Please follow us on twitter at https://twitter.com/DorsetghostDGI & like our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Dorset-Ghost-Investigators/259833150723729 Hampton Court Palace, home of King Henry VIII of England, whose fifth wife, Catherine Howard, is supposed to be heard screaming in the "Haunted Gallery". On 21 December 2003, CCTV footage allegedly showed someone in 16th century clothes and no face closing a fire door that, though locked, was constantly being opened without anyone near it. Another is the ghost of Jane Seymour, Henry VIII's third wife who died a few days after giving birth to Edward VI. The rumour goes that Catherine Howard's ghost haunts the Haunted Gallery. Visitors have claimed to have had unpleasant encounters. Jane Seymour, Henry VIII's third wife and mother of Edward VI once has been seen walking towards Edward's room. Henry VIII has also been seen in ghost form, and so was Dame Sybil Pen. She died of smallpox in 1562 and her grave was damaged by a storm in the early 19th century. People claimed to hear the sounds of an old woman, and the sounds of a spinning wheel. After time had passed, a new room containing an old spinning wheel in constant use had been found. In late December 2003, security cameras at Hampton Court Palace captured a startling image. Security guards were unsettled to repeatedly find a fire door open when no one was apparently around. Upon checking the security tape, they were shocked by a ghostly figure, closely resembling King Henry VIII (who died in the 1500s). Vikki Wood, a spokesperson for the Palace, said "We're baffled too — it's not a joke, we haven't manufactured it. We genuinely do not know who it is or what it is." They aren't a ppc company, or even a company looking to gain from this oddity; they are just as baffled like most people who look at this footage. A security officer, James Faukes, called the incident "unnerving," and said they'd ruled out their costumed guides. "In fact, they don't even own a costume like the one worn by the figure on the video. It was incredibly spooky because the face just didn't look human," Faukes said. About Hampton Court Palace: Hampton Court Palace is a royal palace in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Greater London, and the historic county of Middlesex; it has not been inhabited by the British Royal Family since the 18th century. The palace is located 11.7 miles (18.8 kilometres) south west of Charing Cross and upstream of central London on the River Thames. It was originally built for Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, a favourite of King Henry VIII, circa 1514; in 1529, as Wolsey fell from favour, the palace was passed to the King, who enlarged it. The following century, King William III's massive rebuilding and expansion project intended to rival Versailles was begun. Work halted in 1694, leaving the palace in two distinct contrasting architectural styles, domestic Tudor and Baroque. While the palace's styles are an accident of fate, a unity exists due to the use of pink bricks and a symmetrical, albeit vague, balancing of successive low wings. Along with St. James's Palace, it is one of only two surviving palaces out of the many owned by King Henry VIII. Today, the palace is open to the public, and a major tourist attraction. It is cared for by an independent charity, Historic Royal Palaces, which receives no funding from the Government or the Crown. Apart from the Palace itself and its gardens, other points of interest for visitors include the celebrated maze, the historic real tennis court (see below) and the huge grape vine, claimed to be the largest in the world. The palace's Home Park is the site of the annual Hampton Court Palace Festival and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Music credit to: Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)".
