Burial arrangements for celebrated scholar and writer professor ali mazrui who died last week in binghamton, usa are complete.according to a member of the organising commitee, khelef khalifa, the remains of prof mazrui are expected at the moi international airport at 3.00 am tomorrow before being taken to his family home in old town prior to prayers at the masjid mbaruk mosque. Mazrui's remains will be interred at the mazrui graveyard along ndia kuu road near the fort jesus museum. Accompanying the body are his wife and children and close colleagues.former chief kadhi , sheikh hammad kassim will lead the funeral prayers.the mazrui graveyard belongs to the mazrui family who ruled mombasa in the 18th century and consists of an open graveyard surrounded by a wall made of coral blocks.century old baobab trees and other exotic trees dot the cemetery where prof. Mazrui’s parents , sophia binti suleiman mazrui and alamin bin ali mazrui are also buried. His family has said that it was mazrui’s wish to be buried at home, which is why his burial has failed to meet the traditional 24 hour deadlie for muslim burials.
