Tanzania's gross domestic product has expanded by 32 percent after the state rebased its calculation to incorporate new sectors in the economy, including big discoveries of natural gas. According to the national bureau of statistics, its gdp stood at 69.8 trillion tanzanian shillings after the rebasing, up from a previous estimate of 53 trillion shillings. Farming remains tanzania's economic mainstay, while tourism, mining, communications and financial services are the other key sectors. Tanzania has also made big natural gas discoveries, with revenues expected to give a boost to the economy by 2020. The base year for calculations was changed to 2007 from 2001 and the nbs said gdp growth for 2013 was subsequently revised up to 7.3 percent from 7 percent previously. The rebasing comes just months after kenya’s rebasing efforts, which saw the country’s ecopnomy revised up by 25 percent to 53.4 billion dollars in 2013. National Environment Management (NEMC) / United Nations in Tanzania Tanzania's rich natural resources are fundamental for the country's growth and economic development. However, the under utilization of the potential of the environment and natural resources to the economy and people's livelihoods contributes to Tanzania standing as one of world's poorest countries. PEI initiated the country programme in 2003 to support the government in addressing these issues and promoting sustainable development. The PEI Tanzania programme focuses on developing capabilities of key national institutions in designing and implementing pro-poor economic growth interventions and sustainable development.Thereby the country programme is contributing to national development plans (NDPs and UNDAP 2011 -2015) as well and the achievement of the overall PEI Programme outputs. PEI Tanzania is jointly led by the President's Office Planning Commission. In addition various sector ministries such as Finance, Regional Administration and Local Government, National Bureau of Statistics and Vice President's Office--Division of Environmentare involved in the project implementation. PEI Tanzania is also closely collaborating with the University of Dar es Salaam and with the UNDP CO and is part of the One-UN processes under the UNRC.

Massaman curry is one of the most well known Thai dishes… but it’s not often my favorite dish… but then Grandma made it for me: http://migrationology.com/2014/09/grandmas-massaman-curry-ayutthaya/ So like I mentioned, Thai massaman curry is usually not my favorite dish in Thailand - mainly because it’s usually prepared quite sweet, and it’s also usually quite oily. However, it is one of the most famous dishes in Thailand, and a food that many people love - in fact - a few years back, CNN.com named it as one of the best Thai dishes, or foods, in the entire world! But anyways, Ying and I were in Ayutthaya filming for the Thai food TV documentary, and one day we went over to Grandma’s house (it was the house of a Grandma of a friend of someone on our TV filming crew) - so it was really cool to be able to film, and eat, at a local home. Ayutthaya is not just a city, but it’s a province in Thailand, so we weren’t right in Ayutthaya town, but were about 30 km outside of the town in a smaller town known as Ban Phaen (บ้านแพน). As soon as we arrived, and I saw the view of the home overlooking the calm water, I was excited. Our first step was to go to Ban Phaen Market (ตลาดบ้านแพน), which was just about a 10 minute walk from the house. I went along with Grandma’s daughter to the market to find all the ingredients we needed to make an authentic recipes for Thai massaman curry. Grandma, formerly sold massaman curry and other curries at the market in Ayutthaya, but she hadn’t sold in many years. She knew many original and authentic Ayutthaya recipes, included one for massaman chicken. After buying all the ingredients and spices we needed for the chicken massaman curry recipe, we then headed back home and started cooking. The first step was to prepare the curry paste (เครื่องแกงมัสมั่น) - which included chopping and roasted a bunch of different spices and herbs like shallots, garlic, galangal, dry chili, kaffir lime peel, and fingerroot (among many more things which you’ll see in the video). Then we used those roasted ingredients to pound a beautiful massaman curry paste. Next, we boiled chicken with peanuts and simmered it on low heat. In the meantime, we took the massaman curry paste and cooked it along with thick coconut cream until it turned into a beautiful, almost gravy like, sauce. We then added the coconut paste mixture to the chicken, threw in a bunch more spices like Siam cardamom and bay leaves, and simmered the massaman curry (แกงมัสมั่นไก่). Here’s something I didn’t know (and the reason there was already a full post of massaman chicken curry cooked and ready when we arrived in the morning): massaman is better the next day, and it should be cooked one day, left to set, and eaten the next day. So in order to film and eat all in one day, Grandma had cooked a pot the previous day, so we could eat it the same day. On this day, not only did I have an amazing time and a local Thai cultural experience, but I definitely gained a new appreciation for Thai massaman curry. It’s a complex dish, one that’s often shortcutted these days, but if made correctly can be very delicious. Massaman curry (แกงมัสมั่นไก่) is a blend of cultures, a fusion of Thai ingredients and Persian / Middle Eastern spices, all blended together in a harmony. Grandma made an authentic, no-shortcuts, recipe for massaman curry, an original Ayutthaya dish. It was so much better than just about every other massaman dish I had ever had previously - you just can hardly find the home-cooked quality at any restaurant as you would find at Grandma’s house. It was a wonderful day, a great cultural experience, and marvelous food! Thank you for watching this vlog, hope you enjoyed it. In this video, American teachers visited a Tanzania UNICEF-supported healthcare center and primary school to learn about the work UNICEF does for children around the world. At the healthcare center, mothers are provided with prenatal appointments, recordings of a baby’s weight and other services to prevent malnutrition in children. At the primary school, the focus is to train teachers and teach the kids about the importance of sanitation. The schools have a water pump to provide them with clean, safe drinking water and the students are growing their own food to get more nutrients to fight-off disease. Visit http://www.TrickorTreatforUnicef.org to order a UNICEF collection box or set up an online fundraising page this Halloween to help give children a healthy start in life.

Health workers experience various challenges that affect their willingness to show up to work. The objective of this PSA will be to involve citizens in the supervision and encouragement of health workers to do their job better and attend patients well. Twaweza means "we can make it happen" in Kiswahili. It is a ten-‐year, citizen-‐ centered initiative that seeks to foster conditions through which millions of people can get information and make change happen in their own communities directly or by holding their governments to account. The message of this PSA has a common 'Ni sisi' philosophy in resolving health issues.

In Tanzania, the public health system is overloaded. Four out of every 10 people turn to the private sector for their care, where quality can be inconsistent. PSI’s Familia network addresses this problem, reaching low-income clients with high quality maternal and child health services. Using a model called social franchising, PSI applies commercial franchising strategies to privately-owned clinics. Social franchising benefits clients, who get improved services, health workers, who gain valuable training in business and medical skills, and PSI, which gets increased health impact – our measure of success. Today, PSI works with business owners all over the world, reaching 10 million people every year. Learn more at http://psi.org.

Beginning midnight on Friday Tanzania's tour vans will not be allowed to pick up, drop or exchange passengers at Kenya's national parks and airports. This follows the failure between Kenya and Tanzania to hold talks to resolve the spat between the two Nations within the 3-week window that had been set aside. Kenya will now strictly abide by a 1985 bilateral agreement on tourism, which the two states signed whose conditions when fully adhered to make for a strained relationship. Alex Saul, Tanzania tour guide - Alex Saul, Tanzania trip leader Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa, bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north; Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south. Do in Tanzania ============ 1 - Safari While you are in Tanzania you may organize your safari to Serengeti and other National parks at an affordable price. If there's one trip that will change your perspective on life, it's an African safari. Contact some of the tour operators for Safari Details. 2 - Cultural Tours Touring Tanzania for culture is interestingly great as it encompasses more than 150+ ethnic groups. There is plenty of traditional food, cultural practices (such as hunting with bushmen, beeskeeping, traditional medicine) that one enjoys within the boundaries. You will also get to visit a number of locations that normally people would be completely unaware of. If you happen to be a person who loves to explore the world and meet new people in order to gain knowledge about different customs, a cultural tour is definitely the best type of vacation for you.The services are not expensive and can turn out to be cheaper than expected provided you get the right information on where to stay, best tour companies and just knowledge of what you want. This way, it will save you time and costs as well. 3 - There are loads of National Parks for those wanting to watch Tanzania's wildlife. You can gain entry for around $100 US and benefit from a tour (and perhaps a night's accommodation). The better parks, though packed with tourists, are found in the north of the country. Ruaha National Park is the best in the south (locals actually say this is the best park, especially if you want to see wild animals as opposed to semi-tame ones in the northern parks). Don't just be sucked into the tourist circuit in the north; the south offers great parks and towns (base yourself out of Iringa), and you will feel less of a tourist and more of a guest if you travel this way. 4 - Scuba diving in and around Pemba and Zanzibar is another good experience. 5 - You can also visit numerous historical Slave Trade sites, which could make for an interesting, if a little depressing, excursion. 6 - Beaches: Did you know that Tanzania has some of the best, most unspoiled beaches in the world? They are stunning, with their white sand, palm trees, and cool Indian Ocean water! 7 - Kayak the beautiful coastal waters with a tour operator. 8 - Tanzania has two of the best Stone Age sites in the world: Isimila Gorge (near Iringa) and the earliest known examples of human art among the rock paintings, near Kolo, north of Dodoma -- some of which are reckoned to be around 30,000 years old. 9 - Kilimanjaro is one of Tanzania's main attractions. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Many visitors come to Tanzania to summit this great mountain. The main peak is estimated to be 5895m high making it a real challenge for mountaineers.

While on one of our treks to visit with the Hadza people of Lake Eyasi, we heard about an active striped hyena den and decided to take a look. We climbed up the rock face, through caves and dense bush and finally found the den. I stashed a GoPro and an Olympus Stylus camera. In the morning, I was rewarded with this gorgeous footage of an animal rarely even seen by people.

DAR ES SALAAM (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Tanzanian police said on Wednesday they had found the mutilated body of a one-year-old albino boy whose abduction renewed calls for tougher action to stop the killing of albinos for their body parts, prized in black magic. An armed gang snatched Yohana Bahati from his mother at their home in northwestern Tanzania's Geita region on Sunday, a month after the government announced a nationwide ban on witch doctors, who are accused of encouraging attacks on albinos. He was the second albino child in two months to be abducted in the Lake zone of Tanzania. A four-year-old girl who was kidnapped in December is still missing. All Africa 2015-03-25Coordinates: 6°18′25″S 34°51′14″E / 6.307°S 34.854°E / -6.307; 34.854 Tanzania, officially the United Republic of Tanzania ( /ˌtænzəˈniːə/ Swahili: Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania), is a country in East Africa bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south. The country's eastern border lies on the Indian Ocean.
Tanzania is a state composed of 26 regions (mikoa), including those of the semi-autonomous region of Zanzibar. The head of state is President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, elected in 2005. Since 1996, the official capital of Tanzania has been Dodoma, where Parliament and some government offices are located. Between independence and 1996, the main coastal city of Dar es Salaam served as the country's political capital. Today, Dar es Salaam remains the principal commercial city of Tanzania and the de facto seat of most government institutions. It is the major seaport for the country and its landlocked neighbours.

When Jen lays down
Mary's just opening her eyes.
Her child's feet land on the ground
and dirt scatters,
And she feels left out in the open,
always left out in the open.
She says, 'son, wear my shoes to school today?.
He turns and smiles and walks away,
and she thinks to herself
"Someday I will wake
where the earth is clean and safe.
My children have a place to play,
not here in Tanzania.
And someday I will live
in a house that's built by
hands that hold the world."
It's eight hours earlier in Chattanooga.
Mary sits down and Jen's just put the coffee on.
Katie Couric is talking news and fashion,
and Jen feels pushed into a corner,
always pushed into a corner, she says
'Baby I know what girls at school are like'.
And her daughter rides off on her bike,
and Jen thinks to herself
"Someday I will wake
where my children get a break,
And there are chances that they'll take,
not here in Chattanooga.
Someday I will live
in a house that's built by
hands that hold the world."
Well it's hard to be mother,
and it's hard to be a woman,
and it's hard to live in Africa sometimes.
It's hard to be mother,
and it's hard to be a woman,
and it's hard to live in America sometimes.
But someday I will wake
in a body that won't break,
On ground that doesn't shake, not here.
And someday I will live
in a house that's built by
