NDRC 2013 Stand 4 "USAR Rubble Search and Rescue" DFES SES Western Australia Australia
NDRC 2013 Stand 4 "USAR Rubble Search and Rescue" DFES SES Western Australia Australia This stand represented a wholly collapsed building known to have had people inside at the time of the earthquake. Teams were required to conduct an initial surface search looking for lightly trapped casualties. All casualties were to be given first aid and be transported from the site. This stand presented the difficulty of rescuer mobility and the added difficulty of securely packaging the casualty into a stretcher and the systematic and safe transport of the casualties across the rubble pile to an awaiting ambulance. The competition. State and Territory Emergency Service Volunteers from across Australia attended the National Disaster Rescue Competition hosted by Victoria State Emergency Service and held at the Country Fire Authority (CFA) training facility, Fiskville North of Melbourne Victoria. The competition was run over two days where each competing team underwent 7 rescue scenarios. The scenarios realistically depicted a range of emergencies that rescuers would be called upon in the event of an earthquake.. The scenarios were supported by volunteer members of St John Ambulance who used their medical skills to realistically act out the pains and complications of the injuries relative to each stand, screams and all. Whilst the range of stands were diverse in comparison, each presented a complex situation requiring Team Leaders to prioritise and task their team systematically throughout the rescue. All teams displayed an exemplary sense of urgency and direct effective control of the situation they were presented with. Casualty care was beyond reproach. In these events there is only one winner... that's just how competitions work, but really, everyone who attended and took part, were winners.- published: 30 Mar 2014

NDRC 2013 Stand 7 "Fallen Worker Suspended from Silo" VICSES SES Victoria Australia
NDRC 2013 Stand 7 "Fallen Worker Suspended from Silo" VICSES SES Victoria Australia In this stand a worker who had been working on the side of a Silo had been jostled about during the earthquake hitting the side of the Silo several times, suspended in his harness and lifeline rope attachments. The worker (casualty) was only 2.3 m above ground and was unconscious/unresponsive. Teams were required to release the casualty and safely bring him to the ground, provide first aid including spinal care and transport to an awaiting ambulance nearby. The competition. State and Territory Emergency Service Volunteers from across Australia attended the National Disaster Rescue Competition hosted by Victoria State Emergency Service and held at the Country Fire Authority (CFA) training facility, Fiskville North of Melbourne Victoria. NDRC 2013 Stand 2 "Heavy Lift Rescue" NTES SES Northern Territory Australia
NDRC 2013 Stand 2 "Heavy Lift Rescue" NTES SES Northern Territory Australia In this stand sections of structural steel and concrete have fallen trapping a casualty beneath the rubble. Another casualty is nearby who had been struck by a falling object and was lapsing in and out of consciousness. Teams were required to lift sections of the structure to release the casualty and at the same time manage the movement of the load. The other casualty required consistent care and monitoring as well as managing limb injuries. The competition. State and Territory Emergency Service Volunteers from across Australia attended the National Disaster Rescue Competition hosted by Victoria State Emergency Service and held at the Country Fire Authority (CFA) training facility, Fiskville North of Melbourne Victoria. NDRC 2013 Stand 5 "Mass Casualty Rescue" NSWSES SES New South Wales Australia
NDRC 2013 Stand 5 "Mass Casualty Rescue" NSWSES SES New South Wales Australia In this stand rescuers were presented with two Victorian commuter trains one of which had rolled at a 45° angle from its tracks containing two casualties one of which was wheelchair-bound the other had sustained knocks and broken limbs as a result of being jostled around the train during the earthquake and derailment. The other train contained a driver with a broken arm as well as an elderly and infirm and gentlemen passenger. The scenario also had the complexity of the casualty who had wandered out of the train and into a field heading away from the scene of the incident. This stand required teams to undertake rapid casualty assessment so as to triage and provide treatment to those most in need and to transport each casualty to an awaiting ambulance at the perimeter of the scene. NDRC's Pre-Accelerator programmes - preparing your startup to start
At NDRC we run 'pre-accelerator' programmes, to help startup founders at the very earliest stages. These programmes, run over 5 weeks, are a part-time commitment and designed to provide founders with the tools they need to understand whether there is a market for their product, meet valuable mentors who can help them along the way, and build the ideal startup team.- published: 10 Mar 2014
