Plot
Elizabeth's heart is broken. For solace, she drops in late at night a few times at Jeremy's diner for blueberry pie a la mode; they talk. Once, he watchers her sleep, her head on the counter. Abruptly, she leaves New York City to get away from her pain. She works a couple of jobs in Memphis. There, a heart-broken cop is drinking himself into oblivion, his ex occasionally showing up where he drinks and Lizzy works. Then, she's in Nevada, working at a casino where she uses her savings (she wants a car) to stake Leslie, a busted gambler, in a high rollers' game. After, Beth drives Leslie to Vegas where Leslie's estranged father lives. Broken relationships. What about Jeremy?

How do you say goodbye to someone you can't imagine living without?
Elizabeth: So what's wrong with the Blueberry Pie?::Jeremy: There's nothing wrong with the Blueberry Pie, just people make other choices. You can't blame the Blueberry Pie, it's just... no one wants it.::Elizabeth: Wait! I want a piece.
Elizabeth: Why do you keep them? You should just throw them out.::Jeremy: No. No, I couldn't do that.::Elizabeth: Why not?::Jeremy: If I threw these keys away then those doors would be closed forever and that shouldn't be up to me to decide, should it?::Elizabeth: I guess I'm just looking for a reason.::Jeremy: From my observations, sometimes it's better off not knowing, and other times there's no reason to be found.::Elizabeth: Everything has a reason.::Jeremy: Hmm. It's like these pies and cakes. At the end of every night, the cheesecake and the apple pie are always completely gone. The peach cobbler and the chocolate mousse cake are nearly finished... but there's always a whole blueberry pie left untouched.::Elizabeth: So what's wrong with the blueberry pie?::Jeremy: There's nothing wrong with the blueberry pie. Just... people make other choices. You can't blame the blueberry pie, just... no one wants it.
Elizabeth: [wiping her tears] How do you say goodbye to someone you can't imagine living without? I didn't say goodbye. [pause] I didn't say anything. I just walked away.
[last lines]::Elizabeth: It took me nearly a year to get here. It wasn't so hard to cross that street after all, it all depends on who's waiting for you on the other side.
Katya: Sometimes, even if you have the keys those doors still can't be opened. Can they?::Jeremy: Even if the door is open, the person you're looking for may not be there, Katya.
Jeremy: A few years ago, I had a dream. It began in the summer and was over by the following spring. In between, there were as many unhappy nights as there were happy days. Most of them took place in this café. And then one night, a door slammed and the dream was over.
Leslie: You're hopeless...::Elizabeth: You're hopeless too!
Elizabeth: When you're gone, all that is left behind are the memories you created in other people's lives or just a couple of items on a bill.
Leslie: Sometimes your rhythm's off, you read the person right but still do the wrong thing.::Elizabeth: Because you trust them?::Leslie: Because you can't even trust yourself.
Elizabeth: The last few days, I've been learning not to trust people and I'm glad I've failed. Sometimes we depend on other people as a mirror to define us and tell us who we are and each reflection makes me like myself a little more.
Plot

Russian sub captain defects, goal of taking it to the U.S.A. to prevent the Russians from using the sub to wreak nuclear (missile) war against the U.S. Lots of plot turns and twists in this high-tech thriller.

Invisible. Silent. Stolen.
The hunt is on.
Jeffrey Pelt: Mr. Ambassador, you have nearly a hundred naval vessels operating in the North Atlantic right now. Your aircraft has dropped enough sonar buoys so that a man could walk from Greenland to Iceland to Scotland without getting his feet wet. Now, shall we dispense with the bull?::Ambassador Lysenko: You make your point as delicately as ever, Mr. Pelt.
Helicopter Pilot: Fuel status says we turn back now.::Jack Ryan: Wait a minute. Fuel status? You have a reserve, don't you?::Helicopter Pilot: Yes, sir. I've got a ten minute reserve... but I'm not allowed to invade that except in time of war.::Jack Ryan: Listen, mister, if you don't get me on board that goddamn submarine, that just might be what you'll have! You got me? Now you have ten more minutes' worth of fuel, we stay here ten more minutes!
Capt. Vasili Borodin: I will live in Montana. And I will marry a round American woman and raise rabbits, and she will cook them for me. And I will have a pickup truck... maybe even a "recreational vehicle." And drive from state to state. Do they let you do that?::Captain Ramius: I suppose.::Capt. Vasili Borodin: No papers?::Captain Ramius: No papers, state to state.::Capt. Vasili Borodin: Well then, in winter I will live in... Arizona. Actually, I think I will need two wives.::Captain Ramius: Oh, at least.
Watson: Y'know, I seen me a mermaid once. I even seen me a shark eat an octopus. But I ain't never seen no phantom Russian submarine.
Capt. Bart Mancuso: How did you know that his next turn would be to starboard?::Jack Ryan: I didn't. I had a 50/50 chance. I needed a break. Sorry.::Capt. Bart Mancuso: That's all right, Mr Ryan. My Morse is so rusty, I could be sending him dimensions on Playmate of the Month.
Captain Ramius: We will pass through the American patrols, past their sonar nets, and lay off their largest city, and listen to their rock and roll... while we conduct missile drills.
Jeffrey Pelt: It would be well for your government to consider that having your ships and ours, your aircraft and ours, in such proximity... is inherently DANGEROUS. Wars have begun that way, Mr. Ambassador.
[a torpedo is racing toward them]::Capt. Vasili Borodin: Torpedo impact, 20 seconds.::Captain Ramius: [to Ryan] What books?::Jack Ryan: Pardon me?::Captain Ramius: What books did you write?::Jack Ryan: I wrote a biography of, of Admiral Halsey, called "The Fighting Sailor", about, uh, naval combat tactics...::Captain Ramius: I know this book!::Capt. Vasili Borodin: Torpedo impact...::Captain Ramius: Your conclusions were all wrong, Ryan...::Capt. Vasili Borodin: ...10 seconds.::Captain Ramius: ...Halsey acted stupidly.
Captain Davenport: What's he going to do, sail into New York, pop the hatch, and say "Here I am"?::Jack Ryan: It might be just that simple, yes.
Captain Ramius: You're afraid of our fleet. Well, you should be. Personally, I'd give us one chance in three. More tea anyone?

Sunglasses or sun glasses are a form of protective eyewear designed primarily to prevent bright sunlight and high-energy visible light from damaging or discomforting the eyes. They can sometimes also function as a visual aid, as variously termed spectacles or glasses exist, featuring lenses that are colored, polarised or darkened. In the early 20th century they were also known as sun cheaters (cheaters being an American slang term for glasses).
Most people find direct sunlight too bright for comfort during outdoor activities. Healthcare professionals recommend eye protection whenever the sun comes out to protect the eyes from ultraviolet radiation (UV) and blue light, which can cause several serious eye problems. Sunglasses have long been associated with celebrities and film actors primarily from a desire to mask their identity. Since the 1940s sunglasses have been popular as a fashion accessory, especially on the beach.
In prehistoric and historic time, Inuit peoples wore flattened walrus ivory "glasses," looking through narrow slits to block harmful reflected rays of the sun.
Tracey Ullman (born 30 December 1959) is a British stage and television actress, comedienne, singer, dancer, director, screenwriter and author.
Her early appearances were on British TV sketch comedy shows A Kick Up the Eighties (with Rik Mayall and Miriam Margolyes) and Three of a Kind (with Lenny Henry and David Copperfield). After a brief but high-profile singing career, she appeared as Candice Valentine in Girls On Top with Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
She emigrated from the UK to the US and created her own network television series, The Tracey Ullman Show, from 1987 until 1990, from which The Simpsons was spun off in 1989. She later produced programmes for HBO, including Tracey Takes On... (1996–1999), for which she has won numerous awards. She has also appeared in several feature films. Ullman's most recent sketch comedy series, Tracey Ullman's State of the Union, ran from 2008 to 2010 on Showtime.
Christine Ellen "Chrissie" Hynde (born 7 September 1951Akron, Ohio) is an American musician best known as the leader of the rock/new wave band the Pretenders. She is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, and has been the only constant member of the band throughout its history.
Hynde is the daughter of a part-time secretary and a Yellow Pages manager. She graduated from Firestone High School in Akron, Ohio. She stated that "I was never too interested in high school. I mean, I never went to a dance, I never went out on a date, I never went steady. It became pretty awful for me. Except, of course, I could go see bands, and that was the kick. I used to go to Cleveland just to see any band. So I was in love a lot of the time, but mostly with guys in bands that I had never met. For me, knowing that Brian Jones was out there, and later that Iggy Pop was out there, made it kind of hard for me to get too interested in the guys that were around me. I had, uh, bigger things in mind."
Hynde was for some time interested in hippie counterculture, eastern mysticism, and vegetarianism. While attending Kent State University's Art School for three years, she joined a band called Sat. Sun. Mat., which included Mark Mothersbaugh, later of Devo (Hynde was on the campus during the infamous Kent State shootings; she knew Jeffrey Miller, one of those killed[citation needed].)

So I can, so I can
Keep track of visions in my eyes
Repeat 1
Yo pretty feisty ain't she, eighteen she can't be
Heard he was some broad getting over then that ain't me
Cause I'm that broad that their broads tell more broads about
And on their mouths is the mouths my name won't stay out
Big benjamining in the slimming
And see me, I keeps in it
Chrome spinning window tinted
I can see me all up in it
It's only summer I have him moving out before fall
How the misses gon' let the mistress steal dough from y'all?
Have him taking me to the places he don't go with y'all
Be the one he sneak and call when he out with y'all
Come on y'all gotta admit it's kind of good to be young
Got his whip, got him whipped, and she don't know what's going on
Yeah I ran that bank account, spent everything in it
Took the credit cards, pushed the Visa to the limit
She be so nieve too the things you believe boo
If I was you I'd be rocking these sunglasses too, come on
Repeat 1
I see this industry gon' love me or hate me
But y'all aren't fans, ain't gonna make me or break me
It takes you a year to get a hit I can't relate see
Cause what you doing in minutes, seconds it takes me
Ain't got no choice so take your verbal spanking like a troop
We're all actors and I'm whooping your whole cast and crew

To rip this mic until I'm out of breath or black or blue
This is going out to all your rappers who be acting new
Give me my props or I'mma take them like a rapist do
And why you females hatin' me cause I ain't hatin' you?
I'll take your man for a second but I'll give him back to you
Ain't trying to keep him every state have a him and you
If you were in these sneaker shoes you would do it too
So understand y'all just got picked out of the chosen few
But he gon' always gonna think of me when he holding you
What'cha wanna do? Come on

Moving that kind of weight, getting them kind of ends

In front all you men, I rock these shades for all you men
Opened up my eyes to see everybodys watchin me
I just wanna try to gage the crowd
They turned into moonlight, getting lost into the night life
I lose control when I feel that heavy sound

I feel so sorry I broke your sunglasses
I'm starting to worry it's never felt as sore as this
But please don't think that anything I say
Is based on a cruel intention or betrayal
'Cause I started to shine and shine
And you were defenseless
Oh, the fault is mine
I should never have said this
I love you
I love you
More than I think I can
It is completely understandable to be
Completely low and truly mad at me
So please remember everything I say
Is based on a cruel intention and betrayal
'Cause I started to shine and shine
When you were defenseless
Oh, the fault is mine
I should never have said this
I love you
I love you
