Volkswagen bus
2011 san diego international auto show the volkswagen bus provided by the san diego air cooled syndicate and strictly vintage 2's. these bus were very cool with all the trick stuff. The Volkswagen Type 2, officially known as the Transporter or informally as Bus, was a panel van introduced in 1950 by German automaker Volkswagen as its second car model — following and initially deriving from Volkswagen's first model, the Type 1 (Beetle). As one of the forerunners of the modern cargo and passenger van, The Type 2 gave rise to competitors in the United States and Europe, including the Ford Econoline, Dodge A100, and the Corvair 95 Corvan, the latter adopting the Type 2's rear-engine configuration. As of January 2010[update], updated versions of the Type 2 remain in production international markets — as a passenger van, cargo van, and as a pickup truck. Like the Beetle, the van has received numerous nicknames worldwide, includiing the "microbus", "minibus",[1] "kombi" and, due to its popularity during the counterculture movement of the 1960s, "hippie van". The concept for the Type 2 is credited to Dutch Volkswagen importer Ben Pon. (It has similarities in concept to the 1920s Rumpler Tropfenwagen and 1930s Dymaxion car by Buckminster Fuller, neither of which reached production.) Pon visited Wolfsburg in 1946, intending to purchase Type 1s for import to Holland, where he saw an improvised parts-mover and realized something better was possible, using the stock Type 1 pan.[2] He ...

VW Microbus Concept
2001 GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: MICROBUS CONCEPT A design study for the world of tomorrow as a homage to a great tradition Wolfsburg / Geneva, 27 February 2001. Volkswagen is showing the concept car "Microbus" as a European premiere at the 71st International Geneva Motor Show. The bus of the future was designed in the Volkswagen design studio in California especially for the US market. With its original design and numerous innovative ideas, the Microbus harks back to a great tradition, starting in 1950 with the first VW bus. This Volkswagen was successful worldwide and reached cult status, especially in the USA, with the name Microbus. The design study is a new definition of this cult status:A contemporary expression of personality and freedom. Against the backdrop of both the legendary first VW Bus generation - whose design is still, especially in the USA, known and loved today - and the form of the Beetle and the New Beetle, the design study is not a simple copy of the original bus. Our aim was to create another Volkswagen original, which was to pay homage to a great history in its own independent visionary way. The innovative Californian design team has succeeded in doing just this. This independence is demonstrated on the Microbus by the striking front end with particularly thin-line Xenon headlights, the design of the side windows and the large sliding doors. They open and close electronically at the push of a button. A dynamic appearance is guaranteed by the wide wheel ...

Oxford Diecast VW Volkswagen Microbus Camper Van (OO Gauge) Review HD
This is my review of the Oxford Diecast VW Volkswagen Microbus Camper Van in the "Pastel White" colour and this model like with the other ODC models that I have reviewed in the past is made to OO gauge scale making it perfect for model railways. The detail is excellent throughout complete with all the features like the lights and decals which have been nicely picked out. This model also has two surfboards mounted on top of the camper with a roof rack. The VW badge along with the small grills are present on this model and the pillars on the windows are picked out as well which makes this a very model. I would have liked to have seen wing mirrors on the model but for the detail you get for the price, its a great model to have on the model railway if you model in OO gauge. Overall Rating: 9/10.

Ep-04 Plasma Cutting the 1974 VW microbus donor for the GM engine & suspension on Minerva
We bought a 1974 VW mini-bus very similar to Minerva, which is a 1972 Westy. Initially, we figured this would double as a "donor vehicle" from which we could transplant body panels. Upon further inspection, we ended up finding hidden rust on this one too and almost as much body filler (mud) in some areas as was on Minerva. Thankfully, the primary reason we bought this was to test for fitment of the new engine and suspension. There is no manual for putting a 2009 front wheel drive engine in a 1972 VW rear wheel drive bus so a lot of this is uncharted territory... it called for 'educated experimentation'. We're doing this on the '74 bus so that we can make mistakes on IT and do as little cutting and modification as possible on Minerva. To start, we used a plasma cutter to amputate the existing suspension and frame rails to make room for the new driveline. We also used a pneumatic body saw to remove the roof of the engine housing, on top of which sat the conversion bed "mattress". This will need to be shifted a few inches up and forward in the final cuts on Minerva. Everything fits for the most part... the tires are touching the wheel wells ever so slightly, so we're looking into shorter half shafts (aka constant velocity axles or "CV axles). The next steps will be to build a custom frame complete with engine and suspension mounts... we're also having a custom fuel cell made - similar to what you'd find in race cars. Replacing clutch disc VW bus 1971 Rosie, pulling motor Volkswagen Camper
Another Tech Day for G'ville Classic VW Club. After removing bumper, then rear apron, we removed the engine, and clutch! All went back together, too! Lost my video camera, so has some friends filming it. Starts off slow with us removing the bumpers and then rear apron. Didn't get to film the engine removal. Had to keep making room for more memory on the phone cameras. Shows before and after. Got most of our clutch work filmed. The oil seal inside behind flywheel is easy to do, just use a 17mm and get to it. We used a flathead to pry out the old seal, and the old seal to beat on to get new one in nicely. We had fun, and learned some. Enjoy the vid! With some VW music in background. Check out some of my other VW videos for more. Check me out on The Samba if you're there: www.thesamba.com Hope you enjoyed, if you did, give a thumbs up! Feel free to comment. Happy VeeDubbing! Ep-06 CollisionMax Gives a 1972 Volkswagen Microbus (Minerva) Door Skins and Front Nose
We had to record the introduction at CollisionMax headquarters in Trevose, PA because Hurricane Sandy prevented us from getting into South Jersey. Minerva and The SuperCenter were both undamaged but we lost a few days of progress due to the storm. The outer metal on Minerva's doors were not salvageable (this seems to be a recurring theme) so we had to give her brand new pieces. The door is comprised of a frame and outer sheet metal called the "door skin" (the process or installing a new one is sometimes called "skinning"). One of the good things about Minerva being old is that her doors don't have all the modern amenities like side impact airbags, electronics, sound/weatherproofing and mechanics - this makes the skinning process a bit easier and faster. In addition to getting door skins, we replaced the "business end" of Minerva (her front nose). If you look in the teardown video, you will see Pat Beavers prying out body filler that had been slathered in the upper portion of the nose piece... over time, the filler (being porous) held on to moisture and rotted out the metal underneath. The actual nose piece is not identical to Minerva's body style - The part label read "Front Panel Type 2 - August 1971 to May 1979 (High Front Indicator Models)". One noticeable difference in the replacement part is a raised circle portion that holds the VW emblem... Minerva did not have this, so we're going to knock that down flat... the VW emblem may or may not make it back on Minerva ...

VW Bus Meet Racing at Hockenheim 23.6.2012
Hockenheimring, June 2012, The VW Bus Tuning Meet. My first ever attempt at driving on a proper race track, in my VW ZA 2.6i Microbus, that I had to drive 550 miles home to the UK the following day! Quite a way to spend my 40th birthday though... If it seems slow, believe me it all happens quickly enough out there on the track. We hit 70 mph at the end of the straight, the engine was doing over 5k rpm gearshifts and all in a standard 7-seat bus on cheap 205/65/15 commercial tyres! Martin, driving the white T5, eventually got the message and let me past, only for the bus to have a little "moment" which you'll hear in our commentary... But we came away unscathed and drove home without incident :-)
