US MILITARY unveils ADVANCED ANTI MISSILE LASER made by Lockheed Martin
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 8, 2013 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] today announced that it has successfully demonstrated the Area Defense Anti-Munitions (ADAM) system in multiple tests against free-flying Qassam-like rocket targets. The prototype laser system has destroyed eight small-caliber rocket targets in flight at a range of approximately 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) in tests conducted in March and April 2013. Lockheed Martin is developing the transportable, ground-based ADAM laser system to provide a defense against short-range threats, including improvised rockets such as Qassam rockets, unmanned aerial systems and small boats. The tests represent increasingly complex scenarios against representative airborne targets. In 2012, the system successfully destroyed 11 small-caliber rocket targets in simulated flight tethered to a cable at a range of approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles). The system also successfully engaged an unmanned aerial system target in flight at a range of approximately 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) in 2012. "Our test results demonstrate the capabilities of the ADAM system to provide a practical, affordable directed-energy solution to the real-world problem of close-in threats," said Tory Bruno, president of Strategic and Missile Defense Systems, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. Designed for short-range defense of high-value assets including forward operating bases, the ADAM system's 10-kilowatt fiber laser is engineered to destroy targets up to 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) away. The system precisely tracks targets in cluttered optical environments and has a tracking range of more than 5 kilometers (3.1 miles). The system is being designed to be flexible enough to operate against rockets as a standalone system and to engage unmanned aerial systems with an external cue. Lockheed Martin based the design on commercial hardware components paired with its laser beam control architecture and software to provide the performance needed for these types of threats without the cost and time required for full custom development. The system is integrated in a container that is mounted on a trailer, making it readily transportable. "High-energy lasers complement kinetic energy systems and have unique attributes, including very low cost per engagement, a virtually unlimited 'magazine' and minimal collateral damage," said Doug Graham, Lockheed Martin's vice president of advanced programs for Strategic and Missile Defense Systems. Lockheed Martin has been a pioneer in the development and demonstration of high-energy laser capabilities for more than 30 years and has made key advances in areas such as precision pointing and control, line-of-sight stabilization and adaptive optics. Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 118,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation's net sales for 2012 were $47.2 billion. The United States Armed Forces[N 1] are the military forces of the United States of America. They consist of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard.[6] The U.S. has a strong tradition of civilian control of the military. The President of the United States is the military's overall head, and helps form military policy with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), a federal executive department, acting as the principal organ by which military policy is carried out. The DoD is headed by the Secretary of Defense, who is a civilian and Cabinet member. The Defense Secretary is second in the military's chain of command, just below the President, and serves as the principal assistant to the President in all DoD-related matters.[7] To coordinate military action with diplomacy, the President has an advisory National Security Council headed by a National Security Advisor. Both the President and Secretary of Defense are advised by a seven-member Joint Chiefs of Staff, which includes the head of each of the Defense Department's service branches as well as the chief of the National Guard Bureau. Leadership is provided by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.[8] The Commandant of the Coast Guard is not a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (US), America, or simply the States, is a federal republic[10][11] consisting of 50 states, 16 territories, and a federal district. The 48 contiguous states and the federal district of Washington, D.C., are in central North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is the northwestern part of North America and the state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific.- published: 21 Nov 2013

Lockheed Martin announces SR-72 Mach-6 spyplane - Truthloader Investigates
Lockheed Martin have announced plans to build a new hypersonic unmanned spy plane. The SR-72 will fly at Mach-6 thanks to jet and ramjet hybrid technologies -- double the speed of the legendary SR-71 Blackbird which was retired in the late 1990s. The new design will take inspiration from the astonishingly fast but crash-happy HTV-2, a DARPA-funded rocket glider capable of hitting Mach-20. Lockheed Martin - 3D Printing Advanced Manufacturing [1080p]
Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Space Systems, delivered the keynote address at AIAA SciTech on January 14, 2014. Innovating for an Era of Affordability: The Future of the Space Industry focused on how Lockheed Martin is adopting innovative approaches in manufacturing to help customers meet their mission needs. Lockheed Martin is implementing 3D printing and 3D pathfinding simulation technology to improve affordability and operational excellence throughout the entire lifecycle of our products. Transforming Production with the Digital Tapestry Next-generation digital manufacturing technologies are redefining Lockheed Martin's production cycle, forming the company's "digital tapestry," a seamless digital environment driven by integrated Model Based Engineering (MBE) tool set that keeps the digital data intact from conceptualization to realization. 3D Printing Satellite Parts Lockheed Martin is implementing 3D printing technology, also known as additive manufacturing, to print titanium satellite parts -- reducing cost, cycle time and material waste. 3D printing is a process of making three-dimensional objects directly from a computer model. This process is achieved using an additive process. A material, such as titanium, is heated and then applied in successive layers to create almost any shape. When a product is printed using additive manufacturing, waste is minimized and cycle time is drastically reduced. Lockheed Martin is currently using this process to develop printed satellite parts and plans to continue expanding the process in the future to complex parts and maybe even full satellites. Virtual Pathfinding with 3D Simulation Technology By using 3D pathfinding simulation technology called the Collaborative Human Immersive Laboratory (CHIL), Lockheed Martin can identify areas to improve affordability and operational excellence throughout the entire lifecycle of our products. The CHIL is an advanced virtual reality and simulation laboratory that offers a smarter, cheaper and lower risk opportunity in building space systems, including satellites, exploration spacecraft, launch vehicles and missile defense systems. The facility enables virtual creation before the physical creation to improve the affordability of our products and associated processes. Lockheed Martin is applying this innovative technology across the business's programs to improve production processes.- published: 28 May 2014

Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® - Aerial Reconfigurable Embedded System (ARES) VTOL Simulation [720p]
Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works® is leading a team with Piasecki Aircraft to develop the next generation of compact, high-speed Vertical TakeOff and Landing (VTOL) delivery systems with the Aerial Reconfigurable Embedded System (ARES). Formerly known as Transformer (TX), ARES' unique design could adapt to multiple missions with interchangeable payloads; including cargo pods, medical evacuation units, a tactical ground vehicle, troops, and armed scout, reconnaissance and strike capabilities. This flexibility combined with emerging autonomous unmanned air vehicle control systems provides terrain-independent transportation and cargo supply capability to ground combat units. Compared to a conventional helicopter, ARES' tilting ducted fans provide a safer operating environment that's half the landing zone with faster transit speeds of up to 200 knots (370 km/h).- published: 28 Feb 2014
