The term "mythology" can refer either to the study of myths (e.g., comparative mythology), or to a body or collection of myths (a mythos, e.g., Inca mythology). In folkloristics, a myth is a sacred narrative usually explaining how the world or humankind came to be in its present form, although, in a very broad sense, the word can refer to any traditional story. Myths typically involve supernatural characters and are endorsed by rulers or priests. They may arise as overelaborated accounts of historical events, as allegory for or personification of natural phenomena, or as an explanation of ritual. They are transmitted to convey religious or idealized experience, to establish behavioral models, and to teach.
Early rival classifications of Greek mythos by Euhemerus, Plato's Phaedrus, and Sallustius were developed by the neoplatonists and revived by Renaissance mythographers as in the Theologia mythologica (1532). Nineteenth-century comparative mythology reinterpreted myth as evolution toward science (E. B. Tylor), "disease of language" (Max Müller), or misinterpretation of magical ritual (James Frazer). Later interpretations rejected opposition between myth and science, such as Jungian archetypes, Joseph Campbell's "metaphor of spiritual potentiality", or Lévi-Strauss's fixed mental architecture. Tension between Campbell's comparative search for monomyth or Ur-myth and anthropological mythologists' skepticism of universal origin has marked the 20th century. Further, modern mythopoeia such as fantasy novels, manga, and urban legend, with many competing artificial mythoi acknowledged as fiction, supports the idea of myth as ongoing social practice.

Joseph John Campbell (March 26, 1904 – October 30, 1987) was an American mythologist, writer and lecturer, best known for his work in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His work is vast, covering many aspects of the human experience. His philosophy is often summarized by his phrase: "Follow your bliss."
Joseph Campbell was born and raised in White Plains, New York in an upper middle class Irish Catholic family. As a child Campbell became fascinated with Native American culture after his father took him to see the American Museum of Natural History in New York where he saw on display featured collections of Native American artifacts. He soon became versed in numerous aspects of Native American society, primarily in Native American mythology. This led to Campbell's lifelong passion for myth and to his study and mapping of the cohesive threads in mythology that appeared to exist among even disparate human cultures.
In 1921 he graduated from the Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut.

Kermit: If what I'm saying doesn't make any sense, well then... go ahead and kill me.::Doc Hopper: [takes off his hat and fluffs his hair; reluctantly] All right boys. Kill him.
Kermit: [singing; repeated lines] Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers, and me.
Kermit: [singing] Life's like a movie, write your own ending...::All Muppets: [singing] Keep believing, keep pretending; we've done just what we've set out to do, thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you!
Kermit: That's pretty dangerous building a road in the middle of the street. I mean, if frogs couldn't hop, I'd be gone with the Schwinn.
Fozzie: I'm a professional. I've had three performances.
Fozzie: Oh, I'm so nervous. If I'm not funny, I won't be able to live with myself.::Dr. Bunsen Honeydew: Well, then you'll have to get another apartment, won't you?
Fozzie: Ahh, a bear in his natural habitat - a Studebaker.
Dr. Teeth: [after the Electric Mayhem paint the Studebaker] Doc Hopper will never recognize you now.::Fozzie: I don't know how to thank you guys.::Kermit: I don't know *why* to thank you guys.
Fozzie: Hey, why don't you join us?::Gonzo: Where are you going?::Fozzie: We're following our dream!::Gonzo: Really? I have a dream, too!::Fozzie: Oh?::Gonzo: But you'll think it's stupid.::Fozzie: No we won't, tell us, tell us!::Gonzo: Well, I want to go to Bombay, India and become a movie star.::Fozzie: You don't go to Bombay to become a movie star! You go where we're going: Hollywood.::Gonzo: Sure, if you want to do it the *easy* way.::Fozzie: [to Kermit] We've picked up a weirdo...
Rowlf the Dog: It's not often you see a guy that green have the blues that bad.
it's a weird game
I'm lonely without skin.
no end to begin
and only your mind to hide in.
I nudge life.
like an unborn child.
a dream inside but now I live behind your eyes.
I'm uninvited.
and I'm the only memory that comes through.
I'm living in your dreams.
I'm where you cannot be.
I'm way out of your reach.
I'm living in your dreams.
I'm where you cannot see.
Is it you or is it me?
I can't protect what you can't forget.
but no I live behind your eyes.
You recognize me as only a memory that comes through.
I'm living in your dreams.
I'm where you cannot go.
Beyond everything you know.
I'm living in your dreams.
You won't find me anywhere.

myth
Life is good as long as I can keep my eyes closed till
I die in vain.
Life is good from dust to dust - it's been a road of
broken trust and pain.
Take my pain away.
I never really wanted more than honored words - you
think this life is a game
My time had come and now it's gone - I missed my last
day in the sun.
My face has changed - the dogs have won
I never thought I'd ever say I struggled all my life
away.
Nobody is ever gonna take this pain away.
It's always the same - some taker of years that live
off my breaking back
Empty soul collectors - predators of any shine that ya
lack
Ya feedin' on my deed with greed not for green just for
your trophy rack
They all come to me - my skin sweet to the ticks
swarmin' on me
They all take their little bite and in the end it's
like a stab in the back
I'm all out of blood, I gave them too much - but it's
still not enough
They come one by one, mask of a friend - over and over
again and again
Never ends - guess this was my destiny, to keep trying
to climb for eternity
An endless hill while they pull at me, and slide me
back down and not let me sleep
And live off my blood - with a mechinal numb dig my
fingers in mud and pull my way up
Guess this was my destiny, to keep trying to climb for
eternity.
That's my mytholgy.
Says he wants you
He says he needs you
It's real talking when I make him wait for you
If he really wants you
If he really needs you
Really got to have you
Take your time and feel him out
When it's a good boy
I mean a really really good boy
Why not let him lay with you
That's when you give it to him good
[Chorus:]
Dip it low
Pick it up slow
Roll it all around
Poke it out, make ya back roll
Pop pop pop that thing
Ima show you how to make your man say 'Ooo'
Dip it low
Pick it up slow
Roll it all around
Poke it out like your back broke
Pop pop pop that thing
Ima show you how to make your man say 'Ooo'
You getting bold
He growin' cold
It's just the symptoms of young love
Growin' old
You think it's time
And your thinking of leaving
But give it time
It's late at night
He's coming home
Meet him at the door with nothin' on
Take him by the hand
Let him know what's on
If you understand me
Yall come on
All my ladies wine it up
If you know just how to move (mooove)
All my fellas jump behind
And show her what you want to do (show her what you got daddy)

All my fellas jump behind
And show her what you want to do (ouuuh..wouh ouh)

He makes eagles an ocelots dance!
Come to see the Huexotzinca
On days of the eagle loudly cries the mexica: War!
Battlefield is the place!
Where one toasts the divine liquor in war,
Where are stained red the divine eagles
Where the tigers howl!
Where all kinds of precious stones rain
Where wave headdresses rich with fine plumes
Where princes are smashed to bits
"there is nothing like die in the war!"
Nothing like flowery death; so precious!
To Him who gives life; far of I see it!
My heart yearns for it!
And they called it Teotihuacan
Cause it was the place where Lords were buried
Thus they said:
"When we die, truly we die not,
We will live, we will rise...
We will continue living"
Thus the dead one was directed, when he died
Awake the sky is red blood
Thus the old one said
That who has died has become a god
Meaning "he has died"
"already dawn has come
Already sing the colored guans
Fire colored swallows
Butterflies fly"
Even jade is shattered
Even gold is crushed
Quetzal plume are torn
One does can live?
Drifting in and out
You see the road you're on
It came rolling down the cheek
You say just what you mean
And in between
It's never as it seems
Help me to name it
Help me to name it
If you built yourself a myth
You'd know just what to give
What comes after this
Momentary bliss
The consequence
Of what you do to me
Help me to name it
Help me to name it
Found yourself in a new direction
Arrows falling from the sun
Canyons calling
Would they come to greet you
Let you know you're not the only one
Can't keep hanging on
To what is dead and gone
If you built yourself a myth
You'd know just what to give
Materialize
Or let the ashes fly
Help me to name it
For lifetimes pantomime
transformad into a parade of mountains
delivered from the golden doctrines
allowed the bleed...
... Bleed to MYTH.
You built it up brick by brick
Put your heart into this baseless myth
Nurtured it like a child
And dressed its wounds when it ran wild
You stopped to fix your face
Someone else stepped in and took your place
Now everything you once knew
Is running circles around you
A car door slamming in your road
It jolts you like a kick inside
A year old message on your phone
That catches you when you can’t hide
I see you in the service station sign
I see you in the supermarket line
I see you silhouetted on a wall
But I don’t see myself there at all
This vessel of Balsa wood
Is the fag end tail of amoeba-hood
The busying cast confer
And get their taste of the drama
You stare through mindless daytime shows
And curse yourself for growing old
The sterile scent of shaving foam
Reminds you of another world
I see you in the roofless sombre sky
I see you when the lovers stop outside
I see you silhouetted on a wall
But I don’t see myself there at all
I see you in the sweetness of our child
I see you in the supermarket aisle
I see you when I’m kneeling on the floor
But I can’t see myself anymore
Hard times got the upper hand
Stole our feeble plans
The faces, shot me, spin me round
But I won’t lie down
Hard times shake me to the bone
Face bruised, bloody nose
Shell shocked, crawling on the ground
Still I won’t lie down
No I won’t lie down
No I won’t lie down

The melting sky proves this nonexistance.
Your fairy tale lies.
But you're to blind to realize that your god's a lie.
Your god is a myth, and I refuse to bow down to these lies.
Fairy tales, blind to the truth.
You let a book of fiction lead your way.
The melting sky proves this nonexistance.
Your fairy tale lies.
But you're to blind to realize, there's no use in prayer.
When there is no savior.
And I refuse to believe...or give in to these lies.
And if your god does exist, let him strike me down.
I'm still standing.
