The Port of Decatur is a transshipment port on the Tennessee River, in the city of Decatur, Alabama, United States of America. The port was founded in 1971.
Port facilities include intermodal transfer points for switches between barge, road and rail, storage facilities for bulk liquids, dry bulk and general cargo and 12 acres (49,000 m2) of open storage. Serviceable quay length is 2,000 feet (610 m), with a year-round draft of nine metres.
The port is directly connected to the Norfolk Southern and CSX railroads and to interstate and regional highway networks.
Port throughput is dominated by imports of industrial and agricultural commodities including sand, asphalt, grains and fertilizers, coal, and steel piping. From 2005 the port also began handling poultry feed products for nationwide poultry firm Golden Kist.
Exports are limited by the cost-efficiency of road and rail distribution networks, forcing many barges accessing the port to return empty. Shipping times to New Orleans are approximately two weeks from loading.
Mary Ethel, a twin screw push boat with 800 horsepower, was built in 1971 in Greenville, Mississippi. It is powered by 2 GM 12V-71 diesel engines making 800 hp. She is moving barges of grain for Bunge.

Named after Stephen Decatur, this street near the Mississippi River in the French Quarter was formerly known as "Levee Street" or "Rue de la Levée." The most famous sights on Decatur Street are Jackson Square and nearby Café du Monde. For about a century, upper Decatur Street (the portion closer to Canal Street) had many businesses catering to sailors visiting the port of New Orleans. In the late 20th century, it was redeveloped and became more upscale with commercial business such as the House of Blues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decatur_Street_(New_Orleans)

Yeah, yeah I know.. yet ANOTHER Tier 4 power move. Strangely enough, we were due for just about everything thoroughbred wise except a heritage unit. There was an SD70ACu leading 23N, which I promptly missed (Refer back to when I caught the WP heritage at 4am to see why), a Standard cab D9 leading 201, and the possibility of 17 tier 4's, which were sitting in Sheffield. It was a good day, except for 362 being delayed to Hell and back. 362 left Sheffield with his luck running low, for 11 extra cars were tacked onto the rear of his train. 201 was held up at Irvington waiting to see if 362 would even fit in the siding at Wheeler, which he eventually did. Afterwards, he moved onto Decatur, where he finally dropped off those extra cars. Just as he was crossing the bridge, low and behold there w...
