The raw material for the manufacture of steam boilers is subject to a duty of about 20 per cent. Boilers imported ready for use pay a duty of about 2½ per cent. Though Uruguay has recovered from the severe economic crisis of 2002 and has enjoyed sustained economic growth, it still suffers from inequalities, social exclusion and marginalization that leave vulnerable populations - many of them women, children and adolescents -- without access to goods, services and basic rights. The MDG-F worked with the government to improve access to cultural goods and services, promote cultural expressions and develop cultural industries in order to boost economic development, promote the participation of women and strengthen social cohesion. This video is part of a documentary series about the Viví Cultura initiative supported by the MDG-F. http://mdgfund.org/

- Outlines why Uruguay is a very attractive destination for foreign agribusiness investors, especially those from India Contact: info@alliedventure.com; www.alliedventure.com Target overseas clients: Govt. entities working on ensuring food security, farmers with big landholdings (individuals or groups), corporate houses with 'farm-to-fork' strategy/need to control supply chain, food processing companies, strategic private investors/agro investment funds, pension funds for forestry acquisitions. Top Ten Reasons for agribusiness investors to consider Uruguay 1. In Uruguay there are no restrictions on foreign ownership of farmland which is available in abundance ; the country has about 10% less land area than the Indian states of Gujarat/Karnataka. While Gujarat/Karnataka have population over 5 crores, Uruguay has population of just 35 lakhs - 70% of the population of Ahmedabad/or half the population of Bangalore. In Uruguay, there are 4 cows for each person, and each cow, on average, has 2 football fields worth of grazing area to itself!! Not surprisingly, dairy is a key export sector 2. Uruguay has clear land titles - all land is GPS mapped to high accuracy and all land records are in a transparent, public-access database. There is no problem with land squatters - with low population density of 6 persons per sq km outside main cities there are simply not enough people to cause such problems. All land transactions are in the free market - among private parties with no government involvement. 3. Plenty of land area is arable with huge future potential 1 million hectares currently under cultivation; 3 million more hectare of high potential farmland available', 9 million hectares of total potential farmland only 1/9 of that is being utilized. Main crops include soy, wheat, maize(corn) and sunflower; fruits are also grown. Farming is highly mechanized like in the US/Canada and farm sizes of 1000 hectares (2500 acres) can be operated by 3 to 4 people who are subcontracted, not on the farm company payroll. 4. Uruguay has almost ideal weather/soils for farming/forestry - subtropical/temperate year-round with no extremes of climate. Lies between 30 and 35 degrees South Latitudes.for e.g. in soy, Uruguay farmland has 3X productivity compared to India at a fraction of the cost. for e.g. in eucalyptus forest plantations, tree growth rates are some of the highest in the world 30-40 m3/hectare/year. 5. Uruguay is a fresh water paradise with a dense network of rivers, streams and lakes. No irrigation pumps are necessary for farming. Agriculture is rain-fed, it rains every 4 or 5 days throughout the year and ground water bubbles up right below the surface. Moreover, the northern part of the country sits on top of the Guarani Aquifer - the world's largest single groundwater reserve. The Yale University developed 2005 Environmental Sustainability Index ranked Uruguay Number 3 out of 146 countries - a countrys high score resulting from substantial natural resource endowments, low population density, and successful management of environment and development issues. US ranked #45 and India #101. 6. Uruguay is a democracy with no racial, religious or ethnic conflict. It was recently ranked #25 on the Global Peace Index - for comparison, the U.S. ranked #97 and India #122. 7. Uruguay has first world human development indicators - a skilled workforce with 98% literacy rate, and life expectancy at birth of 76 years. Tata Consultancy Services established its Latin American footprint here and employs 700 of the local workforce in the capital Montevideo. 8. By Uruguay national law, foreign investors are treated on parity with domestic investors. The country has a Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement with India. The U.S. Department of Commerce considers it a safe country for investors. 9. There are no restrictions on bringing capital into the country or repatriating capital/dividends (the economy is dollarized, so hedging risk is straightforward, with the local currency - Uruguayan peso being fully convertible). Corporate taxes are 25% on profits (0% for forestry) and foreign personnel can obtain work permits/residency quite easily. 10. Uruguay has good banking infrastructure and sound legal system, that respects property rights and contracts - offering investors predictability. It has well developed logistics for grain transport. It offers market access to the Mercosur trade bloc of 250 million customers and a GDP of almost $2 trillion. In summary, Uruguay is country that offers value for money in agribusiness. Its economy, similar to New Zealand in its agro-based focus, offers agribusiness opportunities for investors, while offering the investor benefits like Mauritius and strict banking secrecy/political stability of Switzerland.

Uruguay has a long-standing tradition of observance of the law and respect for private property, which has never been jeopardized throughout changes in government. Doing business in Uruguay is simple. There is a multilingual and qualified workforce available in every professional field. According to the organization Transparency International, Uruguay ranks second in the list of least corrupt countries in the continent. The impartiality of Uruguay's Justice system is unquestionable, and Government bodies and individuals alike observe and honor all their agreements. Uruguay is a safe place to both live and do business in. Large multinational corporations such as Tata Consultancy Services, IBM, Sabre and Xerox, just to mention a few, have chosen Uruguay as a platform for their operations in the region. Its strategic location, low operating costs and the excellent qualifications of its people were key factors in these companies decision to establish themselves in the country. Uruguay has bank secrecy regulations in place and depositors can choose to open accounts in international currencies (dollars, euros). Moreover, there are no restrictions to currency exchange and the domestic financial market is strong, having withstood the major economic crises that affected the region in recent years. Uruguay was the first country in the Americas -even ahead of the United States- to digitalize its entire telephone network. The country has full coverage in telecommunications, and the private service providers operating in Uruguay continue to lower their prices dramatically. Transportation is made easy by a network of routes and roads connecting every corner of the country. There are no unreachable regions in Uruguay, and everything is just a short step away.

The renowned Jamaican scientist Dr. Henry Lowe, a leader in THC studies for medical purposes, is running the company with the University of West Indies and the University of Technology jointly funding the facility. In addition to studying the scientific benefits of marijuana, Dr. Lowe says the company will produce CBD-based medical products, which fall under legally accepted medicinal use of the ganja plant. Lowe says the plant extract can be used to treat psychosis and severe pain, as well as mid-life crises in men. http://www.profitableinvestingtips.com/profitable-investing-tips/invest-in-cuba Invest in Cuba By www.ProfitableInvestingTips.com President Obama is expected to announce that the United States government is going to start on the path to normalized relations with Cuba. This will include opening a US Embassy in Cuba, the first in more than fifty years. According to Voice of America the breakthrough is part of a deal featuring prisoner exchanges and talks about normalizing banking and trade ties as part of a revamp of US-Cuba relations. U.S. Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida said the U.S. and Cuba were moving toward normalized banking and trade ties. He also said the U.S. was poised to open an embassy in Havana in the coming months. Our interest is how to invest in Cuba. With this thought in mind let us look at foreign companies that already do business in Cuba. Foreign Companies Doing Business with Cuba Roughly 4,500 companies do business with Cuba. Nations whose companies do business with Cuba include the following: Argentina Ecuador Mexico Australia Finland Morocco Austria France The Netherlands Bahamas Germany Panama Barbados Greece Portugal Belize Guatemala Russia Belgium Guyana Scotland Brazil Haiti South Africa British Virgin Island Holland South Korea Canada Honduras Spain Canary Islands Hong Kong Sweden Cayman Islands Ireland Switzerland Chile Israel Taiwan China Italy Turkey Colombia Jamaica Uganda Costa Rica Japan United Kingdom Czechoslovakia Lebanon Uruguay Dominican Republic Luxemborg Venezuela Denmark Malaysia The U.S. Cuba Trade and Economic Council lists companies by nation doing business in Cuba. A small sampling of some of the companies cited in the international media as currently having commercial activities, or having had some commercial activities, or discussing some commercial activities, with enterprises within the Republic of Cuba. There are currently an estimated 4,500 companies from more than 100 countries that "do business in the Republic of Cuba" within such categories as importing to, exporting from, providing services to, or having investments within the Republic of Cuba. The point being that there are already a lot of nations and many companies with footholds in Cuba. A first step toward investing in Cuba would be to take a look at who is already there and what they are doing to make money. American Companies Doing Business with Cuba According to CNBC there already are US companies doing business with Cuba. In Corpus Christi, Texas, beans are being bagged by the thousands and shipped off to a country that for decades was considered forbidden. That country is, of course, Cuba and the beans being sent there are grown in North Dakota, according to WestStar Food President Pat Wallesen. He not only can, he has. For the past nine years, Wallesen has been filling entire container ships with 10,000 bags of beans at a time. He says the last shipment he sent to Cuba was worth $3.2 million. So, how is this legal with an embargo in place? In 2000, Congress passed reforms to that embargo allowing U.S.-based companies to export approved products to Cuba. And it’s not just beans. In fact, there are hundreds of items on a United States Commerce Department list of goods that can be exported to Cuba. According to AgriLIFE Extension at Texas A&M;, U.S. exports to Cuba peaked in 2008 at $711 million, but that number has declined in recent years. In 2010, AgriLIFE Extension says $94.8 million in corn, $99.8 million in frozen chicken and $17.8 million in wheat were exported from the United States to Cuba. If you want to invest in Cuba or do business with Cuba look at what others are already doing and you will be ready when relations are normalized. http://youtu.be/QkEsUXH-mD8

Greece's snap election has increased the risk of more trouble for the eurozone and at best, many businesses are saying they just hope things will not get worse. Tính từ của TRADITION là TRADITIONAL, nghĩa thuộc về truyền thống, mang tính truyền thống. Trái nghĩa với TRADITIONAL là NON-TRADITIONAL. Phần tiếng Anh: It's an age-old tradition in Kyrgyzstan - Yak herding. Herders cultivate yaks for their meat and for their milk. The Yaks eat hay and spend most of their time grazing on mountain grass. Authorities are hoping to renew this tradition, which was set aside for the most part after independence. With about 31,000 Yaks in the country -- it's not enough for the domestic or export markets – authorities are hoping investors will see a future in a tradition from the country’s past. In Uruguay, 40 groups of drummers participated in a competition that took place in the old Montevideo neighborhoods of Palermo and Barrio Sur, the birthplace of the Afro-Uruguayan music candombe. This style of music is considered a tradition of Uruguay. It appeared in Montevideo in the 19th century, and was influenced by a mix of cultures brought by African slaves. Initially only Afro-descendants participated in drumming groups, but nowadays, it’s open to everyone. Finally, we turn to an old Bulgarian tradition. Thousands of dancers from villages around Bulgaria and abroad, gathered in the western town of Pernik for the annual Surva Carnival-- a festival of masquerade games. The main idea of the carnival, which started in 1966-- is to revive and renew ancient culture and traditions, with an emphasis on Bulgarian dress. The event reaches its climax with a great parade, showcasing different rituals. The dancers’ scary costumes and masks along with sound from heavy bells, are believed to scare off evil and bring good health. Uruguay is one of the few countries in Latin America that does not have dengue, but its proximity to neighbouring Brazil and Argentina where the disease is prevalent puts it at risk. However, a community approach to reducing breeding of the mosquitos that can carry dengue is starting to pay off. This is part of a seven countries' research study in Latin America using environmental and community approaches to reducing Chagas disease and dengue. It has been implemented by TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, in partnership with Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Pan American Health Organization. Montevideo, Uruguay (NTN24) Uruguay officials discard organ trafficking as possible motive as they investigate at least 16 killings at two Montevideo hospitals. Uruguay is setting up a centralised information system to look into at least 16 killings at two Montevideo hospitals, a health official said Tuesday (March 20). Over the weekend, Uruguay arrested two male nurses for the killings and a third female nurse for allegedly trying to cover them up. Local media reports have speculated there may be dozens more victims. Leonel Briozzo, the under-secretary at Uruguay's health ministry, said a centralised information system had been set up to look into other suspicious deaths. "An administrative investigation was decreed yesterday and it is being established today. The second part is the creation of an information unit, which has been created. It's already working. Yesterday we got together with representatives for patients at the Spanish Mutual Care hospital and the state health services to work together. But there is going to be a system of information and support at each place, because they have requested it. There is going to be a central system and coordination between them so the patients and patients' relatives who want to come directly here don't have to go to the hospitals," the health official said. Briozzo said the list of the 16 victims the men were suspected of killing was in the hands of the judge. "We still don't have the list of patients who have suffered from these criminal acts. That list is in the hands of the judge," he said. Briozzo also shot down rumours that the killings may have been carried out in order to traffic organs. "To be a candidate (to donate) for transplants in Uruguay and in the world, you have to be a patient who is brain dead, which was not the situation with any of the cases in the killings. Therefore, the hypothesis of organ trafficking is completely discarded," he said. Authorities began initial investigations last year after the family of Santa Gladys Lemos reported suspicions about her death. Lemos was a 74-year-old diabetes patient at the Maciel hospital who died a day after she was told she would get be sent home.

Uruguay has been taken to a World Bank tribunal by the cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris International. At stake is the right of an individual country to set its own public health agenda, against the right of cigarette companies to sell what is a legal product. The tobacco giant says that Uruguay's anti-smoking policies have gone too far.
Employment of former employees of the tobacco industry After Philip Morris unexpectedly closed its factory in Uruguay, leaving their workers without jobs, a cooperative of former employees who signed an agreement with the Ministry of Public Health of Uruguay for health advocacy was established, prevention of smoking and enforcement of laws governing tobacco control

Uruguay's move to legalize marijuana breaks international treaty: International Narcotics Control Board VIENNA (Reuters) - Uruguay's decision to legalize marijuana is in violation of an international convention on drug control, a Vienna-based body set up to monitor government compliance with such treaties said on Wednesday. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/Tt96LVKyNX0/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
Uruguay's decision to legalise the production, sale and consumption of marijuana violates international law, the UN drugs watchdog says. The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) warned that the move would endanger young people and "contribute to the earlier onset of addiction". The new law will allow registered Uruguayans over 18 to buy up to 40g (1.4oz) of the drug a month. The government hopes it will help tackle drug cartels. INCB chief Raymond Yans said he was "surprised" that the government in Montevideo had "knowingly decided to break the universally agreed and internationally endorsed treaty".In a statement, Mr Yans said claims the law would help reduce crime relied on "rather precarious and unsubstantiated assumptions". The INCB is an independent body of experts established by the United Nations to monitor countries' compliance with international drug treaties. After nearly 12 hours of debate on Tuesday, senators gave the government-sponsored bill their final approval, making Uruguay the first country in the world to legalise the production and sale of marijuana. Dozens of supporters of the bill proposed by the left-wing President Jose Mujica gathered outside the Congress in Montevideo to follow the vote. Presenting the bill to fellow senators, Roberto Conde said it was an unavoidable response to reality, given that the "war" against drugs had failed. "We have the duty as the state to give a specific answer to an open territory, small and non-producing," Mr Conde said, adding that Uruguay's borders were used by cartels to smuggle drugs into neighbouring countries. But many senators also spoke out against the bill, before it was passed by 16 votes to 13. Opposition lawmaker Alfredo Solari said Uruguay should not "experiment" on its people. Debate continues The project had already been approved by Uruguay's lower house in July.A Uruguayan woman on the government's plans: "This president is doing what needs to be done" The historic approval comes amid growing debate over drug legalisation in Latin America. A group of former presidents and influential social figures, including Brazil's Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Mexico's Ernesto Zedillo and Colombian ex-leader Cesar Gaviria, have called for marijuana to be legalised and regulated. But President Mujica recently asked during an interview why the former leaders only spoke out about the legalisation of marijuana after they had left office.

Check out other videos from Weediquette here: http://bit.ly/1iVLbL7 You might not know who Arjan Roskam is, but you've probably smoked his weed. Arjan's been breeding some of the most famous marijuana strains in the world—like White Widow, Super Silver Haze, and many others—for over 20 years. In 1992 he opened his first coffee shop in Amsterdam and has since crafted his marijuana-breeding skills into a market-savvy empire known as Green House Seed Company, which rakes in millions of dollars a year. He's won 38 Cannabis Cups and has dubbed himself the King of Cannabis. VICE joins Arjan and his crew of strain hunters in Colombia to look for three of the country's rarest types of weed, strains that have remained genetically pure for decades. In grower's terms, these are called landraces. We trudge up mountains and crisscross military checkpoints in the country's still-violent south, and then head north to the breathtaking Caribbean coast. As the dominoes of criminalization fall throughout the world, Arjan is positioned to be at the forefront of the legitimate international seed trade. The undercover world of a former DEA agent, who at one point was responsible for what could be the biggest drug deal in history. $3.6 billion dollars and bringing multiple countries down for a real win on the side of the people, only to find out our own government is really not interested in winning this war or any war. We discuss a first-hand account of the sabotage of a DEA undercover sting operation that threatened to expose us government ties to drug financed governments of multiple countries. Like Vietnam, the Drug War is not intended to be won. Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News VICE founder Suroosh Alvi travels to Mexico to see the effects of cartel oil theft firsthand. Mexico’s notoriously violent drug cartels are diversifying. Besides trafficking narcotics, extorting businesses, and brutally murdering their rivals, cartels are now at work exploiting their country’s precious number one export: oil. Every day as many as 10,000 barrels of crude oil are stolen from Mexico’s state-run oil company, Pemex, through precarious illegal taps, which are prone to deadly accidents. Pemex estimates that it loses $5 billion annually in stolen oil, some of which ends up being sold over the border in US gas stations. As police fight the thieves, and the cartels fight each other, the number of victims caught in the battle for the pipelines continues to climb. "Legislators in Uruguay's lower house today narrowly voted to legalize marijuana in an ambitious effort to target the illegal drug trade that has plagued the region. The bill, which President José Mujica has strongly supported, is expected to pass in the Senate in the fall, though a majority of Uruguay's citizens still oppose the measure."* Lawmakers in Uruguay are moving to be the first nation in the world to legalize marijuana. What is there plan, and why does it look like it'll work? Will the legalization set a precedent to show the world what would happen if pot were legal? Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Steve Oh, and Jimmy Dore discuss. Recorded February 15, 2009. Montevideo is the largest city, the capital and chief port of Uruguay. Montevideo is the only city in the country with a population over 1,000,000. The video begins at the port on the Rio de la Plata and then continues in downtown at Plaza Independencia (Spanish for Independence Square). It splits Ciudad Vieja from downtown Montevideo, with the Gateway of The Citadel on one side and the beginning of 18 de Julio avenue on the other. Next we stop at the Parliament Building followed by the famous sculpture La Diligencia (The Sage Coach), Monument to the last Charruas indians. Next stop was the soccer stadium followed by the Plaza de la Armada where we got nice views of the Rio de la Plata. I then walk through downtown Montevideo a bit before returning to the ship and sailing away in late afternoon. From: http://timvp.com

Independent online (SA) 2015-03-20Uruguay i/ˈjʊərəɡwaɪ/, officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, sometimes the Eastern Republic of Uruguay; (Spanish: República Oriental del Uruguay pronounced: [re̞ˈpuβ̞lika o̞ɾje̞n̪ˈt̪al̪ d̪e̞l uɾuˈɰwai̯]) is a country in the southeastern part of South America. It is home to 3.3 million people, of whom 1.8 million live in the capital Montevideo and its metropolitan area. An estimated 88% of the population are of European ancestry.
Except for the recent union of Timoteo Domínguez Island and Argentina's Martín García Island, Uruguay's only land border is with Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to the north. To the west lies the Uruguay River and the estuary of the Río de la Plata to the southwest. To the southeast lies the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean. With an area of approximately 176,000 square kilometres (68,000 sq mi), Uruguay is the second-smallest nation in South America by area, after Suriname.
Colonia del Sacramento, one of the oldest European settlements in the country, was founded by the Portuguese in 1680. Montevideo was founded by the Spanish in the early 18th century as a military stronghold. Uruguay won its independence in 1811–28 following a three-way struggle between the claims of Spain, Argentina and Brazil. It is a constitutional democracy, with a president who is both the head of state and the head of government.

Vuela conmigo
Siempre asi, estare contigo
Ven por me!
Vuela conmigo mi amor...
Canto del aire bajando el cerro
Murga en las calles y aun recuerdo
Y aunque no este yo me quedare en mi pueblo
