San Francisco (/ˌsæn frənˈsɪskoʊ/), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the financial, cultural, and transportation center of the San Francisco Bay Area, a region of 7.6 million people which includes San Jose and Oakland. The only consolidated city-county in California, it encompasses a land area of about 46.9 square miles (121 km2) on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, giving it a density of about 17,179 people per square mile (6,632 people per km2). It is the most densely settled large city (population greater than 200,000) in the state of California and the second-most densely populated large city in the United States after New York City. San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in California and the 13th most populous city in the United States, with a population of 805,235 as of the 2010 Census. The San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont metropolitan area has a population of 4,335,391.
In 1776, colonists from Spain established a fort at the Golden Gate and a mission named for Francis of Assisi a few miles away. The California Gold Rush of 1849 propelled the city into a period of rapid growth, increasing the population in one year from 1,000 to 25,000, and thus transforming it into the largest city on the West Coast at the time. After three-quarters of the city was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire, San Francisco was quickly rebuilt, hosting the Panama-Pacific International Exposition nine years later. During World War II, San Francisco was the port of embarkation for service members shipping out to the Pacific Theater. After the war, the confluence of returning servicemen, massive immigration, liberalizing attitudes, and other factors led to the Summer of Love and the gay rights movement, cementing San Francisco as a center of liberal activism in the United States.
Heading out of old San Francisco
Passing by the Golden Gate bridge
Left my woman and child there stranded
Still don't know why I did
It was late in the evening
And something just felt right
You can run around this old town
Keeping it together even if don't feel right
Everytime I go out on the evening
I seem to be losing my head
Heading out of old San Francisco
It's something I just kinda did
Everytime I go gambling my life away
Thing just turn out to be peaches-and-cream
There'll be good times and bad time around here
Heading out of old San Francisco
Heading down Mexico way
Got my jacknknife, my handbag and six string
And I'll soon be on my way
It was late in the evening
And something just felt right
You can run around this old town
Keeping it together even if don't feel right
Everytime I go out on the evening
I seem to be losing my head
Heading out of old San Francisco
It's something I just kinda did
Everytime I go gambling my life away
Thing just turn out to be peaches-and-cream
There'll be good times and bad time around here
Breakfast at the movies
Gatorade and blackjack on the bed
God bless the ugly
Cheap champagne and blackjack on the bed
I was born in America, born with the fists of a saint
Way out of range
Breakfast in the hallway
Pistachios and cocktails on the roof
God bless the hard way
You're the only easy substitute
I was born in America, born with the fists of a cowboy
Home on the range
[Verse 1]
Welcome to the dark-side of my bizarre mind
I'm trapped inside of this amusement park ride
There's an atom bomb inside of my hard drive
I'm holding the apocalypse
Let's take a ride and get lost in this metropolis
Just realized that I'm an idiot
Wearing my disguise, my real face is fucking hideous
My pretty bitch watching Insidious with her pussy out
Awwwwwwwww, Sookie Sookie now
Rapper terrorist, rarer than good parents is
Putting hard drugs inside of all your baby carriages
Arrogance, throwing cherry bombs where the sheriff lives
Just because that shit's hilarious
And I inherited it - the thirst for self-destruction and I'm scared of it
I wanna be buried with a novel and a chariot
I'm a bigger illusion than good marriages, or what it means to be American
Woah
[Hook]
I took acid in San Francisco
Stripped butt naked, caused a panic at the disco
Fell for the bimbo that was dancing at the strip show
I gotta stop thinking with my dick-hole, yo
I took acid in San Francisco
Stripped butt naked, caused a panic at the disco
Fell for the bimbo that was dancing at the strip show
A genius still thinking with his dick bone
[Verse 2]
Out in Wichita, Kansas, smoking meth with all the locals
Asking them to teach me how to yodel
Suppose I'll die alone from an overdose of some sort
In a motel while some whore fucking running to the drug store
I hacked into the motherboard, argued on a public forum
Uploaded a virus to the network then unplugged the cord
The laws are not important
If you scared lock your door then
I always feel like a foreigner
Morphin' into some sort of sorcerer
I'm Yuri's brother if it's Lord of War
What would I be normal for?
I'm going door to door shooting porno's with a good script
[Hook]
I took acid in San Francisco
Stripped butt naked, caused a panic at the disco
Fell for the bimbo that was dancing at the strip show
I gotta stop thinking with my dick-hole, yo

Time to giddy-up doo wah diddy-up
San Francisco San Francisco
Her lover's arms were open wide
Where the gates of golden
Waits with charms unfoldin'
Hold that cable car up there with pride
I gotta ride (ride ride)
Giddy up down to
San Francisco San Francisco
Where love is true as time and tide
She was seventeen though
When I left from Reno
Like some Valentino
With my bride there by my side
I can't go from Cisco down to Frisco
How I'm missin' those days of yore (El Dorado)
Miss those frisky women raw rye whiskey with each kissin' we would
explore
El Dorado
For this desperado
Was gold in the dust
Like many a man in God do I trust
Gave up on El Dorado
So lost in my lust
Where love is not for sale
Out on the end of the
Trail
Time to giddy up doo wah diddy up
San Francisco San Francisco
Hope just like a candlestick in flame
Sportin' life did change her
Shore life rearranger
Brought her misfortune and shame
Roll on down the California flyway the highway I have known
I have known
Old mystery sunsets down on water
The soul of man unfold
Time to giddy up doo wah diddy up
San Francisco San Francisco
Hope there you'll find love is not for sale
Out at the end of
The trail
Gonna ride
Ride ride ride gonna ride
Gonna

Tomorrow I will go to San Francisco
I bought the flight by accident last night
Later I´ll be dancing down in Rio
And Australia is on the other side
[Bridge]
I´m sick of this security I have with every step I ever
make
It´s like hell
Even if your words would fly like butterflies
I would not be afraid
´cause there´s nothing left to say
[Chorus]
Your commentary is not necessary
I made up my mind today
And noone can say
That it´s too far away
Coz I made up my mind today
and I´m sure
Many years have passed, they stole my longing
A trip around the world has been my dream
Behind the wall of silent hope, still waiting
That a princess in a golden cage is freed
[Bridge, Chorus]
I will taste the air on every continent
and maybe find a place to stay
I´ll think about your words when I see butterflies
and drink the best champagne
to your health
[1.strophe, Chorus(2x)]
I, I know what you did
Like a boy of summer gives his first kiss
Love, is dancing on my finger
He got to the heart of the matter and lingered
Now I'm walking with the living
I always liked Steinbeck and those old men whistling
We're back, we're back in San Francisco
We're back and you tell me I'm home
Talking in the Mission
Over coffee this is my utopia
Man, I'll be your lady
As the ocean rises, the sun is fading
We're back, we're back in San Francisco
We're back, we're back in San Francisco
We're back, we're back in San Francisco
And now I feel the ever after
Over red wine on the eve of summer
The buzz, the buzz of the city
As we settle in it's majesty
I, I know what you did
Like a boy of summer gives his first kiss
We're back, we're back in San Francisco
We're back and you tell me I'm home
You tell me I am home
You tell me I am home
You tell me I am home
Back in San Francisco
And I know what you did in San Francisco
I know what you did in San Francisco
I never will forget, Jeanette Macdonald
Just to think of her, it gives my heart a pang
I never will forget, how that brave Jeanette
Just stood there in the ruins and sang, and sang
San Francisco, open your golden gate
You'll let nobody wait outside your door
San Francisco, here is your wanderin' one
Sayin' I'll wander no more
Other places only make me love you best
Tell me you're the one in all the golden west
San Francisco, I'm coming home again
Never to roam again
San Francisco, right when I arrive
I really come alive
And you will laugh to see me
Perpendicular, hanging on a cable car
San Francisco, let me beat my feet
Up and down Market street
I'm gonna climb Nob hill, just to watch it get dark
From the top of the mark
There's Brooklyn bridge, London bridge
And the bridge of San Louis Rey
But the only bridge, that's a real gone bridge
Is the bridge across the bay to
San Francisco, I'm coming home again
Never to roam again, by God
San Francisco, I don't mean frisco
I, I know what you did
Like a boy of summer gives his first kiss
Love, is dancing on my finger
He got to the heart of the matter and lingered
Now I'm walking with the living
I always liked Steinbeck and those old men whistling

Folsom, Folsom street on the way to Polk and Castro
You don't find them finer
Freedom, freedom is in the air, yeah
Searching for what we all treasure: pleasure
Cycles, cycles in the night shining bright
Brightly on nights tell a glory story
Leather, leather, leather, leather baby
Levi's and T's are the best now all right
Dress the way you please and put your mind at ease
It's a city known for its freedom, freedom
Cycles shining bright break the silence of the night
Inhibitions, no, you don't need them, no, no, no
San Francisco... city by the bay yeah... hey hey hey...
You've got me... ahw ahw... take me to the water...
Disco, disco party baby
Music that sets you on fire, higher
Say what's on your mind and spend a little time
Every destiny there has a meaning, meaning
Party 'till the night before the morning light
You may feel your whole body screaming, ahw ahw...
Got me, got me, got me baby aaahhh
Say you got me, love ya love you so, well
Here's what I want you to do, take me, take me
Take me baby, show me the way
Take me... down to the bay
Lead me to the water... well well it's you and me yeah
Show me the way, why don't you show me the way hey
Come on baby, let's get down, down, hmm
Ain't nobody between you and me
Baby baby feel fast free
Baby baby let's do hot night
Come on baby let's you and me swing
Love the way I please, don't put no chains on me
If you got the time, you could do it, do it
What I need is love, that's all I'm thinking of
Take me to the bay, lead me to it, now, now
I fell face down on the floor
This strange city won't feel sorry for
All my fairy tales and dreams
This old kingdom isn't what it seems
All we are are wishing wells
This heart-shaped box belongs to me
It feels like December
In the warmest of weathers
I can't get back to where I wanna be
Cause I still remember
Your chariots and sweaters
San Francisco, please rain down on me
Please be careful with me
I'm made of paper
I tear easily
A man once said that nothing's free
I'll pay with my tears till you come back to me
All we are are wishing wells
This heart-shaped box belongs to me
It feels like December
In the warmest of weathers
I can't get back to where I wanna be
Cause I still remember
Your chariots and sweaters
San Francisco, please rain down on me
Everyone is cold and far
Frail and shaking in the dark
It's all over now
It's all over now
It feels like December
In the warmest of weather
I can't get back
I can't get back
I can't get back
It feels like December
In the warmest of weathers
I can't get back to where I wanna be
Cause I still remember
Your chariots and sweaters
San Francisco, please rain down on me
Rain down on me
Rain down on me
Rain down on me
Vaatteeni, joille irvaillen ihmiset nauraa
Ja höyhenpuuhka, jota nyt niin halveksitaan
Tarvitsee siellä vielä lisää kimaltavaa
Tai muuten hukun massaan monenkirjavaan
Eivätkä ruuhkaan juutu perheautot vain
Vaan linja-autot, limusiinit rinnakkain
Joskus voin mennä vuorille vain katsomaan
Alhaalla illoin hehkuvaa maisemaa
En niele tuskaa, vaan shamppanjaa virtanaan
Verhoudun paljetteihin päästä varpaisiin
Minä tunnen kaikki
Ja tietenkin minut tunnetaan
Valokeila aina osuu tähden askeliin
Ei pilkkaa suut
Ei nouse sormi yksikään
En enää pelkää
Etten ketään löydäkään
Ja linnun lailla kerran nousen korkeimpaan
Ruumiini vanki koskaan en ollutkaan

But I won't be here
when you come home
I'm gonna to move to San Francisco
Look up some old friends
I'm gonna get me a navy pea coat
And an old Mercedes Benz
This old town it keeps shrinking
There's too many people in my junk
I'm gonna do a lot of drinking
Cause it don't hurt when I'm drunk
CHORUS
I'm gonna rent me an old Victorian
Down in the Lower Height
I'm gonna get me an old accordion
Play for the viewers on the golden gate
I'm gonna plant a garden
Paint my bathroom blue
I'm gonna try real hard
To get over you
Here in the city life doesn't move so slow
There's plenty of good people I know
Up in north beach they drink spicy Italian liqueur
Down on market there's a lot of hobos and the hustlers
Down in Hayes Valley, there's a lot of real good restaurants
Deep in the tenderloin you can get anything you want
Over in the mission it's always a sunny day
It's a real good baseball town but my team is across the bay
Up in the San Francisco where the forest meets the bridge
I thought I saw you standing there and them you fell onto the rails
But that was many years ago and I am so much older now
My brother is a soldier now
I can't see the many how, I moved up in the wind
And you swimming up tide or just to the hand radio stations
I left my love in San Francisco
That's okay, I was bored anyway
I left my love in the room
That's okay, I was born in L.A.
I left my love in San Francisco
That's okay, I was bored anyway
I left my love in a field
That's okay, I was born in L.A.
And we're restricting on this field
That Jesus came from Israel
Isaac followed the sacred cow
So not to wake up, sparrow splashing mud
But that was many years from now
And I hope from here on now
I always seemed to want to shout
Your eyes are like a cup of tea and sending into the sun with me
You swimming upstream or just tuning into new sensations
I was broken and we're broken
I left my love in San Francisco
That's okay, I was bored anyway
I left my love in the room
That's okay, I was born in L.A.
I left my love in San Francisco
That's okay, I was bored anyway
I left my love in a field
Leaving again...and she don't know why.Packs up her
things, when her road gets just a little too straight
Strips her room and she says goodbye
To the ones that stick around and sit and laugh and cry
and talk about the life that knows her
Never a fool but she feels like one
And she holds...my hand.
(Chorus)
She's runnning to San Francisco
Leaving the walls behind.
Arms wrapped around her shoulders,
Tumbling through tired.
She's running to the city
Getting out of this old place
Looking though the rusted window,
Fall into space.
The only people she'll know are the ones she'll meet
tomorrow
The closest friends are sitting stranded at the little
run-in diner
Where she used to work.
But they wonder if their tears are really about her or
if they're thinking about themselves
And they catch her thoughts on right up high
And the minutes...roll by.
(Chorus)
Running to...a tall glass cut building
Running to...a bed nice and warm
Running to...a black picket fence now
Running to...A life ripped and torn
Running to...A cramped old apartment
Running to a life not like it seems...
A couple months have passed and she was sitting on the
front step
A local man came by and told her bout some problems
that he's got
He's lost his job and his rent ran dry
She said, hey man just get up and change some things
about the way that you are
And he sits on right down next to her
Be fine in line stand straight in time
When in doubt watch me then mime
What you see carbon copy now believe what I believe
Exactly what do I see? Hypocrisy and I'm slippin' free
Your movin' to San Francisco
I see you're leavin' today
There ain't a place you can leave and then go
Assume your trouble will stay
All these are things that you've shown to me
Now it's not what you want to be
When you say it's such a clear day
Though it be a clear day
You turn around and the people will say
Must be a cloudy day
See excuse dished out from the telly
Have a hard time to swallow really
Now I feel like my hearts on fire
Spread like waves from a radio wire
Shoot like sparks of electrical tower
Look like lightning and thundershower
Is it enough for the world to see
There's something and someone to believe
I'll take you back to 1969
Let's hit the city of freedom like old times
It's getting dirty underneath the blue sky
Imagine you and me counting the butterflies
One, two, three!
Let's bring it on
Keep on dancing in the streets of love
French kissing on JFK drive
'Til we crash at the beach
Where we watch the sun rise
Tell me what you're waiting for
We're crossing the Golden Gate
Party at the Frisco Bay
Wake me up in San Francisco
Where you got flowers in your hair girl
Party everywhere girl
Wake me up in San Francisco
Where the love is in the air
All the people stop and stare
Baby, take me back to the city of love
(Right) to the place that I've been dreaming of
(San Francisco)
Wake me up in San Francisco
Everybody go Oh Oh
It's 10pm getting ready for the night
Wanna be a hippie when the city's getting high
Cruising down Broadway you on my side
Pulling over my pink rover at the hungry eye
One, two, three!
Let's bring it on
DJ, play my favourite beats all night long
Popping some bottles; champagne, red wine
And we both giddy up on the rooftop
And watch the city lights
Tell me what you're waiting for
We're crossing the Golden Gate
Party at the Frisco Bay
Wake me up in San Francisco
Where you got flowers in your hair girl
Party everywhere girl
Wake me up in San Francisco
Where the love is in the air
All the people stop and stare
Baby, take me back to the city of love
(Right) to the place that I've been dreaming of
(San Francisco)
Wake me up in San Francisco
Everybody go Oh Oh
We're playing songs of life like it's '69
We sing and dance under the neon lights
Stars shine so bright in the city tonight
We're crossing the Golden gate
Party at the Frisco bay
Wake me up in San Francisco
Where you got flowers in your hair girl
Party everywhere girl
Wake me up in San Francisco
Where the love is in the air
All the people stop and stare
Baby, take me back to the city of love
(Right) to the place that I've been dreaming of
(San Francisco)
Wake me up in San Francisco
Everybody go Oh Oh
Come on take me back to the city of love
To the place the place
That I've that I've been dreaming of
So wake me up in San Francisco
the mist fills,
quiet room.
san francisco
what the hell was all
that talkin' round,
where is it now, sunny california?
i wake with you, i feel your coat, sleep late afternoons
and i hitched along, but i turned wrong,
how you moved me along, with your shepard songs,
everytime you opened up to sing...
the still sun, never moves, across the sky...
funny thing, time.
she made you mine...
and she'll rob you blind.
lay down in your new town
walk the ground.
glass and houses fill the fields.
now the moon sees everything
in this sanitarium
can i get through, like the moon gets through,
across the sea
treacherous.
and now you've gone, after all we've known,
and after all that i've been told...
california's cold
lay down in your new town
walk the ground
how you made me weep on sansom st.
If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

When I look back, along the track,
That left me here, where I’m standing,
There is a place, where love begins,
A certain town I left my heart in.
San Francisco love is all around,
San Francisco you’ve never let it down,
I have seen you open every door,
San Francisco love is what we’re here for.
I’m eight miles high, and feeling free,
And in my eyes, the sun is shining,
The Golden Gate and Haight Asbury,
I’m always California dreaming.
San Francisco love is all around,
San Francisco you’ve never let it down,
I have seen you open every door,
San Francisco love is what we’re here for.
I’m always California dreaming
San Francisco love is all around,
San Francisco you’ve never let it down,
I have seen you open every door,
Be fine in line stand straight in time
When in doubt watch me then mime
What you see carbon copy now believe what I believe
Exactly what do I see? Hypocrisy and I'm slippin' free
Your movin' to San Francisco
I see you're leavin' today
There ain't a place you can leave and then go
Assume your trouble will stay
All these are things that you've shown to me
Now it's not what you want to be
When you say it's such a clear day
Though it be a clear day
You turn around and the people will say
Must be a cloudy day
See excuse dished out from the telly
Have a hard time to swallow really
Now I feel like my hearts on fire
Spread like waves from a radio wire
Shoot like sparks of electrical tower
Look like lightning and thundershower
Is it enough for the world to see
Spent the last days of her life in San Francisco
A year inside of a room without a window
And just hearing my voice was the highlight of her day
And every time we spoke she made me feel the same way
San Francisco(San Francisco)
I wish I could have made it to San Francisco
I never got the chance and she had to let go
And just hearing her voice was the highlight of my day
And even though she's gone I still feel the same way
San Francisco(San Francisco)
San Francisco(San Francisco)
San Francisco(San Francisco)
San Francisco(San Francisco)
San Francisco(San Francisco)

I've been in love with love and the idea of
something binding us together,
you know that love is strong enough,
And I've seen time tell tales of that
systematic drug, yeah that
heart that beats as one,
it's collectively, unconciously composed,
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Well I lost my head in San Francisco,
waiting for the fog to roll out,
but I found it in a raincloud,
it was smilin' down
Do you feel the love?
I feel the love
C'mon, c'mon let's start it up,
Let it pour out of your soul
I've been in love with love and the idea of,
something binding us together,
you know that love is strong enough,
And I've seen time tell tales about that,
systematic drug, yeah that heart that beats as one,
it's collectively, unconciously composed
Do you feel the love?

C'mon, c'mon let's start it up,

Do you feel the love?

Hello Amsterdam my name is Fernando
Hello Amsterdam I bet you've seen my kind before
Another sad tourist with his eyes rolling in his head
Another sad tourist who never had a drink before
Hello Amsterdam you didn't like my Waterloo
Hello Amsterdam I wish I had something to offer you
Tail between my leg I crawl back to the canal
All alone with my eyes rolling like the moon
Superstar
There once was a white elephant
that escaped from the zoo
Got to the big city and didn't know what to do
Had a sticker on his shirt that said,
'Hello my name is unclean'
I swear they would have liked us
if we'd played Dancing Queen
Hello Amsterdam don't I look cool in my white shirt
Hello Amsterdam don't I look hip in my red tie
We came from America so you could share in the pride
Guilt, greed, and genocide

If you come to San Francisco,
choking on the thought of leaving. drinking to keep from sobbing. 4 p.m., 4 dollar pints, SFO, the time and price. with all my happiness aborted, the PA painfully starts boarding. i sink deep, 30 thousand feet into my window seat electric chair. and i was drinking you goodbye. a heart floats in the bay. from sour home chicago. i hear it beating far away. and there's no telling what i'll do if i don't return to you. hopeful thoughts of soon returning, can't put out my stomach burning. plastic wings and plastic smiles. unsalted peanuts stretch my miles. choking on the thought of leaving. drinking to keep from heaving. 5 p.m., 5 dollar pints, Hellbound Airlines, time and price. and i was drinking you goodbye. a heart floats in the bay. from sour home chicago. i hear it beating far away. and there's no telling what i'll do if i don't return to you. and i was drinking you goodbye. a heart floats in the bay. from sour home chicago. i hear it beating far away. and there's no telling what i'll do if i don't return to you.

I never will forget, Mmmm...Jeanette MacDonald
Just to think of her, it gives my heart a pang
I never will forget, how that brave Jeanette
Just stood there in the ruins and sang, and sang...
San Francisco, open your golden gate
You'll let nobody wait outside your door
San Francisco, here is your wanderin' one
Saying I'll wander no more.
Other places only make me love you best
Tell me you're the one in all the golden west
San Francisco, I'm coming home again
Never to roam again...
San Francisco, right when I arrive
I really come alive...
And you will laugh to see me,
Perpendicular, hanging on a cable car
San Francisco, let me beat my feet
Up and down Market Street
I'm gonna climb Nob Hill, just to watch it get dark
From the top of the mark
There's Brooklyn Bridge, London Bridge,
And the Bridge of San Louis Rey
But the only bridge, that's a real gone bridge,
Is the bridge accross the bay
San Francisco, I'm coming home again,
Never to roam again, by gum
San Francisco, I don't mean Frisco
San Francisco, here I come!
