A monument is a type of structure either explicitly created to commemorate a person or important event or which has become important to a social group as a part of their remembrance of historic times or cultural heritage, or simply as an example of historic architecture. In English the word "monumental" is often used in reference to something of extraordinary size and power, as in monumental sculpture, but also to mean simply anything made to commemorate the dead, as a funerary monument or other example of funerary art. The word comes from the Latin "monere," which means 'to remind' or 'to warn.' The term is often used to describe any structure that is a significant and legally protected historic work, and many countries have equivalents of what is called in United Kingdom legislation a Scheduled Monument, which often include relatively recent buildings constructed for residential or industrial purposes, with no thought at the time that they would come to be regarded as "monuments".
Monuments have been created for thousands of years, and they are often the most durable and famous symbols of ancient civilizations. Prehistoric tumuli, dolmens, and similar structures have been created in a large number of prehistoric cultures across the world, and the many forms of monumental tombs of the more wealthy and powerful members of a society are often the source of much of our information and art from those cultures. As societies became organized on a larger scale, so monuments so large as to be difficult to destroy and the Egyptian Pyramids, the Greek Parthenon or the Moai of Easter Island have become symbols of their civilizations. In more recent times, monumental structures such as the Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower have become iconic emblems of modern nation-states. The term monumentality relates to the symbolic status and physical presence of a monument.
Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located on the Arizona-Utah state line (around 36°59′N 110°6′W / 36.983°N 110.1°W / 36.983; -110.1), near the Four Corners area. The valley lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation, and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163.
The area is part of the Colorado Plateau. The floor is largely siltstone of the Cutler Formation, or sand derived from it, deposited by the meandering rivers that carved the valley. The valley's vivid red color comes from iron oxide exposed in the weathered siltstone. The darker, blue-gray rocks in the valley get their color from manganese oxide.
The buttes are clearly stratified, with three principal layers. The lowest layer is Organ Rock shale, the middle de Chelly sandstone and the top layer is Moenkopi shale capped by Shinarump siltstone. The valley includes large stone structures including the famed Eye of the Sun.

There's a blind desire there's a drive
There's a need to leave some lasting feat
Something to hold, something to keep
A monument to complete
There's a written page there's a book
There's a search for something to say
Something to share, something to speak
A monument to convey
Is it fiction, is it confession
Is it passion or just a profession
Is it performance, is it expression
Is it passion or just an obsession
There's a photograph there's a frame
There's a time, a moment to confine
Something to save, something to see
A monument to enshrine
Is it performance, is it expression
Is it passion or just a profession
Is it fiction, is it confession
Is it passion or just an obsession
There's an empty room there's a blank page
There's a picture left incomplete
Something is lost, something remains
A monument to defeat
Is it fiction, is it confession
Is it passion or just a profession
Is it performance, is it expression
I never wrote you a love song
somehow words could not express what I needed to say
and so I never wrote you a love song
and now it's much, much too late 'cause you've gone away
But I will build this monument
to remember all the love we once had
and I'll close my eyes and make it how it used to be
I swear I never stopped loving you with everything I am
and it hurts so much to think you stopped loving me
you stopped loving me
So I wish that I'd had written you a love song
and somehow you understood what it feels to be me
becuase the Angel loves the sprite forever
and does it unconditionally
But I will build this monument
to remember all the love we once had
and I'll close my eyes and make it how it used to be
I swear I never stopped loving you with everything I am
and it hurts so much to think you stopped loving me
you stopped loving me
I met a lady in the meads
Full beautiful --- a faery's child;
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
And her eyes were wild.
I made a garland for her head,
And bracelets too, and fragrant zone;
She look'd at me as she did love,
And made sweet moan.
I set her on my pacing steed,
And nothing else saw all day long;
For sideways would she lean, and sing
A faery's song.
She found me roots of relish sweet,
And honey wild, and manna dew;
And sure in language strange she said,
'I love thee true.'
She took me to her elfin grot,
And there she wept and sighed full sore,
And there I shut her wild wild eyes
With kisses four.
And there she lulled me asleep,
And there I dream'd --- ah! woe betide! ---
The latest dream I ever dreamt
On the cold hill side.
I saw pale kings, and princes too,
Pale warriors, death-pale were they all;
They cried --- 'La Belle Dame sans Merci
Hath thee in thrall!'
I saw their starved lips in the gloam
With horrid warning gaped wide,
And I awoke, and found me here
On the cold hill side.
And this is why I sojourn here,
Alone and palely loitering;
Though the sedge is wither'd from the lake,
And no birds sing.
Aren't you going to come along?
Aren't you going to fight?
Aren't you going to hold your hands up to the light?
If you feel an emptiness, if you want to hide
Think about the blood that's pumping keeping you alive
We've got it all worked out, the plans all made
If we believe in the fight then we're all saved
It's gonna hurt for a while but it would anyway
Let us stand resolute with our voices raised
We have a right to insist to be free and brave
If that should cease to exist i'd throw my heart away
It's a long long way to the promised land
So try where you are, do what you can
You belong to what you understand
So teach yourself how to demand the monument that you deserve
For rising up in a beaten down world
Aren't you going to come along?
Aren't you going to fight?
Aren't you going to hold your hands up to the light?
If you feel an emptiness, if you want to hide
Think about the blood that's pumping keeping you alive
In between the shadows
Dormant in the cold
Lies hatred everafter
Just waiting to unfold
Drifting void
All dignity bereft
Empathy dead
All the dark cravings are suppressed
Thoughts
Of retribution
Instincts concealed
Charred remains of decay forlorn
Filled to the point
Of agony and pain
A submissive mind
By hatred gone insane
Feel the spirit of the darkened soul
Black as midnight on a moonless night
Feel the rebirth of the animal
Wise men guided by the moral light
Feel the power of the anger freed
Now unleashed through a primal scream
Feel the pain from these jagged teeth
The embodiment of a violent dream
Transcendental journey
Of bestial devastation
Transcendental journey of the damned
When the site was found

Don't build at night
You need a little light

So we picked up our tools
And we worked in the mornin' light
With the last stone placed
Wasn't it a wonderful site?
But it fell back down
And scattered all around
Anything passes
When you need some glasses
My monument
My monument
My monument, it fell down
My monument
Work all my days
For this kind of praise
My monument
Don't build at night
You need a little light
How else you're gonna see
What it's gonna be like?
My monument
My monument

And this is why I sojourn here,
Alone and palely loitering;
Though the sedge is wither'd from the lake,
When I walk through these doors.
I see the face from thousands of nights before.
And the light in their eyes makes it more than it's ever been before.
Our blood our sweat, and all of the tears that are shed.
Our blood, our sweat, and all the words we've said.
And the promises we've kept.
I see two paths that we can take and there's a choice.
Now we have to make it.
Now we have to face it.
Can you cut your heart out and walk away from all that you believe?
Well this world can't steal your dreams.
So join the voices building in this room.
These days save us from growing old to soon.
Every word of every song the past has wrote has become our anthem.
And when our pens meet paper we add to it ourselves.
When I look around I see something, something we can build on.
And it's only getting closer to everything we've ever hoped it could be.
Join the voices building in this room.
The only person that will kill it for you is you.
If you deny al the passion in this room.
So take a breath and try to see that the beauty of these days
And the freedom they can bring can carry through our lives.
If we just take that chance and we believe.
Is it fear, Is it fear
That you feel inside of you?
Is it fear?
Shouting out just fear
You feel inside of you
Is it fear that you feel
When all eyes are on you?
Is it fear?
Surely not just fear you feel
when all eyes are on you
Rise and rise
Rise above,
Rise and rise
Not just a girl
Not just a girl, not just a building
For the skyline
Not just a girl, not just a building
For our eyes
Not just a girl, not just a building
But a monument to love
Rise and rise
Rise above,
Rise and rise
We will never pull you down
No we shouldn't put you down
You're a monument to love
At the summer solstice you and I will gather round the
strong
We'll drink a toast from the cup of blood and realize the
truth
Come on now let's see what we can find beyond the stars
Release your soul and tear apart the chains of you heavy
load
Fire -Magick
We will find our peace of mind
Fire - Magick
We'll leave this tired world behind
At the summer solstice we will make a bond so strong and
true
Hates bodies swirling 'round the golden ripened corn
Come on now let the sacrifice but for all who know
That the Sun and Moon still rule our lives today and
evermore
Fire -Magick
We will find our peace of mind
Fire - Magick
We'll leave this tired world behind
Monument
Its not a dream, from witch I fell.
But I know I'm here.
I know why I'm here.
Not a dream, Liberty.
I have one soul, or maybe more.
A million thoughts,
Are flashing through my mind.
And the energy is killing me.
I cannot breathe.
And there's nothing to hold on to,
But you won't have to.
To where we fly,
To the end of reality.
Here I am,
Here with you all.
I know we all died,
But I can feel your warmth.
Now take my hands and see,
All the things you should have seen.
To forgive the bitter sins,
With all these bitter tears.
Not far away from me,
Closer and closer it gets.
The pain you feel, Is the pain you wear...
No more we shall cry,
In the lap of our own disguise.
Who will perish from this earth.
But never from our hearts.
For only they have won,
Who are named on this monument of peace.
"What I want I have,
Heaven
I am heaven as you are mine.
I am god as you are mine,
You are my god,
I am yours..."
Because we love you,
We return... TO ROCK YOU!
Be consumed
Because you... we want you
Workers are going home
Workers are going home
But once you've been alone...
And everybody knows...
Work begins alone
Workers are doing time
For you... there's nothing now but time
But once you cross the line
And everything is fine...
WORK STARTS IN THE MIND
What do we want?!?
HATE
...Do you wanna know why?
Because we love you,
We return... TO ROCK YOU!
OH, WHAT'S THE MATTER... LITTLE MAN?
UNCOMFORTABLY YOU BELIEVE
(we want you...)
OH, WHAT'S THE MATTER... LITTLE MAN?
We warned you...
So you have mercy, you know why now
Be consumed
Because you... we want you
Be consoled... be controlled
Drifting over fields of gold, I'm a monument or at least that old
The sun never shines on me, I'm a shadow myself and for others I might be
Catch your stare before you turn your head from my appearance, but I saw you stare
Afraid to see my face, afraid to see yourself reflected in my button-eyes
In a field of straws I pick the shortest ones
Harvest desire
Beside the lamenting wind nothing ever moves me, we kiss without breath
In the midst of a tight embrace, recall the famous phrase: "You too, my son?"
Eye for an eye, a stake for a spine, I'm the mirror that stands before you
Birds come picking at your eyes, come picking at your smile, just to remind you
The world ain't a pretty sight
In a field of straws I pick the shortest ones
Sowing a wish
Gazed into the sun
For far too long
Burned...
My eyes
Was I wrong to dream my dreams?
I've been holding my breath so long that I don't know how to breathe
Like an actor in a final scene, he falls down to the stage
Never convincing though as the audience stands and leaves
So no one ever sees that he never gets up again
And the curtains of the night will fall upon the sun
Bleeding with a smile, I try
To think of all the lies he swallowed
Pull the stake out of my heart
I won't forget
Never forgive
No excuse
No forgiveness
Was I wrong to believe in the virtue of man?
So blind that I never saw that the fields around me burned down to the ground
So I stand tall in a withered field once more
Rooted in the dirt, I'm bound
Yet my arms stretch to the sky where I belong
Morbid faces Their twisted face You'll live to regret this, this day Severing all the doubt Caustic evil You're nothing but a shadow of yourself bring down emotions A will to resist Mental distortion Agony persists Violence to aggression Psychotic madness Mortal persuasion A line of paranoia White harshness Believe, believe in destiny Swallow, swallow the lies A chance to ? Tighten the grip ? alive ? eradicate ? no no ? soul Contract emotions A will to resist Mental distortion Agony persists ? they start to construct Power against Power Where will it end ? [Chorus] ? twisted face You'll live to regret This day Caustic overtones Evil shadow you're nothing to me
[Chorus]
Windowsill, Paris, France
Cast a shadow of this chance
Hanging over Gare du Nord like I never asked for more
Statues on the building tops
Stooping for the fire we got
Heart's new incantation
Your face bared to the sheer moonlight
Time flies and I'm here to ride
Red lights, cars zoom past, New York had a heart attack
Screaming into a new world
Sunrise at Sacre Coeur, I turn to move into the church
Silence wraps around my head like everything I've never said
My heart is reeling, opening to let me in
New day's illumination
Will it rain then and drown this out?
I could die here and never be found out
Sweat freezes on my face
Moving forward from this place
Screaming into a new world
I'm not looking for answers at a time like this
I can feel this moment
For once let it come
Let it, oh God, let it come
Well, it's protect or sacrifice
Waste my time thinking twice
Redirect back to earth
I never knew less than a heartbreaker
Torn down monument
Never be the same again
My new destination
Struck down silhouette
Conscience fade to black
Burn out your blood so blessed in your military dress
Heaven's incandescent glow, honourable way to go
This era, this music, this scene
Our great monument to nothing
This glory, this sweat, this play
Makes no difference what we say
For every man stands a ghost
For every ghost stands a star
For every star stands a thought
And these accumulate somewhere
If God is the personification
Of the total of man's thought
Then I must be the reflection
Of all you have fought
This era, this music, this scene
Our great monument to nothing
This glory, this sweat, this play
makes no difference what we say
Look into a place that you dare not look
You'll find me staring back at you
A perfect reflection
Your mirror
Your representative
I am you
Here we stand all as one
Nothing said as we are done
But no matter what we do
I'm really gonna pack in this new job I do
It's gonna be the death of me
I went to a party of some girl that I knew
At least the alcohol was free
With all the family around
We couldn't find a common ground
And so we left with what we found
When we first came so
Where you been, where you been, where'd you go
Leaving me alone and feeling low
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I know that I don't earn one hundred points in bed
But will you love me anyway
It's just that there's so much going on in my head
That I don't know what to say
Your car rolled away out of sight
You can not leave without a fight
Okay you lose so we were right
I'm really gonna pack in this new job i do
It's gonna be the death of me
I went to a party of some girl that i knew
At least the alcohol was free
With all the family around
We couldn't find a common ground
And so we left with what we found
When we first came, so
Where you been, where you been, where'd you go?
Leavin' me alone and I'm feelin' low
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I know that I don't earn 100 points in bed
But will you love me anyway?
It's just there's so much goin on in my head
That I don't know what to say... say... say
Your car rolled away out of sight
You cannot leave without a fight
Ok you lose so we were right
When we first came, so
Where you been, where you been, where'd you go?
Leavin' me alone and I'm feelin' low
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I say, where you been, where you been, where'd you go?
Leavin me alone and i'm feelin low
I'm supposed to be the one you want
I'm supposed to be the one you want
Conquering time, conquer the world
Spreading death, screaming and pain
Sending our warriors ready to die
Thousands will kill and be slain
To build your monument
To build your monument
No repents,no regrets
It has to be done,to be done
To show the world who is in charge
'I am the immortal one'
Godlike, undead, steadfast,
eternal, holy, fame
Hallowed be thy name
A monument built with death and pain
Indestructable
Built on walls of blood
The battle is won, people enslaved
Cannot fodder for the next strike
Command and obey, no other choice
Subject to the emperor's reich
To build your monument
To build your monument
Hallowed be thy name
A monument built with death and pain
Indestructable
Built on walls of blood
Who cares - If soldiers have to die
Who cares - If blood is shed for a lie
Who cares - about the next to come,
When creating a monument for the 'one'
Eternity,pride and lust
Perverted killing - fun
Burning skies, bitterness
All for one,and only one
Godlike, undead, steadfast,
eternal, holy, fame
Hallowed be thy name
A monument built with death and pain
Hallowed be thy name
Indestructable
When the site was found
We laid the foundations down
It didn't take long before
They came back tumbling down
Don't build at night
You need a little light
How else you going to see
What it is going to be like!
So we picked up our tools
And we warked in the morning light
With the last stone placed
Wasn't it a wonderful sight
But it fell back down
And scattered all around
Anything passes
When you need glosses!
My monument it fell down
My monument it fell down
Wark all of my days for this kind of praise
It fell down
A monument of grievance
Stands proud and tall at night
For I am the deceiver
I'm the one who never died
Burn the light of treason
Stand proud and tall at night
For I am the deceiver
I'm the one who never died
I am the darkness
But I feigned to be the light
Now I'm the one that grieves
A septicemia of fear
The stones of tears I heave
Take off your mask, reveal the truth
Pretend that I can't see...
Don't be afraid now to open your eyes
The time is so right for you to realise
Uncover the madness, the bravest of tasks
Show me the face that is behind your mask
Cries of sin, a battle to see
I was the traitor now what will I be?
Fight the lies inside me
I got the message in my mailbox
Nobody goes to church no more
They're closing down your little altar
They've locked the sanctuary door
Don't fight it
Who can say that you didn't try
Don't fight it
Old soldiers never die
Where will I go to leave my offering
To think about how life's so queer
And listen to the little choir
The sermon I don't care to hear
Don't fight it
Who can say that it's not the end
Don't fight it
And if we don't meet again
I know somewhere a monument
Stands in the name of our love
Somewhere are monuments
Standing in the name of our love
I've seen such strange times
Seems like lifetimes
Sometimes good and sometimes bad
And I don't see how it could
Have been much different
So far and gone
Sleepwalk, wake or run
Come back or leave me out
You can leave me out
Last night I swore I saw her come to me in a dream
Like a storm forming
Father, will She come again?
I've seen the day conquer the night
Drifting with the wind like dawns curtain closing as it caves me in
So far and gone
(Salió sola)
Sleepwalk, wake and run
(Salió sola)
Come back or leave me out
You can leave me out
I thought I'd never see the day gone
It slipped away
Hello next century - next millennium hello
Should we be afraid
Should you be scared of mankind
A skin protects us but it will be a sieve
The pores will expand fantastic gates
We have the chance to survive or to die
A gateway predicts new ways
Spread out your arms - enjoy it
Spread out your minds - be afraid
You will sense the pressure
You will taste our filth
You will drop out of society
You will suffocate on the new light
maybe we should hope
We can pray - but to whom?
Icons are useless
Datafiles will help
In the true exclude the mentally-ill
Millennium means start all over again
Spread out your arms - enhoy it
Spread out your minds - be afraid
Carving into fresh stone as powder fills the air
A brick taken from the earth to show mankind a meaning
What has been missing for so many years
Wait till all eyes are open
This pedestal will change the world
And will lead you to a new beginning
This pedestal will change the world
And will lead you in a new direction.
Pacifists try to settle without a war
This is our war
This is our answer
This is our reply
Our monument
Our dreams will not die
This is our answer
This is our reply
Our monument
Our dreams will not die
With every piece withered away knowledge will show beneath
Blueish clouds arise through cracks billowing into the sky
Once seen by all kind it will bring absolute transition
Gazed upon as this sits high above everyone
This is our answer
This is our reply
Our monument
Our dreams will not die
This is our answer
This is our reply
Our monument
Our dreams will not die
Untouchable to all
Untouchable to all
Untouchable to all
Behold our monument
Untouchable to all
Perfect is the life of king
Father said to me
The life was mine when he died
Too young to rule an empire
But father never lied
Perfect was the life of king
Ignore my incestuous background
I was born of God
Gods don't die, why should I
I want to live forever
It's my divine right
But doubts begin to cloud my mind
Much has been written about
Father's immortality
If he hasn't died, where is he now?
Save me
I'm a victim of a mortal life
I want immortality in the memory of man
I'm only made of flesh and bone
I'll eventually die
Put my name on a body of stone
And my soul will rise
Save me
I'm a victim of a mortal life
I want immortality in the memory of man
Build me lasting monuments
Eternal forms of my name
Hide my rotting body
From the claws of decay
Leave me in my peaceful sleep
So I can dream of life
Perfect is the life of king
Father said to me
I dreamt I saw a monument
Erected in my name,
The mayor was there to cut the ribbon
Still nobody came
The pond was stocked with fishes
Hand selected, one-by-one,
Refreshments for a thousand sat there spoiling in the sun
Sculptors from italy,
Carving a marble me,
Incredibly lifelike hair,
Read the inscription there
Donated all his time,
Concocting silly rhymes,
And waiting for the dinner bell to chime
It was a snow-white edifice, all flecked
With gold and green
But when they pulled the curtain,
There was noone to be seen
The wind blew long and cold
Between the chairs arranged in rows,
The only thing upon them
Were the streamers and bows
Sculptors from italy,
Carving a marble me,
Incredibly lifelike hair,
Read the inscription there
Donated all his time,
Concocting silly rhymes,
And waiting for the dinner bell to chime
The mayor packed up his scissors,
And removed his beaver hat
He figured he should go,
The Veuve Clicquot had all gone flat
The keynote speaker took one lok and got back into the cab
His words already etched
Make a space for my body
Dig a hole
Push the sides apart
This is what I'm controlling
It's a moat
The inside that I carve
This will my monument
This will be a beacon when I'm gone
Gone, gone
When I'm gone
Gone, gone
When I'm gone
So that when the moment comes
I can say I did it all with love
Love, love
All with love
Love, love
All with love
Make a cast of my body
Pull back out
So that I can see
Let go of how you knew me
Let go of what I used to be
I will let this monument
Represent a moment of my life
Life, life
Of my life
Life, life
Of my life
I will let this monument
Represent a moment of my life
Life, life
Of my life
Life, life
Of my life
Make a cast of my body
Pull back out
So that I can see
Let go of how you knew me
Let go of what I used to be
[Wound:]
Inching closer
Corrupting my ambition,
Saw your wretched incarnation
[Scorn:]
Growing colder
Retire my frustration,
Turning fire into stone
[Disease:]
Decimation,
Biding time in apathy,
We partake in betrayal
[Monument:]
Invite destruction
Embrace sweet silence
I bury all
My inner sculpture
I hide all
So now you'll know exactly what it feels like
To be an obstacle in my way
You won't remain
You won't remain
Save your breath don't even speak
If you'll speak of change
'Cause you won't
You won't
Cut to the chase
Spare the lecture on what it takes
To make a man
'Cause you are weak and I'm strong
I will never falter
I'll stand my ground
You're a fake, a worthless coward
Your life won't mean anything
I will never falter
I'll stand my ground
You're a fake, a worthless coward
Your life won't mean anything
So now you'll know exactly what it feels like
To be an obstacle in my way
You won't remain
You won't remain
Let's set things straight, what's done is done
I never needed you
Tell me exactly who you think that you're kidding?
Everyone will be happy when they find that you're missing
You asked if we'd
Ever forget you
We've got our fingers crossed
Our fingers crossed
That's the danger in starting a fire
You'll never know how many bridges you'll burn
That's the danger in starting a fire
