A Treatise On Rome 2 - Part 1
A Treatise On Rome 2 - Part 1
At first I just wanted to do a straight-forward all-encompassing review in the traditional sense ..but the more I researched and reflected and thought.. the more I compared what we have to what we were promised and expected, the more I realised the kind of video I had to make. I made this piece for the people like me - the disappointed fans. I mostly just said what I thought had to be said. It was somewhat cathartic to make - hopefully hearing what I have to say will be as well. Sources used: That dreadful first 30 mins of Rome 2, where all my hopes and dreams were dashed on the rocks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8pSlSXf4L4 The "elevationgate" test footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9LkcqH4sgM The AI snake oil footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWwr1D84VEM The possibly Elevationgated general AI showcase: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_9qkAC4b5c The Rome 1 footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgQo5_1AqJ4 This isn't an orthodox review, but then, Rome 2 is not an orthodox game and its launch was pretty much unique. If you want a quick overall review in the traditional sense, you're probably better first watching the "Rome II Angry Review": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_QK-lcW8a8" ..and then coming back if you want more. If you want an extremely in-depth review of the game mechanics (the part of the game that I care about the most), you're probably better off watching the "Sane Critique, Why Rome 2 Failed": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXkWfEIALxM ..and then coming back if you want more. Part 1 covers the overall condition of the game, and pans over to the AI. Part 2 will cover immersion. P.S. Let me know if you agree with my conclusions. I think I was fair. Nothing I said was not well thought out, researched and considered. I don't think I was harsh. I don't hate CA. I know for a fact that a lot of the people at CA are (OR WERE) passionate and capable. I think they were just denatured by pressure. Special thanks to CosmicContrarian. The Second Treatise of Government is a work of political philosophy published anonymously in 1689 by John Locke. In the Second Treatise, Locke develops a number of notable themes. It begins with a depiction of the state of nature, wherein individuals are under no obligation to obey one another but are each themselves judge of what the law of nature requires. It also covers conquest and slavery, property, representative government, and the right of revolution.- published: 12 Sep 2013

A Theologico-Political Treatise (FULL Audiobook)
A Theologico-Political Treatise - audiobook Benedict de SPINOZA (1632 - 1677), translated by R. H. M. ELWES (1853 - ) Written by the Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza, the Tractatus Theologico-Politicus or Theologico-Political Treatise was one of the most controversial texts of the early modern period. It was a preemptive defense of Spinoza's later work, Ethics, published posthumously in 1677, for which he anticipated harsh criticism. In the treatise, Spinoza put forth his most systematic critique of Judaism, and all organized religion in general. Spinoza argued that theology and philosophy must be kept separate, particularly in the reading of scripture. Whereas the goal of theology is obedience, philosophy aims at understanding rational truth. Scripture does not teach philosophy and thus cannot be made to conform with it, otherwise the meaning of scripture will be distorted. Conversely, if reason is made subservient to scripture, then, Spinoza argues, "the prejudices of a common people of long ago... will gain a hold on his understanding and darken it." He reinterpreted the belief that there were such things as prophecy, miracles, or supernatural occurrences. He argued that God acts solely by the laws of "his own nature". He rejected the view that God had a particular end game or purpose to advance in the course of events; to Spinoza, those who believed so were only creating a delusion for themselves out of fear. Second Treatise of Government by John Locke (Full Audiobook)
"Download Audiobook Here: http://amzn.to/HvGfex" The central principles of what today is broadly known as political liberalism were made current in large part by Locke's Second Treatise of Government 1690. The principles of individual liberty, the rule of law, government by consent of the people, and the right to private property are taken for granted as fundamental to the human condition now. Most liberal theorists writing today look back to Locke as the source of their ideas. Some maintain that religious fundamentalism, "post-modernism," and socialism are today the only remaining ideological threats to liberalism. To the extent that this is true, these ideologies are ultimately attacks on the ideas that Locke, arguably more than any other, helped to make the universal vocabulary of political discourse. About the Author: Born in 1632 in Somerset, England, Locke was the son of an attorney in a middle-class family. In 1652 he went to Oxford and studied medicine. The first earl of Shaftesbury introduced Locke to the world of politics, and early in their association, Locke served as secretary of the Board of Trade and Plantations and secretary to the Lords Proprietors of the Carolinas. In 1696, Locke was made Commissioner of Trade, a position he held for several years before his death in 1704.- published: 22 Nov 2013

Why Is the Art of War Important? Sun Tzu's Chinese Military Treatise - Book Review (2001)
Why Is the Art of War Important? Sun Tzu's Chinese Military Treatise - Book Review (2001)
The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise attributed to Sun Tzu, a high-ranking military general, strategist and tactician. The text is composed of 13 chapters, each of which is devoted to one aspect of warfare. It is commonly known to be the definitive work on military strategy and tactics of its time. It has been the most famous and influential of China's Seven Military Classics, and "for the last two thousand years it remained the most important military treatise in Asia, where even the common people knew it by name." It has had an influence on Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy and beyond. The book was first translated into the French language in 1772 by French Jesuit Jean Joseph Marie Amiot and a partial translation into English was attempted by British officer Everard Ferguson Calthrop in 1905. The first annotated English language translation was completed and published by Lionel Giles in 1910. Leaders as diverse as Mao Zedong, General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Douglas MacArthur and leaders of Imperial Japan have drawn inspiration from the work. In many East Asian countries, The Art of War was part of the syllabus for potential candidates of military service examinations. Various translations are available. During the Sengoku era in Japan, a daimyo named Takeda Shingen (1521--1573) is said to have become almost invincible in all battles without relying on guns, because he studied The Art of War. The book even gave him the inspiration for his famous battle standard "Fūrinkazan" (Wind, Forest, Fire and Mountain), meaning fast as the wind, silent as a forest, ferocious as fire and immovable as a mountain. The translator Samuel B. Griffith offers a chapter on "Sun Tzu and Mao Tse-Tung" where The Art of War is cited as influencing Mao's On Guerrilla Warfare, On the Protracted War and Strategic Problems of China's Revolutionary War, and includes Mao's quote: "We must not belittle the saying in the book of Sun Wu Tzu, the great military expert of ancient China, 'Know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a thousand battles without disaster.'" During the Vietnam War, some Vietcong officers studied The Art of War and reportedly could recite entire passages from memory. General Vo Nguyen Giap successfully implemented tactics described in The Art of War during the Battle of Dien Bien Phu ending major French involvement in Indochina and leading to the accords which partitioned Vietnam into North and South[citation needed]. General Vo, later the main PVA military commander in the Vietnam War, was an avid student and practitioner of Sun Tzu's ideas. America's defeat there, more than any other event, brought Sun Tzu to the attention of leaders of American military theory. Finnish Field Marshal Mannerheim and general Aksel Airo were avid readers of Art of War. They both read it in French; Airo kept the French translation of the book on his bedside table in his quarters. The Department of the Army in the United States, through its Command and General Staff College, lists The Art of War as one example of a book that may be kept at a military unit's library. The Art of War is listed on the Marine Corps Professional Reading Program (formerly known as the Commandant's Reading List). It is recommended reading for all United States Military Intelligence personnel and is required reading for all CIA officers. According to some authors, the strategy of deception from The Art of War was studied and widely used by the KGB: "I will force the enemy to take our strength for weakness, and our weakness for strength, and thus will turn his strength into weakness." The book is widely cited by KGB officers in charge of disinformation operations in Vladimir Volkoff's novel Le Montage. The Art of War has been applied to many fields well outside of the military. Much of the text is about how to fight wars without actually having to do battle: it gives tips on how to outsmart one's opponent so that physical battle is not necessary. As such, it has found application as a training guide for many competitive endeavors that do not involve actual combat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_art_of_war Image By 663highland (663highland) [GFDL (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html), CC-BY-SA-3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/) or CC-BY-2.5 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5)], via Wikimedia Commons- published: 10 Jan 2014
