Welder: CD100SPM -- Single Pulse, 100 watt-second, capacitive discharge spot welder Attachment: WH1125A -- Opposed, pneumatic, weld head, with 0.125" electrode holders Electrodes: EL125RWMA -- Copper electrodes Upper electrode tapered to 0.080" Lower electrode with a flat tip Settings: The 0.05mm Stainless Steel wire is welded to itself in a cross-wire weld pattern at 3.1 watt-seconds (ws), with max pulse length, and 4.5 pounds of force. Trials/Results: The CD100SPM paired with the WH1125A opposed pneumatic weld head is a great, simple, and economical solution for cross-wire welding 0.05mm Stainless Steel wires. The welds are performed at 3.1 ws with pulse length set to the max. The weld head is set to 30% pressure, which equates to 4.5 pounds of force. We used Copper for upper and lower electrodes. The upper Copper electrode is tapered to 0.080". The lower electrode is flat. A clean electrode is very important to performing these small welds. Outcome/Conclusion: The CD100SPM is our most affordable solution, however, it does a great job with these small Stainless Steel wires. Set up is simple, and new users will be up and welding in minutes. The pressure, which is applied by the weld head, is consistent, and will result in great welds. If required, users could perform welds with a tweezer hand piece, to bring the price of the system down, however, pressure is not as reliable, and results can vary.
