Austronesian peoples predominate in this region. The major religions are Islam and Buddhism, followed by Christianity. However, a wide variety of religions are found throughout the region, including many Hindu and animist-influenced practices.
Definitions of "Southeast Asia" vary, but most definitions include the area represented by the countries and territories listed below. All of the countries excluding East Timor are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The area, together with part of South Asia, was widely known as the East Indies or simply the Indies until the 20th century. Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands are considered part of Southeast Asia though they are governed by Australia. Sovereignty issues exist over some islands in the South China Sea. Papua New Guinea has stated that it might join ASEAN, and is currently an observer.

Travel video about destination South East Asia.
South East Asia is a fascinating, atmospheric and exotic world full of unspoiled nature and cultural treasures and a region in which both past and present live side by side and unite in a wonderful way. Myanmar, The Land Of Golden Pagodas: for decades the rulers of what was once known as Burma closed the country’s doors to the outside world and many of its fine religious sanctuaries were badly neglected but they have now gradually been given the respect that they deserve. Inlay Lake is home to the Inthas, one of the many tribes that came to Myanmar from various of South East Asia’s neighbouring countries. Throughout the area are the floating plantations of the Inthas on which tomatoes, cucumbers and beans are cultivated. A journey on the Shan State Express provides passengers with a fascinating insight into the life of the Shan people whose lives are dominated by agriculture. The north west of Myanmar is known for its many splendid sacred buildings such as Mingun’s Hsinbyume Pagoda that was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was constructed according to the architectural rules of Hindu Buddhist cosmology and symbolizes the World Mountain of Meru.. One of Taiwan’s most important centres of arts and crafts is located in the west of the island, Lukang, an ancient and idyllic town full of age-old traditions whose large number of beautiful temples is most impressive. In Cambodia and around forty kilometres north of Phnom Penh is the former capital city of Udong. Today only the remains of the city’s former splendid buildings indicate that it was the last centre of Angkor’s power with hundreds of dwellings and temples. The ruins of Ayutthaya indicate the impressive dimensions of the former capital of ancient Thailand and one of the mightiest royal cities in South East Asia.

Cooking Classes Southeast Asia
We have now arrived at the Thai Farm Cooking School.
We had a choice between doing the cooking course in the city or going out to the countryside and I think we've made the right decision.
I'm making a yellow curry today. This is mine. This is what I created and Sam went for the green curry, so this is his.
We're making the Tom Yum soup. Mine is going to have shrimp and I've got my coconut milk here, so I'm going to be adding some ingredients - mushrooms, onions.
I'm going to be making a Pad Thai and then a Mango Sticky Rice.
So overall that was a really cool experience learning how to cook Thai food. I made five different dishes. I'm beyond full. Like I feel like I'm ready to hibernate now.
So this was 1100 Baht. It was like lunch and dinner and the thing I really liked about this particular school was that it was out in the countryside where we were able to get outside of the city and away from the pollution and whatnot and just have a really cool organic cooking experience.
This morning we've got a special activity planned. We are taking a cooking class - a Khmer cooking class. I'm all thumbs in the kitchen but I'm going to give it my best shot.
Right now we're at the local market and we are going to pickup some ingredients for the cooking class and it is raining.
I'm trying to slice lemongrass.
We're really earning our meal here. We're making our curry paste. We've been pounding away for almost ten minutes now.
Here is the meal we prepared today. We have spring rolls with a nice dipping sauce, lok lak (a kind of beef meat) and over here Amok, which is fish in a coconut cream sauce.
We just finished our cooking class. I didn't cause an International Incident. I didn't burn down the kitchen, so overall it was a success. If anyone wants to come the Kitchen is called Nary's Kitchen and they have a morning and an evening class. It costs ten dollars a person.
This restaurant and cooking school is run by Nary and her husband Toot. They will take you to the market and you will spend an hour there just looking at different vegetables, picking up ingredients and then afterwards you come back to the school you cook for two hours and then you get to enjoy your meal. We highly recommend it. Excellent food.
Here we are visiting a market again and that can only mean one thing - we are taking a cooking course yet again. Today we are going to be learning how to make Lao food and our first stop is Phou Si market. It is the biggest market in Luang Prabang and apparently it opens up at four in the morning.
For our cooking class today it's an awesome surprise - we've got this lush garden setting. It feels like we're just walking into someones backyard.
We don't put much sugar in Lao cooking like Thai food. You taste Thai food and it tastes milky and creamy and sweet because they add lots of coconut milk and lots of sugar. That is why the food tastes like that. Lao food is very different tasting like lots of herbs and lots of texture.
We're making the Mok Pa fish and you are going to show us how to wrap it.
Here we have our buffalo salad. We stir-fried some buffalo meat and we also added bean sprouts, banana flowers, string beans, hot chilies and mint leaves.
Today we are having lunch at the Green Moss in Hoi An, Vietnam.
Here are the first few dishes we've prepared. We have the Pho and the fresh spring rolls. Let's go eat it. Take them to the table and devour them.
Next up we will be making a vegetable Cao Lau. So the Cao Lau noodles are made from the water used an ancient well and apparently it is quite secret. Not only in Hoi An. Unique noodles to Hoi An. It is harder. It's a crispy noodle.
Now we're making our very last dish the vegetable pancake and it happens to be my favorite one.
How is the Cao Lau? I love it. What really stands out with the Cao lau is the taste of the noodles. They are just really unique to this area and I love them.
So the texture of the noodles are a little bit crispy and it almost tastes a little bit like they are under-cooked but that is what makes them quite unique.
We just finished our cooking class at Green Moss and it was a little bit different from previous cooking classes we've taken. This one was a little bit less hands on and more watch and learn, which is great because we got to watch a professional make it and the dishes turned out great. Everything was tasty.

There are fewer regions in the world more traveled today by backpackers than Southeast Asia. However, deciding where to go and what to do over such an expansive territory can be a daunting task. Hence, this guide. The following 10 things to do in SE Asia is an attractions travel guide that highlights the best of the best in the region:
1) Visit Temples
No trip to SE Asia - and Cambodia for that matter - should be taken without firmly penciling in a visit to Angkor Wat. Built to honor Hindu God Vishnu, Angkor Wat is the largest religious complex in the world.
2) Island Hop
Few islands in SE Asia can offer as much as Bali, Indonesia. Paradise for beach dwellers? Check. Into surfing? Check. Culture vulture? Ubud will surely tickle your fancy. Backpacker? Kuta beach is calling. Feel like climbing an active volcano? Mount Batur is calling your name. Love monkeys? Try to avoid getting bitten at Ubud Monkey Forest.
3) Volunteer
If you're seeking a place to volunteer that supports a great cause, look no further than Elephant Nature Park. Nestled nearby Chiang Mai, this elephant sanctuary and rescue center protects elephants from abuse in stark contrast with the Thai government which turns a blind eye.
4) Linger for a while in Cultural Hubs
Luang Prabang is a cultural hub in northern Laos that is a little slice of paradise. A charming city oozing with character it is different from other cities in Southeast Asia in the sense that is not overcrowded. Whether you go shopping, explore the rural countryside or enjoy riverside dining you'll surely remember your time here fondly. I highly recommend taking a cooking class.
5) Marvel at modern architecture
When you first lay your eyes upon the Petronas Towers it is like being in front of a futuristic space towers. These amazing towers are the main landmark of Kuala Lumpur and are easily the most impressive towers in SE Asia.
6) Indulge in Street Food
I can't think of a single nation in SE Asia where you can't devour amazing street food. In our travel video guide we showcase the Saturday Night Market in Chaing Mai where you can eat Thai and International street food delights without shelling out too much Baht.
7) Explore a Mega Alpha City
There are many mega cities in SE Asia worth exploring from Kuala Lumpur to Saigon and Bangkok to Hanoi; however, no city in Southeast really compares with Singapore. Clean. Impossibly sterile. Maybe to some; however it is a beacon of light in terms of development and prosperity with many impressive attractions and landmarks.
8) Get off the beaten track
When possible try to visit some smaller gems. Although the road from Chiang Mai to Pai is as serpentine as you'll ever experience, the rewards once arriving are plentiful. Stunning scenery and a slower pace of life await you. Swing on a hammock to your heart's content.
9) Boat Trip
Choosing either a two or three day Ha Long Bay boat cruise is one of the top things I recommend to do while traveling in Vietnam. Stunning Karsts, adventure sports (kayaking) and plenty of relaxing are what keep tourists coming in droves.
10) Go Hiking and visit Hill Tribes
Sapa, Vietnam is one of your best bets in SE Asia for adventure hiking. You can go on two or three day adventures where you'll be treated to breathtaking scenery, rice terraces, rural life and plenty of hospitality.
This is part of our Travel in Southeast Asia series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Asian culture, Asian arts, Asian foods, Asian religion and Asian people.

This travel video showcases the top 12 temples worth visiting in Southeast Asia including Buddhist temples, Taoist temples and Hindu temples just to name a few. Whether you're visiting Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma), Singapore or Brunei you'll see some magnificent temples. The following is a list of the best 12 temples we highly recommend you visit in SE Asia while traveling:
1) Angkor Wat Temple
Angkor Wat temple is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia and is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu built by a Cambodian King who helped unify the country and to also spread the Khmer influence across Southeast Asia.
2) Wat Arun Temple
Wat Arun temple is located in Bangkok, Thailand. This is the Temple of Dawn located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river.
3) Banteay Srei Temple
Banteay Srei is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This happens to be a Hindu temple and it is dedicated to the God Shiva. Most of the temples of Angkor were commissioned by powerful Kings but this temple in particular was not. It was commissioned by a Brahman, which makes it quite unique. There are many temples to choose from but this one in particular Banteay Srei is considered to be the crown jewel of Angkorian art because it has some of the most exquisite and intricate carvings.
4) Kek Lok Si Temple
Kek Lok Si is located in Air Itam (George Town) Penang, Malaysia.
Kek Lok Si temple, also known as the Temple of Supreme Bliss, is the biggest Buddhist temple in all of Southeast Asia. The temple complex combines Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese rituals.
For anyone who would like to come you can take the bus 201, 203 and 204 from the Komplex Komptar - basically the main mall from George Town and it is about a 40 minute ride to here.
5) Batu Caves Temple
The Batu Caves are located 13 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As an important Hindu shrine the Batu Caves takes its name from the Batu River and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. To get to the top you'll have to climb two hundred and seventy two steps. You'll notice lots of macaques or little monkeys.
6) Preah Khan Temple
Preah Khan is located in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia as part of the Temples of Angkor. The temple means 'sacred sword' and this temple is believed to have been a University that housed over a 1000 teachers. It has that kind of eerie feeling to it similar to Ta Prohm but without all of the crowds. You can be walking through and you feel like you're going through a maze. It is really quite fascinating. People who have come to this temple have picked up some rocks and stacked them into a little formation and I do believe this has a special meaning in Buddhism.
7) Golden Mount Temple
Golden Mount Temple is located in Bangkok, Thailand. You can find yourself having some of the best views of Bangkok from up here. It is normally not crowded; however, on a special Buddhist holiday it is packed with people - especially local Thais.
8) Doi Suthep Temple
Doi Suthep Temple is located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Located on top of a mountain it is best reached by taking a red songthaew where you can have the best view of Chiang Mai on a clear day.
9) Angkor Thom Temple (Bayon)
Bayon, also known as Angkor Thom Temple is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia an is part of the Temples of Angkor. The most fascinating thing about Bayon are the cold faces that have a hint of a smile. This massive complex has 54 towers with 216 faces on them. You can also visit the Terrace of the Elephants which is 350 meters long.
10) Cave Pagoda Temple
Cave Pagoda is located in Vietnam along the Mekong Delta nearby the Vietnamese - Cambodian border in the far south near Chao Doc. To reach the summit you need to climb 400 steps and chances are you'll be sweating profusely. This temple has beautiful views. It is just rice fields as far as you can see.
11) Ta Prohm Temple
Ta Prohm Temple is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia in the Angkor region. Ta Prohm is a Buddhist temple where the jungle just dominates the architecture. Indiana Jones would feel right at home here at this temple. In fact, it was used for the set of Tomb Raider staring Angelina Joli. It is decaying and it is crumbling but it is a great place to explore. This is an example of nature taking over the temple.

Indonesia says migrant crisis is regional problem
Indonesia said on May 19 that the migrant boat crisis was a problem for all of Southeast Asia ahead of key regional talks, as Jakarta and other countries came under more pressure to let the boatpeople land.
Nearly 3,000 Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants have made it to shore in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia in recent days after a Thai crackdown disrupted people-trafficking routes, prompting operators of rickety boats to dump their human cargo.
Those who have arrived were either abandoned on the coast or in shallow waters, or rescued from sinking boats, with the three nations sparking outrage by turning away vessels deemed still seawort

Over the past month, thousands of Rohingyas fleeing persecution in Myanmar, joined by Bangladeshis escaping poverty, have taken to often-rickety boats in the Andaman Sea in Southeast Asia. They face death by drowning, hunger or dehydration to try to reach land in Thailand, Malaysia or Indonesia. Officials in those countries, frustrated by the steady flow of migrants, are starting to turn back boats, unless they are in immediate danger of sinking. Steve Sandford reports for VOA.

The Philippines said May 19 it was ready to help Rohingya and Bangladeshi boatpeople, as its Southeast Asian neighbours faced outrage for turning them away.
The Philippines is obliged to help the migrants, many of whom are fleeing persecution, because it is party to the 1951 United Nations convention on refugees, foreign affairs department spokesman Charles Jose said.
"We have the commitment and the obligation to extend humanitarian assistance to these asylum seekers," Jose told ANC television.
Jose and other senior government officials would not elaborate on the kind of help the Philippines would give to the Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshis, whose plight has been described as a humanitarian catastrophe.
"We can't go into much detail yet. We are not yet into that point. What we are saying now is our broad policy statement regarding this issue," he said.
Nearly 3,000 migrants have swum to shore or been rescued off Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand over the past week, with thousands more believed to be drifting on boats without food or water.
The three governments have sparked international outrage for driving away some of the migrant boats, who are believed to have been deserted by human trafficking rings after a Thai crackdown.
Describing a precedent to the current situation, Jose pointed to the example of the Philippines accepting Vietnamese refugees at the end of the Vietnam War in the 1970s.
In that case, the Philippines accepted boatpeople who arrived directly on its shores but also others who had originally landed in other countries.
About 400,000 Vietnamese refugees went through Philippine camps and were eventually relocated to other countries, according to a government website.
President Benigno Aquino's spokesman also said the Philippines was open to helping the refugees, as he cited the values of mercy and compassion found in the nation's dominant Catholic religion.
"As the only predominantly Catholic nation in Southeast Asia, it is our duty to provide succour to those in need," presidential spokesman Herminio Coloma told AFP.
The Rohingya are a Muslim minority group in predominantly Buddhist Myanmar, where they have no legal rights, making them a target for human traffickers. Up to 1.3 million live in the western Rakhine state.
Malaysia and Thailand have called on Myanmar to stem the flow of the Rohingya but Myanmar has refused to take responsiblity, claiming the group is composed of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

Thousands more migrants are believed to be stranded at sea without food or water, and international pressure is growing for Southeast Asian nations to open their ports to the vessels, with the United Nations and the U.S. both calling for swift action.
Fears were growing for hundreds of Rohingya migrants on a boat which was bounced between waters off Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia and which has not been heard from in more than 60 hours.
Around 300 men, women and children were found pleading for help last week on the drifting trawler.
The region has faced criticism for its timid diplomacy, particularly its failure to curb what is seen as Buddhist-majority Myanmar’s systematic abuse of its unwanted Rohingya people, which has sent masses of the Muslim ethnic minority fleeing abroad.
Myanmar insists the Rohingya are illegal immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh, for whom it is not responsible.
In recent years an increasing number of Bangladeshis have also joined the Rohingya exodus across the Bay of Bengal, seeking to escape grinding poverty in their homeland.
Ahead of talks with her Malaysian and Thai counterparts in Kuala Lumpur on May 20, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi signaled May 19 that the crisis was the responsibility of the whole region.
Around half the new migrant arrivals have been in Indonesia’s western province of Aceh, and horrific tales have emerged of smugglers abusing migrants and deadly fights erupting on board overcrowded, abandoned vessels.
Those who have arrived were either abandoned on the coast or in shallow waters, or rescued from sinking boats, with the three nations sparking outrage by turning away vessels deemed still seaworthy.
Thousands more migrants are believed to be stranded at sea without food or water, and international pressure is growing for Southeast Asian nations to open their ports to the vessels, with the United Nations and the U.S. both calling for swift action.

My Reaction to Turner Broadcasting Asia System Not Bringing Back Adult swim to Southeast Asia!!
I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (http://www.youtube.com/editor)
That's What Happened that Turner Broadcasting Asian System Pulled out Adult swim from Cartoon Network in Philippines,Malaysia and Singapore for 6 years ago, I Wish They Should Bring Back Adult Swim to Philippines,Malaysia and Singapore But Tell Tita Joie to Bring Back Adult Swim to Southeast Asia So there will be Anime and TV Show.
Note: I Love Dragonball Forever is Awesome.

Thailand Feeds Migrants, Sends Them Back Out to Sea
Over the past month, thousands of Rohingyas fleeing persecution in Myanmar, joined by Bangladeshis escaping poverty, have taken to often-rickety boats in the Andaman Sea in Southeast Asia. They face death by drowning, hunger or dehydration to try to reach land in Thailand, Malaysia or Indonesia. Officials in those countries, frustrated by the steady flow of migrants, are starting to turn back boats, unless they are in immediate danger of sinking. Steve Sandford reports for VOA.

Travel video about destination Thailand.
Thailand Country in Asia
Thailand is a country on Southeast Asia’s Indochina peninsula known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha, a revered symbol. In Bangkok, the capital, an ultramodern cityscape rises next to quiet canal and riverside communities. Commercial hubs such as Chinatown consist of labyrinthine alleys crammed with shophouses, markets and diners.

In the United States, believers have a lot of opportunities to meet together in churches and at conferences. But that’s not true everywhere in the world. Hear about a group of women who had to travel secretly and sneak across borders in order to attend a conference for ministry leaders.

Asian Food Cooking Classes in Southeast Asia
Asian Food Cooking Classes in Southeast Asia

Top 10 Things to do in Southeast Asia attractions travel guide
Top 10 Things to do in Southeast Asia attractions travel guide

12 Temples to visit in Southeast Asia
12 Temples to visit in Southeast Asia

Previous tour of Singapore, some Arsenal players had the opportunity to enjoy the durian, which is Southeast Asians as the "king of fruits".
After the season ended, teachers and coaches Arsenal Wenger will tour Singapore in mid-March 7. Before this trip, some Arsenal players have been tested before durian, a fruit popular in Southeast Asia.
In a clip posted on Facebook of Arsenal recently, Deputy Chairman of Arsenal fans in Singapore, Mr Tiong Jin Yan has introduced durian - which is considered the "king of fruits" - to some Gunners stars including Gibbs, Grabny, Szczesny, Flamini and Debuchy. Expression of the Arsenal star is a bit "scared" when he heard Mr Tiong Jin Yan explains the fruit has very specific taste that not everyone can smell and eat it.
After tasting durian, Grabny grimaced and admitted he could not swallow this fruit. Of the five players are invited to enjoy, only seems interested Kieran Gibbs. "It simply does not smell of fruit alone" - Gibbs said and asserted may eat more when you arrive in Singapore.
Apart from Arsenal, Stoke and Everton also attended this season tour. Three teams of the Premier League and the team "Stars Singapore" will compete in the friendlies taking place from July 15 to 18/7 on the National Stadium.

Philippines says prepared to help boatpeople
Philippines says prepared to help boatpeople

Indonesia says migrant crisis is regional problem
Indonesia says migrant crisis is regional problem
Indonesia said on May 19 that the migrant boat crisis was a problem for all of Southeast Asia ahead of key regional talks, as Jakarta and other countries came under more pressure to let the boatpeople land.
Nearly 3,000 Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants have made it to shore in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia in recent days after a Thai crackdown disrupted people-trafficking routes, prompting operators of rickety boats to dump their human cargo.
