Gary is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. The city is in the southeastern portion of the Chicago metropolitan area and is 25 miles from downtown Chicago. The population is 80,294 at the 2010 census, making it the seventh-largest city in the state. It borders Lake Michigan and is known for its large steel mills and as the birthplace of the Jacksons singing family. Gary is adjacent to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
The city was founded in 1906 by the United States Steel Corporation as the home for its new plant. The city was named after the lawyer and founding chairman of U.S. Steel, Elbert Henry Gary.
Gary's fortunes have risen and fallen with those of the steel industry. The growth of the steel industry brought prosperity to the community. Broadway Avenue was known as a commercial center for the region. Department stores and architecturally significant movie houses were built in the downtown area and the Glen Park neighborhood.
In the 1960s, like many other American urban centers reliant on one particular industry, Gary entered a spiral of decline. Gary's decline was brought on by the growing overseas competitiveness in the steel industry, which had caused U.S. Steel to lay off many workers from the Gary area. As the city declined, crime increased.

Gary Webb (August 31, 1955 – December 10, 2004) was a Pulitzer prize-winning American investigative journalist.
Webb was best known for his 1996 "Dark Alliance" series of articles written for the San Jose Mercury News and later published as a book. In the three-part series, Webb investigated Nicaraguans linked to the CIA-backed Contras who had allegedly smuggled cocaine into the U.S. Their smuggled cocaine was distributed as crack cocaine in Los Angeles, with the profits funneled back to the Contras. Webb also alleged that this influx of Nicaraguan-supplied cocaine sparked, and significantly fueled, the widespread crack cocaine epidemic that swept through many U.S. cities during the 1980s. According to Webb, the CIA was aware of the cocaine transactions and the large shipments of drugs into the U.S. by Contra personnel. Webb charged that the Reagan administration shielded inner-city drug dealers from prosecution in order to raise money for the Contras, especially after Congress passed the Boland Amendment, which prohibited direct Contra funding.

In a magical land, in a magical town
Santa and his magic elves are hanging around
buiding magical toys for boys and girls
to deliever to the world and bring christmas joy
the reindeer and snug in their snow-covered stable
while Santa puts turkey on the dinner table
but a mile away, huddled in the snow
Gary sits scared as the artic winds blow
alone, on his own, forgotten and lost
surviving on roots and the permafrost
dreams of joining Santa's team filled Gary's head
and he'd walk by the stable
when they had all gone to bed
he'd tap on the glass, the reindeer would laugh
cutting Gary's self-esteem painfully in half
he was Rudolph's half-brother, unplanned, unwanted,
by his father's indiscretions
he would be forever haunted
Gary the green nose reindeer, reindeer
was of unexpected birth
but one year he saved Christmas
and he proved to them his worth
all of the other reindeer, reindeer
used to laugh and make him cry
they never let poor Gary, Gary
fly with them up in the sky
in a big dark castle, on the other side of town
Osama Bin Laden was wearing a frown
with a bat on his shoulder, decked in a black cape
he devised a new plan to make America shake
he said, "i'll destroy Christmas, here's what i'll do:
i'll kidnap poor Rudolph as 9/11 part 2
the west will quake when their holiday is gone
then i'll rule the world, like my name was Exxon"
he snuck into the stable, so he could steal
Rudolph and he left in his jihad mobile
Santa found out the news and he said "oh, dear,
Rudolphs gone, there will be no christmas this year"
the elves began to cry and the sky turned grey
then Gary heard the sobs walking by that day
he shared Rudolph's DNA and had something to say
he said "i can guide your sleigh
and make everything ok"
Santa said, "who are you?"
Gary said, "i'm Rudolph's half brother,
you can tell 'cause my nose is green, instead of red"
Santa said, "whatever, just put on this harness"
so then one happy Chirstmas eve
Santa came to say, say
"Gary, with your nose so green
won't you guide my Christmas sleigh?"
then all the reindeer loved him, loved him
and they shouted out "hurray!"
Gary the green nose reindeer, reindeer
thanks for saving Christmas day
And the toys were delivered across the world
bringing Christmas joy to every boy and girl
Osama was fed up and let Rudolph go
and the brothers reunited in the north pole snow
Rudolph said, "hey Gary, i'm sorry we laughed
and left you forgotten, like president Taft
we know it made you cry, we're sorry we were mean
we'd like you to join our reindeer team"
and that is how Christmas got its colors
from the red and green noses
of the reindeer brothers
you may see them flying high on Christmas eve
bringing gifts to little kids like Stacy and Steve
and Dennis and Cindy and Claire and Louise
Playstation 2s and Greenday cds
but nada for Osama as they say in espanol
no Gamecubes in his stocking
now Santa brings him coal
Gary the green nose reindeer, reindeer
was of unexpected birth
but one year he saved Christmas
and he proved to them his worth
all of the other reindeer, reindeer
used to laugh and make him cry
they never let poor Gary, Gary
fly with them up in the sky
so then one happy Christmas eve
Santa came to say, say
"Gary, with your nose so green
won't you guide my Christmas sleigh?"
then all the reindeer loved him, loved him
and they shouted out "hurray!"
Gary the green nose reindeer, reindeer
The jays sing
as the morning approaches
just like any other day
my state of mind is still the same
Im ok
I am ok
Blame it on me blame it on me
Its good for us
Blame it on me, blame it on me, its good
That is the difference you know what is going on
That is the difference you know what is going on
You know
You know
That its the only excuse that I have to offer
Well its the only excuse that I have to offer
You know
You know
You know
If you dont want me here
If you dont want me here
If you dont want me here
If you dont want me here
If you dont want me here
Yeah, I disappear
I disappear
That is the difference, you know what is going on
That is the difference, you know what is going on
You know
You know
That is the only excuse, that I have to offer
Well, its the only excuse, that I have to offer
You know
You know
You know
Smiles crash in on me
i can't feel what i see
don't wanna hear the "are you ok?"s anymore
what are they for?
what are they for?
what are they?
(chorus)
green trees are falling down on me
blue sky as far as I can see
and i'm free to be, free to be, free to be.
i stumble past the buildings i don't know
they show no interest in where i go
i wish i would've left by three
nothing new for the young, satisfy me, satisfy me.
chorus x2
i can't unfight my tears
you still fight your fears
let's pretend we feel no sorrow
act as if there's no tomorrow, no tomorrow, no tomorrow
chorus x2
(yes I wanna be)
chorus.
Hey how are you?
How is your girlfriend?
Is she feelin' allright?
I know I promised,
not to call late at night.
Just wanna to let you know:
I'm feelin' allright!
(chorus)
I'll be back in the winter.
I'll be back in the winter.
I'm your december son.
I'm your december son.
I'm growing tired,
counted chances I've blown.
Spend too much time on this telephone.
Watchin' the snow melt,
in the afternoon.
Just gotta pass some days,
and I'll be commin'home soon.
(chrous)
I wish you could see through my eyes,
for one day!
'cause I always wonder
what you say
(chorus)
In the december sun.
In the december sun.
I'm your december son.
I'm your december son.
I am wide awake
you`re still in your room
outside it`s getting dark again
it`salways the same
I need you
to watch me fall asleep
I need you
`cos I'm into deep
it`s not that unique
seven days are still a week
We have monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday and the weekend
oh ohoho
yeah and the weekend
oh ohoho
6X we`re following a neverending
we're following a neverending story
i need you
to watch me fall asleep
i need you
`cos i`m into deep
it` s not that unique
seven days are still a week
we have monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday and the weekend
oh ohoho
yeah and the weekend
oh ohoho
its not that unique
seven days are still a week
Centre things in certain ways
certain things centre me on certain days
certainly hangover mind can't find the words i wanna say
i guess today is something like an impossible day
was it worth it?
was it worth it?
i see images of you in my wakening moments
as i slightly shiver i reach for your hands
everything i live seems so unreal
it's just sorrow even, you seem to know what I feel
was it worth it?
was it worth it?
forget my words
forget my words
it was worth it
impossible day
impossible day
impossible day
it was worth it
Today I am quite desperate
Maybe I just wanna be taken serious
And did you find that hard
I hid under your pillow
Your pillow
How did you become so modest
How did I become so narrow
Why didnt I read
About the history of the sheep
See it another way
But dont leave me blind
No dont leave me blind
Today things are quite unfortunate
You are way too tired
I am way too drunk
Too drunk
Maybe its better that we both (???)
Tomorrow will belong to us
Crashing into my (lairy??) trap door of every trap door
Where the destination's (???)
Why didnt I read
About the history of the sheep
See it another way
But dont leave me blind
No dont leave me blind
