25 Things To Do in Tokyo, Japan (Watch This Before You Go)
Get info about things to do, where to stay, and the best food to eat on your visit to Tokyo, Japan. Here's the guide: http://wp.me/psd9b-4EA Tokyo (東京), Japan, is one of the world's greatest cities, and there's so much to do and see when you visit. From temples and shrines, to gardens and museums, you'll never run out of attractions. Out of all the things you could do, I've chosen a top 25 list for this awesome city (and just so you know food is my first choice in Tokyo)! 1. Ameya-Yokochō (アメヤ横丁) - A giant open air market that offers clothes, cosmetics, food, and restaurants and bars. 2. Meiji Shrine (明治神宮) - This Shinto shrine, surrounded by beautiful forest, is extremely significant. 3. Ryogoku Kokugikan (両国国技館) - Even if it's not fight season, you can go to the free sumo museum and eat sumo chankonabe. 4. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (新宿御苑) - The garden is a beautiful attraction in Tokyo, with French gardens, Japanese gardens, and a green house. 5. Ginza (銀座) / Yurakucho (有楽町) - Ginza is a great area of town for upscale shopping and dining, while Yurakucho is famous for Izakaya bars and restaurants under the railroad track. 6. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (東京都庁舎) - There are a lot of things to do in Tokyo where you have to pay, but here, you can go to the 45th floor for free. 7. Tsukiji Market (築地市場) - One of the most famous attractions in all of Tokyo is the Tsukiji Market (築地市場), the biggest seafood market in the world. 8. Shibuya (渋谷区) - With the busiest intersection in the world, Shibuya (渋谷区) is also home to shopping and restaurant. 9. Sumida River (隅田川) - At Tokyo's Sumida River, you can either just walk around the park and enjoy the riverside views, or you can take the Tokyo Cruise in a boat. 10. Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居) - This is the home of the emperor of Japan. To enter the grounds, you have to make a tour booking on the official website 11. Ueno Park (上野公園), Tokyo National Museum (東京国立博物館) - Ueno Park is a huge public park in Tokyo with shrines, gardens and a number of museums. 12. Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) - They call it Tokyo's biggest attractions. It's a huge communications tower with various viewing decks and galleries. 13. Harajuku (原宿), Takeshita Street (竹下通り) - Famous for its street market and cosplay that takes place, this is a place in the city to see and be seen. 14. Senso-ji (金龍山浅草寺) - Visiting this temple is one of the top things to do in Tokyo, frequented by both tourists and religious pilgrims. It's the oldest temple in Tokyo. 15. Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館) - It looks a little like a UFO, but it's one of Tokyo's main museums, that aims to preserve the history of the city. 16. Fine Dining - Let's just face it, Tokyo is one of the best cities in the world for high class dining - atmosphere, presentation, food, it's all just stunning! 17. Akihabara Electric Town (秋葉原電気街) - If you love electronics and gaming, you're going to love the area of Akihabara. You'll also find those infamous maid cafes here. 18. Tokyo Stock Exchange (東京証券取引所) - Another free attraction in Tokyo is to be a guest at the stock exchange where you can see the Japanese Nikkei being traded. 19. Roppongi (六本木) - Home to the Mori Art Museum and a hotspot for nightlife in the city, Roppongi is an exciting area of town. 20. Odaiba (お台場) - This area of Tokyo is full of things to do like Legoland, and Palette Town, an indoor amusement park. It's also known as Tokyo's entertainment island. 21. Yoyogi Park (代々木公園) - Located next to Meiji Shrine, and just a short distance from Harajuku and Shinjuku, this park is popular for exercise and dance. 22. Nezu (根津), Yanaka (谷中 (台東区) - Tokyo is a truly modern city, but there are a couple places like Nezu and Yanaka that have held strong to their traditional and cultural roots. 23. Onsen (温泉) - You've got to strip down naked before you can enter a Japanese public bath. 24. Mount Takao (高尾山) - Just 50 km from central Tokyo, this mountain is popular for climbing and is a sacred religious mountains. Makes a good day trip from Tokyo. 25. Food - Finally, food is the reason I visited Japan, and I think eating is by all means one of the best things to do in Tokyo. Food is everywhere, and not only does it taste amazing, but the care that goes into Japanese cuisine is incredible. Thank you very much for watching this video that includes some of the best things to do in Tokyo. I hope it will give you inspiration to visit and eat through this amazing city. Tokyo Girls
Tokyo Girls
This feature documentary is a candid journey into the world of 4 young Canadian women who work as well-paid hostesses in exclusive Japanese nightclubs. Lured by adventure and easy money, these modern-day geisha find themselves caught up in the mizu shobai - the complex "floating water world" of Tokyo clubs and bars. Drawn by fast money, some women become consumed by the lavish lifestyle and forget why they came. One hostess calls it "losing the plot." With a pulsating visual style, Tokyo Girls captures the raw energy of urban Japan and its fascination with the new. Directed by Penelope Buitenhuis - 2000- published: 19 Dec 2013

Japan / Tokyo (WOW Amazing!!!) Part 1
Japan / Tokyo (WOW Amazing!!!) Part 1
Tokyo Tokyo, Japan is the original mega-city, a throbbing, dynamic metropolis of 32.5 million people, well over 50 percent more massive than the world's next largest metropolitan areas. With populations clustering around 20 million people, the metro regions of Seoul, Mexico City, New York and Mumbai are all less than two-thirds the magnitude of the Tokyo metro area. Tokyo's ranking as the world's number one city goes well beyond the sheer scale of its population. Its lively Shibuya district is home to the world's busiest intersection, a vibrant pedestrian scramble which people traverse from every direction at the same time. Tokyo's famously bustling Tsukiji Market plays fishmonger to the world as the largest wholesale fish and seafood market on the planet. Yet, despite its immense proportions, many worldly, well-traveled observers marvel at how well Tokyo functions. Tokyo's subway trains, packed to the gills during peak rush hour travel times, are known for arriving and departing with impressive precision. Moreover, the city manages to keep a comfortable handle on pollution, crime and other challenges that often accompany such immense urban environments.Tokyo officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都 Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan. Tokyo is the capital of Japan, the center of the Greater Tokyo Area, and the largest metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Japanese government and the Imperial Palace, and the home of the Japanese Imperial Family. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府 Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市 Tōkyō-shi). The Tokyo Metropolitan government administers the 23 special wards of Tokyo (each governed as a city), which cover the area that was the city of Tokyo, as well as 39 municipalities in the western part of the prefecture and the two outlying island chains. The population of the special wards is over 8 million people, with the total population of the prefecture exceeding 13 million. The prefecture is part of the world's most populous metropolitan area with upwards of 35 million people and the world's largest urban agglomeration economy with a GDP of US$1.479 trillion at purchasing power parity in 2008, ahead of New York City metropolitan area, which ranks second on the list. The city hosts 51 of the Fortune Global 500 companies, the highest number of any city. Tokyo has been described as one of the three "command centers" for the world economy, along with New York City and London. The city is considered an alpha+ world city, listed by the GaWC's 2008 inventory[ and ranked fourth among global cities by A.T. Kearney's 2012 Global Cities Index. In 2012, Tokyo was named the most expensive city for expatriates, according to the Mercer and Economist Intelligence Unit cost-of-living surveys, and in 2009 named the third Most Liveable City and the World's Most Livable Megalopolis by the magazine Monocle. The Michelin Guide has awarded Tokyo by far the most Michelin stars of any city in the world. Tokyo hosted the 1964 Summer Olympics and is currently a candidate city for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.- published: 16 Apr 2013

Tokyo's Monster Food Challenge ★WAO! RYU ONLY in JAPAN
Japan is the last place you'd think to find gigantic portions of food, but you'll be surprised to hear that many restaurants offer food challenges! Sometimes what you've given just isn't enough, right? Best of all, if you eat it all within a certain amount of time, it's usually free! John Daub and Kai Okudara head to Iidabashi Station and the Kagurazaka Hanten (神楽坂飯店) restaurant known for its jumbo gyoza and other food challenges. It's a 10 min walk from the Tokyo Dome or 1 stop on the Oedo Line subway. Most people notice the challenge in the display window. It looks almost like a joke! It's ridiculously big. THE CHALLENGE: ★ Jumbo Gyoza / 2.5kg. / 60 minutes / ¥9600 ★ Triple Jumbo Ramen / 3.2kg. / 60 minutes / ¥1890 * It's free if you complete the challenge * Jumbo Gyoza should be ordered 2 days in advance * Enter the Wall of Fame if you complete the challenge Why are food portions in Japanese usually small? We talk about the Japanese concept of mottainai もったいない which means "take only what you need" and "don't waste" This concept runs deep with Japanese and is followed closely with almost every citizen. Kagurazaka Hanten started this challenge 45 years ago as a PR stunt for students. It was a way to get them in to the restaurant in groups and have fun. Today, the restaurant is featured often on Japanese TV as Japanese talent test the limits of their stomachs. Kai Okudara is a writer for tokyocheapo.com and blogs about Japanese food. This show has been created and produced by John Daub. He's been living and working in Japan for over 15 years and regularly reports on an International TV Show for Japan's International Channel. Tokyo Snow 2014 - 雪の東京
Harajuku & Shibuya blanketed in white during the major snowstorm that hit Tokyo on February 8, 2014. We wandered around Shibuya and Harajuku during the snow storm and shot some video to show you how pretty Tokyo looks after a snowfall. Many of the smaller shops in Harajuku were closed and there weren't too many people on the streets of Harajuku (especially for a Saturday). We haven't seen this few people on Takeshita Dori and Cat Street in a long time! We also shot Hachiko, Shibuya 109, LaForet Harajuku, Kiddyland, Omotesando Hills, and other landmarks to show you what they look like covered in snow. According to the Japanese news, this is the most snow that Tokyo has received in over 10 years (maybe longer, depending on which weather channel you watch). Please subscribe to the Tokyo Fashion YouTube Channel if you want to see lots of Japanese fashion videos (and the occasional snow update - haha).- published: 08 Feb 2014

Masked hero grabs broom to clean up Tokyo
Masked hero grabs broom to clean up Tokyo
While most super-heros fight crime, for one such Japanese hero the enemy is garbage and his super weapons are a broom, a dust pan and an army of volunteers who have joined his mission. He calls himself Mangetsu-man, which means Mr. Full Moon in English. He first appeared on the streets of Tokyo last year without any publicity or fanfare. He has been regulary cleaning around Tokyo's Nihonbashi business district ever since. Dressed in purple skin tights and a red and purple cape, he also dons a big yellow sphere over his head meant to represent the full moon and adorned with the chinese characters meaning "full". Though he started alone, he soon became a local celebrity near the bridge that he frequents to clean. He has kept his identity a secret to all so far and refuses to speak on camera in case someone recognises his voice. Instead he speaks through a smartphone's automatic dictation software. As his costume doesn't allow for easy typing though, he also only answers pre-prepared questions. So through this contraption he was able to explain his mission: "Cleaning isn't just about making something dirty clean. It's about staying clean. So it's about keeping one's heart clean as well. So if more people around the world clean up then I believe that there will be less negative news. I want to clean up all the negativity in the world through the power of cleaning," he told Reuters through the computer generated voice of his smartphone. While most super heroes have powers or top secrets gadgets, Mangetsu-man admits his powers are more limited. "I do this personally and not as part of a larger group. When I saw the first full moon in 2013 I heard this voice from above that said 'mangetsu-man' and that's when I got my duty to help bring peace to the world. Unlike other heroes I don't have any special powers or weapons. All I have is my broom and dust pan. But I want to prove that I can help bring peace to the work through the power of cleaning," he said. He mainly cleans around the Nihonbashi bridge, historically Tokyo's most famous bridge until contructions of an expressway over the bridge shortly before the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics ruined what was for many its iconic status. Mangetsu-man is one of many also petitioning the government to get rid of the overhead highway and clean it up ahead of the next Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2020. For passers-by, many who stop to take a picture with him, sometimes it take a few minutes to figure out what he is doing. "At first I wondered what in the world this was but now I've really happy that I managed to actually meet him. He's actually bigger than I expected," said 40-year-old Masako Hoshi. Thanks to his persistence and regular presence on the streets, he no longer works alone. A throng of volunteers regularly turn up to help him whenever he is around. "I'm doing this to help Mangetsu-man," said 5-year-old Fuka Iwasaki, as she swept up around Mangetsu-man. "When I have time I try to come by and help out with the cleaning. So that's why I also stopped by today as well," explained 17-year-old Miyu Sakurai, another ad-hoc helper. However, even with his army of helpers, Mangetsu-man still has his work cut out for him. Like the villains of superhero novels, trash is never completely defeated. Mangetsu-man and his broom says he will continue to keep the streets of Tokyo clean, one sweep at a time.
