Shanghai General Motors Company Ltd (commonly known as Shanghai GM; Chinese: 上海通用汽车) is a joint venture between General Motors Company and SAIC Motor that manufactures and sells Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and Opel brand automobiles in mainland China. Shanghai GM was founded on June 12, 1997 with 50% investment each from each partner. Shanghai General Motors began assembling the venture's first vehicle, the Buick Regal, in Shanghai, China in 1999.

In 2003, China became the second largest single market for General Motors, selling 201,188 vehicles, an 81.6% percent increase over the previous year. That year Shanghai General Motors achieved a 13% market share in mainland China, second only to Volkswagen Group China among foreign carmakers. Sales dropped for 2004 when the company retired the Buick Sail. The release of the Buick Sail's replacement, the Chevrolet Sail, was delayed to February, 2005, knocking General Motors Shanghai to seventh place in mainland China market share. Shanghai General Motors market share climbed back to nearly 9.8 percent, placing Shanghai GM among the top three passenger car manufacturers in mainland China. Shanghai GM was the top passenger vehicle producer in China in 2006, with sales of 413,400 vehicles. In 2011, Shanghai GM sold 1,200,355 vehicles in the Chinese market. Shanghai GM is the largest joint venture GM has in China.

Shanghai is the largest city by population of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is one of the four province-level municipalities of the PRC, with a total population of over 23 million as of 2010. It is a global city, with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transport. It is a major financial center and the busiest container port in the world.

Located in the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China, Shanghai sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces to the west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.

Once a fishing and textiles town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to European recognition of its favorable port location and economic potential. The city was one of several opened to foreign trade following the British victory over China in the first opium war and the subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking which allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s. However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, the city's international influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.

Wentworth Earl Miller III (born June 2, 1972) is an American actor, model and screenwriter. He rose to stardom following his role as Michael Scofield in the Fox Network television series Prison Break.

Born in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, Miller is the son of American parents Joy Marie (née Palm), a special education teacher, and Wentworth Earl Miller II, a lawyer and teacher. Miller's father, a Rhodes Scholar, was studying at Oxford at the time of Miller's birth.

Miller is of multiracial origin: his father is of African-American, Jamaican, English, German, Jewish and Cherokee background, and his mother is of French, Dutch, Russian, Syrian and Lebanese ancestry.

His family moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York, when he was one year old. Miller retains dual citizenship. Wentworth has two sisters, Leigh and Gillian. He attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York, and was a member of SING!, an annual musical production that was started by Midwood. His family moved to Aleppo Township outside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Quaker Valley High School, in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania in 1990. He graduated from Princeton University completing his bachelor's degree in English Literature. While at Princeton, he performed with the a cappella group the Princeton Tigertones and was first a member of the Quadrangle Club, and later the Colonial Club.
