78-year-old Masafumi Nagasaki is the sole resident of a tropical island located at the southern tip of Okinawa, Japan. He would rather obey the demands of nature than of another person, which is what led him to escape civilization and live on Sotobanari Island. We decided to go and find out exactly what kind of lifestyle he's leading, and why he chooses not to wear clothes.

VICE Meets The Men Behind "The Interview"
The following interview with the cast and creators of The Interview—Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Evan Goldberg—was conducted by VICE on December 9, two days before the world premiere of the film in Los Angeles.
At that time, hackers calling themselves the "Guardians of Peace" had compromised SONY servers and leaked a trove of sensitive emails that exposed and embarrassed senior company officials. Nonetheless, the film was still on track to be released on Christmas Day.
On December 16, a new threat from the hackers promised a 9/11-style attack if the film was released as planned, and within hours the major theater chains across the country

The Most Expensive Dog in the World: VICE INTL (China)
This year, a Tibetan Mastiff puppy reportedly sold for almost $2 million in China, making it the priciest dog ever purchased.
Originally domesticated as sheepherding guard dogs in the Tibetan Plateau, these large, puffy-haired, and extremely uncooperative canines are prized by wealthy Chinese for their alleged ferociousness (one zoo even tried to pass a Tibetan Mastiff off as a lion, according to some reports - http://dailym.ai/1xpFhsb). Over the past decade, Tibetan Mastiffs have become a status symbol for a growing class of new moneyed entrepreneurs. VICE China went to the the 2014 Yidu Tibetan Mastiff Fair in Tianjin to learn more.

The Senate Intelligence Committee has released a blistering, 500-page report on the CIA’s controversial detention and interrogation program, a document that committee chairwoman Dianne Feinstein said represents the most significant oversight effort in the history of the US Senate.
The $40 million, five-year study concluded that CIA officials exaggerated the value of the intelligence they gleaned from dozens of “high-value detainees” held at black site prisons, where they were subjected to so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” such as sleep deprivation and waterboardin

On November 4, 2014, the state of Alaska was faced with a Alaska measure to potentially make recreational marijuana legal. In this episode of Weediquette, we follow democracy in action through the eyes of Charlo Greene.
Greene became the firebrand folk hero of the "Yes on 2" movement after she famously quit her job as a news reporter on the air to run a cannabis club. VICE travels to Alaska to follow Charlo, and along the way we meet a cast of Alaskan natives who all have something at stake in this election.

The Islamic State, a hardline Sunni jihadist group that formerly had ties to al Qaeda, has conquered large swathes of Iraq and Syria. Previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group has announced its intention to reestablish the caliphate and has declared its leader, the shadowy Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as the caliph.
The lightning advances the Islamic State made across Syria and Iraq in June shocked the world. But it's not just the group's military victories that have garnered attention — it's also the pace with which its members have begun to carve o

Like anywhere else in the world, China love alcohol, and it's probably the best way to get someone in the country to open up. But, as many Chinese people are shy and introverted by nature, the nation's drinking culture is particularly important to understand if you wanna crack a few jokes with the locals.
VICE China brings MC Dawei—a Beijing-based rapper/city boy who can barely handle a couple shots—to China's hardest drinking areas in Yunnan, where the Wa people start drinking homemade liquor starting at 9AM everyday.

James Ho, Jimmy’s father, is widely recognized as Hong Kong’s very first local tattoo artist as he started inking foreign sailors as early as 1960s so if anything, Jimmy learnt everything from his old man.
Jimmy opened his first tattoo shop at the age of 14, followed by more than 40 years serving clients including film stars and local gangsters. We visited his shop in Portland Street, Mong Kok, to talk to the veteran about his glorious career and “the golden age of Hong Kong tattoo”,

Every day, America must find a place to park 5 billion gallons of human waste, and we're increasingly unable to find the space. We wake up in the morning, brush our teeth, and flush the toilet, thinking that the wastewater disappears into the center of the Earth. If only that were the case.
Between 8 AM and 9 AM each morning, the waste output of Manhattan's West Side swells from 70 million to 150 million gallons per day. This is known as "the big flush." The sewage will eventually end up on a NYC Department of Environmental Protection Sewage boat, which will take the sludge to

The black plague has broke out in Madagascar. In late 2013, a deadly outbreak of the plague hit small villages around the country killing dozens of people. Rumored to have taken root in overcrowded prisons, the disease has flourished amid Madagascar’s increasing poverty and poor waste management. Antibiotics to treat the disease have been developed and are available in most countries, but Madagascar’s rudimentary healthcare system has left a number of people stranded without care.
