Another World may refer to:
Wesley, a shortened version of "Wesleydale", is a name with an Anglo-Norman etymology. The "wes" portion of the name refers to the Western cardinal direction, while the word "lea" refers to a field, pasture, or other clearing in a forest. Thus, the name's origin refers to a "western lea," or a field to the west.
The name was predominantly used as a surname until John Wesley, founder of the Methodist church, inspired some parents to name their sons after him while also retaining the parents' own surname.
Alice Frame (née Matthews; previously Gordon) is a fictional character from the daytime soap opera, Another World. She was most notably played by Jacqueline Courtney.
Alice was born and raised in Bay City, Illinois and was a member of the prominent Matthews family, though she grew up middle-class. She was an average college girl with no problems, until she met Steve Frame. They fell head over heels in love and soon decided to get married.
There was just one thing in the way of Steve and Alice's happiness and her name was Rachel Matthews. Rachel was married to Alice's brother, Russ. Alice already disliked Rachel since she believed she was a goldigger who had only married Russ to become part of Bay City high society (and she would be correct). Rachel also fell for Steve and one night, after Steve and Alice had a fight, the pair made love. Rachel arrived at Steve and Alice's engagement party and announced she was pregnant with Steve's baby. When Steve rejected Rachel to stay with Alice, she passed the baby off as Russ's and he was named James Gerald "Jamie" Matthews. When the truth about Jamie's paternity came out, Alice left town.
Jacqueline Courtney (born Sharon Courtney; September 24, 1946 – December 20, 2010) was an American actress best known for her work on daytime soap operas.
After short stints on The Edge of Night and Our Five Daughters, Courtney became famous for her role as Alice Matthews Frame on Another World; she played the role from the show's debut in May 1964 until July 1975. It was during the late 1960s that the Alice/Steve/Rachel triangle became one of the hottest storylines on daytime, pairing her with George Reinholt as the charismatic Steve Frame, and setting her in a rivalry with "bad girl" Rachel Davis, played at the time by Robin Strasser and later by Victoria Wyndham.
In 1975, Courtney and Reinholt were fired, allegedly for "storyline purposes." Head writer Harding Lemay wrote in his memoir, Eight Years in Another World, that Courtney was fired because she was a bad actress who refused to learn lines as written, although she had huge popularity with the soap audience. After being dismissed by producer Paul Rauch, Courtney went on to play Pat Ashley on ABC's One Life to Live, where she was reunited with George Reinholt, playing Tony Lord. In 1979, just as Courtney was involved in a storyline involving a psychotic twin sister, Maggie, Robin Strasser joined the cast as Dorian Lord. Courtney remained on the show until September 1983, when the network fired her just before bringing Paul Rauch in as producer.
Susan Harney (born February 1, 1946 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee) is an American actress, best known on television for her role as Alice Matthews Frame on the soap opera Another World, replacing Jacqueline Courtney. Harney played the role from the summer of 1975 until the spring of 1979.
Harney is a native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and attended Middle Tennessee State University where she majored in drama. After deciding to become an actress, she attended the William Esper Studio.
After leaving Another World, she moved to California and married fellow actor Barry Jenner.
Playlist for Another World fans to discuss the five women who played Alice Matthews Frame. Wesley Pfenning took over for Susan Harney, who left the show to follow her husband to Hollywood. No clips of her performance of Alice is available on-line. This is a clip of Pfenning when she popped up on One Day At A Time a year after leaving Another World. Wesley Pfenning had one of the shortest tenures as she barely lasted six months in the part. Pfenning seemed too young for the role as she was five years younger than both Jacqueline Courtney and Susan Harney. See if you agree by watching this clip and commenting below.

Playlist for Another World fans to discuss the five women who played Alice Matthews Frame. Susan Harney succeed Jacqueline Courtney in the role of Alice and played the part until 1979. She seemed to have won over fans with her interpretation of the role, giving her characterization subtext. See if you agree by watching this clip and commenting below.
Playlist for Another World fans to discuss the five women who played Alice Matthews Frame. After a nine year absence Jacqueline Courtney made a triumphant return as Alice Matthews Frame on Another World's 20th Anniversary. Unfortunately she only lasted a year. The writers used her ineffectively as she was only a sounding board for her daughter Sally. Plus any illness that befell a character in Bay City, Alice seemed to be the medical specialist at. Quite a shame because TPTB might of been able to reactivate the Alice-Rachel conflict. See if you agree that Jacqueline Courtney had nothing to do by watching these clips below, then commenting below.
