John William "Johnny" Carson (October 23, 1925 – January 23, 2005) was an American television host and comedian, known for thirty years as host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962–1992). Carson received six Emmy Awards, the Governor Award, and a 1985 Peabody Award. He was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1987. Johnny Carson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992 and received a Kennedy Center Honor in 1993.
Although his show was already successful by the end of the 1960s, during the 1970s Carson became an American icon and remained so until his retirement in 1992. He adopted a casual, conversational approach with extensive interaction with guests, an approach pioneered by Arthur Godfrey and previous Tonight Show hosts Steve Allen and Jack Paar. Late night hosts David Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, Craig Ferguson, and Jimmy Fallon have all cited Carson's influence on their late-night talk shows, which resemble his in format and tone.
Carson was born in Corning, Iowa, in the year 1925, to Homer Lloyd "Kit" Carson, a power company manager, and Ruth Hook Carson, who was of Irish descent. He grew up in the nearby towns of Avoca, Clarinda, and Red Oak in southwest Iowa before moving to Norfolk, Nebraska, at the age of eight. At the age of twelve, Carson found a book on magic at a friend's house and immediately purchased a mail-order magician's kit. He debuted as "The Great Carsoni" at fourteen and was paid $3; many other performances at local picnics and country fairs followed.
Richard St John Harris (1 October 1930 – 25 October 2002) was an Irish actor, singer-songwriter, theatrical producer, film director and writer.
He appeared on stage and in many films, and is perhaps best known for his roles as King Arthur in Camelot (1967), as Oliver Cromwell in Cromwell (1970) and as Albus Dumbledore in the first two films in the Harry Potter series, his final works. He played a British aristocrat and prisoner in A Man Called Horse (1970), Emperor Marcus Aurelius in Gladiator (2000), Saint John in Apocalypse Revelation (2002), gunfighter English Bob in Clint Eastwood's Western film Unforgiven (1992), and Dom Frollo in the 1997 TV movie version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Harris had a top ten hit in the UK and the US with his 1968 recording of Jimmy Webb's song "MacArthur Park".
Harris, the fifth of nine children, was born in Limerick city, Ireland (then known as the Irish Free State) into a middle-class, staunchly Roman Catholic family. His parents were Ivan John Harris (b. 1896, son of Richard Harris, b. 1854, son of James Harris of St. Michael's, Limerick) and Mildred Josephine Harty Harris (b. 1898, daughter of James Harty, St. John's, Limerick, who owned a flour mill.) Harris' siblings include Patrick Ivan (born 1929), Noel William Michael (born 1932), Diarmid (Dermot, born 1939), and William George Harris (born 1942). He was schooled by the Jesuits at Crescent College. A talented rugby player, he was on several Munster Junior and Senior Cup teams for Crescent, and played for Garryowen. Harris' athletic career was cut short when he caught tuberculosis in his teens. He remained an ardent fan of the Munster Rugby and Young Munster teams then until his death, and attending many of its matches, and there are numerous stories of japes at rugby matches with the actors and fellow rugby fans Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton.
Munster Rugby, usually referred to simply as Munster, is one of the four professional provincial rugby teams from Ireland. They compete in the RaboDirect Pro12 and the Heineken Cup. The team represents the IRFU Munster Branch, which is one of four primary branches of the IRFU and is responsible for rugby union in the Irish province of Munster. Their main home ground is Thomond Park, Limerick, though some smaller profile games are played at Musgrave Park, Cork. Munster currently play in a red and blue home strip, while the away strip is white striped horizontally with the colours of the six counties of Munster. The Munster Rugby logo consists of three crowns and a stag. The team motto is "To the brave and faithful, nothing is impossible"; it is derived from the motto of the MacCarthy clan – "Forti et Fideli nihil difficile".
Munster is known for its passionate support and games involving Munster hold several Heineken Cup records for highest attendances in every stage of the finals, as well as the highest ever attendance for a rugby game in both Spain and Switzerland. In 2008, Director of Coaching Declan Kidney left to take up the head coach job with Ireland, and Munster ensured continuity by promoting Australian Tony McGahan to the position from within the coaching setup.
It's a cold and bitter tale
About a man whose spent his time in jail
Yeah, yeah, whoa, whoa
Said it's better, it's better
I never should've let her know
It was better to lie
I'm screaming, he's talking over
I've asked him twice, says he don't know her
I raise a fist, he grabs my wrist
Ask for the truth and this is what I get
I only asked him
Who called the cellular?
He said he don't know
But yeah, it was a girl
And he's chilling
Like nothing of it
Now I'm tripping
I'm yelling up in public like
Oh, can you please just be honest?
He tells me some story, but I just don't want to know
No, I just don't believe him
And all I want to do is keep screaming and he's like
Please calm down
Baby, because you're talking too loud
I'm hollering, hollering
You won't let the truth come out
So please calm down
Baby, because your volume's too high
I should've kept the truth inside
So maybe it was better to lie
Said it's better, it's better
I never should've let her know
It was better to lie
Said it's better
It was better to lie
Said it's better
It was better to lie
I walk away
So he comes after
I'm running quick
But he runs faster
Some explanation that I don't need
He tells me, "Baby
Can you sit down and breathe?"
Freaking out, hysterical
Said you shouldn't lie
Would've been better off
So silly me thinking you're a good guy
Maybe now you know not to lie
Oh, can you please just be honest?
He tells me some story but I just don't want to know
No, I just don't believe him
And all I want to do is keep screaming and he's like
Please calm down
Baby, because you're talking too loud
I'm hollering, hollering
You won't let the truth come out
So please calm down
Baby, because your volume's too high
I should've kept the truth inside
So maybe it was better to lie
Said it's better, it's better
I never should've let her know
It was better to lie
Said it's better
It was better to lie
Said it's better
It was better to lie
I thought it would be better if I did you right
But I guess I should've told you lies
You lied, you lied
And now you're standing, telling me
Please calm down
Baby, because you're talking too loud
I'm hollering, hollering
You won't let the truth come out
So please calm down
Baby, because your volume's too high
I should've kept the truth inside
So maybe it was better to lie
Said it's better, it's better
I never should've let her know
It was better to lie
Said it's better
It was better to lie
Said it's better
Crimson was the flower. Midnight was the hour
His mind was distorted by the witches cower
Bring me the powder that I need
Bring me the sacrificial seed
Give me a reason not to need
The powder, the powder, the powder
Give me a dance to dice with death
Give me the demon's last breath
Give me a horse from which never to fall
Give me life eternal. Give me it all
Bring me the powder that I need
Bring me the sacrificial seed
Give me a reason not to breathe
The powder, the powder, the powder
Let me bathe in the glory of the skag
Roll in the thunder, you've all been had
I'm beginning to rot, never to return
Give me the beauty that I yearn
I bathe in vomit shit and lice
I convulse it's not very nice
I black out but I still hear the sound
The priest reads out loud
As I'm buried in the ground
But I'm not dead that all remains is unfound
Give me the reason that I want
Bring me the powder that I need
Bring me the sacrificial seed
Give me the reason not to need
The powder, the powder, the powder
