
Hats off to hard riding cowboys
Flying somewhere tonight
Hats off to hard flying cowboys
Smilin' faces on city streets, crowded shoppers, busy feet
And every smile just seems to say, we're having some Happy Holidays
Twinklin' lights on Christmas trees, kids up on Santa's kneww
Busy lines on telephones, sending a Merry Christmas home
Bells ringing everywhere, season spirit in the air
Up and down the avenue, holiday dreams comin' true
A choir singing songs of cheer, carols we all love to hear
Rudolph with his glowin' nose, lovers under mistletoe
Postman bringin' Christmas cards, reindeer out in the yard
Frosty with his eyes of coal, present wrapped in pretty bows
Sidewalks full of happy eyes, flakes fallin' from the sky
Boys and girls at the big parade to see St. Nick up on his sleigh
The scene is set, it's beautiful, sounds of Peace, Joy and Love
Come on weather man give us a forecast snowy white
Can't you hear the prayers of every childlike heart tonight
Rockies are callin', Denver snow fallin'
Somebody said it's four feet deep, but it doesn't matter
Give me the laughter, I'm gonna choose to keep
Another tender Tennessee Christmas, the only Christmas for me
Where the love circles around us like the gifts around our tree
Well, I know there's more snow up in Colorado than my roof will ever see
But a tender Tennessee Christmas is the only Christmas for me
Every now and then I get a wanderin' urge to see
Maybe California, maybe Tinsel Town's for me
There's a parade there, we'd have it made there
Bring home a tan for New Year's Eve
Sure sounds exciting, awfully inviting, still I think I'm gonna keep
Another tender Tennessee Christmas, the only Christmas for me
Where the love circles around us like the gifts around our tree
Well, they say in L.A. it's a warm holiday, it's the only place to be
A tender Tennessee Christmas is the only Christmas for me
Well, I know there's more snow up in Colorado than my roof will ever see
But a tender Tennessee Christmas is the only Christmas for me
I been living in big hotels
Hopin' and prayin' for something else
Only halfway through Louisiana
On my way home to Alabama
It gets lonely, you've no idea
And baby, sometimes I'm close to tears
Only halfway through Louisiana
On my way home to Alabama
I've been living in big hotels
Hopin' and prayin' for something else
Only halfway through Louisiana
Here's another morning
Soon she'll be waking up
I watched her and wonder
If there's a better word for love
So many times I've told her
It never seems enough
So I'll keep searching
For a better word for love
Moaning, stumbling, wondering
When I find a way
'Cos I know she knows
There's nothing more to say
Tonight when I'm out walking
I'll asked the stars above
If out there somewhere
There's a better word for love
Moaning, stumbling, wondering
When I find a way
'Cos I know she knows
There's nothing more to say
So here's another morning
Soon she'll be waking up
I guess I'll just hold her tight
'Til there's a better word for love
I guess I'll just hold her tight
I'm gonna call up my boss and tell him I'm ill
Gonna tell him I'm home, with the fever and chills
I don't usually lie but for your sweet love I will, I need it so
We won't be disturbed, the phone's off the hook
And when it comes to lovin' woman, you wrote the book
And I just saw that 'I want you' look and that's all it took, well I
Ain't got no business doin' business today
My little woman wants to stay home and play
Right in her arms is where I will stay
'Cause I ain't got no business doin' business today
Well, the boys at the plant are punching the clock
If they could see us darlin', oh, what a shock
They'd do the same if they had what I got
So please don't stop, well I
Ain't got no business doin' business today
My little woman wants to stay home and play
Right in her arms is where I will stay
'Cause I ain't got no business doin' business today
Ain't got no business doin' business today
My little woman wants to stay home and play
Right in her arms is where I will stay
Through the years
We've had our ups and downs
Ain't been a block
We haven't been around
We've been one step up
And two steps back
But our love's gotten
Right back on track
We're still goin' strong
Like a freight train
Burnin' on a midnight run
We're rollin' right along
Still goin' strong
In tryin' times
When push came down to shove
We'd pull together
And show what we're made of
With a lot of love
And a little faith
We moved every mountain
In our way
We're still goin' strong
With a fire that's hotter
Than the desert sun
We're still turnin' on
Still goin' strong
It's still as good
As it's ever been
Our love's just gettin'
It's second wind
We're still goin' strong
Two hearts poundin'
Like a rock and roll drum
Lovin' all night long
Still goin' strong
We're still goin' strong
Like a freight train
Burnin' on a midnight run
We're rollin' right along
Still goin' strong
Still goin' strong
Goin' strong
Still goin' strong
Goin' strong
Still goin' strong
When we're in a crowd, I'm sure you've noticed how
I love to look at you (you, you, you)
No, I can't deny, I get hypnotized
When I look at you (look at you, look at you)
Oh, it's the kind of thing, that I can't explain
No matter how I try
It's no mystery, the whole world can see
How I feel inside (feel inside)
(Oh, oh baby)
I can't hide my heart
It's been that way right from the start
These feelings I know
Can't help but show
And I can't hide my heart
When we're all alone, oh it's just as strong
When I look at you
Maybe even more, behind these doors
As I'm loving you (loving you)
(Oh, oh baby)
I can't hide my heart
It's been that way right from the start
These feelings I know
Can't help but show
And I can't hide my heart
Baby you never will be lonely, as long as I'm alive
You'll always be my one and only, for the rest of my life
Ooooh, ooooh
(Oh, oh baby)
I can't hide my heart
It's been that way right from the start
These feelings I know
Can't help but show
And I can't hide my heart
I can't hide my heart
It's been that way right from the start
I can't hide my heart (and I can't hide my heart)
It's been that way right from the start
I can't hide my heart
My heart fell to the floor
The night you broke the news
Said you couldn't feel it anymore
Those words that rolled off your tongue
Tore my world in two
As you turned and walked on out the door
I've been trying to get over you
And get on with my life
But the more I do without you
The more I realize
I can't love you any less, no matter how I try
You left me with a feeling, that just won't seem to die
And it's killing me knowing, I'll never hold you like before
I don't love you any less
You don't love me anymore
Well girl I hope you never feel
The way I feel tonight
It's a hopeless kind of pain
Well I'm not even comin' close
To gettin' over you
Feels like it's never gonna end
So why do I keep hangin' on
And wastin' my time
Wish I could let you go
But this old heart of mine
Can't love you any less, no matter how I try
You left me with a feeling, that just won't seem to die
And it's killing me knowing, I'll never hold you like before
I don't love you any less
You don't love me anymore
Girl, I don't love you any less
You know how to turn me on
In a special way all your own
No one has been where you've gone in so long
Oh, baby, you turn me on
Your world fits right into mine
With perfection time after time
And my world's where you must belong
'Cause baby, you turn me on
Oh, baby, you turn me on
It's always so perfect with you every time
Oh, yeah, I love you
You know how to turn me on
In a special way all your own
No one has been where you've gone in so long
Oh, baby, you turn me on
Oh, baby, you turn me on
Hey, baby, you know every way
To turn me on and on and on
So why don't you just turn me on?
Words and Music by Teddy Gentry
The walls of my mind are closin' in.
Can't get away.
Your mem'ry won't end.
Chorus:
Can't forget about you. Can't forget about you.
Can't forget about you. Can't forget about you.
Breakin' my mind in threee quarter time makin' me blue.
Can't forget about you. Can't forget about you.
I never stop hearin' the music after the song is through.
I still see your eyes, your warm, gentle smile.
It was all worthwhile, each moment we knew.
Chorus
Fly away with me tonight
Take me on a one-way flight in your lovin' arms
And ev'rything's gonna be alright
You're the one who took my hand
When no one else could understand
You're the one who moves me
Like nobody else can
In your eyes I see the light
It's your emotions glowing bright
So keep the fires burning
And let it warm me through the night
You can be a part of me
'Cause you're what love was meant to be
You and me baby we'll set the flame inside free
Chorus:
Take me down to where I wanna be
Turn around, the man who lives inside of me
Take me down and lose me all night long
Hold me close and make me strong
Take me down, take me down tonight
You don't have to stay forever
Let's just put our hearts together
And share another night in ecstasy
We know that it's feelin' better
Ev'ry time we come together
Just like a western movie, a challenge has been made.
A shot was fired in anger, and pride stepped off the train.
Won't we ever stop this killin', me and you, till our hearts are up on Boot Hill and there's nothing we can do?
Chorus:
Words at twenty paces, anger at high noon.
This house ain't big enough for both of us. It's comin' soon.
We'll finish off our happiness and run hope out of town.
With words at twenty paces, Lord, it's love we're gunnin' down.
Bridge:
How did we ever lose the dreams we used to share, the gentle touch, the words of love, the way we used to care?
Sometimes you words cut like a bullet in my side.
Oh, which is more important, wounded hearts or wounded pride?
I've got my ammunition. I know you've got yours too.
We know each other's weakness; Lord, the damage we can do.
Why can't we just step aside and put our guns away?
Let love come like the cavalry: ride in and save the day?
Sometimes her morning coffee?s way too strong
And sometimes what she says, she says all wrong
Right or wrong she?s there beside me like only a friend would be
And that?s close enough to perfect for me
Now she?s been known to wear her pants too tight
And drinking puts her out just like a light
Heaven knows she?s not an angel, but she?d really like to be
And that?s close enough to perfect for me
She kisses me each morning and smiles her sleepy smile
And she don?t have to say it, I can see it in her eyes
Don?t you worry about my woman or what you think she ought to be
She?s close enough to perfect for me
Sometimes she gets down and starts to cry
But then again a lady has a right
She?s everything I've ever wanted, she's all I?ll ever need
She?s close enough to perfect for me
She kisses me each morning and smiles her sleepy smile
She don?t have to say it, I can see it in her eyes
Don?t you worry about my woman or what you think she ought to be
She?s close enough to perfect for me
Gonna have a party, a good time jamboree
Gonna have a party, come on along with me
Gonna have a good time and everybody's feelin' right
Gonna have a party a week from Saturday night
Well, thought I'd call you early, I thought you'd like to know
There's gonna be a party and I'd love for you to go
I just wanna give you time to get your story right
There's gonna be a party, babe and it might last all night
Gonna have a party, a good time jamboree
Gonna have a party, come on along with me
Gonna have a good time and everybody's feelin' right
Gonna have a party a week from Saturday night
Now we're gonna play some music and you can sing along
And I'll bet before the night is through, we'll play your favorite song
And when we play the slow dance and I'm holding you so tight
That's when the party's startin', babe and it might last all night
Gonna have a party, a good time jamboree
Gonna have a party, come on along with me
Gonna have a good time and everybody's feelin' right
Gonna have a party a week from Saturday night
Yeah we gonna have a party, a good time jamboree
Gonna have a party, come on along with me
Gonna have a good time and everybody's feelin' right
Gonna have a party a week from Saturday night
Gonna have a party, a good time jamboree
Gonna have a party, come on along with me
Gonna have a good time and everybody's feelin' right
How do you fall in love?
And when do you say I do
And when is the perfect time
To spend the rest of your life?
Seasons may come and go
And sometimes it rains and snows
And there will be highs and lows
So only you will know
You never know just where it will find you
'Cause it can come on you so fast
But seems like it takes forever
When you want it so bad
But don't ever take it for granted
'Cause it's more than sowing some seeds
And it takes sun and water
So give it what it needs
And that's how you fall in love
And that's when you say I do
And that's when you know it's time
To spend the rest of your life
Now seasons may come and go
And sometimes it rains and snows
There will be highs and lows, so only you will know
Oh Lord my God. When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made
I see the stars. I hear the rolling thunder.
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul my Saviour God to Thee
How great Thou art. How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul my Saviour God to Thee
How Great Thou art. How great thou art.
When Christ shall come, with shouts of acclamation
To take me home. What joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
and there proclaim my God How great Thou art
Then sings my soul my Saviour God to Thee
How great Thou art. How great Thou art
Then sings my soul my Saviour God to Thee
How great Thou art. How Great Thou art
All my friends are asking me
Where I plan to spend the holidays
People seem to celebrate the season
In so many different ways
Some go where the weather's freezing cold
While others like it warm
I don't care about the weather
Just whether I spend Christmas in your arms
We could drive up to the mountains
Build a fire and watch it snow
We could sail down to the islands
Where the gentle breezes blow
I'd be happy in the city
I'd be happy on the farm
I don't care where I spend Christmas
As long as I spend Christmas in your arms
It was only last December
I had no Christmas spirit in my heart
My world lay cold and shattered
In the ashes of a dream that fell apart
But now you're here beside me
No greater gift is wrapped beneath my tree
And the arms you wrap around me
And the precious gift of love you give to me
We could drive up to the mountains
Build a fire and watch it snow
We could sail down to the islands
Where the gentle breezes blow
I'd be happy in the city
I'd be happy on the farm
I don't care where I spend Christmas
As long as I spend Christmas in your arms
I don't care where I spend Christmas
It's that time of year when the whole world is heart tot heart
You can feel love all around you, you can see it everywhere
Christmas is love, it's in the songs we're singing
Christmas is love, it's families comin' home
Christmas is love, it's on the children's faces
Christmas is love
Christmas is love, a warm and friendly feeling
Christmas is love, hear the church bells ring
Christmas is love, it's sharing in the giving
Christmas is love
We all gather 'round, watch the lights dancing on the tree
The spirit of the season, you feel it in the air
Christmas is love, it's in the songs we're singing
Christmas is love, it's families comin' home
Christmas is love, it's on the children's faces
Christmas is love, a warm and friendly feeling
Christmas is love, just hear the church bells ring
Christmas is love, it's sharing in the giving
Happy birthday, Jesus
It's that time of year
All the lights on the trees say
Christmas time is near
Another year's behind us
You helped us make it through
So, happy birthday, Jesus
This song is just for you
We all get so hung up
On material things at times
It seems like we forget
What Christmas really means
It should be thanks we're givin'
That's why I wrote this tune
Happy birthday, Jesus
This song is just for you
There's a gift for everyone
But you underneath the tree
No, it's not much
But I hope you like this song to you from me
Happy birthday Jesus
That's why I wrote this tune
So, happy birthday, Jesus
He stays up at night till way after dark
Feeding the dog that lives in our yard
He'll put on my shoes and stumble around
But together we can catch any outlaw in town
The boy tries to be just like me
I'm all that he tries to be
Watching cartoons on my knee
Mamma's little man and me
He wants to know how this and that goes
He'll play all day on a mountain of clay
And he'll fight with me to show that he's strong
But if he gets hurt it's mamma he wants
The boy tries to be just like me
I'm all that he tries to be
Watching cartoons on my knee
It's mamma's little man and me
Some day I know he'll leave us alone
Break mamma's heart I'll try to be strong
But if I shed a tear I hope he won't see
The big man is him and the boy is me
The boy tried to be just like me
He's all that I try to be
Now I'm watching cartoons on my knees
And mamma's little man is me
Well this ain't no Sunday drive
Got the tach red lined, throttle opened wide
Gentlemen, start the engines
You got an all new diagnostic tuned
Polished, shined, lookin' like new
This car will blow your mind
And your door right off
Rotated tires, balanced, aligned
Highest octane money can buy
She looks like she's flyin'
When she's sittin' at a stop
Your grocery gettin' garbage
Is nothing next to mine
This ain't no Sunday drive
Got the tach red lined, throttle opened wide
Gonna kill a lot of bugs, pass a lot of poles
Burn a little rubber down a blacktop road
Better be able to bury that needle, your pink slip's on the line
This ain?t no Sunday drive, no, they ain't
On your mark, set and ready, fly
Be waitin' at the finish
Hand your keys to my baby
And don't ask for a ride
This ain?t no Sunday drive, no it ain't son
Well this ain't no Sunday drive
Got the tach red lined, throttle opened wide
Gonna kill a lot of bugs, pass a lot of poles
Burn a little rubber down a blacktop road
Better be able to bury that needle, your pink slip's on the line
This ain?t no Sunday drive, this ain?t no Sunday drive
Overdrive, overdrive, overdrive, overdrive
It was July hot 'cross Georgia on my way to myrtle beach
I just got my diploma so I set out in search of me
The honeymoon was over and Alabama was far away
From being little more than just a southern state
I got a gig down at the Bowery
I played for tip and watered drinks
Just a novice in a business
That's seldom what it seems
And where are you goin' tar top
Where's J.C. and the chosen few?
I saw the flash without T.Gentry
And B.V. left for Malibu
I was July, hot and thirty, some years down the line
When the boys touched the nation, unaware at the time
I got to go to Texas, California, New York too
A farm boy who is thankful to be standin' in his shoes
But in the Bowery hangs the memories
Of dreams that still come true
Every time I see the spotlights
I'm one of the chosen few
And where are you going tar top
J.C. and the chosen few
There's no flash without T.Gentry
B.V. where are you?
Where are you goin' tar top
Which direction will you take
What's this contrabanded clamor
About the music that you make?
And where are you goin' tar top
Is it country enough?
Is it contemporary glamor?
She and I live in our own little world
Don't worry about the world outside
She and I agree, she and I lead a perfectly normal life
Ah but just because we aren't often seen socially
People think we've something to hide
But all our friends know we're just a little old fashioned
She and I
Oh ain't it great, aint it fine
To have a lover someone that others can't find
Ain't it wonderful to know, all we ever need is just the two of us
She and I, so wonderful, she and I
Ah she and I share with every body else
The same wants, needs and desires
Ah she and I save, she and I pay on everything we acquire
Ah but just because we aren't often seen separately
People think we live one life
Its hard for them to see how anyone could be
As close as she and I
Oh ain't it great, well aint it fine
To have a lover someone that others can't find
Ain't it wonderful to know, all we ever need is just the two of us
She and I
She and I live in our own little world
Ain't it wonderful
She and I live in our own little world
Ain't it wonderful
Ain't it fine fine fine
Ain't it wonderful
So wonderful
[Incomprehensible]
She and I are so wonderful
Ah she and I live in our own little world, yeah yeah
Ain't it great, ain't it fine, so wonderful
She ain't your ordinary
She ain't your ordinary girl
She don't love carelessly that's what I've always heard
'Can't use the usual lines she measures every word
No empty promises proof is what it takes to win her heart
The truth and nothing less, simple things that set her far apart
Save your diamonds and your furs she's not your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary, no she's not
She ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary, oh no
She ain't your ordinary girl
No midnight alibis, no foolish games for her
And if you cross the line you'll get what you deserve
But when you see her smile nothing seems to matter anymore
And in a little while you'll feel like you've never felt before
Like no other in the world, she's not your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary, no she's not
She ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary, oh no
She ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary
She ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary
She ain't your ordinary girl
Save your diamonds and your furs, she ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary
She ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary
She ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary
She ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary
She ain't your ordinary girl
She ain't your ordinary
Julianna, be mine tonight.
The time has come girl, and the feeling's right.
Love forever, not fade away.
A reborn love of yesterday.
Chorus:
I can't believe it, this love I've found.
The fever's risin'; I can't cool it down.
And just like the South, girl, we're goinna rise again, sharin' the love that
just won't end.
Oh yeah. Alright. Be mine, woman. Love me tonight. I got a burning love,
girl, and you feel the same.
See the embers, feel the flame.
Chorus
See the embers, feel the flame.
Orange Blossom Special
The Wabash Cannonball
The Chattanooga Choo-Choo
This hobo's seen 'em all
I've watched the Sante Fe
Lay her smoke against the sky
And listen to old number three rollin'
Through the night
Ride the train, ride the train
Anywhere I'm going I ride trains
Sleepin' in a boxcar when it rains
Ride the train, ride the train
Southern Pacific
The Overland Express
And up ahead the coal cars of West
Virginia's best
And Oklahoma's Frisco
The biggest one of all
I've listened to the Silver Steed's
Lonesome midnight call
Ride the train, ride the train
Anywhere I'm going I ride trains
Sleepin' in a boxcar when it rains
Ride the train, ride the train
Ride the train
I hope you know what I'm thinking
I hope you can read my mind
I hope you don't mind me saying
'I wanna be with you tonight'
Was it just my imagination
Or a "come on" look from you
Did your eyes ask me to question
Or did I misinterpret you?
I don't know the man at your table
But I wish you tell him goodbye
And the looks in your eyes keep saying
'I wanna be with you tonight'
I hope you know what I'm thinking
I hope you can read my mind
I hope you don't mind me saying
'I wanna be with you tonight'
As he turned you around the dance floor
Our eyes continue to meet
As he folds his arms around you
You heart gets closer to me
Both of us may be strangers
But looks are hard to disguise
And the looks in your eyes keep saying
'I wanna be with you tonight'
I hope you know what I'm thinking
I hope you can read my mind
I hope you don't mind me saying
'I wanna be with you tonight'
I hope you know what I'm thinking
I hope you can read my mind
I hope you don't mind me saying
'I wanna be with you tonight'
I hope you know what I'm thinking
I hope you can read my mind
I hope you don't mind me saying
I once thought of love as a prison
A place I didn't want to be
So long ago I made a decision
To be footloose and fancy free
But you came and I was so tempted
To gamble on love just one time
I never thought I would get caught
It seemed like a perfect crime
Baby, you left me defenseless
I've only got one plea
Lock me away
Inside of your love and throw away the key
I'm guilty
Of love in the first degree
I thought it would be so simple
Like a thousand times before
I take what I wanted and just walk away
But I never made it to the door
Now babe, I'm not beggin' for mercy
Go ahead and throw the book at me
If lovin' you is a crime, I know that I'm
As guilty as a man can be
Baby, you left me defenseless
I've only got one plea
Lock me away
Inside of your love and throw away the key
I'm guilty
Of love in the first degree
Love in the first degree
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Baby, you left me defenseless
I've only got one plea
Lock me away
Inside of your love and throw away the key
I'm guilty
Of love in the first degree
Love in the first degree
Oh yeah
Love in the first degree
Love in the first degree
Oh yeah
Love in the first degree
Love in the first degree
Love in the first degree
Military mail call....
I lay out some paper, I take out my pen
Turn on my table-lamp and here I go again
It's time to write a letter, I'm in the mood tonight
Gotta find a way to tell you how I feel inside
So I write a little and I cry a little
It's so hard to find a way to say goodbye a little
But somewhere in the middle, my emotions interfere
So I write a little and cry a little tear
And I die a little, wishing you were here
God I miss you, can't be with you
I would kiss you oh so good
'Cause you're my only cure for lonely
I'd call if I could
So I write a little and I cry a little
It's so hard to find a way to say goodbye a little
But somewhere in the middle, my emotions interfere
So I write a little and cry a little tear
And I die a little, wishing you were here
Oh, I die a little wishing you were here
Wishing you were here
I'm writing and wishing you were here
I write a little and cry a little tear
Sometimes all you need is someone to hold you
Sometimes that's all you're looking for
But I'd like to take the time to get to know you
'Cause I don't want this time to be like all the times before
And I want to know you before I make love to you
I want to show you all of my heart
And when I look into those eyes
I want to feel the love inside you
I want to know you before we make love
I've learned from all those lonely nights with strangers
It takes time for real love to be found
I feel the invitation of your body
But I'd like to look inside your soul before I lay you down
And I want to know you before I make love to you
I want to show you all of my heart
And when I look into those eyes
I want to feel the love inside you
I want to know you before we make love
If we take it slow together, together
We might make it last forever
I want to know you before I make love to you
I want to show you all of my heart
And when I look into those eyes
I want to feel the love inside you
I want to know you before we make love
He just can't wait to graduate, he's marking time and counting days
He'll toss that cap and watch that tassel fly
So he can start living, yeah, finally start living
'Cause he's got big plans and he'll have time on his hands to start living
Before he knows ten years are gone, a dead end job, a mortgage loan
He wonders where the chances passed him by
To really start living, yeah, he wants to start living
And soon he's sure, he can finally afford to start living
He'll read more books, he'll make more love
He'll talk more to the man above
He'll watch the sunset in the west
And visit Mexico
He'll learn to cook, he'll play some ball
He'll write that book, he'll make that call
He'll take the time, some other time
Someday he'll do it all
Well sittin' in the barber chair, he sees the silver in his hair
Those golden years are comin' right behind
And then he'll start living, he'll really start living
Yeah, he feels tired, ah, but soon he'll retire and start living
He'll read more books, he'll make more love
He'll talk more to the man above
He'll watch the sunset in the west
And visit Mexico
He'll learn to cook, he'll play some ball
He'll write that book, he'll make that call
He'll take the time, some other time
Someday he'll do it all
Well the doctor says, I've got bad news, afraid there's nothing we can do
And all at once the tears are in his eyes
He'll never start living, never really start living
Yeah, he had big plans but there's no time on his hands to start living
When he sees the pearly gates
We?re standing like kids on a mineway
Two hearts like tumbling dice
We've lost control of the way we feel
Old heartaches driving us crazy
Is it really different this time
We?ve come too far not to take a chance
And spin the wheel
Play our hearts on the line
Risk it all one more time
Let it all ride on the way we feel
This could be another broken heart
Or is it were true love starts
Only one way to find out if this thing is real
Just spin the wheel
Round and round our dreams are rollin?
Will they land on lover goodbye
My heart?s on you head over heels
All I know is when I told you
Love is worth any chance we take
Baby let?s left the chips fall were they make
And spin the wheel
Play our hearts on the line
Risk it all one more time
Let it all ride on the way we feel
This could be another broken heart
Maybe this is it were true love starts
Only one way to find out if this thing is real
Just spin the wheel
Love is worth any chance we take
Baby let?s spin the wheel
Play our hearts on the line
Risk it all one more time
Let it all ride on the way we feel
This could be another broken heart
Or maybe this is it were true love starts
Only one way to find out if this thing is real
Just spin the wheel
Play our hearts on the line
Risk it all one more time
Let it all ride on the way we feel
Just spin the wheel
Keep on spinning the wheel baby
Round and round we go
Spin in the wheel
Spin the wheel
Round and round we go
And spin the wheel
Southern Star
Alabama
Album: Southern Star
Oh, southern star, how I wish you would shine
And show me the way to get home
Well I'm blue-collar branded and stuck in a mill
Hard work is a way of life for me
Well I'm too young to live like I'm over the hill
And too old to be wild and free
My heart is homeward bound
I'm rolling with the feeling and I can't slow down
I need a guiding light
Shining down to lead me through the night
Oh southern star, how I wish you would shine
And show me the way to get home
Oh, hey my D.J. friend, would you play me one more song
And let my mind just go and drift away
Now we all have a dream and a place where we belong
Somewhere we can go and escape
My heart is homeward bound
I'm rolling with the feeling and I can't slow down
I need a guiding light
Shining down to lead me throught the night
Oh, southern star, how I wish you would shine
And show me the way to get home
Oh, southern star, how I wish you would shine
I saw the time
When every baby that was born
Was wanted and had a place to stay warm
And when the farmers could exist
To feed the hungry in our midst
I saw the time
When the poor could still have pride
And hard work paid off in time
I saw the time
When the homeless had a home
And the old could carry on
I saw the time, I saw the time
I saw the time
Dream after dream, scene after scene
Time after time, I saw the time
I saw the time
When special kids got a chance
And handicapped could advance
I saw the time
When we walked the streets without risk
And families still prayed and hugged and kissed
I saw the time
When nature was so clean
We could eat from the field and streams
I saw the time
And when the bombs would not explode
And all the people got to vote
I saw the time, I saw that time
Oh, I saw the time
Dream after dream, scene after scene
Time after time, I saw the time
I saw the time
When we went to the moon
And disaster struck too soon
I saw that time
When little Samantha Smith was so brave
And made that grin and call
And when the Bears' Vincent Woody
Paced the sidelines and coached football
When John, George and Martin walked around
(I saw the time)
When John, Paul, George and Ringo
Brought the sound
When everybody held hands
And the children smiled, mamma?s and daddy?s smiled
Grandma?s and Grandpa?s smiled, and God smiled
I saw the time
Dream after dream, scene after scene
There were times I stood my ground
When I knew you were right
Turned around and walked away
When I should've held you tight
But you never closed the door
You just turned out the light
Gave me time to think it over
A chance to make it right
Sometimes out of touch
But never out of love
Sometimes givin' in
But never givin' up
We've been worlds apart
Yet always close enough
Yeah, we've been out of touch
But never out of love
No matter how we try
There still may come a time
When our minds are far apart
But I know you and me
Will always find a way to be
Together in our hearts
Sometimes out of touch
But never out of love
Sometimes givin' in
Oh but never givin' up
We've been worlds apart
Yet always close enough
Yeah, we've been out of touch
But never out of love
Yeah, we've been out of touch
There's a little cafe' on the corner of town
Lucy works there 'til the sun goes down
It ain't very much but she brings home the bacon and the bread
We got a mortgage we pay just a little bit on
But it seems like all of our money is gone
Before we get a chance to get ahead
That's small stuff, we don't sweat the small stuff
Why worry about the mortgage and the minimum wage
Traffic and the taxes and the coming of age
Small stuff
There's a comfort in the knowing there's a spirit in us
Giving us the courage and the wisdom to trust
In a love that's so much greater than all the small stuff
So we don't sweat the small stuff
There's a little bitty hole in the ceiling above
Sometimes the rain drips down on our temple of love
We have to put a pot smack dab in the middle of the bed
Somebody hit my car at the diner last night
Had to drive it home with one taillight
When I went out this morning, the engine was dead
That's small stuff, we don't sweat the small stuff
Why worry about the mortgage and the minimum wage
Traffic and the taxes and the coming of age
Small stuff
There's a comfort in the knowing there's a spirit in us
Giving us the courage and the wisdom to trust
In a love that's so much greater than all the small stuff
So we don't sweat the small stuff
There's a little cafe' on the corner of town
Lucy works there 'til the sun goes down
Out on highway 1, I saw a camper van parked out on the shoulder
Thinkin' they had broken down, I pulled over
There was a little old lady and her old man kickin' back relaxin'
They said "sit down and help us celebrate our golden anniversary"
They had foldin' chairs, they were holdin' hands starin' at the fields
I said "man this ain't no movie, this is real"
Love should be as simple as that
Foldin' chairs, holdin' hands and matching baseball caps
Love is wanting what you have
Love should be as simple as that
They said "stay awhile", I said "I thought I might and ask some burnin' questions"
Like how'd you make love last so long, they started laughing
He said "to keep our love from danger, I treat her like a stranger"
Courteous, considerate and kind
Love should be as simple as that
Foldin' chairs, holdin' hands and matching baseball caps
Love is wanting what you have
Love should be as simple as that
So I went home and I said "baby, baby listen"
There's something missin' in our lives
She said " I know, I been tryin' to tell you"
We need more communication, an exotic vacation
Big screen TV, redwood Ja'causezi
Dinners out, concerts and movies
New kitchen, big addition, a pool, jewelry
Sauna, fish pond and a five acre lawn
I said " get in the camper"
Love should be as simple as that
Foldin' chairs, holdin' hands and matching baseball caps
Love is wanting what you have
Love should be as simple as that
Love should be as simple as that
She can light a fire under me
Give me all the courage that I need
She can see a side I just can't see, she can
She can make me smile when I wanna cry
Find a way to change my state of mind
She can always reach through my disguise, she can
When my world gets crazy and I just can't cope
She throws her arms around me and gives me hope
When I got the desire but I got no plans
I need someone to understand, oh, only she can
She can take the chill out of winter nights
Take away the wrong from what's not right
She can make the darkest hour look bright, she can
When I really need to make a stand
But I don't believe in who I am
When I really want to but I just can't, she can
When my world gets crazy and I just can't cope
She throws her arms around me and gives me hope
When I got the desire but I got no plans
I need someone to understand, oh, only she can
I try to do for her what she does for me
'Cause I want our love to grow
I'm gonna hold on tightly only a fool would let her go
'Cause when my world gets crazy and I just can't cope
She throws her arms around me and gives me hope
When I got the desire but I got no plans
I need someone to understand, oh, only she can
Yes, she can
Only she can
Yes, she can
Alabama
your beautiful sunlight
Your fields of cerecea potatoes and corn
Alabama
your crimson red clover
All mingled around the old place I was born.
Alabama
your hills and your valleys
Your creeks with laughter as onward they flow
Alabama
so sweet in the springtime
Sweet ferns and wild flowers and winter with snow.
Alabama
so sweet to my mem'ry
You shine like a light on a beautiful hill
Alabama
in days of my childhood
I labored and toiled at the old sorghum mill
Alabama
when red leaves are failing
I roam through your pastures with fences of rail
Alabama
when 'possums are crawling
And hound dogs are howling and wagging their tails.
Alabama
your beautiful highways
All curved through the mountains where love ones do wait
Alabama
your golden rod flower;
And the "Welcome home' sign hanging over the gate
Alabama
to me you are callin'
My footsteps are haltered no longer to stray
Alabama
you hold all I long for
I've rehearsed this day a thousand times
I've played this scene out in my mind
You spread your wings, you need to fly
It breaks my heart to say goodbye
These arms of mine wanna pull you close
But I love you enough to let you go
My mind goes back to memories
Of pony rides upon my knee
First day of school, your brand new bike
And football games on Friday nights
And through the years I've watched you grow
And I love you enough to let you go
Don't look back when you drive away
I don't wanna change your mind
I know in all your eighteen years
You've never seen your daddy cry
So many things I want to say
You'll meet new friends, you'll be okay
I'll pray for you out on your own
But don't forget your way back home
And though I may not let it show
I love you enough to let you go
Don't look back when you drive away
I don't wanna change your mind
I know in all your eighteen years
You've never seen your daddy cry
These arms of mine wanna pull you close
Oh Alabama
The devil fools
with the best laid plan.
Swing low Alabama
You got spare change
You got to feel strange
And now the moment
is all that it meant.
Alabama, you got
the weight on your shoulders
That's breaking your back.
Your Cadillac
has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track
Oh Alabama
Banjos playing
through the broken glass
Windows down in Alabama.
See the old folks
tied in white ropes
Hear the banjo.
Don't it take you down home?
Alabama, you got
the weight on your shoulders
That's breaking your back.
Your Cadillac
has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track
Oh Alabama.
Can I see you
and shake your hand.
Make friends down in Alabama.
I'm from a new land
I come to you
and see all this ruin
What are you doing Alabama?
You got the rest of the union
to help you along

She told me I should straighten up my ways or she'd be walkin' out
I guess I was just too blind to see or maybe just too proud
So I never thought twice when she loaded up her things and drove away
'Cause I knew she'd be back someday, I knew she'd be back
Took off my work clothes and left them right there on the floor
'Cause I knew she'd pick 'em up
When she got home like a hundred times before
And just to make it easier for her, I left the light on on the porch
'Cause I knew she'd be back someday, I knew she'd be back
I guess I showed her how much she had to lose
Showed her who was really who
I know she's hurtin' now
Looks like I showed her
I must have seen the movie of the month a dozen times or more
I watched my favorite team play ball but I never heard a score
'Cause the whole time I was listening
For the moment when she'd walk through the door
'Cause I knew she'd be back someday, I know she'll be back
I guess I showed her how much she had to lose
Showed her who was really who
I know she's hurtin' now
Looks like I showed her
If I could I show her how much she had to lose
I'd show her I've been hurtin' too
If I could hold her now
You kiss me awake in the mornin' , now what a way to start the day
With love notes that you leave me, written in your own special way
You call me up for nothin', I hear your voice on the line
We start talkin' 'bout lovin', you get to me every time
It's those little things you do that make me love you so
Little things that only you and I could ever know
You don't have to lay the whole wide world here at my feet, oh no
It's those little things you do that mean the most to me
Lyin' in the bed beside you, touchin' in the middle of the night
No you don't have to do any talkin' to tell me everything is all right
It's those little things you do that make me love you so
Little things that only you and I will ever know
You don't have to lay the whole wide world here at my feet, oh no
It's those little things you do that mean the most to me
she picked up the telephone
All she heard was dial tone
She really thought she heard it ring this time
She said what am I thinking I must be only dreaming
Or maybe its the hundred times hes crossed my mind
Just tonight
(chorus)
She said maybe I miss your lovin
Maybe I miss your kiss just a little bit
Maybe I miss your body lyin right next to mine
Maybe I miss your touch a little too much
Tossing and turning her skins still burning
From the fire in his hands
Runnin on empty she needs somebody
But somebody wouldnt understand
Then the telephone rings
(chorus)
They talked about Savannah
Sweet home Alabama
And how he missed the way she always smiled
Are you coming back soon
By the Harvest moon
If I have to walk every mile on my knees
(chorus)
Is the magic still there whenever I hold you?
Do these lips of mine send chills down your spine
Like they used to?
Or is it slipping away? Baby, come out and say
I'm asking because I care
I just need to know is the magic still there
Oh I still recall our first time together
Oh we kissed and we touched, we couldn't get enough of each other
And when we said goodnight beneath that old porch light
It left us wanting more
But I'm wondering now if time has somehow
Changed what we felt before
Is the magic still there whenever I hold you?
Do these lips of mine send chills down your spine
Like they used to?
Or is it slipping away? Baby come out and say
I'm asking because I care
I just need to know is the magic still there
Am I still the one that you daydream of?
When we turn out the light, is there fire in the night
When we make love?
Don't want to take you for granted so baby I'm askin'
Only because I care
I just want to know
Is the magic still there whenever I hold you?
Do these lips of mine send chills down your spine
Like they used to?
Or is it slipping away? Baby come out and say
I'm asking because I care
I just need to know is the magic still there
There's something sexy 'bout the way you're dressed
I can see you're lookin' your best tonight, that's right
You're walkin' with a new attitude
There's something different 'bout the way you're movin' tonight, that's right
But before we walk out the door, let me say one thing more
Save one last dance for our bedroom
Baby, I'm in that kind of mood
There ain't no tellin' what we might do
When it's all over and the night is through
Baby, how 'bout you, I'm in that kind of mood
It's been a while since we've been out
It's overdue baby ain't no doubt you know, ain't it so
It's feelin' like our first date
To tell the truth now honey I can't wait to go
And I think you know
Well tonight it's just us two and baby I want you
Save one last dance for our bedroom
Baby, I'm in that kind of mood
There ain't no tellin' what we might do
When it's all over and the night is through
Baby, how 'bout you, I'm in that kind of mood
But before we walk out the door, let me say one thing more
Save one last dance for our bedroom
Baby, I'm in that kind of mood
There ain't no tellin' what we might do
When it's all over and the night is through
Baby, how 'bout you, I'm in that kind of mood
I'm in that kind of mood
I'm in that kind of mood
I'm in that kind of mood
Precious memories, flood my soul
Precious memories, unseen angels
Sent from somewhere to my soul
How they linger ever near me
And the sacred past unfolds
Precious father and loving mother
Fly across the lonely years
And old home scenes of my childhood
In fond memories appear
As I travel on life's pathway
Know not what the years may hold
As I ponder, hope grows fonder
Precious memories flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Echo's from the past I hear
Old time singing, gladness bringing
From that lovely land somewhere
Precious memories, how they linger
How they ever flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious sacred seems unfold
Precious memories, how they linger
How they ever flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Seems like everywhere I look
There's another version of the same old book
And someone telling me it's new
Every song on my radio
Sounds like one I heard a long time ago
Different windows, same old view, yeah, uh, huh
All the clothes in the magazines
I could swear I've already seen
In my closet years ago
Hairstyles and super malls
You've seen one well you've seen them all
Tell me something I don't know
But in a world that's mostly imitation
It's hard to recognize the real
It takes a brave heart to resist temptation
To take the easy way and reinvent the wheel, yeah
A friend of mine finds Mr. Right
Every other Friday night
At a smoky singles bar
And she can't seem to understand
Why life don't go like she plans
She goes on wishing on a star, yeah
But in a world that's mostly imitation
It's hard to recognize the real
It takes a brave heart to resist temptation
To take the easy way and reinvent the wheel
But in a world that's mostly imitation
It's hard to recognize the real
It takes a brave heart to resist temptation
To take the easy way and reinvent the wheel
Reinvent the wheel
Before he ever made the headlines or won the Winston cup
He survived his share of crashes but he never did give up
The tracks in Carolina where all the Petty's ran
What kept the motor's running, way back then were you the fans
He won seven at Daytona, it was STP and forty-three
King Richard is a legend and he's a hero to me
When he wins he waves his hand to the folks up in the stand
And he is dedicated to all the Nascar fans
Well, I wish this year could last forever but the race must go on
He'll hang up his helmet but he never will be gone
I know he'll drive forever in the heart of every fan
Subways runnin' under the city
Condos reachin' to the sky
Each of this own, but I feel at home
Standing on this mountain high
And right where I am
Is where I wanna be
It's all I want
It's all I need
Forever in your arms
It's alright with me
'Cause right where I am's where I wanna be
Talk on the cell phone, checkin' her e-mail
The fax is a way of life
She's shoppin' at home with QVC on
And surfin' on-line
And right where I am
Is where I wanna be
It's all I want
It's all I need
Forever in your arms
It's alright with me
'Cause right where I am's where I wanna be
Satellite feed out in the country
Oh what a way of life
Turn off the tv
Shut down the pc
And cllick off the world tonight
And right where I am
Is where I wanna be
It's all I want
It's all I need
Forever in your arms
It's alright with me
'Cause right where I am's where I wanna be
Yeah....
Right where I am
Where I wanna be
Subways runnin' under the city
Satellite feed out in the country
Each to his own I feel at home
Standin' on this mountain high
Right where I am
Right where I am, where I wanna be
Rock of ages, cleft for me
Let me hide myself in Thee
Let the water and the blood
From Thy wounded side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure
Save from wrath and make me pure
Let the water and the blood
From Thy wounded side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure
Save from wrath and make me pure
While I draw this fleeting breath
When my eyes shall close in death
When I saw two worlds unknown
And see beyond Thy golden throne
Rock of ages, cleft for me
Let me hide myself in Thee

He was a good time, beer bar picker until the night she came along.
He gave up his women and his liquor, and she put the sad in all his songs.
Something about hermade him sorry.
She was holy in his eyes. She had him bound and hypnotized.
She put the sad in all his songs. She put the blues in his guitar.
She took what he had and she made it wrong.
She put the sad in all his songs.
She was the rattle snake that bit him.
SHe was the blow fromup behind.
She thought the tear in his eye just might fit him, and he was the last thing
on her mind.
She put the sad in all his songs. She put the blues in his guitar.
She took what he had and she made it wrong.
She put the sad in all his songs.

He was a stranger in a little town
She was sittin' alone in a crowd
Listening to the old jukebox playin' a song
From the moment we walked through the diner door
She felt something like never before
A feelin' so strong right from the start
It wouldn't stop, it was more than a spark
Fire on fire
They were burnin' up
Over a coffee cup, under the table they touched
Fire on fire
In each others eyes they just had to try
'Cause fire on fire just won't die
It was gettin' late but they had all night
They sat there talkin' 'bout their lives
He was sellin', she was gettin' ready to buy
That ole neon light was glowin' dim
But he could see by the way she was lookin' at him
Tonight would be different, somethin' had changed
His lonely heart was feelin' a flame
Fire on fire
They were burnin' up
Over a coffee cup, under the table they touched
Fire on fire
In each others eyes they just had to try
'Cause fire on fire just won't die
She needed him, he needed her
And they both knew, without a word
There was no question, there was no doubt
There was no way they could put it out
Fire on fire
They were burnin' up
Over a coffee cup, under the table they touched
Fire on fire
In each other's eyes they just had to try
'Cause fire on fire, fire on fire
Fire on fire just won't die
Fire on fire
Just won't die
Well northern Georgia highway 41
Beside the carpet mills and the gas stations
There was a music store slash radio shack
With the sound of dreamers jammin' in the back
Well we rocked all night and we rolled all day
We never bought nothing but we sure did play
The music was loud and the girls were pretty
There was always a magic down at Pete's Music City
Well we had electric guitars just a gathering dust
And a chrome mike stand with just a little bit of rust
And a couple of amps with the volume on ten
And when the last bell ringed that's when the music began
And we rocked all night...
[ guitar ]
Well the years have been long and they ain't been kind
They say all that's left is the old faded sign
But the music's still ringing loud in my heart
Down at Pete's Music City where I got my start
There's a teardrop falling slowly from my eyes tonight
As I think of your two arms that used to hold me so very tight
But you're gone now and girl I'm alone and blue
With just these pictures and memories of you
Pictures and memories of a love warm and true
Pictures of love we shared and the memories of you
But your pictures can't heal my chest of this hurt deep inside
Pictures and memories I feel like crying tonight
I may be crazy but you know sometimes I can almost feel your touch
Those who say I should be over you well, I guess they just never loved
As much I'd put your pictures where I couldn't see them
But I'd still see them in my mind
Just like your memories, they're right here with me all the time
Pictures and memories of a love warm and true
Pictures of love we shared and the memories of you
But your pictures can't heal my chest of this hurt deep inside
Pictures and memories I feel like crying tonight

Out here is the country there's magic in the air.
It's the middle of december there's excitement eveywhere
Everyone's invited, the celebration's planned
The gift is just what's in your heart and not what's in your hand
Chorus:
Who's the one we need to thanks
Who's the party for
Who's the one responsible for all this peace and joy
Who deserves the credit for the blessings we enjoy
Preacher said last sunday it was joesph and mary's boy
There were times we didn't think we'd make it through the year
The bankers tried to take our farms but somehow we're still here
I don't know how the crops survived the drought and then the rain
It must have been a miracle how else could you explain
Chorus
The christ child born in bethlehem
Katy brought my guitar back today.
I left it there to play, when I'd stay over.
And I remember all those nights
Sitting in the fireplace light,
And how she loved to hear me play;
Katy brought my guitar back today.
Katy brought my guitar back today.
I've seen it make her cry, over and over.
She told me when I wasn't there,
And she would wake up feelin' scared,
She'd hold it in her arms and be O.K.;
Katy brought my guitar back today.
We had our stormy times like anybody else;
Oh, more than once I broke her heart.
And when I couldn't tell her I was sorry by myself;
I could tell her with an old guitar.
But I'm afraid this time things have gone too far.
Katy brought my guitar back today.
I guess that means this time it's really over.
And as I sit and play it now,
The songs all seem so sad, somehow,
I wish that I'd of left it in the case
Katy brought my guitar back today.
And I remember all those nights
Sitting in the fireplace light,
And how she loved to hear me play;
He rattles his glass, she jumps up fast
And pours him a glass of tea
Deep in her heart she believes
That's the way it should be
Yeah, and I've seen my dad get fightin' mad
Over one little four-letter word
He'll tell you fast you don't talk
Like that around her
We may not see it the way they see it
We may not do it the way they do it
But she lives her life for him, he'd gladly die for her
And even in this modern age, it works
Though he's been down in his back
He still jumps out of that sack every mornin' at 5 a.m.
Havin' her home with the kids
Has been worth it to him
Yeah, and she takes pride in bein' his wife
And making their house a home
And sometimes she wishes the world
Would just leave them alone
We may not see it the way they see it
We may not do it the way they do it
But she lives her life for him, he'd gladly die for her
And even in this modern age, it works
If the good Lord's willin'
There will come a day
When our children will say
We may not see it the way they see it
We may not do it the way they do it
But she lives her life for him, he'd gladly die for her
And even in this modern age, it works
I had my rent-a-car flyin' down a two-lane road
Late for my plane again
Had to stop for some gas at this country store
That's when I saw the old man
He was kicked back, workin' on a big RC
Watchin' Gomer Pyle on his little TV
Took him awhile to even notice me
Sittin' there I thought to myself
Old man
(Old man)
You got one up on me
I'm still lookin' for my shady tree
With your two gas pumps and your color TV
You're satisfied as you can be
Old man
(Old man)
I guess you got one up on me
Well, he finally strolled over with a big ol' smile
Said, "How ya doin, son?"
I said, "Give me five dollars worth as fast as you can
'Cause I'm really in a run"
He said, "What's your hurry on a day like this?
If you move too fast, there's a lot you'll miss
If you wanna see what the good life is
Just get out and visit awhile"
Old man
(Old man)
You got one up on me
I'm still lookin' for my shady tree
With your two gas pumps and your color TV
You're satisfied as you can be
Old man
(Old man)
I guess you got one up on me
Don't remember just what it was the old man said to me
But I forgot about catchin' the plane and opened up the big RC
Old man
(Old man)
You got one up on me
I'm still lookin' for my shady tree
With your two gas pumps and your color TV
You're satisfied as you can be
Old man
(Old man)
I guess you got one up on me
Old man
Old man
Old man
Old man
Old man, you got one up on me
I've got her photograph on a stand by my bed
Two on the mantle and thousands in my head
I can't believe how fast she's growing it ain't supposed to be like this
Everytime I look at her, I see how much I've missed
I missed her first steps and her first words
And I love you Daddy, is something I seldom heard
Oh it hurts me so, to watch my girl grow
Up in pictures
I sent the money down, to my best to do my part
But it can't compare to what I paid with my heart
There's still one answered question that weighs heavy on my mind
Will she ever understand, the reasons why?
I missed her first steps and her first words
And I love you Daddy, something I seldom heard
Oh it hurts me so, to watch my girl grow
Up in pictures
Takes all I have to keep the tears inside
And what I wouldn't give if I could turn back time
I missed her first steps, her first words
And I love you Daddy, is something I seldom heard
Oh it hurts me so, to watch my baby grow
Sittin' here and rinkin'. Hey that's my fav'rite song.
What's that that Ihear ringin'? Would someone get the phone?
Wond'rin if she'll ever come home.
I've had no sleep, sad songs. I'm stoned.
Our love, a fadin mem'ry as I chase another down.
My eyes are gettin' heavy and my head's spinnin' 'round.
Stil wond'rin if she'll ever come home.
I've had no sleep, sad songs, I'm stoned.
Closing time, I drive for home not feelin' any pain.
Thoughts of her drift back tome through the fallin' rain.
Not caring if she ever come shome.
I've had no sleep, sad songs. I'm stoned.
Well the Magic Attic's where the music rolls
And the Army-Navy's got ol' Jackie soul
Down on Peaches Corner there are good ol' boys
And the Mother Fletchers makin' lots of noise
They're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Well the Tams are playin' at the Port-O-Call
And the Drifters underneath the Boardwalk
At the Sapnish Galleon and Ol' Fat Jacks
Jukebox playin' and the place is packed
You bet they're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
You know they're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Got the top down and the traffic's slow
And it's sun Fun Week and we all go
Where the girls are sunnin' and are lookin' good
Well I never met 'em but I wish I could
And we'd go dancin' and shaggin' on the boulevard
We'd go dancin' and shaggin' on the boulevard
Well the Embers singin' up on Ocean Drive
And the Castaways are gettin' loud tonight
At the Electric Circus they all getin' down
And the Carousel's spinnin' round and round
See them dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
I see 'em dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Well I'm hangin out down at Sloppy Joes
And they may doze but they never close
And the Bama Boys at the Bowery
Where they can't dance but they play for free
But they like dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
They know dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
They wrote dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
If you're gonna play in Texas
You gotta have a fiddle in the band
That lead guitar is hot
But not for a Louisiana man
So rosen up that both faded love
And let's all dance
If you're gonna play in Texas
You gotta have a fiddle in the band
I remember down in Houston
We were puttin' on a show
When a cowboy in the back stood up
And yelled ha ha Joe
He said,"We love what you're doing
Boys don't get us wrong
There's just something missing in your song"
If you're gonna play in Texas
You gotta have a fiddle in the band
That lead guitar is hot
But not for a Louisiana man
So rosen up that both faded love
And let's all dance
If you're gonna play in Texas
You gotta have a fiddle in the band
So he dusted off our boots
And put our cowboy hats on straight
Them Texans raised the roof
When Jeff opened up his case
Say y'all all want to two-step
Say you wanna do-ce-do
Well, here's a fiddling song before we go
If we're gonna play in Texas
We gotta have a fiddle in the band
That lead guitar is hot
But not for a Louisiana man
So rosen up that both faded love
And let's all dance
If we're gonna play in Texas
We gotta have a fiddle in the band
If we're gonna play in Texas
We gotta have a fiddle in the band
That lead guitar is hot
But not for a Louisiana man
So rosen up that both faded love
And let's all dance
If we're gonna play in Texas
How sweet and happy seem those days of which I dream
When memory recalls them now and then
And with what rapture sweet my weary heart would beat
If I could hear my mother pray again
If I could hear my mother pray again
If I could hear her tender voice as then
So happy I would be
Would mean so much to me
If I could hear my mother pray again
She used to pray that I on Jesus would rely
And always walked the shining gospel way
So trusting still his love
I seek that home above
Where I shall meet my mother some glad day
Within the old home place her patient smiling face
Was always spreading comfort hope and cheer
And when she used to sing to her eternal king
It was the songs the angels loved to hear
Her work on earth is done the life crown has been won
And she will be at rest with Him above
And some glad morning she I know will welcome me
To that eternal home of peace and love
If I could hear my mother pray again
If I could hear her tender voice as then
So happy I would be
Would mean so much to me
If I could hear my mother pray again
If I could hear my mother pray again
If I had you, we'd run like gypsies in the wind
We'd be lovers and we'd be friends, if I had you
If I had you, we'd count the stars all one by one
We'd make love till they were gone oh, if I had you
'Cause you light a fire way down in my soul
The flame keeps growin' stronger, 'cause there ain't no control
And there's nothing, no there's nothing
No there's nothing that I wouldn't do
If I had you
If I had you, we'd sail the seven seas as one
We'd never say it can't be done, oh, if I had you
'Cause you light a fire way down in my soul
The flame keeps growin' stronger there ain't no control
And there's nothing, oh, there's nothing
I know there's nothing that I wouldn't do
song: My Girl (December, 1964)
artist: Temptations
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.
When it's cold outside I've got the month of May.
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).
I've got so much honey the bees envy me.
I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees.
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Ooooh.
I don't need no money, fortune, or fame.
I've got all the riches baby one man can claim.
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
with my girl.
I've even got the month of May
with my girl (fade)
transcribed by Daniel H. Shulman
Why do you ask? Of course I'm alright
I guess I wasn't thinking I'd run into you tonight
Do I seem surprised? Guess you caught me off guard
Yes, I'm really doin' fine, no, it hasn't been that hard
How 'bout you, gettin' on with your life?
There's so much to tell you that I won't even try
My, it's good to see you, how long has it been
I must admit I think about you every now and then
Like when I open my eyes, when I lay down at night
Every moment ever since the day you said goodbye
You'll never know 'cause I keep it inside
How am I doin' without you? Of course I'm alright
Well, to tell you the truth, I guess I have felt better
God, just look at you, wow!
You make it look so easy, I can see it on your face
Everything we used to be is gone without a trace
If you wanna know, right now, I'm sinking fast
Girl, you always could see right behind this mask
But I won't give it away, gonna keep it inside
How am I doing without you? Of course I'm alright
Oh, I love those Colorado Rockies
And that big starry Montana sky
And the lights of San Francisco
On a California night
Enjoyed those ballgames in Chicago
On those windy afternoons
It's a big beautiful country
But I'm never home too soon
It ain't Dixie, it won't do
If it ain't Dixie it don't feel quite like home
My southern blood runs deep and true, oh yeah
I've had good times North of the line
I've got a lot of good friends too
But if it ain't Dixie, it won't do, it won't do
When the leaves turn in New England
I love the chill that's in the air
I've walked the New York City sidewalks
Had a big time in Times Square
But now my wheels, they're rollin' southward
Heaven's comin' into view, oh yeah
Home sweet home is Alabama
That's what I look forward to
If it ain't Dixie it don't feel quite like home
My southern blood runs deep and true, oh yeah
I've had good times North of the line
Got a lot of good friends too
If it ain't Dixie, it won't do
If it ain't Dixie, if it ain't Dixie
Oh no, no, oh no, oh yeah, oh yeah
Now my wheels are rollin' southward
And Heaven's comin' into view, oh yeah
Home sweet home is Alabama
That's what I look forward to
If it ain't Dixie, it won't do
I thought that you could fly, I thought that you had wings
I guess that I believed you'd never say goodbye
But my world stopped turning around, the stars turned upside down
It knocked me to the ground on my knees
Now there's a sad looking moon, shining down on me
There's a sad looking sky as far as I can see
I always believed and I thought the stars could see
But there's a sad looking moon, shining down on me
I shared with you my dreams, I gave you everything
I opened up my heart and I gave you my ring
Well I spent days and nights just thinking about the time
When you would be mine all my life
Now there's a sad looking moon, shining down on me
There's a sad looking sky as far as I can see
I always believed and I thought the stars could see
But there's a sad looking moon, shining down on me
There's a sad looking moon, a sad looking moon
She's still got those pretty eyes like she did in school
The first time that she looked at me, my heart went ka-boom
Today I saw that look again on sale in summer square
She looked so good in what she wore somehow it don't seem fair
She's got that look in her eyes just like she's always had
She's got that smile on her lips that always drives me mad
When she looks at me the way I feel comes as no surprise
I love that look when she's got that look in her eyes
Just today she looked at me and I felt like a kid
Even thought I'm grown up now the puzzle seems to fit
I may never have her but I'll still love her still
Oh I may never hold her in my mind I always will
She's got that look in her eyes just like she's always had
She's got that smile on her lips that always drives me mad
When she looks at me the way I feel comes as no surprise
I love that look when she's got that look in her eyes
When she looks at me the way I feel comes as no surprise
Atlanta was on fire and so was she the night he left her
Left her there to bear her pain alone
Hoping soon to return, burn, Georgia, burn
The roaring of the guns filled the emptiness inside her
Where once she felt the pounding of her heart
When he held her in his arms, tenderness they learned
Burn, Georgia, burn
He was the body, she was the soul
Of a love affair they couldn't control
While the world was falling down around them
They were not concerned, burn, Georgia, burn
Winter brought the snow and a rider down from Franklin
With news of how the war had taken toll
And he would not return, burn, Georgia, burn
He was the body, she was the soul
Of a love affair they couldn't control
While her world was falling down around them
They were not concerned, burn, Georgia, burn
While strolling through her mind
She stumbled on an old, familiar feeling
Of how he touched her many years ago
The closer you get, the further I fall
I'll be over the edge now in no time at all
I'm falling faster and faster and faster with no time to stall
The closer you get, the further I fall
Could I be dreaming?
Is this really real?
'Cause there's something magic
The way that I feel in your arms tonight
The closer you get, oh yeah, the further I fall
I'll be over the edge now in no time at all
I'm falling faster and faster and faster with no time to stall
The closer you get, the further I fall
Keep fallin', oh, yeah, yeah
Keep fallin', fallin', oh, yeah, yeah
I'm fallin'
Yes, I'm fallin'
(Yes, I'm fallin')
(Yes, I'm fallin')
Yes, I'm fallin'
(Yes, I'm fallin')
(Yes, I'm fallin')
Yes, we'll fallin'
(Yes, we'll fallin')
(Yes, we'll fallin')
The closer you get, the further I fall
I'll be over the edge now in no time at all
I'm falling faster and faster and faster with no time to stall, oh yeah
The closer you get, the further I fall
The closer you get, the further I fall
I'll be over the edge now in no time at all
I'm falling faster and faster and faster with no time to stall
You go out on the town feelin' alright
Leavin' me here alone, you're stayin' all night
You're good to me do somethin' sweet
Tonight you're back out on the street
Lovin' you the way I do is killin' me
You're good to me do somethin' sweet
Tonight you're back out on the street
Lovin' you the way I do is killin' me
I don't blame you for havin' fun
As long as I'm your only one
So go on out, have a time, have a good time
Don't forget if he asks, you're still mine
You're tellin' me the same old lies
And I don't need your alibis
Lovin' you the way I do is killin' me
Lovin' you the way I do is killin' me
this white trash sunset
no exit off of this freeway
this southern climate
humid kill vultures meal freeway
my redneck mistress
victory for those who leave this freeway
trailer suburbia
prison cell, part of hell freeway
state where fast is always slow
so the wind cant ever blow
hopelessly yours alabama
void of beauty for miles
three tooth smile, change the dial freeway
abandoned autos
one bedroom home for the drunk and stoned freeway
nothing ever sits just right
we'll escape this place tonight
hopelessly yours alabama
hopelessly yours alabama
Before we ever made the headlines
Or toured the concert halls
We survived our share of bar rooms
Stared at many motel walls
The years in Carolina
And all the one night stands
What kept the fires a burnin'
Back then, was you the fans
We two stepped out to Texas
Round and round the dance hall floors
Played the fair in Minnesota
I wish we could've played one more
We hope you remember
We're just the boys in the band
And what keeps the fires a burnin'
Is always, you the fans
I wish this night could last forever
Ah, but the show must go on
And we'll take home the memories
And we'll leave you with our songs
It's been good to see ya'll
Can we come back again? And again, and again
What keeps the fires a burnin'
In us, is you the fans
As long as you remember
The boys in the band
We'll keep the fires a burnin'
Early morning, and as I rise
You won't even open your eyes
You used to love this time together
Now you won't even say goodbye
With the passin' time I've watched you change
My love for you still remains the same
Your love for me used to come so easy
Now it seldom comes at all
Could it be we're really over?
Has all the lovin' gone?
Is it fin'lly time to face the hurt
I've dreaded for so long
Tell me what in the name of love
Have I done wrong?
I hope in time we'll find a way
To bring our lovin' back someday
If your new life's not what you expected
Call and I'll come back home
I hate to leave but I've got to go home
Don't ask why, I'm sure you know
Your love for me, I can't share with another
It hurts me so
Could it be we're really over?
Has all the lovin' gone?
Is it fin'lly time to face the hurt
I've dreaded for so long
Tell me what in the name of love
Have I done wrong?
Could it be we're really over?
Has all the lovin' gone?
Is it fin'lly time to face the hurt
I've dreaded for so long
Tell me what in the name of love
Have I done wrong?
Early morning, and as I rise
You won't even open your eyes
Your love for me used to come so easy
She said, "I spent eight years in California
That's the reason why I talk the way I do
But I've heard how Southern men respect the ladies
And I'd like to meet a gentleman like you"
Well, I spent most of my life in Alabama
That's the reason why I talk the way I do
And I've always had this thing for sun-tanned ladies
And I'd really like to spend some time with you
And we walked on the beach till early morning
And we watched as the sun came up again
And somehow we both shared the feelin'
That we'd just made a very special friend
Tomorrow I'll go back to Alabama
And you'll fly from Atlanta to L.A
And I'll get back to takin' care of business
And you'll go back to starrin' on the stage
But we'll think of the beach come Monday morning
When both of us get back to push and shove
And somehow we will always remember
The night we shared a very special love
I spent most of my life in Alabama
That's the reason why I talk the way I do
I know we shared a very special friendship
Calling, calling all angels
Oh I?m calling, calling all angels
The night was still, the moon was bright when he saw a distant light
So he started walkin? till he found a church outside of town
And he stumbled in and closed the door, said, "Why I?m here, I?m not sure
It?s my baby that I?m lookin? for, can?t she see I?m down on my knees?"
I?ve been calling, calling all angels
Bring my baby back, oh you must know where she?s at
Tell me what to do, I know that she?s one of you
I?m down on my knees, tell her please that I love her so
Tell me preacher, man to man, "Will you do all that you can?"
I?ve done wrong, this I know, and I really hurt her so
It?s a lonely world I?m livin? in, an ocean of tears I been cryin?
In this greatest hour of need, what can be done for a fool like me?
Oh, I?m calling, calling all angels
Bring my baby back, oh you must know where she?s at
Yes I?ve been a fool and I know that she?s one of you
Now do this for me, tell her please
And if she?s lonely I?ll make her understand
That these arms can carry both of us back to heaven again
Yes I?ve been a fool and I know that she?s one of you
Do this for me, tell her please
Calling, calling all angels
Hear me calling, calling all angels
Oh I?m calling, calling all angels
Hear me calling, calling all angels
Oh I?m calling, calling all angels
Anytime you wanna love me, you can love me anytime
Early morning, late at night, anytime the time is right
Oh, if you want to hold me, well, you know that you can
Anytime, anytime, I?m your man
Baby you?re something, you?re something else
I?ll keep you?re loving all to myself
I live for the moment when it?s just you and me
Baby, just you and me
Anytime you wanna love me you can love me anytime
?Cause I?m ready and I?m willing, name the place, name the time
December through November, just give me your hand
Anytime, anytime, I?m your man
So hold me closer, close as you can
Whisper to me, now what?s your plan
You can trust me, understand
Baby, understand
Anytime you wanna love me, you can love me anytime
Oh, if you want to hold me
Well, you know you always can
I don't mind the cold and rain where I'm waiting
I'm holding on to your mem'ry as tight as I can
And silver wings are bringing you back so I can hold you
And let me know that I'm still your lovin' man
You carry my dreams through the darkness while I'm sleeping
The part of love that I need to fit my plan
And I don't need nobody else to ease my feelings
As long as I can be your lovin' man
I been waiting here for days to see that big steel bird arrive
And just the thought of lovin' you is what's kept this man alive
Share with me all the joy life can bring us
Though my kingdoms may be castles made of sand
Darlin', please spend your sunshine days beside me
And let me always be your lovin' man
Your lovin' man
(Lovin' man)
Let me be your lovin' man
(Your lovin' man, lovin' man)
Let me be your lovin' man
(Your lovin' man, lovin' man)
Let me be your lovin' man
It's her first night on the town
Since she was just 18
A lady down on love
And out of hope and dreams
The ties that once bound her
Now are broke away
And she's like a baby
Just learnin' how to play
She never thought that love
Could ever end so soon
Her mind drifts back in time
To a mid summer moon
When he asked her to marry
And she gladly said okay
And a woman came to be
From the girl of yesterday
Now she's a lady
Down on love
She needs somebody
To gently pick her up
She's got her freedom
But she'd rather be bound
To a man who would love her
And never let her down
Well, I know the lady
That's down on her love
'Cause I used to hold her
And have that special touch
But work took me away
From home late at nights
And I wasn't there
When she turned out the lights
Then both of us got lonely
And I gave into lust
And she just couldn't live
With a man she couldn't trust
Now she's a lady
Down on love
She needs somebody
To gently pick her up
She's got her freedom
But she'd rather be bound
To a man who would love her
And never let her down
Now she's a lady
Oh I know your kind.
You would kill your kin for the right price.
Oil and water are thicker than blood.
Oh I know your type.
Use us to get what you wanted.
You can't finish what you started.
Find it kind of funny how you try to rectify the damage.
Your failure to find compromise.
The walls are coming down.
Will you survive sacrifice or tumble to the ground?
Your lying to yourself.
And to everyone that knows your name.
You play the part of the fool so well.
Oh I know your type.
Use us to get what you wanted.
You can't even finish what you started.
Find it kind of funny how you try to rectify the damage.
Your failure to find compromise.
The walls are coming down.
Will you survive sacrifice or tumble to the ground?
Oh I know your type.
Your failure to find compromise.
The walls are coming down.
Will you survive sacrifice or tumble to the ground?
Rollin' down a backwoods, Tennessee byway, one arm on the wheel
Holdin' my lover with the other, a sweet, soft, southern thrill
Worked hard all week, got a little jingle, on a Tennessee Saturday night
Couldn't feel better, I'm together with my Dixieland delight
Spend my dollar, parked in a holler 'neath the mountain moonlight
Hold her uptight, make a little lovin'
A little turtle dovin' on a Mason Dixon night
Fits my life, oh so right, my Dixieland delight
Whitetail buck deer, munchin' on clover, redtail hawk settin' on a limb
Chubby old groundhog, croakin' bullfrog, free as the feelin' in the wind
Home grown country girl, gonna give me a whirl
On a Tennessee Saturday night
Lucky as a seven, livin' in Heaven, with my Dixieland delight
Spend my dollar, parked in a holler 'neath the mountain moonlight
Hold her uptight, make a little lovin'
A little turtle dovin' on a Mason Dixon night
Fits my life, oh so right, my Dixieland delight
Spend my dollar, parked in a holler 'neath the mountain moonlight
Hold her uptight, make a little lovin'
A little turtle dovin' on a Mason Dixon night
Fits my life, oh so right, my Dixieland delight
Rollin' down a backwoods, Tennessee byway, one arm on the wheel
I was raised in the shadow of an old cotton mill,
back when believin' was in style.
Smalltown heaven and a big-eyed boy made sweet music for a while.
My daddy worked hard down at the facotry.
Nights he went to G.I. school.
He didn't know nothin' 'bout the silver spoon,
but he lived by the golden rule.
Summer nights he was gone;
me and mama stayed home,
out on the front porch swing,
wishin' on the stars in the southern sky,
and sometimes we used to sing.
We were leaning,
leaning on the everlasting arms of love,
livin' all the simple joys this Dixie boy is made of.
Got my real educationfrom the T.V. station
and good ole boys down at the park.
The say "Hey, Willie" and those rock-a-billies played their way into my
heart.
I remember the old folks sittin'
'round talkin' on laidback Sunday afternoons.
They said them young folks sure got a hard road.
Oh, they're growin' up too soon.
Now I know they were right,
and as I sit here tonight out on the front porch
swing, the stars are shinin' in my young boy's eyes,
just like they did for me;
We are leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms of love,
There are people in this country who work hard every day
Not for fame or fortune do they strive
But the fruits of their labor are worth more than their pay
And it's time a few of them were recognized
Hello Detroit auto workers let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin' just to send it on down the line
Hello Pittsburgh steel mill workers let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line
This is for the one who swings the hammer, driving home the nail
Or the one behind the counter, ringing up the sale
Or the one who fights the fires, the one who brings the mail
For everyone who works behind the scenes
You can see them every morning in the factories and the fields
In the city streets and the quiet country towns
Working together like spokes inside a wheel
They keep this country turning around
Hello Kansas wheat field farmer, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line
Hello West Virginia coal miner, let me thank you for your time
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line
This is for the one who drives the big rig, up and down the road
Or the one out in the warehouse, bringing in the load
Or the waitress, the mechanic, the policeman on patrol
For everyone who works behind the scenes
With a spirit you can't replace with no machine
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so
Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak but He is strong
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so
Jesus loves me still today
Walking with me on my way
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so
Yes, Jesus loves me
(Yes, Jesus loves me)
Yes, Jesus loves me
(Yes, Jesus loves me)
Yes, Jesus loves me
(Yes, Jesus loves me)
Yes, Jesus loves me
Drift off and dream in your paper-doll world
Play with the presents from the boys and the girls
Your big day is over, the cake is all gone
We sang you to sleep with the birthday song
No, you'll never be one again
The two's are tumblin' on in
Daddy's little girl is growin' up in the world
You'll never be one again
The toy piano is quiet in the hall
As Kermie the frog sits watching it all
And soon your legs will grow and make the tricycle go
And take you away from us all
No, you'll never be one again
The two's are tumblin' on in
Daddy's little girl is growin' up in the world
You'll never be one again
Alabama
Alabama
In the year 63 we heard a distant cry
Raging madness
Helpless sadness
And a voice choked with dismay
Asking why
We stopped breathing
We were listening
And the walls they resonate
With deep silence forever
Alabama
Someone joined in
Started singing
With his fingers
Sliding over his instrument
Took the grief in
With humility
At the sound of his horn
The room fell silent
He was breathing
We were listening
And the walls they resonate
With deep silence forever
Alabama
Whispered sighs in
Broken phrases
Stretching out
The warming blanket of compassion
Wisps of scales in
Broken melodies
Sounds that rouse
The minds of a new generation
And we're breathing
And we're listening
And the music lingers on
In deep silence forever
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses
And He walks with me, and He talks with me
And He tells me, I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing
And He walks with me, and He talks with me
And He tells me, I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
I'd stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me be falling
But He bids me go through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling
And He walks with me, and He talks with me
And He tells me, I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
And the joy we share as we tarry there
You say hello, I say goodbye
You go your way and I go mine
There's not much time for you and I these days
We work too hard, we're gone too much
And we're too tired to even touch
So just how long can we go on this way
Oh, life's too short to love this fast
If we don't slow down our hearts won't last
We can't keep up this pace we're on right now
We burn the candle at both ends
The circle turns, we start again
Let's make our future better than our past
Life's too short to love this fast
Let's take some time, let's get away
Let's pack our bags and leave today
Girl, anyplace would be okay right now
Just leave your pager here at home
And I won't carry my cell phone
We need to find some time alone somehow
Yeah, life's too short to love this fast
If we don't slow down our hearts won't last
We can't keep up this pace we're on right now
We burn the candle at both ends
The circle turns, we start again
Let's make our future better than our past
Life's too short to love this fast
We're spinnin' our wheels
Forgetting how love feels
Let's slow down before it's too late
'Cause life's too short to love this fast
If we don't slow down our hearts won't last
Let's make our future better than our past
Life's too short to love this fast
(Life's too short to love this fast)
Love this fast
(Life's too short to love this fast)
What's goin' on with the sun and the moon
'Cause one's goin' down too early, one's comin' up too soon
The hands on my old clock
Tell me once again that I'm fallin' behind
There's too much to do and not enough time
Keepin' up, I'm movin' as fast as I can
Keepin' up, in a circle that never ends
Well, I can't stop, like it or not, I'm stuck
It's runnin' me to death and I'm out of breath, keepin' up
There's no such thing for me as a nine to five
It takes more sweat than that just to get us by
It's like I'm chasin' my own tail
'Cause Monday mornin' starts another stressed out week
The world is breathing down my neck, I can feel the heat
Keepin' up, I'm movin' as fast as I can
Keepin' up, in a circle that never ends
Well, I can't stop, like it or not, I'm stuck
It's runnin' me to death and I'm out of breath, keepin' up
By the time we make ends meet
There's not much left for you and me
And no job security
It sure makes it tough
Keepin' up, keepin' up
Well, I can't stop, like it or not, I'm stuck
It's runnin' me to death and I'm out of breath, keepin' up
I'm movin' as fast as I can
Keepin' up, in a circle that never ends
Keepin' up, well, I can't stop
Keepin' up, like it or not
Keepin' up, I'm movin' as fast as I can
Keepin' up, in a circle that never ends
Keepin' up, well, I can't stop
Keepin' up, like it or not
Keepin' up, I'm movin' as fast I can
Keepin' up, in a circle that never ends
Alabama
it'd been too long since I'd been home
alabama
she knows when I'm feeling alone
alabama
she called me and I came
alabama
but now she don't look the same
chorus:
they put a lightbulb in your face
U.S. timbre leaves no trace
just a subdivided space
and all the people i have missed
put a chain link around their wrists
and you're losing a losing race
alabama
they pulled the rope-swing from your yard
alabama
she takes losing so hard
alabama
and now your eyes are full of smoke
alabama
i believe my heart is broke
chorus
everyone has said goodbye
and i'm so lonesome i could cry
Alabama
We all fiddled while your bridges burned
Alabama
look, the leaves are beginning to turn
Well you get down the fiddle and you get down the bow
Kick off your shoes and you throw them on the floor
Dance in the kitchen 'till the morning light
Louisiana Saturday Night
Waitin' in the front yard, sittin' on a log
A single shot rifle and a one-eyed dog
Yonder come our kin-folk in the moonlight
Louisiana Saturday Night
Well you get down the fiddle and you get down the bow
Kick off your shoes and you throw them on the floor
Dance in the kitchen 'till the morning light
Louisiana Saturday Night
My brother Bill and my other brother Jack
Barrel full of beer and a possum in a sack
Fifteen kids in the front porch light
Louisiana Saturday Night
When the kin-folk leave and the kids get fed
Me and my woman gonna slip off to bed
Have a little fun when we turn out the lights
Louisiana Saturday Night
Well you get down the fiddle and you get down the bow
Kick off your shoes and you throw them on the floor
Dance in the kitchen 'till the morning light
There's a full moon risin'
Comin' up behind them cypress trees
Betty Jo ain't wearin' nothin' 'round her body
But a cool night breeze
Her daddy warned me
Boy, don't come 'round here no more
But here I am knockin'
On sweet Betty's door
Louisiana moon
Done cast it's spell on me
(Yeah)
Louisiana moon
Makes a man do crazy things
We slipped off to a place
In the swamp where nobody goes
Down by the water
Where the snakes and the alligator's play
Nobody follows
'Cause there's evil in there
Uh, I ain't scared of nothin'
When I'm holdin' Betty tight
Louisiana moon
Done cast it's spell on me
(Yeah)
Louisiana moon
Makes a man do crazy things
I can't stay away
'Cause I love the thrill
If the gator's don't get me
Her daddy will
Louisiana moon
Done cast it's spell on me
(Yeah, oh yeah, yeah)
Louisiana moon
Makes a man do crazy things
(Yeah)
Louisiana moon
Done cast it's spell on me
(Yeah)
Louisiana moon
Makes a man do crazy, crazy things
(Oh)
Louisiana moon
Done cast it's spell on me
(Yeah)
Louisiana moon
Makes a man do crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy things
Louisiana moon
Well, you got to walk that lonesome valley
You got to walk it by yourselves
Nobody else can walk it for you
You got to walk it by yourselves
Now mother walked that lonesome valley
She had to walk it by herself
Cause nobody else could walk it for her
She had to walk it by herself
Now father walked that lonesome valley
He had to walk it by himself
Nobody else could walk it for him
He had to walk it by himself
Now John, they say, he was a Baptist
While others say, he was a Jew
But the holy bible plainly tells you
Oh, that he was a preacher too
Yeah, you got to walk that lonesome valley
You got to walk it by yourselves
Ain't nobody else gonna go there for you
You got to go there by yourselves
Yeah, we got to walk that lonesome valley
We got to walk it by ourselves (by ourselves)
Cause nobody else (nobody else) can walk it for us
We got to walk it by ourselves
Yeah, we got to walk (we got to walk)
That lonesome valley (that lonesome valley)
We got to walk (we got to walk) it by ourselves (by ourselves)
Lord, nobody else (nobody else) can walk it for us
(Can walk it for you)
We got to walk (we got to walk) it by ourselves
Hey, hey baby
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey, hey baby
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
When I saw you walking down the street
I said that's the kind of girl I'd like to meet
She's so pretty, Lord she's fine
I'm gonna make her mine all mine
Hey, hey baby
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
When you turned and walked away
That's when I want to say now
Come on baby give me a whirl
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Now hey, hey baby
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
When you turned and walked away
That's when I wanna say
Come on baby give me a whirl
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey, hey baby
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey, hey baby
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
Hey, hey, hey, hey baby
I wanna know if you'll be my girl
{Hey Jim do you ever seen so many good looking women
On the beach till day
Ooh look at that blonde
Look at that blonde
Yeah, yeah got it
Hey baby, hey where is, that's my wife
Hey baby come on over here a minute, hey
I-I-I beg your pardon, I'm sorry
My nights belong to the sandman
'Cause I sure like a dream
My morning's belong to the wild-woods
'Cause I like to hear birds sing
My soul belongs to Heaven
My feet belong to my shoes
Oh but, baby, my love belongs to you
My thoughts belong on tomorrow
'Cause today is all but gone
My memories belong on yesterday
'Cause I like to recall
My wishes belong upon a star
'Cause I believe they come true
But, baby, my love belongs to you
My love belongs to you
You and only you
These words are my heart talking
Believe me, girl, they're true
Oh my wishes belong upon a star
'Cause I believe they come true
Oh but my, baby, you know my love belongs to you
Well, here it comes again
That old feelin' so strong
You came into my life
I won your love for a song
And when I see you in my mind baby
Think of the words you will say
And in a mist of desire
Your love takes me away
Girl you take me away
In a mist of desire
And our love's not an ember baby
It's a raging fire
I need to be with you
What else can I say
In a mist of desire
Your love takes me away
I feel the love when we touch
I can see it in your face
I get lost in the shadows of your warm embrace
And you rush into my arms
My emotions run wild
And we're off to a love world
In a mist of desire
Girl you take me away
In a mist of desire
And our love's not an ember baby
It's a raging fire
I need to be with you
What else can I say
In a mist of desire
Your love takes me away
In a mist of desire
When the last drop of rain has fallen
When the final note has drifted away
When the earth ceases to turn
And the last fire has burned
When the wind stops its ceaseless blowing
When the last wave has come into shore
When the sun has called it a day
And the stars have all floated away
My heart will still be yours, baby
My dreams will still be yours, darlin'
You and I will find nothing has changed
Love, love, love
Love, love, love remains
When we have grown old together
And the hourglass runs out of sand
Darlin' you will kiss me and then
Forever starts all over again
My heart will still be yours, baby
My dreams will still be yours, darlin'
You and I will find nothing has changed
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
My soul is one with yours, baby
Just to hold you drives me crazy
In your eyes I see you feel the same
Love, love, love
Love, love, love remains
Love remains like an endless flame
Through the brightest joys and the darkest pain
In the end
My heart will still be yours, baby
My dreams will still be yours, darlin'
You and I will find nothing has changed
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
My soul is one with yours, baby
Just to hold you drives me crazy
In your eyes I see you feel the same
Love, love, love
Love, love, love remains
Love, love, love
Love, love still remains
Love, love, love
Love, love remains
Love, love, love
Love remains
Love, love, love
Love, love still remains
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love still remains
Oh, love, love, love
Love, love, love
Oh, love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
The old cowboy sits around the camp fire
Talks about faith and talks about love
The greatest gift of all
Love lifted me, love lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me
I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore
Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more
But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I
Love lifted me, love lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me
All my heart I'll give to him, ever to Him I'll cling (Him I'll cling)
In His blessed presence live ever His praises sing (praises sing}
Love so mighty and so true merits my soul's best songs
Faithful, loving service, too, to Him belongs
Love lifted me, love lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me
When nothing else could help
American pride, something you feel inside
Something you can't describe American pride
Dad said, "Son I'm proud you won
But the game is more than any toy"
Mama said, "Now son say sir and say ma'am
And be proud you're southern born"
You play when you're hurt and you work when you're tired
'Cause that was Grandpa's way
And the biscuits are better at Granny's house
And the gravy taste great all day
American pride, yes it is something you feel inside
Something you can't describe, something you cannot hide
American pride, something you feel inside
Traditions run deep and wide with American pride
When a baby is born we all celebrate
With tears of joy in family eyes
'Cause we all know the baby will grow
Up with American pride
Yeah, we work and we play and we have our own ways
And we don't all look alike
But if the 'cause is right we stand up and fight
To protect our American pride
Sing it, sing it, sing it
American pride, yes it is something you feel inside
It's something you can't describe, it's something you cannot hide
American pride, something you feel inside
Traditions run deep and wide with American pride
Amazing Grace How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils and strife
I have already come
Tis grace that's brought me safe this far
And grace will lead me home
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less grace to see God's face
Than when we first begun
Amazing Grace How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see
There's a road that I remember leading to a special place
Where the door was always open to a smiling face
There's a picture on the mantle of a boy that looks like me
It's always the same, there's a stocking with my name
And a candle in the window, a flame against the night
There's a candle in the window, it's like God's perfect light
It don't take a lot of money to know what riches are
Just a candle in the window, oh it's Christmas in your heart, in your heart
Maybe it's just wishful thinking, I can hear the sleigh bells ring
Almost taste the pie she's baking, it's Christmas Eve
There's a candle in the window, there's a flame against the night
There's candle in the window, it's like God's perfect light
It don't take lots of money to know what riches are
Just a candle in the window and Christmas in your heart
Wherever the years may take me, no matter how far I go
There's going to be a candle burning, it's always nice to know
It don't take a lot of money to know what riches are
A simple candle in the window and Christmas in your heart
Your heart, your heart
A candle in the window
There's a light in your eyes tonight
You know I'd know that look anywhere
You got plans and I'm one lucky man
Before we get so carried away
There's just something I've been wanting to say
When we make love
Its more to me than just an affair I want you to know how much I care
When we make love
Oh its such a precious time we share our hearts, our souls and our minds
When we make love, oh yeah
Watching you make your little moves
Well I can tell it's gonna be a long night
All day long, we keep holding on
It couldn't be any better than this
I got it all in my fingertips
When we make love
Oh its more than just an affair I want you to know how much I care
When we make love
Oh its such a precious time we share our hearts, our sols and our minds
These moments, these feelings
When we make love
Its more to me than just an affair I want you to know how much I care
When we make love
Oh its such a precious time we share our hearts, our souls and our minds
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah
You're still the lady of my dreams
You're still my high school beauty queen
To me it's still magic when we touch
And I have never loved you so much
As right now
As right now
You're still my actress on the screen
Still the leading lady in my scenes
To me, it's still magic when we touch
And I've still never loved someone so much
As right now
As right now
As right now
You're still the one I'm with when I'm alone
And you're still the lover calling on my phone
To me, it's still magic when we touch
And I will never love someone so much
As right now
As right now
As right now
As right now
As right now
As right now
Songwriter: Jennings, Waylon
Lord, it's the same ol' tune, fiddle, and guitar
Where do we take it from here
Rhinestone suits and new, shiny cars
It's been the same way for years
We made the change
Somebody told us when we came to Nashville
"Boys, you really got it made
"Ol' Hank made it here, we're all sure that you will"
But I don't think Hank done it this way
I don't think Hank done it this way
Been years on the road workin' one night stands
Speedin' my young life away
Yeah, tell me one more time just so's I'll understand
Are you sure Hank done it this way
Did ol' Hank really do it this way
Yeah, I've seen the world with a four piece band
Lookin' sideways at me
Singin' our songs one hears now and then
But I don't think Hank done 'em this way
No, I don't think Hank done 'em this way
Anytime you wanna love me, you can love me anytime
Early morning, late at night, anytime the time is right
Oh, if you want to hold me, well, you know that you can
Anytime, anytime, I?m your man
Baby you?re something, you?re something else
I?ll keep you?re loving all to myself
I live for the moment when it?s just you and me
Baby, just you and me
Anytime you wanna love me you can love me anytime
?Cause I?m ready and I?m willing, name the place, name the time
December through November, just give me your hand
Anytime, anytime, I?m your man
So hold me closer, close as you can
Whisper to me, now what?s your plan
You can trust me, understand
Baby, understand
Anytime you wanna love me, you can love me anytime
Oh, if you want to hold me
Well, you know you always can
I was walking home from school on a cold winter day
Took a shortcut through the woods, and I lost my way
It was getting late, and I was scared and alone
But then a kind old man took my hand and led me home
Mama couldn't see him, oh but he was standing there
And I knew in my heart, he was the answer to my prayers
Oh well I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love
When life held troubled times, and had me down on my knees
There's always been someone to come along and comfort me
A kind word from a stranger, to lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend, just to say I understand
And ain't it kind of funny at the dark end of the road
That someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope
Oh well I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love
They wear so many faces, show up in the strangest places
To grace us with their mercy, in our time of need
Oh well I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love
You can tell a lot about a man by the woman he loves
Nothing else shows a part of his soul like she does
And she?d be the one to swear that he hung the moon above
Yeah you can tell a lot about a man by the woman he loves
She knows him inside out the things he dreams about
And makes them come true when she can she knows all of his faults
The demons he?s fought, nothin? but his hard workin? hands
And he?s called out her name in passion and pain
She?s makes him stronger each time yes, it?s there on her lips
In her fingertips that she?s with him to the end of the line
Yeah you can tell a lot about a man by the woman he loves, yes you can
Nothing else shows a part of his soul like she does
She?d be the one to swear that he hung the moon above
Yeah you can tell a lot about a man by the woman he loves
You can tell a lot about a man by the woman he loves
'Cause nothing else shows a part of his soul like she does
She?d be the one to swear that he hung the moon above
Yeah you can tell a lot about a man by the woman he loves
Yeah, you can tell a lot about a man by the woman he loves
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight
Over the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
You've got your secrets, girl I've got mine
We're fallin' apart one glance at a time
Night after night, actin' like strangers
Out of emotion, nothing to say
I brush your shoulder but you turn away
Nobody tries, nobody's changin'
Who'll be the first to say it's really the end
Who's gonna walk out the door
How did we let it get so out of control
Our hearts can't take anymore
Then we remember how much we love each other
Pick the pieces up for one more try
Then we remember how much we need each other
Do we really wanna say goodbye
One night of passion won't stop the pain
Back to the same old feelin' again
Time after time, is it worth savin'
Who'll be the first to say it's really the end
Who's gonna walk out the door
How did we let it get so out of control
Our hearts can't take anymore
Then we remember how much we love each other
Pick the pieces up for one more try
Then we remember how much we need each other
Do we really wanna say goodbye
Then we remember how much we love each other
Pick the pieces up for one more try
Then we remember how much we need each other
Do we really wanna say goodbye
Then we remember how much we love each other
Pick the pieces up for one more try
Then we remember how much we need each other
Do we really wanna say goodbye
Then we remember how much we love each other
Pick the pieces up for one more try
Then we remember how much we need each other
We could walk away now, call it over and done
Say we fought the good fight and nobody won
Say we're both better off that worst came to worst
So we didn't last, hey, we're not the first
But then again, if we give it one more try
We might find the feeling never really die
And there's still a chance to be all we might have been
And find the love we had back then again
Off to such a good start but somehow it seems
We've let our hearts fall apart at the dreams
We could throw in the towel walk away with our pride
Say it just wasn't worth all the tears that we've cried
Then again, if we give it one more try
We might find the feeling never really die
There's still a chance to be all we might have been
Let's find the love we had back then again
Maybe if we want it bad enough
We can make it better than it ever was
And there's still a chance to be all we might have been
Every generation blames the one before
And all of their frustrations come beating on your door
I know that I'm a prisoner to all my father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage to all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could've told him in the living years
Oh, crumpled bits of paper filled with imperfect thoughts
Stilted conversations I'm afraid that's all we've got
You say you just don't see it he says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement in this present tense
We all talk a different language, talking in defense
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye
So we open up a quarrel between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future it's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes you sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective on a different day
And if you don't give up and don't give in, you may just be okay
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye
I wasn't there that morning when my father passed away
I didn't get to tell him all the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo in my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye
Say it loud, say it clear
Say it loud, say it clear
Say it loud, say it clear

Let's roll the windows down, turn the radio up let the wind blow
Through our hair love is reckless let's get reckless tonight
Verse 1:
There ain't nothin' out here but a big ol' texas sky
There's a red sun painted across the coming night
Well, your daddy's got plans for you
And mine thinks I'm at school
They say it's reckless to chase a dream
But this town's got nothing for you and me
Chorus:
Let's roll the windows down, turn the radio up
Let the wind blow through our hair
There's a moon tonight and a road outside, baby
We're gettin out of here.
I could care less where it leads us
Love is reckless let's get reckless tonight
Verse 2:
Let's take my thunderbird and leave tonight,
I'll keep the pedal to the floor till we see the morning light.
They can't live our lives for us,
If we let them we'll lose our love.
And love dies hard in this texas sun,
I'd rather be reckless and on the run
Chorus
When you're crazy in love you gotta take a chance,
Burn the bridge and don't look back.
Turn the radio up roll the windows down
Let the wind blow through our hair
There's a moon tonight and a road outside,
Baby we're gettin' out of here
Roll the windows down.
Oh, John Dillon James was my good time country buddy
Well, we hunted, talked and fished his last days away
He was just a hired farm hand, worked old man Walker's land
Retired on his 68th birthday
Yeah, he wore a size sixteen shoe, had skin like alligator
Lord, he could pick up a deer and walk right out of those woods
Old Dillon had a million tales but he sung me one refrain
And I recall that song by John Dillon James
One July Monday morning I met him at the fishing hole
But old Dillon wasn't toting his half pint of tin hide
His roll your own tobacco string was a-hanging from his pocket
His eyes were red as beets, looked like he cried
And I know he sat on knees cause his overalls were muddy
But my ten year old mind didn't understand
He sat down on the bank and wrote this four line refrain
And I recall that song by John Dillon James
Well, I got my ticket for the ride in the sky
I've been talking to the man, I'm gonna fly
Paid the price down on my knees
A voice from heaven promised me
I got my ticket for the ride in the sky
Well, it was one year to the day on a July Monday morning
I waited at the fishing hole but old Dillon, he didn't show
Daddy came down about noon, and said
Son, I've got some news
Lord's rested old Dillon's soul
Yeah, and I walked up to his bedside
Looked down at old big Dillon
Lord knows that I saw a pair of wings
That tables set but I felt good, for at last I understood
That refrain sung by John Dillon James
Well, I got my ticket for the ride in the sky, Lord, y'all
I've been talking to the man, I'm gonna fly (I'm gonna fly)
I paid the price down on my knees
A voice from heaven promised me
Well, I got my ticket for the ride in the sky
I was taught to believe never to doubt
The man up above knows what He's talkin about
So when I heard that voice so loud and clear
Speak to my heart I knew that she must be near
The Maker said, "Take her and love her forever
Take care of her for life
And treat her right"
I never was the one to listen very well
I walk my own way and felt what I felt
The further out of touch with the master plan
Well she was like a flight to the promised land
The Maker said "Take her and love her forever
Take care of her for life
Never forsake her don't be a heart breaker"
The Maker said "Take her and treat her right
Just treat her right"
He placed an Angel in the palm of my hand
And for once in my life I obeyed His commands
I'll take her and love her forever
Take care of her for life
Never forsake her don't be a heart breaker
The Maker said "Take her and treat her right
Just treat her right, just treat her right"
The Maker said "Take her and love her forever
Take care of her for life
Never forsake her don't be a heart breaker"
The Maker said "Take her and treat her right
