Abgar V the Black or Abgarus V of Edessa (Syriac: ܐܒܓܪ ܚܡܝܫܝܐ ܐܘܟܡܐ; ʾAḇgar Ḥəmīšāyā ʾUkkāmā) BC - AD 7 and AD 13 - 50) was a historical Syriac ruler of the kingdom of Osroene, holding his capital at Edessa. (Compare to the region that was referred to as Armenian Mesopotamia by the Greeks and Ashur in the Old Testament). According to an ancient legend, he was converted to Christianity by Addai, one of the Seventy-two Disciples. According to Armenian historian Moses of Khorene he was Sanatruk's relative.
Abgar V was, according to Syriac tradition, one of the first Christian kings in history, having been converted to the faith by the Apostle Thaddeus of Edessa. Other accounts[citation needed] regard this as mere legend, equating the Abgar in the story with the Syrian Abgar IX, a late 2nd-century convert to Christianity. Moses of Khoren suggests that the name of the legendary figure is a corruption of an individual's title: "…Because of his uncommon modesty and wisdom, and his old age, this Abgaros was given the title of "Avag Hair" (Senior Father in Armenian). The Greeks and Assyrians, unable to articulate his name correctly, called him Abgar."
Abgar Barsom (born September 4, 1977 in Örebro) is a Swedish football-player of Aramean origin, currently playing for Syrianska FC.
He made his first spell at Djurgårdens IF from 2000 to 2002, after having joined DIF from BK Forward. He was later sold to SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands, but his time at the Abe Lenstra Stadion was no success. Consequently, Barsom returned to Sweden and DIF at the start of the 2004 season. He has won the Swedish championship twice, in 2002 and 2005. After the 2006 season, Barsom announced that he is looking for a new challenge in another club. He signed a six month contract with Greek club Messiniakos in the Greek second division. When he's contract with Messiniakos ran out he signed for Allsvenskan team Örebro SK. After saving the club from degradation and the contract with ÖSK had expired, he joined Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK.
In the Swedish general election of 2006, he presented his candidacy for Kristdemokraterna for a seat in the Stockholm city council, but he did not get elected.
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (4 January 1710 – 16 March 1736) was an Italian composer, violinist and organist.
Born at Iesi, Pergolesi studied music there under a local musician, Francesco Santini, before going to Naples in 1725, where he studied under Gaetano Greco and Francesco Feo among others. He spent most of his brief life working for aristocratic patrons like the Colonna principe di Stigliano, and duca Marzio IV Maddaloni Carafa.
Pergolesi was one of the most important early composers of opera buffa (comic opera). His opera seria, Il prigionier superbo, contained the two act buffa intermezzo, La Serva Padrona (The Servant Mistress, 28 August 1733), which became a very popular work in its own right. When it was performed in Paris in 1752, it prompted the so-called Querelle des Bouffons ("quarrel of the comic actors") between supporters of serious French opera by the likes of Jean-Baptiste Lully and Jean-Philippe Rameau and supporters of new Italian comic opera. Pergolesi was held up as a model of the Italian style during this quarrel, which divided Paris's musical community for two years.
