The domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris), is a subspecies of the gray wolf (Canis lupus), a member of the Canidae family of the mammilian order Carnivora. The term "domestic dog" is generally used for both domesticated and feral varieties. The dog may have been the first animal to be domesticated, and has been the most widely kept working, hunting, and companion animal in human history. The word "dog" may also mean the male of a canine species, as opposed to the word "bitch" for the female of the species.
The present lineage of dogs was domesticated from gray wolves about 15,000 years ago. Remains of domesticated dogs have been found in Siberia and Belgium from about 33,000 years ago. None of these early domestication lineages seem to have survived the Last Glacial Maximum. Although mDNA suggest a split between dogs and wolves around 100,000 years ago no specimens predate 33,000 years ago that are clearly morphologically domesticated dog.
Dogs' value to early human hunter-gatherers led to them quickly becoming ubiquitous across world cultures. Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship, and, more recently, aiding handicapped individuals. This impact on human society has given them the nickname "Man's Best Friend" in the Western world. In some cultures, dogs are also source of meat. In 2001, there were estimated to be 400 million dogs in the world.

You'll no be permitted to play wi' it.::Trusty: But they're mighty sweet.::Jock: And very very soft.::Tramp: Just a cute little bundle... of trouble!
[about Tramp]::Peg: What a dog!
Lady: [Watching Trusty running and howling in his sleep] He's dreaming.::Jock: Aye, dreamin' of those bonnie bygone days when he and his grandfather were tracking criminals through the swamps.::Lady: They were?::Jock: But that was before...::Lady: Before what?::Jock: 'Tis time you knew the truth, lassie. It shouldn't have happened to a dog, but... well, Trusty has lost his sense of smell.::Lady: [Gasp] No!::Jock: Aye, but we must never let on that we know, lassie. It would break his poor heart.
[first lines]::Jim Dear: [Giving Darling a hatbox] It's for you, Darling. Merry Christmas.::Darling: Oh, Jim, dear. It's the one I was admiring, isn't it? Trimmed with ribbons?::Jim Dear: Well, it *has* a ribbon.::[the box is opened; inside is a puppy wearing a ribbon]::Darling: Oh, how sweet.::Jim Dear: You like her, Darling?::Darling: [hugging the puppy] Oh, I love her. What a perfectly beautiful little Lady.
Tramp: Just a cute little bundle... of trouble. Yeah, they scratch, pinch, pull ears... Aw, but shucks, any dog can take that. It's what they do to your happy home. Move it over, will ya, friend? Homewreckers, that's what they are!::Jock: Look here, laddie! Who are you to barge in?::Tramp: The voice of experience, buster. Just wait 'til Junior gets here. You feel the urge for a nice, comfortable scratch, and... "Put that dog out! He'll get fleas all over the baby!" You start barking at some strange mutt... [Barks] "Stop that racket, you'll wake the baby!" And then... then they hit you on the room and board department. Oh, remember those nice, juicy cuts of beef? Forget 'em. Leftover baby food. And that nice, warm bed by the fire? A leaky dog house.::Lady: Oh, dear!
Jock: Dinnae listen, lassie. No human is that cruel!::Trusty: Of course not, Miss Lady. Why, everybody knows a man's best friend is his human.::Tramp: [laughing] Oh, come on now, fellas! You haven't fallen for that old line, now have you?::Jock: Aye, and we've no need for mongr-r-rels and their r-r-radical ideas. Off with ya now! Off with ya! Off with ya!::Tramp: Okay, Sandy.::Jock: The name's Jock!::Tramp: Okay, Jock.::Jock: Heather Lad of Glencairn, to you!::Tramp: Okay, okay, okay! But remember this, Pigeon, a human heart has only so much room for love and affection. When a baby moves in, the dog moves out.
Aunt Sarah: What's going on down there?::[sees her cats acting as if hurt]::Aunt Sarah: Merciful heavens! My darlings! My precious pets! Oh, that wicked animal, attacking my poor, innocent little angels.
Tramp: [at the zoo] We better go through this place from A to Z. Apes? No, no, no use even asking them. They wouldn't understand.::Lady: They wouldn't?::Tramp: Uh-uh. Too closely related to humans. Oh-oh! Alligators. Now there's an idea!::[to the alligator about the muzzle]::Tramp: Say Al, do you suppose you could nip this contraption off for us?::Al the Alligator: [echoing] Glad to oblige...::[opens his huge mouth to snap off the muzzle, and Lady looks right into his jaws]::Tramp: Whoa! WHOA!::[pulls Lady away at the last second; a nearby hyena laughs at them]::Tramp: Huh. If anybody ever needed a muzzle, it's him.
Tramp: [preparing to leave] Well, friend, we'll be on our way now, so...::Beaver: Uh-uh-uh! Not so fast, sonny. [puts on the muzzle] I'll have to make certain it's satisfactory before we settle on a price.::Tramp: Oh, no. It's all yours, friend. You can keep it.::Beaver: I can, eh? [excitedly] I can?::Lady: Uh-huh. It's a free sample.::Beaver: [very pleased] Well, thanks a lot. Thanks ever so...::[he slips and falls, dragging the log along; they land in the pond, where the log fits neatly over the dam spillway]::Beaver: [proudly] Say! it works ssswell!
Lady: ...But when she put that horrible muzzle on me...::Tramp: Say no more, I get the whole picture. Aunts, cats, muzzles... Well, that what comes of tying yourself down to one family.::Lady: Haven't you a family?::Tramp: One for every day of the week. The point is, none of them have me.
Plot
Hungry alley cat Sylvester spots Tweety in his nest, which sits on a tree high atop a dog pound where numerous bulldogs reside. Among the best gags in this cartoon (and there's lots of them): Sylvester walks a light wire like a tightrope walker, only to have a collective doggy-breath blow him off; Sylvester using a swing to gain access to the tree, only to have the dogs join; the cat using hypnotism to stop the dogs dead in their tracks (Tweety tricks Sylvester into revealing the secret); Sylvester disguising himself as a dog; the dogs burrowing under the pound, having accurately anticipated that Sylvester will do the same; and the dogs waiting in the tree branches waiting for Sylvester to climb the tree. The best gag, however, is saved for last Sylvester paints a white stripe down his back to make the dogs think he's a skunk. That trick works too well, as it also attracts Pepe Le Pew, who desires to make love with the lisping puddy tat.

Plot
Tweety Bird moves into a city brownstone with his mistress, Granny. A stray Sylvester Cat watches them move in and delights on seeing Tweety. Another of Granny's pets is a bulldog who, as usual, complicates Sylvester's plan to sneak up close enough to make a grab for Tweety. Sylvester unsuccessfully tries all sorts of disguises, including a moving man, a lamp, a bearskin, and a female dog. He ends up being captured by the dog catcher and placed in the back of a truck surrounded by all sorts of snarling canines.

Plot
Bugs Bunny ends up at a dog race and decides to take in the show. However, the mechanical rabbit is released (for the dogs to follow), and Bugs falls head over heals in love with the "light brown hare"! Unfortunately, when Bugs sees all of the dogs chasing "that cute little bunny", he valiantly runs onto the track and starts to take down the dogs one by one! Things seem to be in the bag, unless you count a huge grey dog that isn't going to let Bugs stand in his way of winning!

Announcer: [covering the dog race] Wait a minute, there's another rabbit on the track... and he's chasing the dogs! This is unheard of! He's got Bill's Bunion by the tail! He steps on Bill's Bunion! He's out of it! There goes the rabbit. He lands on Pneumatic Tire. The dog can't see! He's running all over the track! He's heading for the wall! OW! Pneumatic Tire is flat! Now the rabbit leaps up into the air; he lands on Bride's Biscuit. The Biscuit is out of it. The rabbit is running and... oohh, what a tackle! That hurt! Motorman's Glove is down! The rabbit is off again! Now I've seen everything! [sound of gunshot]
Bugs Bunny: [Examining the dogs] Hmm, looks a little undernourished. Kind of inny-skay in the elly-bay. This one looks a little better. Kind of flabby, though. No muscle tone. This runt ain't got a chance. Ah, number 7! That's me lucky number. Looks pretty good. Better check his teeth, though. Come on, Lassie, open your mouth. Let's see those little toothies. Hmm. A little shadow on that bicuspidor. You better see a dentist.
Plot
The sycophantic newsreel reporter Lola Beverly wants Bugs Bunny's life story. The great Hollywood star tells of his humble beginnings in the tenements of Manhattan. We see poor Bugs terrorized by a gang of canine toughs led by a bullying bulldog who smokes a cigar and wears a derby and a turtleneck sweater. He's subjected to a cruel "dog pile on the rabbit," but our wily Bugs soon turns the tables on these toughs. Bugs subjects his main tormenter to pies in his face; a confusing performance in front of an Egyptian cigarette billboard; a fall from the top of a building; and an embarrassing entanglement in a series of clotheslines. Bugs Bunny finds his real saviors are Betty Smith and a book title calculated to win the heart of any New York bow-wow.

Bugs Bunny: [as Spike is hanging by his fingers on the clothesline, Bugs proceeds to loosen each finger] Mhm... this wittle piddy went to market... this wittle piddy stayed home... this wittle piggy had roast beef. [Spike falls] Well, what do you know, ran out of piddies! Gee, ain't I a stinker?
Bugs Bunny: What's up, dogs?
Bugs Bunny: Eh, what's up, dogs?::Dog #1: What is it?::Dog #2: Hey, maybe it's a giraffe, the giraffe!::Spike: Nah, that ain't no giraffe. A giraffe's got a long neck like this [Pulls on Bugs' neck] Hey, fellows, it's a rabbit.::Dog #1: Oh, a rabbit.::Spike: Dog pile on the rabbit!::Dogs: [as they all jump on top of Bugs] Dog pile on the rabbit! Dog pile on the rabbit! Dog pile on the rabbit!...::Bugs Bunny: [Hopping on top of the dog pile] Dog pile on the rabbit! Dog pile on the rabbit! Dog pile on the rabbit!
Bugs Bunny: Eh, whatcha looking for?::Spike: I'm looking for a rabbit.::Bugs Bunny: Did he had long ears, a fuzzy tail, and hop around like this? [Hops around]::Spike: Yeah, yeah. That's him.::Bugs Bunny: And is there a tough-looking mug chasing him, with a derby, [Puts on Spike's derby]... and a turtleneck sweater, [Puts on Spike's sweater]... and a big cigar, [Takes Spike's cigar]... and acts like this? [Acts like a bulldog]::Spike: Yeah, yeah. That he does.::Bugs Bunny: And when you ain't looking, does he let you have it like this? [Punches Spike]::Spike: Yeah, that's the guy! That's the... Hey, wait a minute! Which way did he go?::Bugs Bunny: Sorry, Mac. Haven't seen him.
Bugs Bunny: So there I was, trapped, overwhelmed by superior numbers.::Lola Beverly: My goodness, Bugs. How did you ever get out of that one?::Bugs Bunny: Well, I grabbed the nearest thing I could get my hands on, determined to make their victory a costly one.::[Flashback: Bugs grabs a book to throw at the dogs; the dogs see the cover and run across the Brooklyn Bridge; Bugs looks at the cover, which reads "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn"]::Bugs Bunny: Hey, you know? Maybe I ought to read this thing.
Bugs Bunny: [Spike has chased him into an automat] Hey, got a nickel, Mac?::Spike: Huh? Oh, yeah.::[Spike gives him a nickel]::Bugs Bunny: Thanks.::[Bugs gets a piece of pie and hits Spike in the face with it]::Bugs Bunny: Oh, I'm awfully sorry. I've made a terrible mistake. You wanted...::[hits him with another pie]::Bugs Bunny: ...cherry pie.
Plot
A cruise to Nome, Alaska, starts with some cruise-ship jokes: the ship pulls out of the harbor like a car, raising anchor also raises the front of the boat, the ship follows the coast by curving around it. On arrival, we see some local scenes: A penguin eats two fish, then is eaten by the third; the dogs of a dog sled stop (behind an iceberg) at a telephone pole; a timber wolf goes around shouting "Timber!" Two Eskimos rub noses: in preparation, the woman applies lipstick to her nose. Finally, an Eskimo nightclub (after all, the nights are six months long) features a rotoscoped ice skater. The ship leaves, and gets caught in the fog near New York; when the fog clears, we see the ship is perched atop the World's Fair Trilon.

I was hungry and I was cold , had a father far too old
Couldn't make it to the place he'd like to be
In a treetrunk in the park , he was living in the dark
Keeping other dogs like him for company
In the evening I'd go down to a nightclub in the town
Try to get some bread to make another way
Back to the park I'd go , dig him out of the snow
You know he's lived a thousand years day to day
Well , the days get shorter and the nights get longer
And you never learn to know
If you love one another , could you look at each other
Could it ever really show
And at this moment in time you couldn't make up your mind
Now could you ever understand
Are you following me just like Moses to the sea
Do you think I'll give you freedom in the end
When I'm long dead and gone will your love for me go on
Will I be the one you run to in the end
And all my dogs need a friend
It was a quarter to three in the summer of '73
When I heard somebody call outside my door
Said "Are you friend or are you foe"
He looked up and he said "no, but I'd like to come inside and know you more"
Well the days get shorter and the nights get longer

You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
And in the end you'll pack up, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer.
And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to loose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone
Dragged down by the stone.
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no-one has a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner
And everythings done under the sun
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer.
Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with collar and chain
Who was given a pat on the back
Who was breaking away from the pack
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was found dead on the phone
Here we are in confusion
Could be it's all an illusion
Who knows the times to come
The years to face, the race to run
We believe in graven image
We believe in the fight to the finish
We desire the almighty dollar
The pound of flesh, the golden collar
Lick the hand, we give our land to dogs
Here we are in the years
The blood, the sweat, the tears
Have made us bondage slaves
In a world that we never made,
The politicians lick our bones,
The tacticians, hearts of stone
They turn us against our brothers
Make us fight and kill each other
Locked in lust we put our trust in dogs
Here we are again,
The dead still look the same
Who cares they're soon forgotten
Nobody loves corpse that's rotten
Your fathers, mothers, daughters, sons
Have been taken by the chosen ones
But don't forget you made the choise,
You made your mark, you raised your voice,
They're all the same, you're all to blame
You're dogs
The first time we met you were a kennel maid,
You gave me a tip I got me forecast paid,
You were holding a greyhound in trap number one,
Your white coat was shining in the afternoon sun.
Now we're both together,
We're never gonna break apart, no no,
'Cause we're a happy couple you and me,
With a greyhound at either knee.
I'll have ten shillings to win on Camera Flash, young man,
What dog's that, it's a deuce, look at it.
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
We're a happy couple you and me,
With a greyhound at either knee.
We go to the dog track on Saturday night,
We put all our money on a dog that we like,
A kiss and a cuddle, a hot meat pie,
Two dollar tickets and a starry sky.
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
We're a happy couple you and me,
With a baby on either knee.
Yes it's you little darling,
Yes it's you little darling,
Now it's you little darling,
Now it's you.
Girl, where's me wage packet ?????,
Ah I'll put twenty-five knicker please on Gallop Printer,
Oh, I hope the wife don't find out,
Yes, it's sure to win, isn't it,
Yes, I know, it's a good dog, I saw it run at White City,
Just last week, broke the record, Gallop Printer,
Nice dog, yes, lovely form, lovely buttocks.

'Cause I'm a dog
I'm thinking that I'm gonna make it now
I said I'd give it a try
But the same old habits trickle down
And leave me hanging out to dry
But before I chose to do it all
I had to fine a new light
The dogs were great, but they were small
And I was the only one that they'd bite
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
The fire is burning hot tonight
I think I stay here inside
Calm my nerves and try to write
And shed my prejudiced pride
They're seemingly simple tasks to have
And yet they fill me with dread
Four legs good and two legs bad
Chase each other around in my head
If I'm not looking out for where I'm giving in
[Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh]
It'll be another hit I'll take on the chin
And when it heals and the scarring's started to fade
[Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh]
I'll go right back to where I tried to begin
If I can't stop it, no one can
It makes no sense to slow down
And one trip through my neighborhood
Can make me despise this town
As several people pass me by
I felt the ice in their eyes
And my reflection came to mind
And it forced me to realize
That if I'm not looking out for where I'm giving in
[Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh]
It'll be another hit I'll take on the chin
And when it heals and the scarring's started to fade
[Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh]
I'll go right back to where I tried to begin
I'm thinking that I'm gonna make it now
I said I'd give it a try
But the same old habits trickle down
And leave me hanging out to dry
But before I choose to do it all
I'll have to find some new light
[Ooh-ooh-ooh]
The dogs were great, but they were small
And I was the only one that they'd bite
The first time we met you were a kennel maid
You gave me a tip, I got me forecast paid
You were holding the greyhound in trap number one
Your white coat was shining in the afternoon sun
Now we're both together
We're never gonna break apart, no no
'Cause we're a happy couple you and me
With a greyhound at either knee
I'll have ten shillings to win on Camira Flash, young man
What dog's that? It's the Duke's dog, ennit
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer
Exceptin' you little darling, exceptin' you little darling
We're a happy couple you and me
With a greyhound at either knee
We go to the dog track on Saturday nights
We put all our money on a dog that we like
A kiss and a cuddle an' hot meat pie
Two dollar tickets and a starry sky
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer
Exceptin' you little darling, exceptin' you little darling
We're a happy couple you and me
With a baby at either knee
Yes it's you little darling
Yes it's you little darling
Now it's you little darling
Now it's you
Where's me wage packet? I need it
Ah I'll put twenty-five knicker please on yellow printer
Oh, I hope the wife don't find out
Yes, it's sure to win, isn't it?
Yes, I know, it's a good dog, I saw it run at White City
Just last week, broke the record, yellow printer

and she's always dressed in white
she's like an angel man she burns my eyes
when she turns she pulls a smile
we drive her 'round man she drives us wild
and she moves like a little girl
i become a child man she moves my world
and she gets splashed in paint and turns away and leaves me standing...
she lives with an orange tree and a girl that does yoga
got a wolf to keep her warm when he comes over
she gives he gets without giving anything to see
and the day it ends
and the day it
and the day it ends
and there's no need for me
with a girl that does yoga
when we come over
It's time to state your name
It's time to stake your claim
But it's not everyone else's problem
And it's not anyone else's fault
You wanna feel okay
You wanna think you've tried hard
But it's not everyone else's problem
And it's not anyone else's fault
I know it's important
To feel justified
I know you thought everything
Would be much easier
It's time to show your face
It's time to know yourself
'Cause it's not everyone else's problem
And it's not anyone else's fault
You wanna feel okay
You wanna think you've tried hard
I know it's important
To feel justified
I know you thought everything
Would be much easier
I heard it's getting windy so I'll set and watch you blow
I will chain you to my boat
I will carry you back home
And I won't say I love you cause it's all been said before
Let's not say it anymore
'cause love nothing here's for sure
They treat us like dogs
So we play along
We bark and we moan
And play them more songs
But when we blow away
And get out of this place
We go down like a shower
And up like a prince
I heard it's getting windy and we'll all be blown away
Did you tell me you're afraid?
Darling, you look so afraid
And I'm not sure what happens when everything here ends
But I hope it's like they said
And I hope it never ends
They treat us like gold
Dug up to be sold
We shine and we shake
Assuming our roles
But when we blow away
Up over this place
We go down like a shout
And up like a praise
I know it's hard to see me darling
Let your eyes adjust
If you go blind just trust
You are made out of my dust
I was made out of your dust
And the wind will carry us
In the ocean's evening dust
Up above the mountaintops
He/You will have the both of us
He Will have the both of us
My secrets end up on oil canvases
In a gallery for everyone to judge
When I lost everything you offered Jesus
Didn't seem like a fair trade at all
I'll keep my, i'll keep my promise to you
I'll keep my, i'll keep my promise to you
I'll keep my, i'll keep my promise to you
I will rock you like a baby, lover
Cradled in my arms
I will keep you safe from danger
Shelter you from harm
There will never be another lover
Who treats you like I do
We can drift into forever
On a love that?s made for two
Don?t you ever say this love's not special
Don?t you ever think it's not essential, baby
I was only thinking of you
Hoping you were thinking of me
Two hearts beating just like one
Against the world, baby
I am always dreaming of you
Hoping you are dreaming of me
I could never live
One day without your love
I will kiss you like an angel, baby
Cradled in my wings
I will take you up to heaven
Show you precious things
If you promise that you love me
If you promise that you care
I will be here for you always
And forever this I swear
Don?t you ever say this love's not special
Don?t you ever think it's not essential, baby
I was only thinking of you
Hoping you were thinking of me
Two hearts beating just like one
Against the world, baby
I am always dreaming of you
Hoping you are dreaming of me
I could never live one day
Without your love
Though you say you want a love
But you don?t think you believe it
Just open up your heart
And you know, you will receive it
Oh baby, baby
Don?t you ever say this love's not special, no
Don?t you ever think it's not essential, baby
I was only thinking of you
Hoping you were thinking of me
Two hearts beating just like one
Against the world, baby
I am only dreaming of you
Hoping you are dreaming of me
I could never live one day
Without your love
I was only, I was only, I was only thinkin' of you
I was only, I was only, I was only thinkin' of you
I was only, I was only, I was only thinkin' of you

And there's no need for me
The girls that does yoga
When we come over
You have opened my eyes
I don't wanna see the dogs and their hungry smiles
It's very sad, I wanna get out
I don't have to build a future out of dry food and bones
Or very soon, you can make me sit and roll over play dead
Would be so damn nice, I don't wanna be your dog for the rest of my life
Ohohoh
I'm all set to get out
I'm all set to get out of this voluntary cage
My future was made
I had a lot going my way, no way,
Always a serpentine smile, for the foolish grind
But then the sun sets suddenly nothing will remain the same
I'll keep this up until I feel the darkness is around me
Ohohoh
They are still around me, I can feel 'em coming
They are all around me and I'm going under
My, my, my
So beware, there is always something else we find to fear
It is not okay, it's a shame. I could blame it on the way we were raised
And if this is wrong
You can make me sit and roll over play dead
Would be so damn nice, I'll look back on my dog days as the best of my life
I'll keep it up until I feel the darkness is around me
Ohohoh
Have the virgins with their honesty... guarantee?
We move like vandals down darkened streets
And talk like dime store nobles
Shining blackness in our one track eye
Shining blackness in our one track mind
Shining blackness in our one track eyes
Just like grabbed by lightning corners
Just like cannibals, we must be starving...
With the jobless scandals of society, with their churlish retches
We want the graves and go for the bones
Of beloved ancestors and blessed saints
Deepest darkness in our blackened hearts
Got no time for you bleeding hearts
Deepest darkness in our blackened hearts
Got no time for you bleeding hearts
It comes with words of loneliness
It comes on nights of choruses
You're going to die and go straight to hell
You don't want to be the same
But all the other ships
Have sailed away
You can tell yourself
It's still okay
If it's illusions
You're looking for
You can wash yourself all day
You can't remove the stains of what you saw
You can turn and hide or walk away
But there's no running from who you are
I don't want to get caught
And blown away
Broken down
And torn apart
Like dogs, like dogs in the rain
All eyes look to the skies again
We've seen what's been sent
But you're all safely tucked up in bed
It's not our punishment
Oh they're not outside
No they're not outside
Oh yeah
I don't want to get caught or blown away
Broken down and set upon
Like dogs, like dogs in the rain
And the sun comes out again
Here on Earth’s kingdom, earthly seeds have flowered
Here we walk beneath the albatross of power
From Dreams of paradise a nightmare has been born
Enthralled to this vision amidst dogs we're thrown
This world is ruled by Dogs
This world is a haven for Dogs
This world is dreamt by Dogs
Having tired of dogs and thwarted by desire
I shall find a door and toward heaven aspire
Through rusted gates with wild vines overgrown
In the midst of heaven stands a barren throne
This world is a dream. A dream of control
With no God above and only Dogs below
This world is lie and Dogs shall not contain me
I'm on the road
I'm making plans
Dismiss this one-night misunderstanding
And if I fail
At least I tried
Out of this jail
I'll still be dreaming, yeah
I will dismiss this misunderstanding, like I don't even
no you
I won't miss this misunderstanding, you gotta glimpse
my korona
Oh what a bad boy
What a sad scene
Oh what a bad egg
Well what about me
Out of control
Misunderstood
Drop in the ocean
I never would
I want some way
And I'll you proud
And if I fail
Oh, I'll still be dreaming
I will dismiss this misunderstanding, like I don't even
no you
I won't miss this misunderstanding, you gotta glimpse
my korona
Oh what a bad boy
What a sad scene
Oh what a bad egg
Well what about-
They tar you with a brush
You're feathered like a thrush
You're stuck just like a stone in the mud
You're tired with the rough
You've had just about enough
You're stuck just like a stone in the mud, oh no no
You gotta glimpse my korona
Oh what a bad boy
What a sad scene
Oh what a bad egg
Enough about him, what about me
Enough about him, what a bad boy
Oh what a sad scene
Oh what a bad egg
We got four letter words with your name right one em
Hypocritical Oath, you took it with gusto
Your collagen smiles you love em likemoney
Your dirty little it doesn't run like clockword
We try not to run, try not to cry
They take you for a lift then they take you for a ride
No you can't sit still and let em have their day, the
City calls - Ruckin the night away
You don't let it fall appart
Their stabbin' little daggers right through your heart
Dont matter what they say
You got fashion nonsense, your off like mil
Our insufficient funds cause you no guilt
The coldest place in the betting shop
Is by the litter bin, you lost the lot
You try not to run
You try not to cry
No you can't sit still and let em have their day, the
City calls - Ruckin the night away
You don't let it fall appart
Their stabbin' little daggers right through your heart
Dont matter what they say
I'm not playng...
We're not playin'
You don't let it fall appart
Their stabbin' little daggers right through your heart
Dont matter what they say
Dont matter what they say
I've been alone seems like a month of mondays
Pick up the phone and conversation's one-way
I won't let nothing come between me and her
Now nothing's coming, I don't understand her
She leaves me, I suppose she's got a reason
I'm on the train against the window, sweating
Avert my gaze to lovers' heaving petting
And all I think about, I count on one finger
Why don't you ring her, why don't you ring her?
She leaves me, I suppose she's got a reason
She leaves me, she must have a reason
I dunno when they are, she doesn't seem to say
Will I swallow my guitar, will I wash the world away
Like a stone on the wall made of clay
I liked you better when you liked me as well
I liked you better when you liked me as well
She comes in colours that she won't let me see
She comes in colours and she goes with her back to me
She leaves me, I suppose she's got a reason
She leaves me, she must have a reason
And I dunno when they are, she doesn't seem to say
Will I swallow my guitar, will I wash the world away
Like a stone on the wall made of clay
Oh I can't decide
(ooh-ooh-ohh)
She leaves me
(ooh-ooh-ooh)
She leaves me
She won't come home
She leaves me
All alone
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
I liked you better
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
I liked you better (when you liked me aswell)
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
I liked you better when you liked me aswell
We think about making a score
We think about a little bit more
While you suffer our selfish ways
While I look at your selfish face
Oh we can't think of anything else
So you suffer us alone on your shelf
Then you whisper your selfless praise
While you suffer our selfish ways
Oh, I'm sorry but we've gotta breathe
And I know it's not easy
Through all of these days
You chose my selfish ways
Oh, I know I'm not so sure
And I might not be so pure
But through all of these days
You suffered my selfish ways
And you love it!
Darling, I'll bring you fire wood
But I will burn your house down
(And I will follow him
I'll take his wood away)
Darling, I'll bring you fire wood
But I will burn your house down
(And I will follow him down
I'll take his wood away)
Oh yeah, we think about making a score
And we think about a little bit more
While you suffer our selfish ways
While I look at your elfish face
Oh, we can't think of anything else
So you suffer us alone on the shelf
And I'd be better, I'd be better, I'd be better...
If you let go of my tether
Oh, my darling, I'll bring you fire wood
But I will burn your house down
(And I will follow him down
I'll take his wood away)
Darling, I'll bring you fire wood
But I will burn your house down
(And I will follow him down
I'll take his wood away)
To the ground.
Oh, I'm sorry
Yeah, I really am
If I cut your heart to ribbons
I'm not really that kind of man
But you love it!
Oh, my darling, I'll bring you fire wood
But I will burn your house down
(And I will follow him down
I'll take his wood away)
Darling, I'll bring you fire wood
But I will only let you down
(And I will follow him
Get out the way
I don't need you anymore
You're not my sweet sweet sixteen
I don't like it anymore
You catch me at my worst
But I try to get better
Or am I just a scruffy lad
Who remembers what he once had
Better get out the way
Better get out the way
It's alright to run away
It's alright to run away
What a wanker
What a wanker
I'm going away from here
I'm going away from here
It's not happy when a long relationship ends
It's not happy when a long relationship ends
Call me Ishmael
Call me what you want
Take that skin that you're beating
Would you rather not a drum...
Wanker
Too much coke
Broke another mirror
Shattered into ten of me
Not one see's any clearer
Better get out the way
Get the fuck out the way!
It's alright to run away
Oh, it's alright to run away
What a wanker
What a wanker
I'm going away from here
I'm going away from here
It's not happy when a long relationship ends
Fall
Fall amongst that clover
Roll amongst that clover
Spread your bones just like I told ya
That's where I
I found the love of my life
I found the love of my life
I found the love of my life
Don't hang
Don't hang yourself on that rope
Cut my veins and I'll cope
But don't hang yourself on that velvet rope
And when I fall
When I fall out of favor
Well I'm the Son not the Saviour
Well I'll be on my best behavior
Shed your load your donkey's come home
Shed your load your donkey's come home
Shed your load your donkey's come home
Shed your load your donkey's come home, come home
Shed your load your donkey's come home
Shed your load your donkey's come home
Come home
Come home
I'm half the man that i wanna be
But is the other half coming on quite fast
Will i wash that longing man away from me
Now this half's gone out for tea
There's nobody home, he's left the lights on
He's down the street singing abuse at everyone
And when the morning comes
It takes away his charms
It leaves him battered and bruised
Bloody and knackered and laughed upon
Yeh but he's chained to no-one
So it's a hangman yes i see
Well i'll take a 'J' a 'U' an 'N' a 'K' an 'I' a Hey i
dont
wanna play anyway
It's me yeh you know me
I could fall in love with anyone
But they should section you you nutter Napolean
And when the morning comes
It takes away his charms
It leaves him battered and bruised
Bloody and knackered and laughed upon
Yeh but he's chained to no-one
Oh no
What we gonna do
We got so much to do infront of us
So little to loose behing but re-print old news
And the louder that they whistle
The less we're gonna hear
For constantly we've got the call of the wild
Ringing in our ears
And we're chained to no-one
To no-one, no
So i'm hald the man that i wnna be
But is the other half coming on quite fast
I went an' burnt my bridges at the weekend,
An' now there's nothing left but another week to end,
An' a sick an' sunken soul in a drunken body like mine,
From London bridge I swim east along the tide.
She says I won't wait I won't wait,
An' now she tells me that she wants me,
She says I won't wait I won't wait,
An' now she tells me that she wants me,
An' won't ya take me home.
When battered heads dissemble and descend into a mess
upon the city,
When bleeding hearts awake from single beds and paint
themselves so very pretty,
Oh from London Bridge you know its not such a bad sight
oh no no.
Shuddered hard at those memories of those filthy nights
we spent,
I never wanted to be the one who just came and went,
Oh lover you know I can't afford your game,
Oh lover no I can't afford your game
She said,
When battered heads dissemble and descend into a mess
upon the city,
When bleeding hearts awake from single beds and paint
themselves so very pretty,
When you're just eighteen, you never win an' no it's
not right,
Well from London Bridge you know its not such a bad
sight.
Woahh, I won't wait I won't wait,
An' now she tells me that she wants me,
She says I won't wait, I won't wait,
An' now she tells me that she wants me,
And that she loves me, oh take me home,
Take me home, woah won't you take me home, come on take
You might see, snow drenched roof tops
A stalagtite falls to the alley like an arrow from
cupid
intoo yo, The world has stopped
And it's pretty as a picture
You might not notice
How cold it gets when the gin runs out and history
is born again
You can't even think
How you wanna be with her
Well here we are darling, Jam never tasted so good
Nothing ever felt so warm as you, above this old
world shop
With it's old world trinkets
But how dare we even think it
When there's a cardboard box
With shivering feet full of distant memories and
nearby fantasies
Of good heels and chasmere socks
There's a cold war on thee world
That's what i heard
I opened up
Told her i'm lonely
I said dont you know me
She said who're you talking to?
Her memory's faded
Irradicated
She's been infiltrated
But oh how i waited
Because i know there's something
I just can't get to it
I wasted years
How i held you near
I tasted fear
But how i helf you near
And i fought the combine
Until they let me outside
Here's to the lonely old soldiers
Gonna walk into the street
With the confidence of an apex predator
Gonna ask the first pretty girl i meet
If she fancies a trip to the west end cinema
I will sit her in the back row tell her what i know
Listen to her whispers share her shadow
I will fall into line with the evening tide
Ready present arms open wide
All my best laid plans, they might have to wait
'til tomorrow
Coz it's been an hour since i took off
And there's no pretty girls to speak of - ..Yeh right
How will i sit her in the back row tell her what i know
Listen to her whispers share her shadow
When i march 'round the corner into a post
What the hell am i doing must admit that i dont
know - i dont know
Here's to the lonely old soldiers
Here's to the lonely old soldiers
Here's to the lonely old soldiers
Here's to the lonely old soldiers
How will i sit her in the back row tell her what i
know - Listen to her whispers share her shadow
Will i sit her in a row bare my soul
Listen to her whispers share her shadow
We talk about a lot of things
We talk about all the things to come
We talk about going to sleep, about waking up
Now I've woken up
I never thought that it would hurt this much
I never thought it would hurt this much
No, but it did
We throw stones to the river bed
We take turns saying all the things we said
We got drunk on the beach
You're out of reach, oh...
I never thought that it would hurt this much
I never thought it would hurt this much
No, but it did
(Chorus)
Oh, wait don't leave me
I don't want to watch you go
No I don't want to watch you go
And what you never love you never know
We were in the basement
Staring up at the stars above us
You're out of place in there
You know I know, so why am I to blame?
I never thought that it would hurt this much
I never thought it would hurt this much
So I took her on the train
And I took her on a bus stop
And I took her on an aeroplane
We were thieves, friends then lovers and so much more
And I never thought that it would hurt this much
But it did
(Chorus)
D'you know I don't want to watch you go?
Oh no, I don't want to watch you...
Now that's done
I never thought that it would hurt this much
Never thought that it would hurt this much x3
I never thought it would hurt this much, no noooo
But it did, oooooh but it did, oh oooh oooooh...
Arrested by the water
Wearing many shades of strange
Carted off to the policeman
As your mum calls your name
But your gone...
And all he wants is to understand
Why your splintered heart and your modern hands
Say hello man you know she's great
I do all that I can though I somnambulate
I'm alright
I've been governed by a lover that I never could alter
Concinced I'd discover a new world order of light
It goes dark
It goes dark
It goes dark
I suffer from a lack of concentration (I just can't
seem to concentrate)
Still got faith in my generation (I hope you're coming
and won't be late)
My brain's just tuned to a different station (my
brain's all tuned to a different state)
And I miss you
I miss you
I miss you
Say hello man you know she's great
I do all that I can though I somnambulate
I'm alright
I got something over here
Something over there
Oh it's lucky we can breathe 'cause there's something
in the air tonight
It goes dark
It goes dark
It goes dark
I suffer from a lack of concentration (I just can't
seem to concentrate)
Still got faith in my generation (I hope you're coming
and won't be late)
My brain's just tuned to a different station (my
brain's all tuned to a different state)
And I miss you
I miss you
I miss you
It goes dark
It goes dark
It goes dark
Well
I suffer from a lack of concentration (I just can't
seem to concentrate)
Still got faith in my generation (I hope you're coming
and won't be late)
My brain's just tuned to a different station (my
brain's all tuned to a different state)
And I miss you
I miss you
When wind blows throught a smashed window
They've got regrets and no-where to go
With a smile on our faces
To the market place
We never had very innocent minds
For retribution we were two of a kind
When the college boys fired
Our conscience expired
It was alright to see them run away
It's always alright to see the boys again. RIGHT
Why'd they never learn
Is ignorance habitual
It makes your stomach turn
We'll get you on the way home
Now these young conservatives
Should have rusks and bibs
Not parliamentary futures
We got fruit that;ll suit yer
To top it all you get a pellet in the wall
Right next to your head
God help us all if they graduated
We swap stones for their lead
It was alright to see them run away
It's always alright to see the boys again. RIGHT
Why'd they never learn
Is ignorance habitual
It makes your stomach turn
We'll get you on the way home
This stone is abullet
This stone is a bullet, in our
Shit storm with the bullies
Shit storm with the bullies
Why'd they never learn
Is ignorance habitual
It makes your stomach turn
We'll get you on the way home
And why when we all freeze
Where'd ya get a coat like that
By the river through cobwebbed crannies we crawl
Up against them all
Under bridges and over graffitied walls
We sin and fall
All our craving our midnight ravings our love affairs
Were born right there
I swear
I dont know how it started
Or if it's ever gonna end
But ever since we parted
I've had a feeling that is
Strange
From the dirty old dealer in his bivouac
To the meadow by the river off the beaten trac
With a pocket full of poisen
We wont forget this one
To the bloody stained floors of the local casualty
With television eyes and a loss of dignity
To the boys in blue
What we gonna do
I dont
I dont know how it started
Or if its ever gonna end
But ever since we parted
I've ahad a feeling that is
Strange, strange
We grew up with this every day
But the smiley faces helped us out, in a way
We got broken bones, sick on the floor
A bloke who thinks he's a matador in the way
In our way
We got silhouetted, caught light headed in the field
Where we lay
And i hope your better mate coz i can't stop getting afraid
If you ok
We were by the river we've got cold steel legs and
shivering heads
At the thought of how we're coming down
We're getting out of this town
I dont
I dont kniow how it started
Or if it's ever gonna end
But ever since we parted
I've had a feeling that is
Strange, strange
Oh it's cold
Huddled beside you
There's no way out now
We're here and we're not certain how
Don't you feel the bass in the back of you throat?
If you listen to the way they're just so stoked
If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
Because you've got nothing to say
And this place reeks of no fun
If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
Home.
She's on fire
As I hung back, loose with the liars
They're like dogs
Panting and dragging their tongues
But that isn't the way that I roll
I'm so tired of this place, what we gonna do?
If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
Because you've got nothing to say
This is lame, this is no fun
If you don't think we should stay, lets just leave
Lets just go home
If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
Bad people happen to things like me.
I broke across the room in waves and drown you in your
dress.
Bad people happen to things like me.
Dogs appear and disappear.
Its push, push but we don't kiss.
Everything I say to you is code for something else.
Why do you make love like this?
I can see the subtlety, the rising sea, suddenly.
It's push, push, but we don't kiss.
Everything I say to you is code for something else.
Sleep master, sleep.
Erase something, erase something, erase something sweet.
Bad people happen to things like me.
Bad people happen to things like me.
I broke across the room in waves and drown you in your
dress.
You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
And in the end you'll pack, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer
And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest that you've sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it's too late to loose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down alone
Dragged down by the stone
I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake of this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no one had a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer
Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with collar and chain
Who was given a seat in the stand
Who was breaking away from the pack
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was found dead on the phone
